Teal got her name due to the color of her eyes when she was found abandoned as a baby on the Wales seashore. Framed for murder at the young age of twelve she serves five years before being shipped off to a Barbados facility. Sailing across the Atlantic Ocean she soon finds herself tossed into a whole new world. The gods finally know she exists. Being half siren, half demi-goddess, she packs a lot of power. Zeus is not happy that she exists. Born with both Atlantean blood and blood of the gods, she has the power to undo the revenge Zeus set upon Atlantis over eleven thousand years ago. Secrets from the past reveal a human organization called Nimrod who captures sirens in order to expand their human lifespans. Teal travels to Atlantis with her reluctant guard, who stirs feelings within her that could put both of their lives at risk. Royal sirens are not allowed to have any physical contact with non-royals. Will she be welcomed at her father, Poseidon’s court?
Hello! My name is Amanda DeShane. I am a fairly new author, digital artist, cover designer and lover of fantasy stories. There is nothing better than slipping into a book, to experience unlimited adventures within its pages. I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time with my family and friends.
I live happily with my spouse and kids in a small British Columbia town in Canada. I have one teen and two-step children, and a mischievous cat named Thackery Binx. The children and the four-legged kid that meows are all the center of my universe.
I am a fantasy writer, who thrives off world building and intricate stories with vivid imagery and mythology angles. I started out as a children's book author, then decided I wanted to write fantasy novels for a living. Being a creative with no lack of ideas and creative drive, I jumped right in with two feet. My first adult novel, The Prophecy (Asgard Academy), is a fantasy reverse harem novel. It is an intricate web of a story that takes place in both the human realm and Asgard a Norse mythology realm. Aurora, my main character grows up in foster care completely ignorant of the fact that she is not human. Until the day her hands start going off like stun guns at the ready. Readers go on a journey as she discovers her birthright and who she is. Asgard is a world full of witches, warlocks, giants, all sorts of shifters, sirens, demigods and so much more.
My second novel Tidal Vortex (Chronicles of the siren.) Follows the story of seventeen year old Teal who was abandoned as a baby on the Wales seashore then framed at twelve years old for the murder of her adoptive father. After spending years serving time for something she never did, fate tosses her through a tidal vortex and into a world she never dreamed possible.. Zeus in his grief and anger cursed Atlantis and Poseidon over eleven thousand years ago, turning the people into sirens and sinking Atlantis into the sea. Teal seeks out the truth about her past as she navigates the city of Atlantis and a forbidden bond between herself and her guard. Royal sirens are not allowed to have any physical contact with no-royals. One touch is enough to sign their death warrant. War is coming and only Teal the prophesied demi-goddess has the power to save the Atlantean siren people, while raising Atlantis from the hidden depths of the sea. Nimrod, a secret human organization, has been capturing sirens in order to expand their own lifespans. Will Teal find her revenge, and change the corruption that has run rampant in Atlantis for thousands of years? Secrets long buried are rising from the deep.
I love mixing legends and mythology with paranormal twists. Creating worlds that are unique and an adventure that makes you cheer, laugh, cry and rage as the main character fights for what is right or just. I can’t seem to ever just pick one genre when writing so much of my work is written with multiple genres, multiple points of view, and twists. I am currently working hard towards completing my next two novels.
One of the first things that strikeout and shine from this book is the setting, especially the geography. Whether it was the prison, the ship, or Atlantis itself, every location was described with such meticulous detail that I felt I was there, present at that location.
The main characters are pretty well developed, especially Teal, she was strong, confident, and relatable. However, the supporting characters lacked motivation and didn’t contribute much to the storyline. I loved the adaptation of Zeus, he was strong and powerful, but Poseidon’s adaptation seemed a bit out of character to me. My favorite character has to be Coral, the dolphin (adorable and always saving the day).
The storyline was interesting and kept me engrossed throughout and themes like social injustice and inequality in society stood out. Certain aspects were a bit unrealistic at times, but this is a story where sirens exist so I can’t complain about the unrealistic nature of things. Also, the siren descriptions were pretty unique as well, unlike what I’ve read anywhere else. It was a fresh take and it was interesting to read about the author’s vision.
If you like a good fantasy novel with a touch of drama, comedy, and action combined with Greek mythology, this book is definitely for you!
I read this during a busy week, and struggled each time I had to pause. I loved every moment. Absolutely, positively too good. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
