The last thing he wants is to bring danger to Nadine Macfarlane’s door. The gentle beauty has been through enough, and has the scars—physical and emotional—to prove it.

But she’s his only option.

Trying to heal from wounds caused by trusting the wrong person, Nadine has spent the past two years hiding from nearly everyone. The only exception has been her online relationship with Wyatt. So when they meet face-to-face by sheer chance, she thinks it’s a sign from the universe that it’s time to start living.

Not that it’s time to start dying.

As Wyatt’s secret comes out, Nadine realizes she has to face the past in order to save the future.

OK, Janie Crouch has just moved up to one of the top five authors from whom I will always buy books. Now, mind you, that means if they write the freaking alphabet, I'll buy it. I read this whole Linear Tactical series out of order. I blame that on Amazon who, when I searched for her name after someone telling me she wrote a damn fine book, they didn't have the books in order. So I read Ghost first, realized I was WAY ahead of myself in terms of this group, then went back and started over.

I received an ARC of this book.

Scout. Wyatt's book. Or should I say Wyatt and Nadine's story because I'll have a hard time separating the two of them ever again.. Wyatt's been in love with her since he saw her in the hospital after her boyfriend attempting to kill her, and the person he was stalking. I try to never give out spoilers, so you'll have to read the book to know what I'm talking about.

Wyatt and Nadine have had an online friendship going since then. She doesn't like being around people much because she doesn't trust her decision making ability, after boyfriend Travis. Wyatt, well now, Wyatt is playing a waiting game, waiting until Nadine decides to come back into the light so he can ask her out, or maybe ask her to marry him. Yep, he's very serious.

So when he has to travel on business, he decides on the way back he'll make a detour and visit Nadine at her slightly off the beaten path home in Idaho. That's where the real trouble starts. Wyatt has something Mosaic wants (remember them? You will). And they're quite willing to kill people to get it. Nadine gets him out of a jam (and this part of the story was previously published in an anthology, so while you're reading it may sound familiar, but for heaven's sake don't stop there, it gets much much better).

This story was one part romance, one part adventure, and one part Linear Tactical Family. I think, if you've ever read Janie Crouch, that's all I have to say to get you to read this book.

But Ms Crouch, you keep climbing up my virtual list. You keep this up? You'll have a fan for life. I love it when someone can balance dialogue with narrative, without making the story seem contrived. You did it. Now, if you don't mind, do it again. :-)

Action, drama, suspense, and humor. Everything I love best about the genre. There was just something so charmingly endearing about suave security operative Wyatt Highfield being turned into a tongue-tied schoolboy confessing his feelings to his crush. It was the cutest, sweetest, most awkward thing I have ever read. I loved it! And watching Nadine blossom under the pressure was a delight to behold. Now, I think I need to read/reread everything from this author, because there was some of the backstory here that wasn’t familiar to me at all.

If you have read Survival Instinct, you will be familiar with the heroine of Scout; but no worries if you haven't read it! Nadine suffered at the hand of a crazy ex boyfriend and has become a recluse. Crouch does a good job of portraying the varying symptoms of those who struggle with PTSD.

Wyatt, aka Scout, is part of the Linear Tactical team. He met Nadine when she was at her lowest point, but he has never seen her in a poor light. When he is running from bad guys, he ends up at Nadine's. It is not the reunion he had in mind, and now they are both in danger.

Nadine's trauma happened a couple years prior to this story, so you are seeing someone who has physically healed but is struggling with the mental health aspect of survival. I thought her story was well done. She wants to reclaim parts of her life, but she is struggling with self image doubt, fear, etc. Wyatt was a good hero for her-as a member of the Linear tactical team he is certainly well equipped to help Nadine feel safe. However, he also brings trouble with him! These two were good for each other and I enjoyed their story. There is a wonderful bonus epilogue that readers of the LT series will certainly enjoy!

