Illus. in full color. "Best friends Robby and Arlo dress alike and do most of the same things. However, their friendship is in jeopardy over a bet about who will lose the next tooth. Realistic, humorous illustrations provide ample reading clues on every page. Should encourage emerging readers to flex their reading muscles." --School Library Journal.
Joanna Cole, who also wrote under the pseudonym B. J. Barnet, was an author of children’s books who teaches science.
She is most famous as the author of The Magic School Bus series of children's books. Joanna Cole wrote over 250 books ranging from her first book Cockroach to her famous series Magic School Bus.
Cole was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby East Orange. She loved science as a child, and had a teacher she says was a little like Ms. Frizzle. She attended the University of Massachusetts and Indiana University before graduating from the City College of New York with a B.A. in psychology. After some graduate education courses, she spent a year as a librarian in a Brooklyn elementary school. Cole subsequently became a letters correspondent at Newsweek, and then a senior editor for Doubleday Books for Young Readers.
I enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Robby and Arlo lost a tooth. I also enjoyed this book because I did not like the part when Arlo had to give Robby ten cents because they had a bet of whose tooth would fall out first.
Great book for teaching kids about feelings and social behaviors. Appropriate for grades 1-3. It's about friendship, loss, animosity and making amends. There are not many books out there about boys and felings and I have a son that struggles with social issues due to ADHD this is a great addition to our book collection.
I picked this up out of pure nostalgia. The illustrations are obviously by the same artist as the POLK STREET SCHOOL series, which I adored as a child. This is either a relatable story about friendship and loose teeth for modern children, or a trip down memory lane for '80s kids.
A little long for a Step 2 book, but I liked that it had Arlo being jealous and petty. It should help kids be able to identify when they too are jealous and petty.
