Taamo san did it again!! The art was wonderfull, as well as the story. I really liked the girl, who was cute and funny. I also like her love interest, he seems promising. However, at least for me, the story moves kind of fast and I was hoping for at least five volumes of this.
EXCUSE ME? I was expecting a typical shoujo but bruuuuhh it's GOOD 💕 probably because I love the FL character? She's so honest with her feelings and HER GUTS 👌✨ cannot relate but it's so refreshing to look at.
The progress of their relationship is really smooth tho 😳
Ok so, I reread this series again after almost 2 years and honestly, I'm quite surprised at how indifferent I was with this when I read it before. Upon reading it now, it's actually a pretty good start. Nishiki is strong-willed and isn't like some of those shojo leads who are dumb or annoying. She actually knows what she wants and what she needs to do which is laudable actually! As for Atsumori, he's a bit tsun but you can also see how he cares for Nishiki. I actually like this start upon reading it now and am kinda looking forward to re/reading the rest again. :)
OLD REVIEW:
I'm reading this because I wanna take a break from Taiyou no Ie for a while and this series was written by the same mangaka so I decided to give this a try.
NGL this series is so-so, it's not bad but it's not that good either. I'm probably going to give the next a volume a try but if it's still so-so, I might not continue with this series.
She's from a small town in the middle of nowhere. When he visits as a guest of her grandfather, she coaxes for stories of Tokyo & talks of her dream to go there. He dares her to elope with him. Then challenges her to get into a good high school in Tokyo. She chooses his. But when she finally finds him again, he (initially) feigns ignorance. But maybe (just maybe) he'll take responsibility and make her his bride-to-be.
I like their dynamic. Atsumori has that whole Mr. Darcy thing going for him. Snappish and standoffish at first blush, but capable of real kindness, usually when no one's looking. And Nishiki might have a crush, but she also has a lot of work to do because this school's academic rigor outstrips her small town school's. Studying gives them some common ground, a starting point. I'll continue the series to see where it leads them.
I really enjoyed the introduction to our two leads in this book! Nishiki is so forthright and hilarious in her optimism, and and Ataomari is… not super lovable in this first volume (I’m reviewing after reading Vol 3, and he gets better lol).
I love how studious Nishiki is and how loyal she is to her friend Kano. There’s nothing like a good female friendship! Nishiki is definitely my favorite character so far, and I know I’ll be cheering her on this whole series.
I'm conflicted because Atsumori-kun is definitely not like any other main male leads that Taamo-sensei wrote before and I kinda miss those sweet, simple and thoughtful guys. But I'm truly intrigued of how things are going to turn out so I'll continue reading until the end or until I get sick of it 🙈
Atsumori-kun's Bride-to-Be More shojo which I love but this is the weakest of Taamo's work for me. I'd suggest House of The Sun (3 stars) or the newer I'm in Love and It's The End Of The World (4 stars). A country girl wants to escape her hometown and have her own life in the city and not be married off and have her life dictated to her. A chance meeting with a handsome city boy and a pact that they make helps push her to commit to leaving home for Tokyo to go to school there and work to have better and more. I was with this volume until the second half---it fell flat for me and any blossoming agency the main character had evaporated. Very disappointing. I understand the flaws in characters--that a female lead character is working to figure out who she is with having a personality and navigating the world as a teenager but I just couldn't get into this one.
I have some issues with Taamo’s works. The heroines always seem to fall hard and fast for very little reason. This time, I just feel like the heroine is trying to escape a life she doesn’t want by any means necessary. And she falls in love with the guy immediately almost as soon as she meets him? Come on, he was just barely nice to you! I mean, the art is cute, but the story is nonsense, to be honest. I’m a little reminded of Itazura na Kiss, so readers who enjoyed that may find some familiarity here.
I love Taamo’s artwork, and her characters are always so adorably awkward yet straightforward. So far the story is messy, with Atsumori blowing hot and cold and Nishiki declaring her love out of nowhere. Her dad seems like a PITA living in a past century, and I wish she’d stand up to him more. He can’t actually force her to marry, he can just pressure her. I understand that seems like a big thing to a teenager. But if her mom and grandfather are willing to support her, that’s not even a huge threat.
I enjoyed this sooo much. So much of this is from the fun dynamic of Atsumori and Nishiki. The at-times scrappy nature of Nishiki and Atsumori can be really enjoyable. Hopefully as the series continues that portion of their dynamic is kept! I like the concept of two people unhappy in their situations due to having parts of their lives and futures already planned ahead. You can tell in the first chapter it lead to a fun dynamic with Atsumori seemingly both happy for and of Nishiki’s resolve. Atsumori is a fun male lead. He is sort of like only the tsun part of a tsundere. I really enjoy he seems uninterested in love and as such is unimpressed and laughs at Nishiki's declaration. I also like that it’s not love at first sight. It seems to more of interest on Atsumori’s side due to Nishiki also being constrained with a pre-chosen future but it’s not love and having shared sympathy turned into genuine care for her. Taamo's art is alright. Taamo's art often feels like one of two kinds. You have her sketchy style and then you have her soft and glow-light-heavy style. I enjoy when she uses scratchy dark screentones and fluffy balls of light make certain emotional scenes have an aesthetic of a moody galaxy print. Her art is not my favorite but it's clearly a chosen style and I appreciate it. I find it really suits her drawing of Atsumori as she draws his "princeliness" very well with sharp eyes and like he's sort of looking through someone. She also draws this really cool shot where he glares down while staring which really just exudes so much haughtiness and attitude and it's great. Regarding the end with Hopefully it doesn't rush the romance and we get to see a nice stretch of Atsumori and Nishiki commiserating in their shared pre-planned fates with some friction between them (although Atsumori seems to not mind his parent's expectations as much as Nishiki which makes sense since one is actually a forced marriage) and Atsumori still having his moments of being slightly diminutive to Nishiki in such a princely heir way. It looks like Taamo is creating space for a love triangle also with Nishiki admitting having past feelings for her forced partner which I think could lead to some cool space of her relationship with her friend Kano and some dissonance with dealing with her new love for Atsumori and her hushed away initial feelings for her fiance.
