She never thought trusting him with her body would give him access to her most guarded body part—her heart

Welcome back to Peaceful, where danger spikes to new heights.

Sapphira is a hard-core masochist who craves pain more than sexual release. She doesn’t let men in her life, let alone her home, and now Master B has been there twice. The first time, the intensity of his scene pushed her so far into subspace, released way too many emotions… she didn’t dare let down her guard a second time. Not with anyone.

But that was before everything went to hell, and now, not only is he back in her home… but he might just be in her heart.

Author's note: Standing Fast is the third installment in the Quinn Quartet. Although the book contains a complete romance story with HEA, we recommend reading the books in order—starting with Delving Deep. Standing Fast mentions child abuse and although it’s in the past, this might trigger memories. It also contains disturbing and harmful coping mechanisms to deal with the past. Reader discretion is advised.

Karen Nappa is an Amazon bestselling author of Seasoned BDSM romance with HEA. Her books are available at the popular retailers and include series such as the Club Indigo series and The Quinn Quartet.

Immersed in the D/s lifestyle herself, she writes realistic albeit romantic stories. When not dominated by her cats or her Master (in that order—even if it earns her a spanking!), she loves going places to discover the stories waiting to be written.

She resides in the Netherlands with her dominant husband, two adult-ish sons—and whoever they might drag home with them—and, of course, her two Chausie cats. If she isn’t writing or texting with friends, she’s probably reading, running, or listening to heavy metal.

Karen Nappa proves yet again why i love her stories!
She draws you into her worlds from the first page, making you love the people that live there.
Cheering them on,crying with them, needing their hea almost as much as they do themselves.

Ben and Sapphira both have issues, but Sapphira really needs help.
And Ben is standing fast, being there when she needs him, supporting her, loving her…..if she’ll let him.
Even though he’s a sadist,he is a sensitive one,and he is exactly the person Sapphira needs.
Having built walls around her heart the size of the Chinese Wall after all that she’s been through,he still manages to find a way in.
No matter how much she tries to keep her distance, she can’t help but fall for this wonderful man.
But when he thinks he caused damage he didn’t and is upset about it,it makes her run.
Not being able to open up and tell him what really happened, because she’s ashamed.
Will Ben go after her? And will he reach her in time?
Because her life really is in danger this time…..

This story was heartbreaking, what Sapphira went through was devastating.
But letting Ben in was the best thing she did, because he helped her overcome her past.
He stood fast,he believed in her.
The only thing i need after their story?
Is to find out Mark’s…..
…..and what’s going on in Peaceful!
Because there are still dark forces at work, polluting the environment……

Standing Fast is the third in Karen Nappa's Quinn Quartet, about a group of siblings with interests in BDSM falling in love in a small town.

In the beginning, the book moves way too quickly, with Ben and Sapphira hooking up almost instantly, and in a way that made me have to go back and re-read to understand it. That being said, I really liked the rest of the book. Their relationship, while fraught with problems, ultimately is great for both of them, and the mystery and romance storylines are very smoothly integrated this time. This book is definitely not perfect, but it's a big improvement from the other books in the series.

Finally, we’re getting closer to finding out more about the water, but, as that plot thickens, so does the danger. Ben and Sapphira appear prefect for each other, but Sapphira’s past is in their way. Her (unwarranted) shame is written in a way that it is visceral; the reader wants to be able to hold her as she deals with it, and supporting Ben in his understanding is a given for us. As I said, though, the danger ramps up in this book; Peaceful is increasingly less than its name promises, and I need more! Karen Nappa manages to combine sensitivity, passion, and heart-stopping danger in a way that you aren’t sure which element you’re reading for! While not essential to have read the earlier Quinn Quartet books, having done so will add depth to both this story and the overall danger.

I have loved this series. Karen Nappa has another wonderful novel with Standing Fast. Ben and Sapphira's dynamics are so incredible and once I began reading this book I didn't really put it down. I received this book as an ARC. I am excited to share with folks who are both new and seasoned Karen Nappa readers that this one is a winner. I would strongly suggest that if you have not yet read the first two books that you do so before reading Standing Fast. It makes all the characters and their growing relationships flow much easier and the different dynamics clearer. As always I am eager for the next book that Karen Nappa decides to share with folks.

