Imagine all of your hopes and dreams gone in one moment. Your life is forever changed. You may think this will never happen to you. How could it? You raised your kids right. You are a good family. Your kids play sports and would never think about trying drugs. These are the words of so many of us, but what child says that they want to grow up to be an addict? The answer is not one. Addiction does not care what kind of family you came from. Addiction just doesn’t affect the person using the substance, it destroys everyone in its path.We have all made a mistake before in life and most have learned from it. Imagine making one mistake that you cannot reverse or feel as if there is no hope for restoration. Whether it was a doctor that gave you medication for pain or you wanted to fit in with your friends, it doesn’t matter. The devil of addiction is pure evil. Some people have been blessed to find help and gain the strength that is needed to break free. Their stories will tell the truth about addiction and what it is like being on the front lines battling these demons. They will give you hope.Others have not been so fortunate and continue to struggle. Sadly, some lost their battles leaving mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, spouses, and friends to live a life of what-ifs, regrets, sorrow, and excruciating pain. Only the memories remain and all hope is gone. The families are forever changed. Addiction is not an individual disease, it causes ripples that affect everyone. You will hear stories from a group of survivors and others speaking for their loved ones who no longer have a voice. There are stories of death by overdose, by suicide, and even by murder. The common link is substance abuse and addiction. These unique stories are about pain and heartbreak, hope & healing. This is the raw truth written from broken hearts.

If you love another human, read this book.

Have you ever woken up and not felt right until you had that first cup of coffee? How about that light feeling that you get after a drag from a cigarette? Have you sat down at the end of a hard day, breathing a sigh of relief and feeling the warm relaxation flood your body as you sip on a glass of wine, or a cocktail? Then you know a tiny bit of what addiction feels like.

Have you spent a morning suffering from a hangover? Vomited after drinking? Then you have overdosed.

If you love another human being then you need to read this book. If you are a parent then you need to read this book. If you are a professional who works with other humans then you need to read this book.

In 2020 we focused on ending a global pandemic, covid-19… but we largely ignored the opioid epidemic. In 2020 alone, the USA suffered upwards of 90,000 overdose deaths. Every one of those people was a son, a daughter, a parent, an aunt, an uncle, a friend. Every one was loved by people who felt nothing but helplessness, hopelessness, frustration, anger, loss, grief, and despair.

Addiction is not a choice. Drug use is a choice, and then the addiction grabs hold. No one writes that 5th grade essay and says they want to be addicted when they grow up. The stigma is what prevents individuals and families from seeking life saving help and support.

This book tells the stories of more than 19 human beings who were lost to drug addiction and overdose, and who fight for survival every day of their lives. The stories are told, first hand, by the people who love them.

Hold your stereotypes. Hold your judgements. Read the book. Feel your heart change, and then speak with compassion and love.

Ripples: Effects of Addiction could change your life; could change the lives of your family and friends; could change the world… if we allow it to.

Everyone with a young person in their lives needs to read book. Everyone - aunts, uncle, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, teacher, employer,…

Learn how to spot and head off drug use. You can’t turn back time once it has started. I feel for these parents. The lives of their children have been stolen from them. Where is the path to lead people away from drugs? How can we teach kids more coping skills? They don’t start as drug addicts. It’s not their goal in life. How can it be stopped?

Read this book and pray that it doesn’t happen in your family.

This is an eye-opening, gut wrenching book written by family members who have lost someone to addiction. You hear their stories, their pain, their frustrations. You see how addiction does not discriminate, does not only affect those in a certain socio-economic status. It does have a lasting ripple effect on everyone close to the addict. These stories are raw and unedited which adds to their emotion and truthfulness. This book is one that everyone should read!

This is a book that reaches your heart and touches your soul. The ripple effects of SUD goes way beyond the addicted. And these are those stories. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends tell their side. SUD is a community problem and only by ending the stigma can we begin to fully address the issue.
