If you commit a crime on Vaharis 6, there's more than one way to work off your sentence...
Corin left his home to escape a life that wasn’t his own, but he didn’t get far before that freedom he’d barely managed to grasp was snatched away from him again as he’s imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. A tentative friendship leads him to an escape, and then a whole new adventure begins on another planet … with a handsome Alpha considering him as a potential mate. Everything seems too good to be true, though Corin soon begins to feel safe in this new world. All he’s ever wanted is a life of his own, and he soon begins to see more opportunities than he’s ever had before. As the Alpha courts him, Corin must decide if his heart can submit the way his body has.
This installment in the series was very short and very boring. I was absolutely not invested in the MCs, the story was very superficial and revolved around the wolf pack's alpha getting laid...oh I'm sorry, getting a long-term relationship. 🙄
Corin was a young Omega wolf shifter wrongfully imprisoned on Varharis 6. He was made an offer to come to Vondal, a moon, where a pack of wolf shifters created a respectful and peaceful community. They weren't as wealthy as the other packs and they lacked Omegas, so Corin was given a chance. No one would force him or hurt him in any way, so that was a plus.
The Alpha, Roman, was a nice guy who could cook, clean and looked like your average underwear model, so it didn't take a lot of convincing for Corin to give him a shot.
The story ends with them getting pregnant, but I felt like all of that was just a foundation, sort of a world building for the secondary love story that was happening to the true stars of this show, the side characters Felix, the Vondal's esteemed surgeon, and an older blank shifter who's sterile, so he doesn't take a mate, has been alone for at least 10 years and is shy, awkward and very smart, and Cody, Corin's Omega bear shifter friend, so a taller, stronger and younger bear of a man, yeah, let's put it that way.
Immediately I was invested in these two and all throughout the story the author gave us a lot of them, but she also added a bonus story of their happy ending.
The writing was still stiff and not that good, the storytelling is more fluid than in the previous books, but I feel like there's still something missing, especially with Felix and Cody's story, because we weren't there for their first intimate moments and the whole problem of Felix not being able to shift, well, I thought that was leading somewhere, I thought that particular piece of information was important and would be resolved. But, of course, it wasn't.
As far as grammar goes, I was constantly troubled with the use of "gonna".
So I'm going to continue reading this series, I think that the original ideas are there, some couples are memorable, but the storyline still isn't well executed, swiss cheese holes everywhere, endings are rushed and issues aren't resolved.
Eh... it was ok. The "book" ended somewhere around 60% iirc? And then there was a "bonus" story with some side characters that I just didn't care enough about, so I skipped it. 🤷♀️
