With boundless wisdom and warmth, Give Them P.I.E. delivers the powerful final message of best-selling author Ed J. Pinegar, a man who understood the incomparable importance of practicing Christlike love and who made it his life’s work to spread that love to all.
During his years as a mission president, Brother Pinegar coined an acronym meant to inspire his missionaries to more effectively teach, love, and support those around P.I.E.—Praise, Inspiration, and Encouragement. I wish I could give this book 10 stars because it absolutely deserves it. Every parent, teacher, coach, or leader so read this. Brother Pinegar’s use of P.I.E. is wonderful. It’s a simply and straightforward concept that will truly have far reaching results. I hope and pray that I can always remember to give P.I.E to all that I may encounter.
This book was incredible! The final paragraph of the book ends with the best message. When you struggle to connect with others, feel like you are failing at a calling or role, or you want to be better, the best place to start is to give those around you PIE (praise, encouragement, inspiration). What a simple yet profound idea! Love and service are the best ways to help those around us. I highly recommend reading this book and adding PIE to your everyday life!
I bought this book to give to a friend as a gift for Father's day. After he told me he didn't want a gift for Father's day, I resolved to keep the book and read it myself. I still passionately believe he needs to partake in this wonderful message.
This is the last book of over 60 that Brother Ed Pinegar wrote in his lifetime. He passed away in August of 2020. This sweet (no pun intended) narrative on life and loving others is timeless in its lesson. Brother Pinegar coined the acronym "P.I.E." while he was serving as the mission president of the London England South Mission in the 80's. It stands for praise, inspiration, and encouragement. Lifting and loving others is a vital part of being a disciple of Christ, and the best way to do it is in the Savior's way. Jesus served PIE to those He ministered to and so must we. If we do so, we can find that all parties involved benefit. Simply telling someone, "I love you" is a start to changing the hearts of those we love.
I am not the best at compliments. I am typically lacking in giving them, and I am terrible at receiving them. This lovely book has helped me start to see that it would better my life if I learned to excel in both aspects. I am so grateful for the lesson this taught, it really gave a whole wealth of knowledge. I'm so excited about what I've learned and I'm even more excited to start applying what I've learned in my life. I hope we can all strive to serve more PIE to the world and if we do, I firmly believe that the Lord will give PIE back to us. 5/5 stars.
I love Ed Pinegar. He was the mission president of the Provo MTC when I was there preparing to serve a mission in Ecuador. The lessons he taught me while I was there were powerful. I love this positive, upbeat man! He wrote this book before he passed away and really the message is beautiful about the importance of P.I.E. (Praise, Inspiration and Encouragement) in our lives. God gives us PIE and we need to give those around this sweet gift.
In Ed J. Pinegar’s last book we learn a concept he taught to his missionaries while he was a mission president. It is as simple as P.I.E. What better way is there to lift those around us then with a good ole slice of pie? With that slice we can give them Praise, Inspiration, and Encouragement. It contains great story examples from his life and the scriptures.
This is a great book for leaders, parents, and anyone who wants to better love those around them. I highly recommend this book.
It had a good message, but I dont think im a big fan of his. This is my second book that I’ve read, and I don’t think I liked his writing style. I listened to it and the guy reading it wasn’t doing it for me so that could be the problem too.
I read it for thanksgiving because it had “pie” in the title, but I did like the message it was teaching us.
A quick read that teaches us three simple ways to spark positive change in the relationships around us. The three ideas are not new to any of us, however, we certainly need a refresher. This book will reinvigorate your desire to do and be good in this ever darkening world.
True leadership, which is simply to be empowered by the Holy Ghost and to share this power with others, is summarized in this little book in a refreshing and uplifting way. All of my personal exposure to leadership training and development (UofU, MBA from CSU Fresno, Dr. Quinn of UMich, Education Week, Church training and experience, Scouting, Woodbadge, etc.) is brought into focus in this sparkling, little, benchmark book. P.I.E. (praise, inspiration, encouragement) is a mantra intertwined throughout the author Brother Ed Jolley Pinegar's life. The origin of the acronym PIE is explained in the Foreword of this book written by Assistants who served with President Pinegar in the England London South Mission where the power of P.I.E. became evident.
