A spate of brutal stabbings. An ambitious young detective. A killer hell-bent on revenge.
A father is found dead in his posh West London home. Stabbed to death. By somebody who couldn’t stop. There are seven or eight puncture wounds.
There’s no time to relax for recently married DI Rob Miller.
Now a second man is found brutally murdered in the same frenzied manner. Do the police have a serial killer on their hands?
The investigation leads Rob and his ex-lover Detective Jo Maguire to London’s undercover escort industry. It’s a risky world to dive into, and Rob’s feelings for Jo don’t help.
They realize that the murderer is leaving a blistering trail of revenge killings — and the violence is escalating.
Can Rob and Jo work together to stop the murderer before someone else pays the ultimate price?
The West London Murders by Biba Pearce is the second in the Detective Rob Miller series.
OMG, the first book had me questioning the sex of this author, and this one does too. I don't really care if they are male or female, but the writing reminds me of a young boy writing in the 1960's about women. Again, Jo Maguire is described as a "blond bombshell", and other women are described very sexually. The whole vibe was a book written in the 1960's. It's atrocious. Anyway, if the plot wasn't so good, and the fact that I have the fourth book in this series from NetGalley, I probably wouldn't be reading these books.
Character-wise, other than I'm not really fond of the relationship between Jo and Rob while Rob is still married, they are both well-written characters. However, I was a little surprised by Jo being kidnapped, as she has been portrayed as tough and very bright. I just can't see that happening. As well, his wife was an overly needy idiot in the first book, and is more so in this one. I just don't buy her mental illness -- I think she's blowing her fears out of proportion so that Rob will stick around. I could do without the whole love triangle. None of it feels right.
So, now for the good parts. The plot was really well laid out, was interesting, and kept me turning the pages. There were a number of suspects, and a couple of twists. It was actually quite suspenseful and times, and was a really fast read.
So overall, the actual mystery part of the book is really good. Seriously if not for the plots, I probably would have given up. I just really hate the way the author depicts women.
Anyway, until next time....

Somewhere in here there’s a really good detective novel trying to break free. I just don’t like the way women are portrayed here. It’s all a bit two dimensional and the plot isn’t interesting enough to keep me reading.
Well, well, well we have a good second book in this series. DCI Rob Miller is called to investigate the messy murder involving a victim stabbed multiple times with a knife and left to bleed to death. Soon enough we realize that was the first victim of a series.
The plot is pretty clever and the book is full of action. It is a fast read and the narrator does an excellent job.
The dynamic between Rob and his ex-lover, Detective Jo Maguire, continues with a vibe of "will they, won't they" through the entire book. And because the suspense is still in the air, it makes it more interesting.
As I said in my review of book one, I came across this series as it is set where I live and I absolutely loved it. This plot felt a little more intricate than the first, and while Rob ended up in a similar predicament to the first book, I am hoping that this fast tracks my #teamJo hashtag.
I really cannot wait for the next book. I love the procedural side of this one and being that bit longer than the first book I really got into it. As the first, fast-paced and action-packed, this author is certainly writing winners and is definitely a crime writer to watch.
DCI Rob Miller and his team have to investigate when a man is found stabbed to death, it doesn’t take long before another man is found dead with stab wounds. Can Rob and the team find the killer before anyone else dies? Is there a serial killer on the prowl? As well as having a major case to solve, Rob is getting frequent calls from his wife while he is working. Yvette is struggling to cope with being on her own while Rob works after being abducted when Rob worked on another case.
This is a new author to me and I have to say, what a great story. The characters are great and you feel as though you come to know them through the story. I was impressed with how the author wrote the death scenes, reading the victims final moments made quite an impact. I was gripped by the storyline and had many heart pounding moments! This is an intense thriller that left me wanting more and I shall certainly be reading more by the author.
Suspence full to last page. Fascinating what drives people to do what they do. The main character is most interesting, especially as he figures out what is going on and how the bodies are connected. Hope to read more about him.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Edge of your seat, fast paced thriller. With twists and turns. An unlikely serial killer on the loose getting revenge it seems, but for what? Keeps you reading to find out until late at night.
Great read Interesting characters and storyline. Very believable crime solver with no ridiculous short cuts. Both books illustrate the toll on the police officers and their families.Good attention to all that is involved to successfully solve the murders.
The West London Murders is book 2 in the Detective Rob Miller series by Biba Pearce. DI Rob Miller caught a case of a series of brutal stabbings, and it started DI Rob Miller thinking have we got a serial killer in the community? With the help of his ex-lover, Detective Jo Maguire began to follow leads, including the London undercover escort industry. Will DI Rob Miller and Detective Jo Maguire find the answers before another person dies? The readers of The West London Murders will continue to follow DI Rob Miller and Detective Jo Maguire's investigation to discover what happens.
