Dirge never felt at home in the Seas—her family made sure of that. A half-breed in a siren shoal where purity and beauty reign, she was a failure from birth. When her mother sends her on a mission for vengeance, she must trade her tail for legs and carry out a murder. If she succeeds, she will earn power and prominence among her kind. If she fails, her demon father will pay the price. When she arrives in a new region, she finds more than the darkness and evil she had come to expect. She finds power. She finds support. She finds a home. But Dirge must hide the secret of what she truly is and why she is in the region, lest her plan is foiled and her mother follows through on her threat to destroy everything Dirge holds dear.
Wave is the stunning second book in this world. I loved catching up with old character in this same world, form a new character’s perspective. The world is stunning and the story even better. Pick up Mask and Wave to fill your ya heart!
I wasn't sure that the author could deliver another book that I loved so much, since I knew this book would not follow the characters and stories of the first in the series. But I was pleasantly surprised and now I can't tell which one I like better.
This book follows a different woman than the first, but we still get to see glimpses of the original characters and come to find out what happened to a few of them after the events of the original book. It was a nice nod to those of us who loved them. Again, Fink is able to create this amazing, unique and lovable world with characters who feel like home. The secondary characters are yet again forces to be reckoned with themselves, and fight the MC's for the top spot in my heart.
This book was phenomenal. It was a page turner the second I opened it and I am so in love with this author's work. Can't wait for the next book in the series. I have no doubt that while it will follow again a different set of characters, I'll love them just as much. Fink can do no wrong in my eyes. Speaking of eyes though, prepare your tissues. Or possibly a weapon, since I'm angryyyyyy at the ending breaking my heart.
WoW, this story gets better and better with the new generation. But WHY the cliffhanger I'm glad book three was out by the time I read this so I could jump right in.
I have been waiting for Wave, the second in the series of The Four Regions by Andrea Fink. I was ecstatic to get my hands on an ARC. Fink did not disappoint as she takes us on a journey with Dirge from the literal saltiness of sea and her biological family to the dry land and the Dark Region. Dirge, known in the Dark Region as Daughter of Tide, Dauti for short, meets more friendly faces from the moment she begins her journey than she ever had the pleasure of in her own land. She comes across a familiar face (Sway)from the Seas who helps her find her feet in a world full of oddities. While accompanying Sway to the Palace she finds the most beautiful room she's ever seen, the library! A girl after my own heart! It's in this room she meets the handsome Soll who not only sits and reads with her, but shows her a whole new world helping her to borrow books. As Dauti and Soll spend more time together they begin to feel more than their mutual love of each others companionship. After saving Soll from danger by casting an enemy boat far down the river with her power of water manipulation she succeeds on her trial and earns her name in the Dark Region, known forevermore as Wave. Will Wave be able to find true happiness in this world or will the danger her mother poses forever lurk around every corner? Preorder your copy now!
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great continuation of the story that started in Mask (book 1). Without spoiling anything, this book brought in more of the story involved with the first book and a bunch of new characters to love and hate. It is a quick read, but does a good job of hooking you and making you want more of this world and the four regions. Not all questions were answered, but I imagine that with each installment more will be revealed about what is going on, as this book did this a bit for the first book. I find myself wanting to re-read the first book with what I know now. I cannot wait for the next book and look forward to any other work the author does beyond or with this world.
Andrea Fink what have you done? I’m devastated with the ending, totally heartbroken 💔. Guys do read this book, I’m in need of the third book ASAP. Story started with a new character in light, showing a new region than the last book had but with the vengeance carried from last book. I was not expecting this story line but was happy how it went. With all the coziness and love , i literally thought at one point that everything will be good like Fairytales but but but but It takes a complete u-turn and gives you all hawwwwwww feel. I never liked sirens and after this book i hate them.🤨
I loved this contiuatuon of the story, though it was not what I expected. I was happy to see some characters reappear. Glad I have the next one on hand.
Writing a second book of a series is really hit or miss for a lot of people, but Andrea did an incredible job. Her ability to paint this unusual world really sucks you in and makes you thirst for more. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoy immersive fantasy stories.
I read Mask when it first came out and have been impatiently waiting (stalking Fink's posts on social media) for news of Wave ever since. I was so thrilled to get my hands on a copy of the book, and I devoured it in a few hours flat. I couldn't put it down! Somehow Fink has outdone herself with this second installment, both with the detailed imagery and a writing style that flows across the page. The plot was terrific, introducing the reader to a completely different region and group of characters. I thought I loved the MC from Mask, but I realized that I was wrong after reading Wave. Dirge, Sway, and Soll are my life now. Fink is a master of world-building; there is no detail that she hasn't thought of. Her world is rich with history and culture that is both fantastical and believable. Once again, Fink was able to masterfully weave twists and emotion into her work that makes Wave come alive in your hands. You feel the fear and hatred, the excitement, and the love woven through the epic events taking place. You see the magic and wonder as we follow Dirge through the world, and my gods, that library! I can't wait to continue my journey in the Four Realms. Have you started yours yet?
