Daphne Burnett was on track to reach her a full partnership at a top-tier law firm. She worked hard, and she played harder. She didn’t have the time or patience for relationships, so she had It was simple, and it worked. Play and go.
Conor Ryan was ready to take over the family business, but only one thing stood in his way. His father wouldn't give up control until Conor married. He was over forty, after all, and it was time to settle down. Conor had one the smart, sexy attorney who had been his booty call buddy. He couldn’t imagine spending a year with anyone else.
It was the perfect solution. Neither of them believed in romance or long term commitment. They would stay married for a year, then go their separate ways.
Now all Conor had to do was convince Daphne to marry him.
Conor and Daphne, both worked hard, and loved to play the field with no commitments. But, when they met, there was an instant connection that was electric. We normally frown on marriages of convenience, but you could tell right away, that these two were fooling themselves with a contract. The feelings were already brewing, and could tell that love was on the way. I loved the way Conor was not the typical "rich boy" type. He really paid attention to Daphne, listened to her wants and needs and honestly wanted to make her happy. Daphne was jaded from her past experience, but couldn't deny the love that had grown for Conor. Enjoyable quick read. 👍👍👍
I really enjoyed Daphne and Connor’s story. They meet at a wedding and had an instant connection. She wanted a no strings attached relationship with him. When she started to feel something for Connor she backed off. Conner reaches out to her with a marriage proposition and they come to an agreement of one year. I was surprised the parents were not mentioned again after the marriage became permanent, Since they did not believe it was real. I would have like to know what happened with her best friend Mo and Patrick his brother. Short story but a good one. Love the book..
But why was the heroine so masculine and unemotional ? Black women should be portrayed as both resilient (prefer this instead of strong since strong is also a very masculine adjective) and vulnerable. She came off as way to manly and it threw me off. I did enjoy the ending though. Also, I'll need heroines to accept gifts from heroes without thinking the world will end if they simply say "thank you" instead of responding with over the top rudeness and accusations.
Conor and Daphne grow on the reader, as well as on each other. Older and more definitive about their preferences and red flags, they just get on with it, rather than fling excessive emotions around. It’s a refreshing change from the “barely legal instalove” story genre, but when it comes to leaving dangling plot threads, like their relationships with the parents, the pace and scope of the plot fall a little short of connecting what are likely important threads for both main characters’ motivations.
I totally enjoyed this short but complete novel by Ms. Grey. Conor and Daphne meet at a wedding and are seated at the same table. They are both driven, busy people not looking for love. They do embark on a friends with benefits situation. When Daphne starts to feel a little more she shuts their agreement down. In need of a good attorney and a WIFE, Conor reaches out months later. Will they be able to stick to their business arrangement?
Daphne and Conor are so much alike. Both highly successful and focused on career with little time for commitment. After meeting at a wedding they both agree to see each other with no strings. Six months after their tryst ends, Conor seeks Daphne’s help with a personal dilemma…
I love the immediate attraction and playful banter between them and a mutual respect that makes this read so enjoyable.
A quick, fun novella I enjoyed over a glass of sweet red.
Daphne thought she could not it and quit it until her latest boy toy propose new marriage for business arrangement . She works hard at her firm but is not reward how she should be. Her marriage of convienice turned into love and that love morphed into better business opportunity.
I was delighted and relieved that this was not just the usual rich guy makes a marriage proposition to get his inheritance story. I felt as though I had a personal relationship to the main characters. They were likeable, relatable and real. A nice, easy, drama free read.
I thought this wss a cute story. I loved how Conor and Daphne's relationship developed. I liked how they communicated a d respected each other. They built a solid friendship which turned into a loving marriage. Just wished it was like her because I would have loved to read more about their relationship.
Loved reading about Conor and Daphne's coming together. There's was a very unique interesting story, this was a good read no drama and I loved the characters. I would absolutely recommend you reading this book. I cannot wait to read about Patrick and Mo's story. Thanks Avery this is my first read by this author please keep up the good work. 🙏👍
Short & Sweet! From the very beginning, when they meet at a wedding, Conor demonstrated how attracted he was to Daphne. He admired her intelligence, as a successful attorney, her beauty, as well as her "no nonsense" attitude. When Conor needs Daphne to save his company, he goes the extra mile to show her how important she is to him. Awesome story!
Relatable characters who are like minded and equally matched, no stupidity and excellent conflict resolution. Likeable H and h with just enough angst to root for their HEA..... Without cheating. Even though its a fake marriage romance cliche, it really didn't come across that way. It's a win.
Nothing like going up the love ladder one level at a time. These characters truly know how to negotiate through a relationship. I enjoyed reading about each level they advanced through. It kept me ribbitted on each level and I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word.
Daphne and Conor are both independent strong and anti-relationship. However, this story proves that the rich, intelligent and strong-willed characters are vulnerable and fall in love. Falling in love without consciousness is the truest form of commitment and endurance for a lasting and happy hereafter.
This is a great story, about taking chances, keeping your word and being treated as an equal. It was a great pace, it didn't drag on ,nor did it rush the plot. The supporting characters were just as dynamic as the main characters. You will fall in love with these characters and root for them the whole way through.
Best book ever! I loved Daphne and Conor. What started as a marriage of convenience ended with a true forever marriage, Daphne’s own law firm and a baby on the way.
I was pulled in from the conversation or witty exchange when the characters first meet. Loved that she is an alpha female. Falling in love isn't just for 20's and 30's; it can come at any age. Kudos for the series.
This was a silly book. No only was it silly, it was like a bad film that kept jumping from one scene to the other and neither one was very good. Okay, how old is she? Pregnant? Okay. Novella? More like discombobulated mess.
It was good read. Both did the bitchdorm meet and respected each other’s boundaries to a point of marriage. Can’t wait to read about Monique and Greg should they become an item.
I don't know if Connor was being wily or frank. But I feel like he used the marriage requirement to get Daphne to love him. If so, it is beautiful to see manipulation used for good.
Loved this novella Although it was a short story the characters were relateable and the storyline was real life The author made you enjoy them and the supporting characters Great job
Okay there are some tools that the editor missed but once you get into the story you can overlook them. Dee was a strong black woman. Written well and the author did not weaken when she fell in love. The build up of them as a couple was a good one.
This was such a pleasant read. This story really just pulled me in. I must admit that I caught myself smiling so many times. An those sex scenes were burning the books pages up. Looking forward to next book in series.
I loved the fact that it was a grown relationship and that Connor+Daphne talked it through. I loved the fact that he paid attention to her, what she said and needed.
This was a good mature read. First read by this author. I was not disappointed. Liked Connor and Daphne. It seemed real. Wish there was a scene where she quit her job. I will definitely read more of this author's work.