Nadine Macfarlane has been through a lot and the last thing she needs is for more danger to be brought right to her doorstep. Especially in the form of her crush, hunky Wyatt ‘Scout’ Highfield showing up like fate was involved when he is really right in the middle of an extremely deadly mission.

“I need you to remind me that we’re both still alive and that’s something not to take for granted.”

Scout is part of the Linear Tactical series, a standalone story with an hea, but not everything is tied up in a neat bow. It is my first book by Janie Crouch but I was able to follow along and never felt lost. This is definitely a series and author I want to go back and catch up on.

Wyatt and Nadine’s story is full of action and suspense, intrigue and passion, angst and anxiety ; the chemistry between Wyatt and Nadine is sizzling. This story has twists and turns that kept me glued, waiting to see what would happen next. Danger is hot on their tail. Will Wyatt and Nadine get to LT or will the bad guys get them first? Plus I had to know would there ever be forgiveness by Nadine for Lexi ?
Really great to get 3 additional epilogues from her previous Linear Tactical books. Brings the feels 💕💕💕📚📚📚.

My Rating: 4.7 stars ********

Scout by Janie Crouch
Linear Tactical #

As I began, I kept feeling I had met the characters in this book before and then I twigged to the fact that I HAD read this book as part of an anthology. So, did I put the book down? Nope, not at all! I kept reading and enjoyed every minute of the second read just as much as I did the first.

What I liked:
* Wyatt “Scout” Highfield: strong, focused, patient, knows what he wants, protective, lethal, a force to be reckoned with – perfect for Nadia.
* Nadia MacFarlane: a woman who has suffered much, scarred internally and externally, a good friend, professional, plucky, capable, forgiving, a survivor, good friend to Chloe, ready to life, and perfect with and for Wyatt. She is NOT a pushover.
* The dynamics between Wyatt and Nadia.
* The openness, honesty, and communication between Wyatt and Nadia.
* The strength both main characters showed throughout the story.
* The team scenes and how the team worked together.
* Ray’s skill set and how it was used in this story.
* That there was a happy ending.
* The three epilogues for those who have read previous books in the series.
* That the bad guy did not win.
* Wondering if Mosaic will be taken down and just how it will happen.

What I didn’t like:
* Lexington…you will know why if you read this book.
* Mosaic: I don’t know enough about them but know they are evil and hope they will be taken down in the future.
* Having to say goodbye to the series and now wait till the next book is ready to read.

Did I enjoy this book? Definitely
Would I read more in the series? Without a doubt!

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Scout is book eleven-point-five in Janie Crouch’s Linear Tactical series, and it probably wasn’t the best place for me to start. It’s my own fault for accepting that the story would work fine alone – because, while it did, it missed the mark for the same reason.

I’ll be honest and say there were a few moments where I contemplated giving this one a three-star rating, yet there were not enough of those for me to decide to round my rating up. I think, in some ways, I would have enjoyed this one more if I’d read the other books in the series. It felt like a bonus for fans, giving the story of a side character, and did not have enough depth for me to feel any real connection with it. Everything happened quickly, yet I never quite felt the connection to the characters or the story that would have resulted in me being hooked.

All in all, a quick and easy read. I’m sure fans of the series will enjoy this bonus, but it was not enough for me.

In this latest installment of the Linear Tactical series we get plenty of action, intrigue, suspense, danger, intense passion and a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Scout was a great romantic suspense read that I devoured in one sitting.

Wyatt and Nadine have become one of my favorite couples. This story has just the right amount of mystery, secrets and not to mention the sizzling hot chemistry that will had me rooted to my seat and not wanting it to end. This was simply a beautiful story and once again, Janie Crouch has produced an action packed, suspense filled love story.

I enjoyed the original novella version (part of an anthology) I read a while back so much that when this expanded version was released, I snapped it up. I'm glad I did. Wyatt (Scout) and Nadine are such wonderful characters. And, as always in the Linear Tactical Universe, the action was tense and the mystery twisted around to a satisfying conclusion.

