The 7 public speaking strategies are helpful for anyone who wants to learn or fine-tune their verbal communication skills in group settings. The author shares his years of experience on the podium, including failures, inspirational quotes, and specific movie examples to help connect the dots. My favorite quote is, "If you compare and compete, you will live in defeat." Overall, this book is a good read because it's about pushing past insecurities, weaknesses, and fears to accomplish our goals.

What a terrible book. I've read my fair share of communication books and this book essentially regurgitates everything from past books, with little to nothing new or revolutionary. What's even more surprising is how highly it's rated on Goodreads. It's filled to the brim with positive affirmations and cliche tropes ("You can do this", "I believe in you") but it doesn't provide readers with the fundamentals of public speaking to helping them manifest this to action. Top it off with the fact that the author repeats himself again and again, with more than a quarter of the book being rendered redundant and a waste of the reader's time.

" If you compare and compete you will live in defeat."

Take aways :
Strategy 1: Uncovering the wound.Do not let your emotions to take over deal with them now. Deal with your past wounds that made you believe and fear that you are not a good speaker.
Strategy 2: Visuals the worst. Practice in advance, visualize worse case scenarios in, face the emotions and let it go. Deep breathily and take control. Remember in real life it’s much better than you have imagined your worse case scenario. Think what are the pros and cons of presenting. Write list, think about positive emotions people will experience, be detailed what can go wrong.
Strategy 3: You, be you. Be yourself, everyone else is taken. What makes you?
Strategy 4: Speak to one. Get to know with audience, get to know 3-4 people before the presentation. Find a way to connect with them.Imagine that you speaking to them rather than a larger crowd.
Strategy 5: It's not about you. Remember people not thinking of you, they are thinking of themselves.
Strategy 6: Channel the power. Practice your physical presence by practicing your movement and use pauses when speaking. Roll back shoulder, smile, take a deep breath. Learn to take time to reflect on the presentation, learn from it, observe how did you connect with audience.
Strategy 7: Be in the moment: Do not bare yourself down with a burden of being someone else. Your past is the past, don’t worry about future focus on now.
- After the speech don’t bit yourself, what’s done is done. Smile, congratulation yourself, be proud. Next day relive the moment through third party, list 3 things you can do differently. Role your shoulders back and smile, if it still affects you ask yourself what happened in the past that caused this wound.
- how to be in present? Take in details, breath and enjoy it
Change your perspectives, believes, manage your emotions, be present

Best guide I have read on the topic

This guide to public speaking is very relatable. The author begins by telling us about his own disastrous speaking experiences, so we can see that he wasn’t perfect to begin with either. Speaking is a skill that can be learned! He gives us lots and lots of strategies to use to overcome our fears and have a successful public speaking experience.

I really loved the chapter, “It’s Not About You,” that reminds us where other people’s heads are when we’re in front of them speaking. And I also appreciated the reminder to be ourselves. We’ve heard it before, but the way the author explains it, it really struck a chord.

Really, lots of great things to try. If you have an engagement, this book will help you.

The author touches on the psychological sides of public speaking more than hands-on techniques. I would say it is good enough. Easy to understand, hard to master.

“When all eyes are on us, we feel scrutinized. We feel judged.”

Knygoje pateikiamos 7 strategijos (#Uncover & Clean the Wound, #Imagine the Worst, #You Be You, #Speak to One, #It’s Not About You, #Channel The Power, #Be in the Moment). “People are hoping to get something from your speech that will fit into their life. They care less about your content than they do about their own hair, clothes, hunger, and sleep. It’s about them, not you.”

“Stop thinking about yourself. It‘s about them, not you“.

Like many of us, speaking in front of others has never been my strong suit. I have long believed that some of us simply are not the "type" to be able to speak in front of a group with skill and poise. After reading this book, I am certain that I can grow in this area and become the competent and self-assured speaker that I've desired to be.

The author's experience with many types of public speaking really shines in this book, and he positively de-mystifies what it takes to gain proficiency in this area. This book is full of practical, easy-to-follow advice, as well as real-life stories from his experience speaking that illustrate his content with humor and memorable lessons. This book is not the dry script that you might expect from a book on public speaking.

Lastly, I was thoroughly surprised by the potential applications of the content. I read this book hoping to gain insight into becoming an effective and confident speaker, but what I drew from it surely surpassed that. Many of the practices referenced in the book can easily be implemented in daily life to help the reader become a more confident and capable person in general.

Would definitely recommend.

So much more than speaking

First of all, I must admit that I hate public speaking so the title of this book immediately grabbed my attention. Could the author really deliver what he promised? Absolutely and then some! Speak with no Fear is not just about getting over your fear of public speaking it’s also about life changes, life experiences and how we can deal with these tricky little situations. It’s a book about confidence and embracing your inner self. I truly enjoyed reading it and took a lot of precious jewels from it. If you’re on the fence, don’t consider, buy!

You be you!

The best part was of this book was when the author gave everyone permission to be themselves. I know I need to give myself permission to be myself more often.

The author’s advice about speaking to one person by building relationships with your audience before hand was also helpful.

This was a great book for the research I am doing. If you are nervous about speaking in public and want a warm-up this is it. Also, go find a Toastmaster's club. It will change that fear and will give you a place to practice your new skillset.

