Why is the wrong man always the hardest to resist?
Aidan Kendrick may be rich, mysterious and hot as anything, but he's also surly, brooding and deeply troubled. Not the kind of guy Sloan Caldwell can really afford to get mixed up with. She's head of the historical society, so her sole interest in the enigmatic newcomer, she keeps reminding herself, is the heritage home he's renovating on Palmer's Island. Right. He's tall, dark and gorgeous spelled with a capital G. Soon Sloan's attention is focused only on the bedroom as she and Aidan give in to a lust that's as intense as it is immediate, and pleasure is the only object...until tragedy interrupts, and they have to catch a killer!
Wendy Etherington was born and raised in the deep South—and she has the fried chicken recipes and NASCAR ticket stubs to prove it. The author of thirty books, she writes full-time from her home in South Carolina, where she lives with her husband, two daughters and an energetic Shih Tzu named Cody.
Aidan Kendrick comes to Palmer's Island because he needs to get away from the media coverage that surrounded his parents' murder. He wants to be left alone, but instead gets just the opposite when he meets the head of the historical society Sloan Caldwell, her well-meaning friends, Sloan's ex-boyfriend, and her father the sheriff who are always dropping by on him unexpectedly, which in turn leads to some very humorous situations. There's also a mystery to be solved when one of the islanders is murdered. I really enjoyed this book a lot, and the secondary characters were so much fun. This was the first Wendy Etherington book I read and I look forward to reading more from her.
It was entertaining anyway. The h, local librarian, sheriff's daughter, and member of the preservation society, invades the H's sphere of existence because he's bought the local mansion. The H, hiding and grieving from his parents' recent murder, reluctantly finds himself being pulled into the open, and falling for her.
Adding to the story is the rest of the preservation society, and the murder of a local handyman. Also, the return of the h's ex who wanted to take up where they left off (which would be his breaking up with her and going after some secretary).
Actually I give this book 3,5 stars. It was a quick, fun read. It was a murder mystery.
Aidan Kendrick is new to Palmer's Island, South Carlina. He is running from the loss of his parents. All he wants is to be left alone and to restore the historical mansion that is now his home. He has a problem though. Any restoration must be approved by the local historical society.
Sloan Caldwell is the local librarian, president of the historical society, the sheriff's daughter, and amateur detective. She is also one hot looking woman. The sparks fly when Aidan and Sloan meet. Things keep getting hotter when they combine forces to find the person that murdered Aidan's carpenter/handyman.
The love story and the conflict is simple. However, I liked the chemistry between the hero and the heroine. The mystery is also a simple one to solve, but it was fun to read.
I also loved the town and the stories behind the people who lived in it.
