Kai

I’ve seen danger, witnessed death, and watched as my best friends fought to overcome their own fears for the women they love. Always putting the job first.
Oaklynn was never part of my plan.
She’s the light to my darkness.
I tried my hardest to protect her from this life, to keep her thoughts about me pure.
One summer was all it took to destroy us.

Now as fall moves in, our lives are moving in different directions. My own selfish need to keep the two halves of me separate has clashed. The fallout may be more than I can handle.

Rogue is closing in on the ones who threaten all we hold dear.
This is my only chance, I just hope Oaklynn can forgive me when it’s all over.

Oaklynn

I didn’t think I’d fall in love. The concept almost seemed too cliche for me. Until I met Kai.
The mysterious guy who’s voice I knew before I ever saw his face.
Butterflies and glitter.
That is what having him in my life became. A complete fairytale.
One summer was all it took to destroy us.

My best friend is in danger and the people she has been hiding with are being hunted.
Throw in a serial killer and things just get messier.
I could have handled it, if I’d known the truth.
Fall is the season of change and new beginnings. Maybe that means it’s time for us to move on.
How can I ever forgive, when I don’t even know what the truth is?

This book conflicted me. I had no idea that this was the last one in the series. To me there was still so many things left unanswered, the book itself felt rushed at times whereas I would of loved more in depth details especially with it being the final one and the bar that the other books set.
I don't know, maybe it's just me?
Even though the details felt glossed over, I still mostly enjoyed it and did love some of twists.
Looking forward to seeing what the author comes up with next.

#Nygirl by A.M. Brooks is the 4th book in the Midwest Boys series and is the last in this incredible series.
I first fell in love with A.M. Brooks and the Midwest boys when I won the first one in a giveaway, I have been hooked ever since.

#NYGirl is Kia and Oaklynn's story but to see what Rogue has been dealing with, the past coming back to haunt the group, the truth's coming alive and seeing the plans that the boys have for the future is incredible! It is the perfect ending to a perfect series.

4*
Kai was protecting Rogue and unfortunately his decisions to withhold information could have cost him his relationship with Oaklynn.
Oaklynn is upset to realise that things aren't as she believed and the hurt runs deep.
He's determined to fix it but she's running scared.
Another great addition to the series and I'm looking forward to reading more from the characters.

My humble opinion, it’s that me to write a review for Ashton again. I have been holding out on reading this book far longer than I should have. I just didn’t want it to end. I’ve lived in this world for the last few years and hate to say goodbye to the intense love, support, and chaos that rains down on The Rogue organization and everyone that means something to them.

Kai and Oaklynn, although not my favorite couple (no one beats Ciaran and Saylor)are so cute together. There is a time jump in this book but that what’s best for our young hearts. Fighting and finding the people out to destroy this great community is on the forefront of this story so the relationship aspects are kinda left the the way side. But they for sure get their moments. I’m impressed by the action and skill that Ashton wrote into this book. Her storylines are on point. Her characters no matter the part they play tug your heartstrings.
There is a particular moment in this book, a group hug…..I cried so hard and I had a thought, she’s about to break me. Not going to get and answer to that.
There were other times too, Hail Mary!

Ashton I’ve read every book you’ve published so far and I’ll tell you = auto buy for life! Thanks for the break from the real world.

I love this series with all of my heart! #NYGirl was such a phenomenal book that I didn’t want it to stop or to put it down! AM Brooks provides such detail in this book that it’s like a movie playing out in your head.

#NYGirl is action packed with so much suspense. You are kept on your toes throughout the entire book. I enjoyed the romance aspect in this book and to see Oaklynn and Kai progress with all the secrets and just over all craziness is really something. Along with seeing Oaklynn and Kai try to overcome their struggles in the relationship department, you also the the adventure of seeing how the past can come back to haunt you for Rouge.

This series was such a great series to read that I’m definitely gonna share with others. These characters are some of my favorites and to see it come to a close is bittersweet. I love the journey AM Brooks takes us on with all of the books but I’m definitely sad to see it come to a close. I fully thin everyone should read #NYGirl or if they haven’t started the series yet, definitely go do so! Such a phenomenal series!