I have not read any books by Biba Pearce before reading The West London Murders, and I did engage with the story and plot. However, I am unsure if I will read more books in this series. I enjoyed the way that Biba Pearce portrayed her characters and their interactions with each other throughout this book. The West London Murders was well written and researched by Biba Peace. I like Biba Pearce's description of the settings of The West London Murders, which complemented the book's plot.
The readers of The West London Murders will learn about the consequences of trauma on a person. Also, the readers of The West London Murders will understand the health issues that grift can cause on a person.
Newly married but still dealing with the trauma from earlier events, Rob is thrown back in at the deep end when a man is found brutally murdered in his home. Rob and the team must work quickly to find out why this man was targeted before it happens again. And then it does.
A fast paced thriller that keeps the pages turning. I am absolutely loving this series and can't wait to get started on book 3.
i have no idea why this series has such a hold on me, but it really does. the writing is just very engaging and i really like rob as a character. i have 2 more books from this series to read and i'm gonna be sad when it's over.
Gripping, fantastic narration. Listened to this one while working in the garden and the time flew past. DI Rob Millar is a very convincing character, great supporting cast.
This is book two of the DCI Rob Miller series and follows Rob as he returns to work full time, after the events of the previous year when he was tracking a serial killer. His then fiancé was kidnapped by the serial killer and had a mental breakdown afterwards, leaving Rob needing to spend time with her as she started to recover. She is still very shaken and won’t leave the house and still needs him around all the time, but after being promoted, he needs to get back to work. He gets stuck straight into a brutal knife attack which leaves a man dead in his home. The attack was one of rage with numerous knife wounds, even after the man was obviously dead.
His team try to work out who the man was and if there was a reason for him to be attacked in such a manner. Once his identity is discovered, another agency get involved. The National Crime Agency (NCA) believe he was a major part of a county wide drugs ring, and they want the murder kept under wraps until they have all their ducks lined up and can take down the whole organisation. The person they send to assist with Rob’s case is Jo, someone he had an affair with the previous year when he and his fiancé had split up for a while. He soon realises he still has feelings for her, but he is now married and can do nothing.
Soon, another man is killed with the same M.O. and then another, leading his initial murder case to be that of a serial killer and he and his team are now after another one again. They now have to try and find a link between all the men, but whilst two of them may have a link to escorts, the other is a normal married man with a happy marriage and no links to any sort of criminal activity. This throws a spanner in the case and Rob asks an old police friend for their advice and he points him in a completely different direction.
The killings have been committed with a high level of rage, but have left no DNA or clues behind at the scenes. The killer is obviously well organised and has a reason behind their targets and the team needs to uncover it and soon, before someone else is killed. The killer is out for revenge and the investigation leads them to the London sex industry and escorts, both organised and freelance. There is a lot of online investigation and even CCTV being looked at, to trace the killer and the smallest of clues will be important.
A great investigative storyline and some good surprises thrown in to confuse the identity of the killer and to throw a few of the main characters closer together. Rob and his wife continue to have differing opinions on the importance of his work and his absence from home, which leads to some difficult times for Rob and his career. A great main character and serial killer case to follow, which made for great reading. Very realistic and detailed parts to the investigation and also the real life problems police officers and their families have to contend with. Long and often unsocial hours, plus chances of injury, assault or even death. It is a dangerous job and often not one many really give much credit to. Rob has a difficult time with his wife during the pressures of a new serial killer case. Intriguing read with an unusual revenge killer on a rampage, who needs to be stopped and soon. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
A must read and one not to be missed. “I read this book and thought Wow – what a book!” This is book 2 in the DCI Rob Miller series and just like book 1 “The Thames Path Killer” it just grips you from the very first page and the pace and action doesn’t ease up at all. It is a series but both books can be read as a one off but hear me out. Read both books if you can. It all starts when DCI Rob Miller is called to a brutal and frenzied attack on a man to which newly promoted DCI Rob Miller takes charge of the case. The killer has stabbed the victim several times in a viscous and frenzied attack and very before long a second killing comes in with the same M. O. which then turns their attention and investigation to possibly being related or linked to the sex industry. When the third killing comes it makes the case into a serial killer investigation. But the killings of the men murdered and their profiles do not add up or make sense. The team start to investigate an escort industry and start looking at the victims and the link to the killer. Following on from the first book Rob ex lover who now works for the National Crime Agency work together but to what cost for Rob and his new but distraught wife? Rob, his police team the storyline comes across as real life as you can and you are drawn into the story as if you were there with them and part of it and can Rob and Jo work together to stop further murders? You’ll have to read to find out! You cannot put this book down and I thoroughly recommend you read it but start early as you will not want to stop until the ending. Biba Pearce sure does write great stories and although they are sometimes quite bloody it is a thriller of high quality. “A must read and highly recommended!”