Nadine first appeared in Ms. Crouch's Instinct series. Possible the most real of all the LT heroines, I was so glad she finally got her own story. Kudos to Wyatt for being smart enough to fall in love with her.

There's no way to rate a Janie Crouch Linear Tactical book any less than 5 stars. This book was included in an anthology, but it has been added to and published alone to join its counterparts. I've read both and liked this version better

I enjoyed Wyatt and Nadine’s story back when it was just a novella in the Danger and Desire box set. The fast pacing and suspenseful plot was already a great read, but when I learned Scout would be an expanded story why yes, I one-clicked this pretty and I’m happy I did! The story was more fully fleshed out, giving a stronger backstory and deeper personalities and answered some questions I had from the novella. (AND YAY-there’s 3 extra epilogues with favorite characters!!! That alone were worth the price:)

Scout was another thrilling LT read and the romance was a perfect blend of sweet and steamy. Also a wonderful shout out for those epilogues tying up some loose ends and giving a satisfying updates on fav characters!

I received an advance reader copy from the author. This is my honest review.

SCOUT by Janie Crouch is 5 star wonderful! Nadine is sweet and brave and Wyatt is sweet, brave, and tough. I love that neither of them do stupid things just to extend a plot line. Fully realized characters, a plot that makes sense, great dialogue, and romance.

Scout as a novella packed so more punch, it had more development, heat, and freshness both on the action side as well on the relationship and romance side than some novels do. And now we get an extended novel-length of a story for Nadine and Wyatt and five spoons are not nearly enough to rate their story that still felt fresh and enticing and exciting.
This story is an absolutely delightfully ardent, riveting, endearing tale that captivated my mind and heart.
I adored Nadine, she is one of those characters you want to be friends with. She has her hurdles, she is not the cookie-cutter romance novel heroine, she is even better: she is like one of us readers! She struggles with her size, she was doing social distancing before it was a thing, yet she has strength, she is smart, she is capable, she is a sweetheart with a caring, generous heart. She is just the kind of relatable, strong, lovable, and able heroine that Janie Crouch writes so well, and those ladies are one of the reasons why I love her books.
And I couldn't imagine a better mate to Nadine than Wyatt. Just the fact that they have been penpal's for a year won me over, because while corresponding by writing you get to know the other person on a completely different, deeper level than with casual meetings in busy places while dating. They have a solid, deep foundation to start to build upon and the palpable attraction between them sizzles.
Without a fail, I loved every moment of this compelling, high-tempo, gripping tale of fighting for your life and for your future in the mids of intense suspense and ardent romance.
The Linear Tactical series is a must-read for romantic suspense readers!

(original review) I mean I knew I'd love it but I'm still surprised that I'm still as much invested and in love with this group of people as I was when I first read Cyclone.

Nadine and Wyatt were perfect together and this novella was another fabulous read to add to my favorite series!

(added content to the story): And as this was my second time reading this it was still as thrilling as it was the first time. I loved the strength that Nadine showed in times of danger as well as when she "face off" with Lexi. It's really hard not to love her. As for the extended epilogs? They sure made my night😁

SCOUT by Janie Couch is part of the author’s Linear Tactical romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Linear Tactical. This is former Special Forces Green Beret soldier Wyatt ‘Scout’ Highfield, and virtual assistant Nadine Macfarlane’s story line. You do not have to have read the previous story lines to understand or follow the current time line although several characters cross over for back story and cohesion.

NOTE: SCOUT was originally released in the multi-authored anthology DANGER AND DESIRE.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Wyatt and Nadine) SCOUT follows the friends to lovers relationship between former Special Forces Green Beret soldier Wyatt ‘Scout’ Highfield, and virtual assistant Nadine Macfarlane. Several months earlier Nadine Macfarlane’s life imploded and she has lived on her own, off the grid in an effort heal both physically and mentally but the one constant in her life has been former Special Forces soldier Wyatt Highfield, the man who stars in her fantasies and dreams. On the run, trying to stay one step ahead, Wyatt lands in Idaho Falls, where a battered and beaten Wyatt will ‘accidentally’ run into our story line heroine, an accident Nadine attributes to fate but what our heroine doesn’t know is that Wyatt has been keeping an eye on Nadine Macfarlane for close to one year. Trouble has followed Wyatt to Nadine’s front door, and with it the possibility of the two not surviving. With Wyatt and Nadine on the run, our couple must call the team at Linear Tactical in an effort to make it home alive.