Wow, I read this book in two sittings as I didn't want to put it down. This is the fourth book in the series of the Midwest Boys and its full of action right from the beginning. Brooklyn thought she knew Kai until everything came home to roost on Rogues doorstep. Everyone was keeping secrets from Brooklyn even her best friend Saylor, can she forgive the two most important people in her life? This series was not only interesting and action packed from the first book, but showed the growth in the characters and how they always pulled together to make the lives of others better. Great series Ashton, thank you for the great read.

The fourth and final book of The Midwest Series and we get Kai & Oaklynns story!...

They fell out in the previous book when it came to light that Oaklynn was the only one oblivious to Rogue - like completely had no idea about any of it, yet everyone else did. Needless to say, she felt betrayed, that they didn't trust her and so alone....without a doubt I sympathise, but I also understand why and eventually she will too!

It's all go in The Rogue World, we know they're under threat and that if it goes wrong, no-one will survive. It's full of action, seediness, twists, love, heartache, Sheesh it has it all!!

I adore Kai, he's such a good guy and we get more of an insight to his childhood. We get more of an insight to everyone's life which helps you understand why Rogue is so important.

Loved it. An excellent read ⭐⭐⭐⭐

*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review.

This is the 4th and final book in the Midwest Boy series. This has been a great series and book 4 wrapped it up nicely.

This is Kai and Oaklynn’s story but all the characters from the other books are also present .

Oaklynn is hurt and struggling with what she has found out and Kai is trying to help her understand….without avail. After several years and distance they are able to come to an understanding and focus on a new beginning.

It is action packed from the beginning and you will not want to put the book down until you finish. I would recommend reading the series in order to understand the characters and background of the overall story.

I requested an arc and leaving my honest review.

I really felt for Oaklynn in the last book so I have to say Kai wasn’t high on my list of liked people!
Here we find him trying to make amends while at the same time trying, with the team, to get to the bottom of the problems within Rogue…..
I enjoyed this and it was great to get an idea of where all the Midwest boys futures lay. Definitely one to read if you have been following this exciting series.

I’m so sad that this was the final book in this series! I’ve been obsessed with this series since the first book I love the Midwest boys and their stories. Although this was the last book and I’m overall satisfied with how it ended there is still so many questions I need answers to. It’s bittersweet I hope it’s not the last we see of Rogue but I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us next !

Copy received from the Next Step PR. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

Such a great ending to a perfect series. Oaklynn and Kian are a wonderful copy who we see grow together. Though not my favourite couple of the series, they definitely are a power duo on their own.

If I pictured an ending for this series, this is it. Well thought out stories for both the plot and the characters, and a well-rounded series plot. The past comes back and affects the future and our Rogue boys had to deal with that.

Very twisty read, but I’m so sad to see this series end!

The Midwest Boys series is just getting better and better. After #MNGirl and My #MNGirl, I can’t believe I missed Silas story in #SummerGirl. But I’m very happy to read on about Saylor’s best friend Oaklynn, who has fallen in love with Kai during the secret conversations in #MNGirl. And Kai also fell for the wonderful girl, who was supporting her best friend, although she didn’t know the very ugly truth about Saylor and the Rogues.

But know, Oaklynn knows that all has been based on lies. So, she goes her separate ways and moves on with her life. However, her heart still has a gaping whole. Fast forward four years, where Oaklynn sometimes still feels watched. And only when her mother brings her back to Rogues headquarters, she has to face Kai after all those years. Rogue is on the verge of the take-over by Ciaran, Silas and Kai. After years of preparation, the boys are ready to manage Rogue’s missions, while Jason and Matt take a backseat. But then, there is a traitor in their midst and safe houses are being targeted. Yet another race against time to find the enemy and keep everyone safe. Meanwhile, Kai needs to make Oaklynn understand why he couldn’t reveal his identity all those years ago. And that he still has feelings for her. Are they starcrossed lovers, or will they be able to overcome the past?