I've read a few stories by this author now and have really enjoyed all of them. While this is their latest, and number 3 in a quartet, it is very easy to read Ben and Sapphira's story with their HEA. However, their is an overarching storyline which is best enjoyed if you've read the previous books. While we have met both the characters before this is very much their story. I loved that this story included things that, unfortunately, are completely relatable to too many people. This story was handled realistically, and with compassion and empathy. If you're like me and really invest yourself in any story you read, then you will be unable to get through this book without having your emotions all over the place.

This was a very emotionally fraught book for me to read, so definitely take note of the authors’ trigger warnings. None of it is described in detail, but it’s easy to feel the emotions from the words. Ben and Sapphira are a good balance for each other, but with the good comes the bad. Their individual wounds cause them to react in ways that accidentally spark the worst responses in each other, with the potential for a feedback loop of epic proportions. Personally, I loved seeing this pair finally talk through their problems and I deeply appreciate the authors using the intervention of trained metal health professionals to help Ben and Sapphira to unpack all their baggage. Now, the Quinns are deeply involved in one another’s lives, and that’s both a blessing and a curse. They are always there to support family, but they’re a little more invested in each other’s relationships than I’m fully comfortable with; especially the Lifestyle aspects. One of the things I enjoy most is seeing the diversity in this authors’ work, from the backgrounds of the characters to the forms of the Lifestyle they practice. However, there are still questions to be answered about what’s really going on in Peaceful, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the authors through StoryOrigin.

I am really starting to enjoy my time in Peaceful -- the people are welcoming and there always seems to be something fun to do. Of course there is also a bit of drama; where isn't there drama, right?

This time around I very much enjoyed learning what made Ben and Sapphira tick and how they fit together. Sapphira is a masochist who has experienced abuse in her past and uses cutting to make herself feel better or subbing if that's available. Luckily, Ben is a sadist and a dominant who kind of is a big softie underneath but certainly has Sapphira's best interests at heart.

When these two get together, the chemistry is off the charts. Once they realize they can really trust each other and become better versions of themselves together, the story moves toward an HEA. Plus, we get to visit with old friends (from the two previous books) and those supporting characters who haven't had their stories told yet.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book via StoryOrigin and enjoyed the ride. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Sapphira Myers meets Ben Quinn at Thamani, an exclusive BDSM club in Columbus, OH. She runs out after their first scene, leaving him to wonder what happened. When his sister's engagement party comes up, Sapphira is there as her best friend and college roommate. As Ben and Sapphira reconnect, both of them will need to work through their issues. Meanwhile, the mystery of who in Peaceful is threatening the Quinns as they try and get to the bottom of where the water pollution is coming from continues. People are getting sick, and Ross, Delilah, Maddy and Sapphira are getting closer to finding the cause.
Sapphira is working to overcome her past abuse, and Ben has his own demons. They are both relatable characters, along with the rest of the Quinn family. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but the over-arching mystery runs through the series, making it better read in order. Ben and Sapphira get an HEA. It is a solid read I definitely recommend.

I deeply appreciate how real this author’s characters feel, with the reality of the challenges of building a relationship and connecting with someone who brings their own baggage to a relationship that is different to the other person’s baggage and how that needs to be negotiated.

Ben and Sapphira have some very deep emotional, historical trauma that needs to be addressed before a long term relationship will be successful. I appreciate that they BOTH acknowledge that and, by the end of the story, get the help they need.

I also appreciated the interactions with other characters, who have been leads in others in the series, as well as the embedded continuation of the overarching plot line, and the fact that there is a trigger warning in the blurb (it’s accurate).

The story is dual POV, well written and edited, and I enjoyed it. I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary review.

This book will definitely take you on an emotional roller coaster, it’s has tons of detailed pain scenes with and without sex. The interactions between the two main characters are extremely emotional. You just want to reach out and tell her she can have and deserves happiness with Master B. Sapphira is a masochist and she also deals with her pain and emotions by doing harm to herself, Master B comes along and sets her world upside down, in a good way! He understands her and doesn’t judge her for what she feels or likes, if you have any problems with heavy BDSM scenes, this is not the book for you to read. I would read this again, beautifully written!

Standing Fast is the third book of the Quinn Quartet series. Though I 'started' reading the series with this book, I had no trouble following, there is enough background information. And I enjoyed reading the book very much.

Sapphira had some bad experiences in her past and tends to cutting herself. She also finds relief when playing in a BDSM club where she meets Ben. Unfortunately, she runs away after their scene but they meet again at a party. As Ben won't let her escape a second time, Sapphira slowly learns that there is a man she can trust unconditionally and that she also gets what she needs.

Let me first state that there are some triggers for abuse and self abuse.