SCOUT is a quick read; a story of danger, drama, friendship, love and a happily ever after. The premise is intriguing and inviting; the romance is passionate; the characters are energetic and spirited.

I don't have enough good things to say about this book! I loved it as part of the Danger and Desire anthology, but Janie blew me away with this extended version. The additional scenes made an already great book even better, kind of like watching a director's cut of a great movie.

Wyatt and Nadine ... I really love everything about them! Nadine seems like a real person to me, showing all her doubts and fears, which makes her more human. After all the pain and suffering she's been through (in Survival Instinct) I was so happy she got her happily ever after with a man who truly loves and adores her.

Read, enjoy and be prepared to cry in the three (yes, THREE) extended epilouges. I couldn't put the book down, so make sure you have plenty to drinks and snacks.

Long distance protector.

Scout had watched over Nadine from the time she had almost been burned alive by a psychopath two years ago. He was waiting for her to heal, no matter how long that might take. Unfortunately, his meeting with Frank Jenkins moved up the face-to-face between him and Nadine. While trying to get computer information to Blaze at Linear Tactical, Scout puts Nadine's life in danger.

Oh i really loved Wyatt and Nadine story....she is an amazing and courageous woman for sure and of course seeing all the group together make the story even better even if i kind of got the feeling the series was slowly reaching an end not yet but soon and that gave me a little bittersweet feeling.

Now let's focus on the essential : it's wonderfully written, the tension is building quickly and does not go down before the real end, there are romantic scenes , funny moment and the chase for the mysterious drive is keeping us on edge . Wyatt is really protective of Nadine so he is a bit surprised to see her making the saving more than once but it's simply too well for both of them.
it's a fantastic intalment in the series.

This is probably my least favorite novel in the series so far. I understand that it’s basically a lead up for the next book but it was far too short with a rushed romance and an ending so abrupt I was actually angry.

A quick, exciting read! If you're a fan of Ms. Crouch's Linear Tactical series, don't miss this novella tucked inside the DANGER AND DESIRE anthology with Elle James, Cat Johnson and more.

While I have some serious crushes on the LT heroes, once again, Ms. Crouch has created a heroine with the spirit, resourcefulness and heart to be his equal. Wyatt (Scout) and Nadine are a wonderful couple. She has no idea how long he's been protecting her from afar. But now that the bad guys have forced them to get up close and personal, their long-distance friendship blossoms into something more. I read it in a night!

Bonus: The heroine is a supporting character from Janie Crouch's Instinct series. (I love when interesting supporting characters get their own story to shine in!)

Part of the Danger and Desire: A Romantic Suspense Anthology Anthology. Wyatt and Nadine make a great romantic couple. Their relationship developed with internet interactions over a period of time and felt real and not forced. I loved how Nadine stepped up when Wyatt was in trouble. It showed her inner strength, something she hadn't realized she had. Wonderful story and series. This is a standalone book but there are ties to the prior books in the series as well as those characters making substantial contributions to this book.

After the murder of a friend, Wyatt Highfield is on the run with a computer drive that he has to get to Linear Tactical as soon as possible. With few places to go to evade the baddies chasing him, he ends up at the remote cabin of Nadine, a woman he has watched over for two years. He only knows that the information on the drive will break up a human trafficking ring. He didn't plan on the danger he has brought to Nadine's door.

Nadine Macfarlane suffered both mentally and physically at the hands of her friend's stalker. She survived but has deep scars. She has become almost a recluse in her cabin in Idaho doing her job as a personal assistant remotely have little physical interactions. Her lifeline is Wyatt, who she chats and facetimes with frequently. When he shows up out of the blue, she thinks it's fate and takes it as a sign it is time for a change.