A.M. Brooks has done it again! A gripping story with a lot of unexpected twists and turns! Loved it. Five out ot five stars from me and a special thank you to The Next Step PR for providing the arc.

This is the 4th book in this amazing series and is Kai and Oaklynn’s journey. Oaklynn is the light to Kai’s darkness, and with him protecting Rogue and withholding information from her, this cost him their relationship. The past comes back to haunt the group, which kept me on tenterhooks throughout. Will Kai be able to salvage his relationship with Oaklynn, or is it too late? This is a well written story which is action packed, and with danger suspense, twists, secrets, conflict, emotions, truths, and love, which leads to a riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Another fabulous romance suspense with the yummy Rogue folks. After the end of the last book it didn’t look like Kai would get his girl. Torn apart by secrets, Oaklynn is beyond sad that those closest to her kept her in the dark. Rogue is fighting enemies on all fronts so Kai has to put his love life on the back burner. Not forgotten though. It’s intense action and danger when Rogue goes on the offensive to deal with their enemies. Rogue’s work to save people from evil is worth fighting for and defending at all cost. There’s not as much romance in this story as the previous ones but a lot of Kai and Oak’s romance played out in previous stories but we do get a few emotional encounters and sexy times. We get to see all my favorites with the wonderful Rogue family and friends. There’s a changing of the guard as Rogue moves into the future. I’m sad this fantastic series is over. I feel like there are more stories to tell. Mila, Bentley and the surprising Reed are left up in the air. Maybe we’ll get a future book with the crew settled into their grown up lives with new additions for the future of Rogue. A good ending to this outstanding must read series!

My experience with this author started with this series!

It's hard to think this is the end; or is it!!! Can we believe that!?!

These Midwest Boys have held my interest!

This story was fast-paced. Edge of your seat suspense! Emotional!

The main characters may or may not get an HEA!!! I rooted for them! Rooted for them Hard!

What's great? We get to go back and enjoy the series from the beginning!

I'll wait a while, hoping Ms. Brooks' muse says this is not Done!!!

I'm kind of sad that this series is ending, as I have really enjoyed the concept and so many of the characters' stories. The Midwest Boys has such a unique, creative premise that has amazed me with each book. In some ways, I think it reads like a serial which gives it so much possibility. Although this series has come to an end now, I am hoping there is more to come in this world as a lot was left unexplored.

I would have loved a more final book perhaps with multiple POVs (Matt, Erika, Jason, Kelly, Saylor, Ciaran, Calvin, Mila, Reed, Kai, Oaklynn, Ollie, Nash, Silas, Lux--you name it. They all intrigue me.).

Unfortunately, as cute as Kai and Oaklynn were, I wasn't feeling their romance as much as I would have liked. I couldn't get into and it and mostly was looking for tidbits of my favorite couples (Jason and Kelly & Ciaran and Saylor). I would say this book focuses mainly on Rogue and action, rather than romance. But it's still a good story.

The way things turned out for all my couples made me so happy. This series is definitely one I recommend, despite feeling a little underwhelmed by this one.

I received an advance copy for review. This is my honest opinion.

#NYGirl answers all the questions that remained in the air at the end of #Summergirl (Book 3), and there are no loose ends. Still, I think it’s not enough for this nice couple. You feel the plot a bit rushed. Scripture is as good as in Ms. Brooks’ previous books, but the plot leaves you wanting more. Also, the story of Kai and Oaklynn seems incomplete. Yes, they had their happy ending. However, the trip through their emotions needed more than half a book (or that is how it is perceived) that it was too short compared to its predecessors (in page amount, at least). Interestingly, the structure of the book seemed novel and intelligent at the same time.

An atypical and ingenious end for a YA series which I loved from the beginning. Highly recommended.