Thou book, with thine vibrant orange cover, didst promise wonders bold and brave; yet hast thou deceived me, for thy contents ne'er match the brilliance of thine outward gaze. For the record, I asked Chat GPT to write me that opening line. The rest of this review is all Chat Roland. For the third consecutive time, an orange self-help book screamed, “Buy me. You won’t be disappointed”. And for the third consecutive time, I did, and I was.

I am not afraid of speaking in public; I just don’t get many opportunities. I thought this book might be worth a read for tips and tricks. At 175 pages, it is not that robust to begin with. But a good dozen of the pages between the chapters are totally blank and another half dozen each have a single inspiration quote from someone other than the author. Another half dozen pages contain only 2-3 sentences that close out a chapter. By page 30, I hadn’t learned a thing and felt like I was reading a script for an informercial. So, while the book’s cover screamed “buy me”, the book’s contents screamed, “I don’t have enough information to fill a real book, so let’s just spread the peas out on the plate to make it look like we ate most of them.” That is what I used to do when I wanted to fool my audience. Still, my motto when I finish a not-so-great book, is to find and share the good and/or interesting highlights. So here goes.

According to the author, public speaking is the number one fear in America, even more frightening than death.

Mark Twain is quoted as saying “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery of it.”

“Watching yourself speak is extremely useful.”

In preparing for a speech, don’t wish for it to be over, or you will miss out on a learning opportunity.

Near the end of the book, he includes the opening stanza to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”. I’ll give him props for that.

Mike Acker is a professional speaker and a communications coach with nearly two decades of experience, so I have to assume his verbal communications skills and knowledge far outweigh the effort and information he put into this book. No more orange covers for me.

Book : Speak with Confidence: Overcome Self-Doubt, Communicate Clearly, and Inspire Your Audience
Author : Mike Acker

I have known about Mike Acker for a long time, but I had never read his books, because his lessons are often available in convenient short forms in blogs and magazine articles. Reading this book makes me realise that the information contained in those summarised versions are insignificant when compared to what is covered in the full texts. I recommend to anyone who wishes to learn about public speaking to read this book now. It covers all aspects of the subject, which range from the concerns of the complete beginner to the needs of the more experienced who wants to make better speeches.

This book does not apply to just public speaking, I think it can be applied to our day to day talking. Make conversation interesting for others to listen to. I will definitely use the ideas to practise on my social life and prepare for my public speaking.

It's a good book to read. It gives you a many ideas of thinking before going for small talk or public speaking but you should must follow the instructions given. And there are several illustration Which help you to better understand that how our fear play very crucial role in public speaking and how to avoid that. But it is little boring after some time you fill like give up But don't do that go on. You will get good at end. A book can’t give you confidence, but this book can give you the tools you need to confidently speak in front of large or small audiences and even respond to random questions.

Mike ackers book talks about public speaking and how to better perfect yourself and overcome your fears. He uses 7 strategies but I’m only going to mention 3 of the strategies. This first one is uncovering the wound which means what makes you nervous as a speaker and trying to better understand yourself. You can ask yourself the following questions: Why do you care so much about what people might think of you?, Do you have memories of multiple people making fun of you?

The next strategy he talks about is imaging to worst, when you imagine the worst you have a better outcome of doing better. “Get anxious and get control” (62) which is such a helpful tip especially if this is your first time doing public speaking. A few questions you can ask yourself is Where will I stand? What will I be wearing? How many people are in the room? (62)

The 3rd strategy aka the last one is well be you. Most of time your Audience is not paying attention to you so this can relieve a little bit of the weight off your shoulders. This quote the Mike ackers uses “You will never be comfortable trying to be someone else.” (76) is such an amazing quote because in any type of public speaking you do not have to be like anyone else.

Overall this book can teach you A lot of tips about public speaking. Especially if you're nervous like me, it can definitely give you a boost of confidence.

This book is short and readable, offering practical advice on overcoming the fear of public speaking. While I didn't learn many new things from reading it, I don't regret the experience. It serves more as a motivational guide than a didactical one.

The book suggests reflecting on the root cause of your fear and identifying any underlying trauma.

It advises imagining the worst-case scenario and evaluating the pros and cons of your speech.

It emphasizes the importance of embracing your unique characteristics and individuality.

It recommends connecting with the audience beforehand to understand their concerns, allowing you to tailor your speech to their needs and speak directly to individuals rather than addressing the crowd as a whole.

The author highlights that the audience is primarily focused on themselves, not you, so there is no need to worry excessively. Most people want you to succeed because they are there to learn and would feel uncomfortable if you fail.

Additionally, the book suggests using your anxiety as fuel for your performance.

Confidence is needed to a man like a soul to the body

Over years it's believed that many have fear to face the external and unknown people this may result in fomo and the phobia to face the outer audience .There has been a lot of speculations that spread over the years ,even the greatest speakers of the world are really shy and introverts.

The insecure feeling to be questioned or judged by someone is a nagging thing that never make us comfortable with outer audience. The book has the content that could help you to overcome the fear of public speaking, huge gather addressing, able to put your idea before everyone , able to excel the meetings and presentations. The way and methods that has added in this title are absolute actionable and easy to implement in the real life.If you are the one who is looking for a book that could inspire you and helps you build your speaking ability.
