Capturing the Captain

Rate this book
Lacey King, a wealthy Aussie heiress, has everything she could need or want, except friends. Sick of being used for her money and power, she’s withdrawn from society to focus on charities when her American cousin calls in a favor. Now, thanks to one six-and-a-half-foot tall, god-like, beefcake of a man, Lacey’s relatively simple life is about to get complicated.

Cleat Walker has always been the golden boy of rugby. Tall, good looking, and captain his team, he pretty much gets what and who he wants. When everything goes south Down Under, he finds himself in the care of a sexy, entitled redhead who’s determined to do dangerous charity work alone. Not on Cleat’s watch.

Sparks and tempers heat up as Lacey and Cleat travel the Outback, where crocodiles aren’t the most deadly things in the bush.

Cleat, Andrew's friend and team captain, is enamored of the gorgeous redhead, Lacey. She seems familiar, but he can't wrap his head around why. Being drunk out of his mind doesn't help, but he couldn't resist. What happened to his friend and teammate, Andrew, really put him in a funk and now he's not only let his team down, but he's messed up his chance with the sassy beauty who kindly saved him. When he finds out Lacey's determined to go traipsing the Outback alone to do some charity work, he invites himself along. He's not about to let her put her in danger by going alone. But will close confines allow their attraction to be consummated?

Lacey's got walls sky high, but Cleat's sweet and protective personality seem to be scaling those walls well. Will she allow him in completely? Or will her natural defenses guide her behavior at the last minute, and hurt him beyond redemption?

Capturing the Captain, like Outflanking the Flanker, is sweet and hot. I liked Lacey's sassy, tough personality, well, I did until the end when she was a complete bitch because she let her defenses get the best of her. She made up for it, though, and Cleat's forgiving personality was no match for her grand gesture. Speaking of Cleat, he's my favorite part of this installment. A big slab of muscle with an equally big heart, charm to spare, and and one dirty mouth. Lacey is a lucky, lucky woman!

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger warnings: mention of death, knifing, poaching.

Oh my god, Cleat and Lacey. Those two were absolute fab, and in the outback, it can be hard to be fab when you're literally trying to save wallabies and your life as well.

From the moment they met, you could just tell they had something. Sure, their meeting wasn't exactly best (it can be hard to talk or know someone passed out drunk), they soon begin to know each other more when Cleat and his sister temporarily live with Lacey while his friends recover at her boathouse (Lacey's cousin is friends with chloe).

Tons of chemistry is explored, but each also gets to know how wonderful, compassionate, smart, and thoughtful the other is about the things they put their utmost passion in and others. Lacey inspired me a lot with her own actions in that way.

With wonderful writing (this time 'round), and well-developed characters (not like Andrew and Chloe), side characters being a lot of fun (loved Rianne), and just the Australian setting (I really got to connect, living in Melbourne myself), this novel was a lot more fun and wonderful than the first one, and I now breathe a sigh of relief and wait with bated breath for more wonderful novels like this one by Phoenix.

Until the next read,

I was excited for Cleat & Lacey’s story and it didn’t disappoint, this fun, steamy read was everything I expected and more. If you are looking for an entertaining read that will leave you excited for what’s to come look no further than Capturing the Captain ( Love ‘n’ Sports Series #2).
Lacey is a wealthy, Aussie heiress, she has everything you could ever want except friends and after having so many people use her for her money she now concentrates on her charity work.
Cleat is a star rugby player, he knows what he wants and he normally gets it but when everything starts to fall apart he finds himself on a trip into the outback with a seriously hot redhead named Lacey. What follows is a fun, entertaining, steamy read as this couple encounter the wild outback of down under but the problem is it’s not just the wildlife that’s dangerous……
Nicole Phoenix is a new author to me but after reading both books in this series I will certainly be looking to follow this very talented writer, her writing is strong, her characters are easy to love and so far the books I have read are full odiferous passion, humour and love. Great read.

4 star review Capturing The Captain (Love 'n' Sports - Rugby Book 2) by Nicole Phoenix

The second book in the Love n Sports series was just as entertaining as the first one. As an Australian I am always excited to read a book that is set in Australia. Lacey King is sick of being used for her wealth and or connections. When her cousin asks for a favour she reluctantly agrees.

What she didn’t count on is that favour having to do with Cleat Walker, Captain of the US rugby team. From the moment they meet, the sparks fly and they quickly become involved in a fiery relationship as they travel the Australian Outback. The landscape is harsh and tensions will rise as high as the temperatures do.

The writing was descriptive and I could easily imagine myself in the Australian Outback. Aside from an excessively high number of uniquely Australian terms used, some of which I myself (as an Australian) have never heard of, I enjoyed the flow of the story. The chemistry and attraction sizzles between them and you could feel the intensity build. These two appear to be different and yet they really work well together.

I look forward to reading more from Ms.Phoenix.

Lacey is an heiress who is over people using her for her money, so she pretty much goes to ground to focus on the charities that mean something to her. It's during this time that her cousin asks for a favor, and while she doesn't want to do it, she agrees which maybe just maybe been the best thing to happen in her life. Cleat is a rugby captain who normally gets whatever he wants, and at this point, he wants Lacey when she comes to his rescue. Cleat may be able to get anyone he wants, but Lacey isn't having it so let the games begin. I have a bucket list & traveling to the land down under is on it, and I say that because I feel like I did so with the descriptive genius of Nicole Phoenix, and my room really was a tad boring after I was finished with this story LOL! I really enjoyed Capturing the Captain as Cleat was a big hearted man who was just what the doctor ordered for Lacey but she didn't make it easy. In order to see how it all panned out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is the 2nd book in this series and is Cleat and Lacey’s journey. Lacey is a wealthy heiress who is jaded from being used for her money, and with no genuine friends in her life she withdraws from society and is totally focused on charities. When a cousin calls needing a favour, Lacey jumps at the chance. Cleat was the captain and the golden boy of rugby until everything goes south. These two get off to a rocky start and the sparks fly between them. This is a well written story which is fun, entertaining, humorous, and with witty banter, which leads to a steamy and all-consuming addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.

After reaching the end of Outflanking The Flanker I instantly started looking forward to this second book! I got back into the Love 'N' Sports world right away! I enjoyed this second installment!

Cleat and Lacey's journey pulled me in! I really liked how the ball got rolling from the start and being able to get into their minds. I enjoyed their chemistry as well!

With Capturing The Captain, Ms.Phoenix has created another good read! I am looking forward to picking up more of her work in the future!

These were my first reads by author Nicole Phoenix. I loved them but I needed a little time to get into the storyline. I love reading sports romance so I kept reading and then they just went WOW on me. I loved them and couldn't stop reading them. They both had great world building and wonderfull characters. I think I just had to get used to her writing style or just did not have a good day when I started this series. But she still gets a 4 star review from me. I can not wait to read other stories by Nicole Phoenix.

Oh Lacey and Cleat!

Do you enjoy hate to love, forced proximity, billionaire romance, and romantic suspense? Then check out this second book in the Love N Sports series!

If you read Outflanking the Flanker, then you may recall meeting Lacey towards the end of that story. Well it's time for her to get her HEA, and Cleat is who she is destined to be with. Join these two as they head out on an adventure in the Australian Outback, where they meet up with some less than desirable people.

I will say that I wasn't certain about Lacey and Cleat in the beginning. And as I write this, I'm still not completely certain. I did enjoy their story, and am anticipating the next book with Carmen.