Last book in the series and we finally get Kai and Oaklynn's story. You have to have read the first 3 books in the series before reading this one. These are definitely not stand alone books. Rogue is under attack, there is still the serial killer within the ranks and the Establishment needs to be taken down. Throw in Oaklynn being devastated that everyone has been lying to her and the romance that started with her Kai may not make it. This was a great way to wrap up the series!

The final book in the series and while it was good it was sadly very short and a bit rushed!! Oaklynn & Kai were a nice couple but we didn’t really get a big glimse into them as they sorted through their issues. This book picks up exactly where Silas’ left off and was full speed ahead. But mostly about the Rogue battles and threat takedown rather than Oaklynn and Kai. The second half was a time jump of 4 years where neither was happy and they were still in love with each other so got back together. A good read but a bit of something missing for sure.

Loved loved this. I'm sad that this is the final book in this series, but I'm hoping that it's not going to be the last of Rogue. When I started reading I couldn't put it down. It definitely is bittersweet knowing that this is the last book in the series. I really enjoy Kai and Oaklynn and enjoyed their story. There were quite a few surprises in this story and one at the end I most definitely didn't expect. A lot of drama and suspense and everyone had a great hea. I will really miss this series it has been a great one.

Wow what an ending to the Midwest Boys series! Kai and Oaklynn’s story was filled with suspense, angst, drama, and mild steam. My heart ached for them trying to move passed their feelings of the Rogue truths revealed in #SummerGirl. Kai definitely did not let her go without a fight. I was so happy to see the Rogue family get their HEA. That revelation at the end was genius!

The conclusion of this amazing fast-paced series!!! I cant tell you how obsessed I am with this series. I loved this series. It's story, It's characters, The plot, The relationships!! Its fantastic and whether i was working or busy doing other things, These characters and their circumstances were a constant in my mind!!
This Author is new to me and this is my first series from her. I have to say, I can't wait to read her other books.

I have to give a shout out to Nash! go bro!! I'm proud of what you're doing. Hopefully your crazy obsession side will slowly dissipate or you find someone who you can focus it on.

Unfortunately, I had to lower the stars in this book. All these books were basically 5 stars for me but it was lacking in 2 certain things which I will explain. The previous books were able to get away with it but not this one as it is the final official book.

SPOILERS:

I understand that there are 3 different couples in this series and that they each get books. However, I felt the main couple being Kai and Oaklynn was not a good choice to have. Don't get me wrong! I love them but in all honesty, they are not main couple material in terms of the story's plot and connection. Their entire story couldve definitely been told through the other characters instead of actually making a book about them.

Nothing significant was going on between them nor was it truly connected the the overlying plot of the story. They continued to feel like side characters, even in this book. And It was more like a contemporary romance then what this book actually is. They have no relations from the prequel to all the interconnecting stories that was going on, therefore reading this at times felt so awkward and jarring. It felt disconnected as if we moved to another type of book with another type of romance genre. Its why I got bored towards the end, It just wasnt interesting compared to the others. I'm desperate from the adults POV. Because they are still pretty much the main characters just as much as their kids. I loved that and it works more than this book. where everyone has some sort of peace now, we have to be told instead of shown by this couple about the other couples and the aftermath of the explosion.

Their pov didnt fit. Maybe if we got more of their past story like Kai being in her prom. I think we needed more moments from them. The pov of Sayler and her partner as well as Silas make sense. It shouldn't have ended with their POV as it all started with the parents or even Say and Cieran. I would've loved to see the family dynamic now and how far they've developed as one. With the ending so much has changed so how is Kelly's pov not more fun? or Silas not acting as a older brother...how is that not more interesting? I wish I could've scene these scenes but cannot because there's none of their pov.

I was relieved and incredibly happy that we got Matt's Pov in the books yet we never got a Jason one and I feel he absolutely needed one! I cannot respect him nor like his character as much anymore. He was this great character with lots of confidence and plans but after what happened with his story and losing Kelly, he became this loser. I was waiting for four books to see this man become that which he was before. One who can take charge and be responsible for others. but that was never shown only told through others POV. It was like he could only function now that Kelly was back in his life. Big disappointment in his character. I would think i would see him pick up his broken pieces and become a dad to Saylor (even though Kelly was not there)with so much happiness since she was born from the woman he has always loved. I felt his character was a little butchered and its hard to see him in a positive light.