When Nadine finds out why Wyatt is really there, she isn't happy, but she is drawn to Wyatt and determined to help him. The attraction is real and with danger all around, they find love and comfort with each other. With the baddies on his trail, Wyatt and Nadine make it to Linear Tactical with the baddies on their heels. This may be the final stand in this battle, but it is far from the end of the war.

Talk about packing a punch! I've had a few book friends recommend Janie Crouch stories to me, and I finally took the chance with Scout and now I'm all about diving fully into this series! So much was packed in that I forgot I was reading a novella and totally got lost in the story. All the feels and I loved it all! I agree with Wyatt, Nadine was simply amazing and so strong and gave Wyatt exactly what he needed. Wyatt was pretty amazing in his own way, protective, caring, and all about Nadine.

I feel like I just discovered a new author that’ll end up on my favorite-go-to list with the way the words enclosed the Linear Tactical world around me -- plus, I kinda wanna find that kind of thing for real! Lol

I first read this story in its novella format in the anthology Danger and Desire: A Romantic Suspense Anthology . Since then, it has been revised and lengthened, with several scenes added to fill in and clarify some of the action. I loved that one of those scenes was an expanded beginning, showing how Wyatt got the item at the center of his trouble. Some of the names and details have been altered, but it is still a pulse-pounding opening.

Nadine is a virtual personal assistant, enabling her to maintain her hermit-like life while still making a living. She first appeared in Survival Instinct as Chloe's best friend and was rescued from a dire situation by Wyatt. Since that event, Nadine has worked on healing from the emotional and physical trauma she experienced. Part of that healing is the email friendship she enjoys with Wyatt. Wyatt has waited patiently on her recovery as he longs to spend more time with her.

When Nadine encounters Wyatt at the local farmers' market, she thinks Fate has brought them together. She's finally ready to let Wyatt know of her interest in him. But Wyatt is in deep trouble, on the run for his life, with information crucial to stopping a human trafficking ring. He dreads bringing danger to her door but desperately needs her help.

I loved this story. It was a tight, gripping tale of suspense, healing, and romance. I loved how comfortable Nadine and Wyatt were with each other, talking easily and sharing activities. I felt terrible for both of them when Nadine told Wyatt of her feelings, and he couldn't respond the way he wanted to because of the guilt he felt over what he was hiding. When danger comes calling, Wyatt has to come clean about those secrets. I ached for Nadine because she had just started to trust her judgment and now wonders if she was taken for a fool again. I loved how Wyatt worked so hard to show Nadine what an amazing woman she is. She soon learns that she's much stronger than she thinks she is, and I loved seeing her blossom under adversity. The ending was great with love and laughs and happiness.

The suspense of the story was terrific. It began with Wyatt's meeting with the man with the computer drive and hurtled forward at a breathtaking pace. I could feel Wyatt's worry about bringing danger to Nadine while dodging the bad guys at the market and trying to keep the truth from her. That all fell apart the next morning when she dropped him off at a hotel but then got worried when he didn't answer her call. I thought she was incredible as she pulled off an unexpected rescue - loved the pepper spray! - right under the bad guys' noses. From a house on fire to a chase through the woods, my heart rate never got a chance to settle. It was great to see the Linear Tactical folks get involved - a terrific scene at the diner - with their incredible teamwork. The final confrontation was a nail-biter, especially the last part.

Another added scene came at the end of the book. In the previous book, Redwood , Gavin met and fell in love with Lexi Johnson. In the book Survival Instinct , Lexi's real name was Alexandra Adams, an actress. In that book, some of her actions were partly responsible for the injuries Nadine and her friend Chloe suffered. Lexi paid her debt to society for her actions and has since turned her life around. Nadine knows that to completely move on with her life, she has to face Lexi. I loved that conversation and the depth of emotion and understanding it portrayed.

