There’s a new kitten on the block! After sneaking in through an open window, Sue and Tai-chan’s new neighbor Ran makes herself right at home. While the kittens make perfect playmates, senior cat Sue basks in her chance to finally enjoy some peace and quiet...at least until things get livelier than ever before!
Konami Kanata (jp. こなみかなた), is a Japanese cartoonist best known for her cat characters Chi's Sweet Home. Her works revolves around the daily life of house cats.
She went to Futaba-Kōtō Academy in Suwa, Nagano Perfecture. Her first published manga as a profesional manga-ka was the short story Puchi Neko Jamu Jamu in Nakayoshi Manga Magazine in 1982. The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut.
This as such a pleasant read and it even made me laugh a couple times. I hope volume five comes out soon in the next year in English. Meanwhile I need to read Konami's other works because I truly love her storytelling. It just bring a smile to my face while reading which is such a joy!
Another cute manga about elder cat Sue and kitten Tai-chan. This one starts off with Tai having another kitten to play with, and is still as cute a book as ever. This one ends on a bit of a different note, with Sue and Tai-chan getting into trouble that will carry over to the next book (instead of each chapter being completely stand-alone the way much of this series is). I'm curious to see what comes next!
Tai-chan and his new little frenemy Ren use their kitten energy to entertain each other, get into trouble, and sometimes annoy Sue. When Ren is gone, Tai-chan can focus his energy on getting Sue to play with him. She also teaches him tricks of staying cool on hot days and gets him to take naps. They have some Christmas hide-n-seek fun and other seasonal adventures. Tai-chan meets FukuFuku, and the final misadventure that sees Sue and Tai-chan stuck outside is to be continued in the next volume.
A fun collection of short graphic novel stories featuring spunky kitten Tai-chan and elderly cat Sue. I liked FukuFuku's little cameo in this one. The Christmas story teaches some Japanese Christmas traditions which was interesting. Overall, this is just a nice escape read with plenty of cuteness and humor.
I don't tire of this series! I love the art - very simple cute face, especially for Tai-chan, with his big round eyes. I also like that each book is a collection of vignettes (18 in this one), dealing with all aspects of a cat's life, and life with a cat, no, with two cats! It's also about growing up, as Tai-chan tries to learn from old Sue-chan. The author manages to draw so much from daily adventures with cats! I can't wait to read book 5, as inadvertently, their owner locked them out while leaving for a few days!! What's going to happen to them? Will they take refuge maybe with the neighbor cat?
Time for even more kitten shenanigans as Tai-chan makes a couple new friends: a kitten named Ran-chan and an older cat named Fukufuku (from a different series by this author FukuFuku: Kitten Tales 1). We also have summer naps, winter hide-and-seek, and one really BIG uh-oh.
Konami is very clever at showing the many quirky and humorous sides of felines in her GN series. I love her drawings, and she is always sure to capture an adorable mood or antic that is so particular to cats.
She is also extremely famous for her Chi series. The Fukufuku series followed and now she is adding more volumes to the Sue & Tai-chan series.
How does each volume get cuter than the last? This is so fricking adorable! Tai-chan hiding in the Christmas stocking holding his little tail. And him having a nap holding Sue's tail is so sweet.