One thing I love about sequels/series is seeing how the author evolves as a writer. While I greatly enjoyed the first book, Mask, there were a few rough edges. Nothing that ruined the story for me, and I gave it a hearty 4 stars. Fink has certainly grown in her craft, and it shows. She’s more comfortable in her voice as a storyteller, and has sharpened skills to match. Wave follows Dirge, a siren raised in a very unloving environment by a mother who does not even like her, and who also happens to be the queen of the sirens. Dirge is sent ashore on new legs gained in a painful ritual to exact revenge against her mother’s old political rival. We follow her through the stumbling (literal and metaphorical) and successes. Fans of Mask will be happy to hear from some old favorites, but I won’t give much more than that. Fink again demonstrates her commanding grasp of tropes, weaving them with classic fairy tale elements in a world built with enviable attention to detail. Remember that growth I mentioned? It’s clear in the careful foreshadowing and pacing. The story slowly marches on, but beneath all the seeming happiness and good fortune lurks what we know must await, and pays off with an ending that might just leave your head spinning. I admit to being overwhelmed at the way Dirge changes names several times, but each change makes sense with the world of the setting, and I my enjoyment was not dimmed by it.
Thank you to the author for a free copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
This review contains spoilers for book one, so if you haven't read Mask, you probably shouldn't read this review. This review also contains spoilers for this book. First and foremost, I love the world Fink has created for this series. There are a few things that I don't quite understand about it, but it's still a very unique and spectacular world. I especially love that the Kraken was featured early on. I really connected with a couple of the characters in this book (Sway and Stalworth), and a few of my questions at the end of Mask were answered. But... I ended up with a few more questions about the motives of characters in the first book. For instance, if Belle didn't want the potion used on Daucha, why make it in the first place? Especially in a region so prone to bloodshed and with allies few would trust? Unfortunately, that's not where my problems with this book ended. I didn't quite enjoy the large portion of the book that was devoted to castle life, a happy courtship, party planning, and minimal intrigue. I wanted more action than that, and it just fell flat. Forgiveness came way too quickly when Wave revealed her true reason for going to the castle. It just didn't feel realistic that she was forgiven instantly, and made me start to question Strike's decision making abilities. Had this been drawn out a bit, her time in the castle would've been more tense, and thus, more interesting. I also didn't appreciate the reliance on a literary reference to mark a major plot point (Belle handing Wave a copy of Macbeth to tell her that Tide was dead with literally no other explanation). I haven't read Macbeth in about 20 years, and so, that reference was lost on me. When the next chapter opened with Wave thinking about what to do since her mother had killed her father, I was genuinely underwhelmed by the way it was brought into the plot and Wave's nearly emotionless response to losing the one person that was truly there for her throughout most of her life. By the end, I was finding it hard to really care about Wave, to be honest. She had a clear path (matricide) and didn't take it, even with not only her life, but the lives of her husband and children on the line. The loss of her father barely marred her emotionally, and yet, when Belle stabbed Strike, suddenly she couldn't even function. And Strike made one too many dumb decisions for me to really root for him. I can't speak to the grammar/editing of the book since I read an ARC copy, and thus the book had more edits to go. My review is solely for the plot and characters. So, all in all, I wasn't terribly impressed by this book. Despite the cliffhanger ending, I won't be continuing the series, even just to find out who was knocking on the door. I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

When I read Mask, I instantly fell in love with the Four Regions world and all of the little details in it. And this book just builds on everything and takes you deeper into it.
Wave follows Dirge, a different girl from a different region, and is set several years after the first book, but Fink definitely didn’t abandon the beloved characters from the first book. Their stories are carefully woven into Dirge’s story in a really cool, exciting way!
I loved these books so much! Fink has created a unique fantasy world with so many layers, yet it’s still accessible for people who aren’t necessarily into high fantasy, which I absolutely love.
And now I’m super excited to read the next one and find out how everything comes together!!
Enjoyed it overall, I enjoy the world created by the author. My only real "complaint" was so much action/ death crammed into last portion of the book. It was hard to take so much tragedy as once. I couldn't process one death/loss before another happened. I was thankful on the last few pages there was some optimism restored though. Excited for the next one!

Book Two of the Four Regions series did not disappoint! I loved diving back into the richly built world while getting to know a new cast of characters. With the dramatic ending, I’m so glad Book Three was just released so that I don’t have to wait to find out what happens next!
Wave is the second book from author Andrea Fink. I absolutely love Wave. The writing is so good. I adore the world building. There is so much detail in the four regions. I need to read Mist soon because ugh that ending hehe. Really enjoying this series. It is brilliant.
Omgosh this series is so good. Im kinda as there's only one more to go. I enjoyed this story a little more than the first one. I can even hear the confidence in Andrea as she narrates it. Well done my friend. Im excited to get to Mist!!
The way the world keeps building and yet overlaps with book one is fantastic. This one definitely ends on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait for book 3!!!!