A brutal stabbing puts DCI Rob Miller on the trail of a serial revenge killer in this gritty, suspenseful thriller from Amazon bestselling author B.L. Pearce. The body of a man is found in a residential home in west London. He’s been stabbed to death in what appears to be a frenzied rage attack. Newly promoted and recently married DCI Rob Miller is assigned the case. As Rob delves into the victim’s past, he discovers the known felon was under surveillance by the National Crime Agency, who send their latest recruit, Rob’s ex-lover, Jo Maguire, to work with him on the case. When a second man is murdered with the same M.O. it becomes obvious the two deaths are linked. The investigation leads them to London’s bourgeoning undercover sex industry and as they get more involved, they quickly realise that the murderer is leaving a blistering trail of revenge killings that are only going to escalate. Can DCI Miller and Jo work together to stop the murderer before he kills again?
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
It wasn’t bad but the last three chapters were just plain stupid. There were semi dumb things before the last three chapters, but to have basically the same ending as in book one. Rob has to race to save the 2nd women in his life?
What was totally stupid is the killer in her previous murders didn’t waste anytime in killing her victims, but with Jo. She hides I nJo’s house kidnaps her, drives to an other location, has her tied to a chair. Her MO was kill ASAP, but since it was Jo I’m surprised she didn’t go thru Starbucks for a latte.
Plus the f-word is used for no other purpose than to use it because it is such an I. Word.
There are more things I could gripe about but enough is enough.
Sorry Biba, though I had a half way decent series after book one, but number two was a big disappointment. In book three are both Yvette and Jo held captive by the deranged killer and Rob is forced to decide which one he must save?
I really enjoy this author’s books. She has a wonderful way of telling the story so that I’m sitting on the edge of my seat. It seems that there is mystery and suspense on every single page of this book from start to finish. I found the story mesmerizing and couldn’t put the book down if I tried until I had finished it. The plot is brilliant and fantastically written whilst the characters are wonderful and have depth to them. This is a brilliant mystery, suspense, crime drama and a must read for anyone who loves this genre.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow! What a fantastic and suspenseful read. With every page I was hooked more and more. I loved the main character, so well written and watching his character grow over the course of the book. He was a fantastic character, and the way he takes on the current case and dealing with his wife at home is amazing. This book will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time and leave you wanting more from this character and this world.
Suspense fills the pages from beginning to end. You're pulled in to the story the moment you read the first pages. It's well written, has strong and amazing characters and the story line is captivating and intriguing. You'll be on the edge of your seat as you turn the pages.

The Revenge Killer is the second book in the DCI Rob Miller series and is a gripping crime thriller.
This is a book meant to be read in one sitting because you do not want to put it down. The author kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish with DCI Rob Miller trying to identify and find a serial killer.
While by intent, I rarely review two books by the same author consecutively, I made an exception for The West London Murders by Biba Pearce. After reading the first book in Pearce’s Detective Rob Miller Mystery series, The Thames Path Killer, I was eager to continue the series. So, since I was awaiting the release of another book I’ve been looking forward to reading, I saw no reason not to jump into the second book in the series.
We pick up where we left off at the end of the first book. After some time off to recover from his last harrowing case, DI Rob Miller is back to work with his colleagues on the Putney Major Investigation Team. This time, under the watchful eye of Detective Superintendent Lawrence, the team grapples with a series of vicious stabbing murders. We’re straight into the action as DI Miller and his second DS Mallory respond to the home of a man found dead with multiple stab wounds. While they can’t work out how the victim earned his living, curiously, the man had significant wealth and owned many luxury possessions. Once the detectives find numerous burner phones inside the house, they suspect the victim might have been involved in drug trafficking. Miller gets confirmation of the theory when another outside agency, this time the National Crime Agency, intrudes into Miller’s murder investigation. The agency which investigates organized crime has an interest in his victim, Aadam Yousef, who they had kept under surveillance for months as a suspected major drug trafficking figure. Coincidentally, DCI Jo Maguire has transferred to the NCA since Miller last saw her, and he finds himself working with Maguire once again. Miller feels conflicted by it all since he and Yvette have reunited, and he also has romantic feelings for Maguire with whom he shared a brief amorous tryst in the previous book.
