Castleton Hearts #1

Just One Night

Rate this book
Paige Roman is out for revenge. Not just any revenge; she’s out to mend her recently shattered heart. Her ex, Wyatt, is going to pay, and the best way to make that happen is to seduce the girl he’s always wanted but has never caught: Esme Bell. To be fair, the dark-haired bartender with the infectious laugh is the girl just about everyone wants, and Wyatt is no exception.
Paige’s plan is simple, and it’s going to work. Go out with Esme, take her home, and then rub her victory in Wyatt’s face for the whole town of Castleton, Maine to see. She does reconnaissance at the bar where Esme works, and soon, the game is ON.
Is Paige just going to head right for the bedroom? No. She’s more subtle than that. Paige has never really seduced anyone like this, but how hard could it be? She’s not completely devoid of sexy skills.
What starts as a plot to get back at her ex turns into something a whole lot more complicated when Paige catches major feelings. Is she ready to give up her mission and put her heart on the line again? Or should she just cut her losses and call the whole thing off?

So I'm a big fan of Chelsea M. Cameron's books, especially since they started writing primarily wlw content. The books are fun and tropey romances- and often times that hits just the spot I'm craving. They're fun and make me happy, and their new book is no exception.

Just One Night follows Paige Roman. Paige was recently brutally dumped by her ex boyfriend Wyatt. While Paige feels emotionally over Wyatt relationship-wise, he continues being shitty to her every time they run into each other in their small town. So with the help of her friend, Paige decided to get even with Wyatt by seducing and sleeping with the girl Wyatt has had feelings for for years, the mysterious and beautiful Esme Bell. But Paige plays the long game with Esme, getting to know her and being friends with her as well- and oops when you do that sometimes feelings come along with it.

This book was pretty fun! It was a fun cast of characters. Paige was a fun protagonist who is very easy to root for, even when her actions with wanting to sleep with Esme were a little suspicious. And that plotline would have been a lot more iffy if in the book, anything happened before Paige caught real feelings- but real feelings sneak up on Paige very early and I think it's clear her intentions had changed.

Paige's friends Emerald and Linley were also really fun and brought a lot out of Paige. I always liked seeing their interactions together. And I think Emerald is a prime candidate for a book of her own! I could definitely read another book set in Castleton

One thing I would have liked to see in this book were why Esme was so interested in Paige from the getgo. I liked them together and their chemistry, but Esme actually made the first move on Paige, and I don't remember ever finding out why exactly that happens. I also would have just loved to learn more about Esme in general!

If you like lighthearted but still well constructed romances, in my opinion Chelsea M. Cameron is one of the best, and this book is a really nice addition to their other ones. 4/5

Hmmmm. I really wanted to like this book but….

I don’t like Paige at all. Esme’s too good for her, I mean… yeah she plotted to use Esme as a revenge to her ex arsehole bf but as they get to know each other and eventually liked each other she still can’t move on from her ex like wtf? Little things still sets her off.. Its always Wyatt this Wyatt that.
You know, I really wanted to like Paige but she’s the main reason why I gave this a 3.
You would really thought that Paige and her ex bf was in a long relationship like 5-7-10 years time but 1 year? And she acted like that? Yeah well. I’m not underestimating the time they were together but.. hmmm.. She stayed with Wyatt because of s*x but they the f she acted that way?
Maybe I just feel really bad for Esme.
Pshhhh.

3.5 Stars - cute start to a small town romance series

A very enjoyable and sweet romance. You could see what the conflict was going to be over from a mile away. I was relieved that it was handled in a believable manner and not drawn out. The one thing that bothered me was the set up for how they meet/got together. But once it’s resolved I still wish we had got to have scene where Esme kissed Paige in front of Wyatt. That would have been so satisfying.

I was absolutely enthralled by this book until the end. For the entire story, the reader, at least this reader, is waiting for the axe to fall. I was like, I know it's coming but the journey to get there is so much fun.

Then... nothing. That part of the story fades away and we are left with the epilogue. I felt ripped off, and that's on me.

On the positive: I loved the bisexual/pansexual representation, the writing style is brilliant, and the characters engaging.

Would I read more by this author? Hell yes.

5 stars for the first 75%. 3 stars for the last quarter.
Overall rating 4.25 stars.

A fun f/f small town romance that was cute and tropey. I did mostly like it, but it suffered a lot from the fact that if you read the blurb, you know exactly what the conflict is going to be. I love knowing how romances are going to end (a guaranteed HEA is pretty much why I'm here, I'm a sap who loves love) but knowing what the major source of conflict is going to be right from the beginning is kind of a downer, because you're kinda left continuously anticipating it, waiting for the shoe to drop, instead of enjoying the romance. Obviously this is far from the first book to be structured like this, but for some reason, it bugged me more than usual. Sometimes authors shake things up, and it struck me that there might be a certain twist to this situation that would be really interesting? But alas. There was no twist; the conflict is exactly what you expect.