Included at the end of Scout are three bonus epilogues. All three epilogues take place on the same day but involve different couples. The first one was originally published as part of Phoenix and centers around Girl Riley and Boy Riley. The second was part of Baby and concerned him and Quinn, while the third one is new and belongs to Dorian ( Ghost ) and Ray. All three are emotional as each couple receives unexpected and potentially worrisome news. The last one also had some intense moments with a surprise at the end. I loved how the Linear Tactical crew worked together to protect Ray's privacy.

Where is the rear of the book?

I assume the story concludes in Blaze’s book but that was the most abrupt and expected “ending” ever. Totally confused. I wasn’t expecting novella length. Good while it lasted I suppose? Disappointing compared to the others. The love story felt rushed. They are pen pals and then finally see each other again and get engaged a week later....?

In preparation for this extended version of Scout coming out, I read Survival Instinct and re-read the Scout novella in the D&D Anthology. I am glad that I read Survival Instinct because I had a better understanding of the backstory of Nadine’s past and injuries, but re-reading the novella kind of confused me. If you haven’t read that novella yet I suggest you don’t read it before the extended version so you don’t get confused like I did. I kept reading something in the extended version and trying to compare it to the novella version to see what the differences were and it just got my too confused. So don’t be like me and do that. Lol!

Scout is the story of Wyatt Highfield and Nadine MacFarlane and the captivating story of how they met, bond, and become a couple. Wyatt Highfield is a member of Linear Tactical, who travels the world on different missions and jobs rather than teaching classes at home base in Oak Creek, Wyoming. Nadine MacFarlane is a virtual assistant for her Hollywood clients while she enjoys the solitude and quiet of McCammon, Idaho.

Wyatt and Nadine first met in Survival Instinct after Nadine and her best friend, Chloe Jeffers Westman’s near death encounter that left painful visible and invisible wounds on Nadine that are still healing. Ever since they met each other, they have been in contact with each other forming a friendship in Nadine’s eyes and an online courtship in Wyatt’s. Even though Wyatt’s obsession with Nadine was a little creepy and stalker like, I loved how Nadine loved it in her own way since its something she has never had before, someone to care for her that much. Their connection is pure, raw, and full of passion and love. The way Wyatt lends her his silent support touched my heart.

When danger arrives at Nadine’s door, Wyatt and Nadine have to work together to stay safe and get to Oak Creek without getting caught by the bad guys. Despite how weak Nadine thinks she is due to her past, she proves to be an amazingly strong and smart woman, who can think and react at a moment’s notice and the perfect partner for Wyatt. Loved how Ray was a cheerleader for Nadine! I knew that it would take a certain man to win the heart of Nadine MacFarlane and Wyatt Highfield proved to be the right man worth of her heart and love. And because of their emotionally and physically wounded pasts, they are able to heal, move forward, and live a life feel of fear and full of love.

I don’t want to give away too much because I believe you should read this book yourself, but I loved the ending and the 3rd epilogue so much! I need Blaze’s book to come out ASAP so I can get more of all that!!!!! Major emotional book hangover over here after reading that epilogue!!!

Even though Scout can be read as a standalone book, I highly suggest reading the whole Linear Tactical Series. Cyclone is the first book in the series and trust me, you will not regret reading them! I have re-read the series at least 3 times now and they never get old! I am a little sad that the series is coming to an end, but I am so excited about the new series, Zodiac Tactical.

Thank you, Janie for writing another amazing book with incredible characters that I love so much!