I like the romantic tension between Miller and Maguire. Pearce uses that as well as Miller’s difficult relationship with Yvette effectively as secondary strands of the plot. It adds interest for the reader, broadens the story, and helps add additional layers to the main characters. I noted in my review of the first book that I wished Pearce had given the Rob Miller character more depth. And, I feel she addressed this well in this second novel, leaving me feeling I understood the character and his motivations more. I must admit, I didn’t find Miller’s love interest, Yvette, likeable in the first book and like her even less in this one. She has always been selfish and preoccupied with herself and her own affairs, and now suffering PTSD symptoms after the trauma she suffered at the end of The Thames Path Killer, she is almost unbearable. While Miller has his flaws, they hardly bear any comparison to Yvette’s shortcomings. Predictably, the relationship only deteriorates further in this book.
Not long after the first murder investigation begins, more bodies fall, and the team faces multiple murders to investigate with an obvious connection (someone feeling very stabby) that shows the crimes are related and all committed by the same perpetrator. I very much enjoyed this as it’s clear the killings will continue until the police stop the killer and this truly builds the tension and suspense. I’m enjoying this series and particularly like Miller, his partner, DS Mallory, and Jo Maguire, as well as his grouchy boss and other colleagues. Pearce also ends the book with an interesting turn of events, so I’m certainly keen to see what comes next.
Unusual storyline, as the serial killer was unexpected. Gave the impression of being meek and mild, whilst the true persona was evil, vindictive and addicted to killing those who fit the profile selected by family experience. When Rob first discussed the case with Tony, his profiler friend, he was surprised at the conclusion drawn from the information he had supplied. Yet it fitted, when Rob thought about it and pointed the team in the right direction, even though it was only when Jo Maguire was attacked and kidnapped, that the pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place. Jo had been consulted when it became three victims, hence a serial killer. The killer saw how friendly she was with Rob, his now wife, Yvette having moved out to live with her sister. Having demanded his constant attention, and not accepting his coming off light duties following the Surrey Stalker attack on both of them. Back to a normal workload as DI, she became ultra clinging wouldn't accept that he was unable to drop everything and rush home when she was scared or lonely. No longer the high maintenance model, she was still high maintenance as a victim, refusing help, until Rob asked colleague, Becks to help. Rob married his wife in France, following the Stalker attack as he blamed himself for putting her in danger, but quickly realised it hadn't been a rational decision. This series improves with each book, would like to see Yvette permanently out of the picture. Jo Maguire has such a strong character and is very empathetic towards both victims and the perpetrators - even when she is the victim.
This is yet another excellent story in the DI Rob Miller series. Once again, it was refreshing to read a story set in a part of the country I know well, but more than that it was a really great storyline, and it was good to renew our acquaintance with the characters from the first book. This time the plot was dark and even more chilling than the previous case that the team were faced with. The chase to identify an extremely violent killer becomes more difficult with every new lead they are presented with, and the only way to succeed is to set-up a sting to try and snare their quarry. Something which proves to be both frustrating and dangerous.
We also find Rob and Yvette married since the previous story, but is it a mistake? Should Yvette really be married to a Detective who works long hours and is never home? Rob must battle the conflict in his marriage alongside his gruelling workload. Should he be concentrating more on his wife, or does the case come first? Then Jo Maguire, who now works for the National Crime Agency, returns to head up a case that may have a cross-over with the one Rob is currently investigating, and they get the chance to work together once again. This brings back memories from their previous relationship, and Rob finds it hard to keep their friendship professional. The ending culminates in an extremely tense climax, which keeps the reader on the edge of their seat and leaves us wanting more of this well written and enjoyable series.
The West London Murders by Biba Pearce 8/10/2021 Kindle
When a successful business man is stabbed multiple times in his home, DCI Rob Miller is assigned the case. It’s not long before other similar killings follow. The clues begin coming to light along with a few red herrings. There is the usual number of “you’ve got to be kidding” moments but the story line is strong enough to hold the reader’s attention. Not a “must read” but generally entertaining enough to follow the series.
I found the domestic soap opera boring at best and poorly described. The main character is so prone to making stupid mistakes you want to kick him down the stairs. Yvette was so much of a pain in earlier additions; I can’t wait to see her gone.
Then there’s the problem my pet peeves; illogical happenings, logical questions and leads not asked or followed, and characters blatantly putting themselves in harm’s way. Unfortunately, this has all of those, and an especially final few scenes. Recommended with reservations.