Maybe it was irrelevant to this author about growing bonds between familial relationships since she never took the next step. I kept waiting to see a scene where Jason mans up his loser weakling self and have a one on one talk with his daughters. It never happened and if it did later, which i doubt, it was never shown. I think that having this scene would've been crucial and help to create the atmosphere of change amongst the family in a positive light. Even having Silas talking to Mila. It was incredibly sad not to have these moments. AND I can tell you all readers who loved this series are greatly invested in this family! so it was strange.

I believe because all these books were quite short, everything was done fast-paced that other things that solidfy a great book like relationships were overlooked and not fleshed out enough.

4.5 Stars-Excellent End to the Series

As with the other books in this series, we focus on one of the Rogue boys and thier love interest which was no exception with #NYGirl. This time around we delve into the makings of Kai and his lady love. Also same as the other books, there is a lot of Rogue action going on around them. This review may contain spoilers for previous books in the series.

All I wanted was to see who was behind this whole attacking the Rogue operation and I suppose see how it worked out with Kai and Oakland. Like the previous books, the romance took second stage to the background story in my mind. As for the Rogue situation, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, I did end up guessing correctly when it came right down to who done it, but did enjoy the details and the curve ball A.M. Madden threw in.

As for Kai and Oakland, I didn't think they had any chemistry. For a best friend to Saylor she was great, as girlfriend material she wasn't. She wouldn't understand the life Kai has chosen (or had chosen for him when he was younger) and that made her a bad fit for him in my eyes. Everybody else was on board except her and she drags things out with Kai unnecessarily.

This series was an unexpected surprise for me. I enjoyed the length of each book and how they flowed perfectly from one to the next. There is a lot going on in a few pages and A.M. Madden worked it out beautifully.

I've said it in previous reviews, and I'll say it again, I'm so very glad that I had the whole series on my kindle at the same time, and frankly, I spent the whole weekend reading them all in order because I'm so invested. There are three friends; Ciaran, Silas, and Kai who are a strong team for Rogue. #NYGirl is Kai's story finally, and unfortunately, the last book in this fabulous series. Oaklynn is Saylor's bestie from NY, and she & Kai had something developing until she learned that she was the last person to find out about Rogue. I felt so badly for her because no one likes being the odd man out that's for sure. However, everything is coming to a head that Kai is part of, so he isn't able to fix what he broke for a cool minute, if he ever can. You know, I know this is the last book, but I feel like there are a lot of questions left over so I pray that this awesome author will give us more. I'm not saying that I didn't love to see how these boys & their girls ended up, but still, maybe I just wasn't ready to say goodbye LOL! This has been a fantastic series that I'll revisit again and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Awesome!
This book was so busy. So full of action. All happened so fast. I don’t know if it’s going to be the last book in this series but it was well worth the read. This time it’s the love between Oaklynn and Kai. We got a few glimpses of this couple in the other 3 books. But we finally get their story.
The 3rd book left the team shattered. Explosions all over. Team members missing. And worse of all Oaklynn finding out what Kai and all her friends were keeping from her. It all explodes around her and boy is she pissed.
Kai thought he had more time to tell her and well not really. The trust just went down the drain. As did their relationship.
The team is hard at work trying to fend off Calvin and Oaklynn and Kai are trying to mend their relationship
So cute those two!
Of course we have the whole team on board which is fun to read again.
Hope there is another book but I’m happy that the team is back together.
Maybe Reed is next!!

the end…

This was the final book in the Midwest Boys Series. I was looking forward to see how it all played out in the end, especially for Kai & Oaklynn. There was drama and danger, but it lacked that angst that I expected to find from this series. And the ending, most of the story was left I. A good place, but it felt weak. Plus this book needs to be ran by an editor o e more time because there were multiple typos.