After someone she should have been able to trust betrays her in one of the most painful ways, Nadine has isolated herself from her friends, family, and most of the public in Idaho. Working from home, keeping in touch with her best friend via phone and facetime, and most importantly, being an active electronic pen-pal to Wyatt, friend and long-time secret crush, are what keep her busy while she avoids the outside world. When she runs into Wyatt in person seemingly by chance after 2 years of her hiding away, Nadine suddenly starts to believe that the universe is giving her a sign to start truly living out in the open again. However, what seems like a chance to Nadine is actually reluctantly planned by Wyatt as he is running for his life after he unexpectedly dropped into a dangerous situation while doing a favor for Linear Tactical. Although he’s been waiting to see her in person for years, this is one situation that he wishes he could have avoided-putting her in danger, only this time, it's because of him.
As an addition to Janie Crouch’s Linear Tactical series, I had high hopes for this novel, especially after Redwood. Unfortunately, although this book started with great potential, the plot fell flat for me. As a novella(which I was not expecting either), Scout lacked the usual tension and suspense that the other novels in this series have. I enjoyed reading and learning about both characters. Nadine was a well-written character. After going through something horrific, she could have buried her head in the sand and hide more from the danger that Scout had put her in, but instead she took everything in stride and persevered through her fear. Wyatt was also a good character, but I had a harder time connecting with him as a hero in this book compared to the other heroes in the past books. I like the gap in his character: a bit awkward in his adoration of Nadine while also being a smooth ex-military badass was fun to read. However, I do feel like there was something lacking in their story. The ending felt rushed and even though I know that this was a novella, the ending came so abruptly that I thought I had actually missed parts of the story and went back to make sure.
Overall, I feel that if this story had been a full-length novel as the other books in the series were, this might have been a better story as there would be more time to expand on Nadine and Wyatt’s relationship. I kept waiting for relief after all the tension in the beginning of the book but there really was none that felt natural to the story. As the other books in the series were delightful to read and the fact that Janie Crouch has shown she is a wonderful author in them, I had high hopes and expectations for this addition to the Linear Tactical series and was disappointed in the way that this one fell flat for me. I will continue to read the next addition to the series, Blaze, with hopes that this book was simply a blip in an otherwise very exciting and interesting series.

Just finished reading Scout from the Linear Tactical Series and Janie Crouch, the author, did not disappoint. Linear Tactical sends Wyatt (aka Scout) to meet Frank, an unskilled, wannabe Linear Tactical hero, to pick up evidence in Salt Lake City. The hand-off of the external drive to Wyatt happens, and Frank is immediately shot in the head as they exit the building. Here the story takes off with mega heart-beating action.

Wyatt is forced to escape the group chasing him to get their hands on the flash drive. It obviously is VERY important as they are willing to kill for it. Throughout the chaos, Wyatt has been pondering stopping by Nadine McFarlane’s home in Idaho, but when his car is run off the road and he dumps his phone, he has no other choice but to surprise her at her Monday trip to the outdoor market. Wyatt had met Nadine several years ago during a mission Linear Tactical was on and Nadine was saved from psychopath who attempted to kill her. Nadine has been living a quiet life in Idaho and has been healing while Wyatt had been corresponding with her via emails and keeping an eye on her.

She invites Wyatt to dinner at her house and soon all hell breaks loose. Wyatt and Nadine have no choice to keep the flash drive safe while they go on the lam. Wyatt is very attentive to Nadine’s needs as they run and hide, but Nadine digs deep and finds extreme strength that she did not even know existed within. Nadine ends of being an asset to Wyatt, rather than a detriment which she believed herself to be.

As they end of in Oak Creek in Wyoming, they notice some unusual people around the village. Wyatt stays hidden and has Nadine give a verbally coded message to two Linear Tactical members so they are aware what is happening and can help. Of course, even more complications arise that will keep you glued to the end of the book. Will the external drive be worth the trouble Wyatt and Nadine have gone through to deliver it safely? Will Linear Tactical handle Franklin and his crew? Is there a future ahead for Wyatt and Nadine or has the stress brought them to a breaking point? (Please read the three epilogues, as they are also filled with news and action!!)

I only JUST found Janie Crouch and her Linear Tactical series in December 2020. Janie has the amazing ability to write action-packed and suspenseful stories which keep my interest and make me view victims of crime with compassion and empathy. Her writing also entices the reader into feeling as a literal member of the Linear Tactical “family.”