My first time reading Taamo works and she has a nag for creating cute characters. While I did enjoy this read towards end more, at beginning it’s hard to take it seriously. Usually I’m all for stupidness in shoujo but this title took a bit for me to feel any latch on. Nishiki main female she is adorable from her love of studying and dedication, but Atsumori main male took complete presence fast to break away from her arranged marriage to her fathers deceased friend son.
Atsumori reminds me a lot like Naru from ghost hunt but on tamer level, naru was way more cynical. Atsumori isn’t totally unlikable which is a plus because there were a few glimpses of a sensitive side. You can call nishiki a fool for following atsumori all the way Tokyo but that determination of hers becomes more, her feelings growing for Atsumori. The pace is pretty quick In this one but it suited to the plot as Nishiki was only in junior high deciding to go to Tokyo to follow Atsumori. The set up felt better him being third year and her first year in high school.
I didn’t crazy love this like majority of shoujo I’ve read but it was enjoyable and makes me curious enough to continue this interesting plot dynamic specially in nishiki case.
Well this is interesting. I just love school-life rom-coms!
Nishiki is a good girl, mostly, but a wee bit obsessive. All that trouble to run off to Tokyo from a small, isolated Northern town to pursue a guy who likely will not marry her? Yet Atsumori is being really nice. At first he tried to pretend that he didn't remember her, but then he slipped up and called her by an old nickname. Now, he's going out of his way to help her, in school, and to help her learn how to get around Tokyo. After the two are caught in a downpour, he's brought her to his home, a high-rise condo! Oh did I mention that Atsumori's family is loaded? He lets her bathe and gives her clothes of his own to wear. Then, while sharing a tender moment in his room, the two are surprised by Atsumori's often-away Mother walking in on them! Needless to say, she's shocked! But nowhere NEAR as shocked as by what Atsumori tells her about Nishiki! Wow. What a way to end the volume. I am enjoying this, so I'll be picking up consecutive volumes. Give this one a read. The art is good, the story decent (but a bit of a trope), and the characters are engaging.
Rating: 4.5 stars I’m really enjoying the story so far and can’t wait to see where it goes!
I really like Nishiki so far, she works hard and also cares a lot for her friend that she was willing to go to Tokyo for her sake. Atsumori is kind of tsundere but also I think he helps out Nishiki a lot. I do like Nishiki more so far. It’s nice to see Nishiki being so honest and open about her feelings and how Atsumori gets embarrassed from it.
The story did move pretty fast and it’s not realistic but that doesn’t really matter. They’re both still so young… It is weird how Nishiki says she went to Tokyo because she loves Atsumori when they barely spoke the last time they met…
I’m still loving the story though and all the cute moments! I wonder how Nishiki’s gonna get out of her marriage and how the story will progress!

The pacing feels a little odd. I don’t know how I feel about it. I’m a little confused too. So she did like the fiancé at one time but forced herself to get over him? And now is into this new guy which is fine but she made it sound like going to Tokyo and finding someone she liked was for her to take control of her future but then plans her whole future around this guy so she is essentially doing what she didn’t want to do?? One more volume then I will know.
Very cute style and a protagonist that goes after what she wants and is very honest about it. She and the main love interest have a very fun back and forth too. I'd love to see that adapted into a live action show or movie, it feels very organic. Glad I picked this up :)
Atsumori strikes me as a bit of a tsundere character (nothing against that but just saying in case you aren’t into it) and let’s be real Nishiki’s not really in love yet, she just wants out of her situation. But it’s cute enough to see where it goes. I like the art better than the previous series I read by this author (House of Sun).
This was doing nothing for me. Taamo's art style is super cute, but I wasn't into the personality of the male lead, and I don't find the female lead particularly compelling. The setting also isn't super interesting either, just feels like I've read it before but done in a more interesting way.
This manga tells the story of a girl who looks for a Tokyo boy to fail her fiancé. The story still has a school theme. When I read it, I felt a little less relatable. Maybe it feels more interesting if high school kids read it. Even so, Atsumori's interaction with Nisiki makes the story in this manga more fun to follow.
Cute story so far it just catches my attention wondering what's going to happen next. I love how the characters expressions show perfectly and you just feel for them.
There are so many words swimming and I feel like it's going here and there. I mean, some panels doesn't make sense at all. It's like jumping or skipping some. I don't know if that makes sense but I hope it does. Lol
Atsumori-kun gives me Kurosaki-kun from Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai. Definitely will not be my favourite work from Taamo-sensei, but still a enjoyable manga.
Ahaha I kind of love how events bear no relation to anything that would ever be feasible in real life without going for, say, the Hana yori Dango vibe.