Sapphira is a submissive masochist. On her first night as a trained sub, she meets Master B and plays with him. When Ben inadvertently calls her slut, Sapphira is thrown into a bad memory of her step father. She quickly ends the scene and leaves. They meet again and start dating. Ben helps her get past her traumas and they have their HEA.

I enjoyed the story as I love to read anything by Karen Nappa. She tells a thorough story and doesn't rush at the end.

I received an advanced copy and this is my honest review.

Omg I was hooked!
This book was amazing and I just couldn’t put it down.
While there is some content that could be a little triggering to some (warning), it was a crucial part of making this story work.
Ben and Sapphira are a beautiful couple and with their own kinks. While the mystery of the mining and poisoned water continues throughout this book.
I can’t wait to read the final book in the quartet when it is released.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my voluntary and honest opinion.

Standing Fast is the best of the three in the series as the characters and story are more complex. Ben and Sapphira are both dealing with past childhood issues in their own way. They are perfect together and the story flows easily from beginning to end. Sapphira's story is especially emotional and heartbreaking.

The Quinn family is a fantastic mixture of personalities and I hope Mark gets his own book soon.

Let me start by stating this rebranding is brilliant. The new covers are absolutely drool-worthy and I think the titles are more fitting for the content of the books because there's less focus on the suspense and more on the relationships.
As with the other books, there are two sides to Small Town Sadist, one is the ongoing mystery of the illnesses and the mines (if you haven’t read books 1 and 2 you should start with those), and the other is a love story between Quinn sibling Ben and water analyst/Madeline’s best friend/masochist Sapphira.
Since we have to wait for the conclusion of the mystery (and the suspense part is less important than the relationships developing in all the books), my focus here is the romantic part. And what a match this pair is!

perfect match

As the title suggests, this is an M/s relationship.
While sadists tend to make me a little nervous 😅, I also know they are usually sweet, careful, and polite in vanilla function. Ben Quinn is a bit different, he’s stoic and quiet, but also protective and strong and I liked him as much as I did Ross and Lou in the previous books.
Sapphira has emotional scars but she’s also a strong and sassy heroine. I don’t like the way she dealt with her problems but it didn’t prevent me from loving her.

coping

It’s so emotional what they are going through, I cried for Sapphira and Ben in this book —you must be aware of the trigger warning— and I cheered for their HEA.

The 3rd book in the series continues the suspense as Sapphira, Maddy's best friend, and Ben Quinn - or Master B - have to fight for their Happy End amidst the investigation into contaminated water and soil. But that is not all: Sapphira must fight the demons of her past which come back to haunt her and end up nearly costing her life ...
Like the other books in the series, this one highlights another aspect of the BDSM spectrum: Ben is a sadist while Sapphire is a masochist. But unlike the others, this book also delves deep into serious psychological issues - and possible connection - between child abuse and self-harm. Very realistic details, which might be a trigger for some people. For me, this added another dimension to the story, making it more than just a mystery or romance.

This installment of the Quinn Quartet focuses on Ben, one part of the twin brothers that Baby Sister Maddy, finds so over-protective. Ben, as it turns out, is a sadist who feels that a close relationship will only end in heart-break. His heart, that is. When Ben finds a cute masochist to play with, he starts to change his mind. When he discovers that this cute woman is also his sister's best friend, he decides that maybe it will be worth the risk. I really enjoyed that the insecure one in this relationship is the man. As in real life, loss of a parent can also affect the way men see women. The on-going mystery of who or what is causing the locals to fall ill is coming to a head as well. I am looking forward to seeing the last brother, Mark, meet his own version of Happily Married....and will someone PLEASE check out those closed mines...

Another great episode to the Quinn Quartet Saga and I love the dynamic chemistry between Ben (a master sadist) who has taken an interest in Maddie best friend Sapphira (a masochist sub) who he met in a BDSM club in Columbus…but please take note this book does have triggers with past child abuse and self harm which I found was well written as you felt the pain and anxieties of the characters..
But like the other books in the series not all is quiet in Peaceful as it should be and with the mystery starting to unravel and one more book to come I know I can’t wait to read more.

This time, Ben finds his happiness with Sapphira and the plot around the issues with the groundwater grows murkier. The emotional and psychological aspects of Ben and Sapphira intense relationship are the focus of this story, with plenty of both steamy and tense scenes. The tease at the end about the last Quinn (Mark) and his proclivities were tantalizing, plus the answers about what’s going on at the mines, makes me excited for the next and last book in this set.