But again, it was a cute romance. Even though you know what's going to happen, I liked reading about the journey there. It's a really sweet and realistic read. I loved Esme and everything about the way she was described. Lots of cute pet moments. I do wish we had spent a little less time talking about Paige's ex, and definitely less time on Paige's ex's terrible new gf. Yeah, she didn't seem like a great person, but every time the book took a second to dunk on her I got a little exhausted.

This was my first book from Cameron, and I'm looking forward to trying more of their stuff. I may continue the series, because I did like the side characters

Rounding down because I just needed a bit more rationale after the big reveal part.

A solid attempt at the crappy 90s trope of someone pursuing someone for revenge on an ex. You can guess what the big moment will be for this one however felt more realistic than an 90s romcom.

It was a quick and easy read and I do enjoy that there are 7 more in the series that I can read whenever I want something light and feel good. I do wish Blue would get their own book but maybe that might be too much to hope for....

Good enough I guess. The angst in this book..was somewhat overblown I thought and for the most part thrown in for fill. Not bad but not her best work and I really only read this to get to the next in the series as it looks better ...we shall see

A very cute and sweet swooning shappic romance .
The premise of the plot was good. Characters were lovable.
The only problem is it was short and single pov.

Loved this story very much! The two main characters Paige and Esme were funny sweet, quirky and created situations that were very funny with their diva pets Potato and Stormy. The plot was well written, the characters are adorable.well done!

Plot
Paige is looking to get revenge on her ex-boyfriend, by sleeping with the girl he was always interested in, Esme. Paige starts to get to know Esme to sleep with her and get back at her ex, but problems arise with Page starts to fall for her.

Thoughts
I read this via Kindle Unlimited. It was a fun and quick romance. I am definitely interested in continuing with the series, as the rest of the series also appear to be f/f romances.

There was some issues with continuation - Paige's best friend is her ex-boyfriend's sister, and she basically vanishes in the second half of the book. Despite being such a big part of Paige's life. Her ex-boyfriend also basically vanishes, and we never really get a proper scene with him at all. I would have liked a bit more confrontation between the two of the them.

However, my main issue with this book was the revenge plot. Two main issues arose for me cause of this:
1. They didn't know Esme's sexuality??? She had never openly (or secretly to their knowledge) dated a girl in their town. Paige, and her friends', plan hinged on Paige being able to seduce Esme - but they didn't know if Esme was into girls. I thought that was a bit strange, and it made me uncomfortable. Sure revenge plots in general can be kind of terrible, but if Esme was in the closet then they would have had to force her out for the revenge plot to work - outing someone is never okay.
2. Revenge Plot is always gonna be the third act drama in a revenge story, but I felt it happened too far into the book and ended up being rushed. I kept waiting for it to be a thing and then it was resolved too quickly. If you spend a portion of a book having one character stressed about something, it shouldn't be resolved in a few pages.

Overall, I liked it. I will continue the series, but I wouldn't say this is the best executed book.

Paige want to exact revenge on her ex Wyatt by having a one night stand with Esme. The one girl Wyatt could never get. The problem is, she gets to know Esme and likes her. She feels bad about her original plan. And so a relationship is made, will Paige tell Esme about her plan, if she does how will Esme react. Is their relationship strong enough to handle this. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! 5 stars!!

When 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 (h) gets dumped by her boyfriend, she thinks the perfect revenge plan is to seduce the girl he was always obsessed with. ༘₊· ͟͟͞͞꒰➳ 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞·˚ ༘₊· ͟͟͞͞꒰➳

This was my first FF romance, so it was different but not bad. I would have loved it more if Paige hadn’t been so obsessed with getting revenge on her ex because it sometimes felt like she was still into him. She was so interested in his love life and what he was up to that she went through this dumb plan in the first place, and in the end, he didn’t even care that much. Esme was sweet, but her only personality trait was hating her job and always being at work. I didn’t connect to the story as much as I wanted to, and the ending threw me off because they moved FAST. While their getting together was a bit slow, once they were official, they went through so many stages of their relationship in a week. Good for them; I didn’t understand the appeal of them being together. I wish we had gotten to see Esme’s POV because she would have been more interesting than Paige. I wanted to know why she was so interested in her and what she thought of her besides what she was telling Paige.

It was a quick read so I can’t be too mad about not loving it, I wish the characters had more depth but they felt very bland. Not long enough to connect to anyone nor the romance. 😗

Interesting story

The blurb had me from the start. Once I started the book it was a bit of a slow read for me. I put it away for an entire week before picking it up again. I'm not sure what it was about it. I loved the whole idea, so the plot was good and captivating. The writing was good, which always plays a big part for me...
I guess then maybe for me it might've been that I had mixed feelings about Paige. I generally don't care much for first person narrative but sometimes they can be really good. I guess the key is really liking or relating to the character whose voice your reading. To be honest, I liked Esme better but we didn't get a deeper insight into her personality like I'd hoped. I loved the two of them together though and overall I would say this was a good read.
I'm definitely on to the next book in the series now.

This might say more about me than it does about the book, but if someone were dating me and admitted to having serious feelings for me, then later said they went out with me originally to get back at someone... I don't think I'd be that upset? Honestly, dating is a shitshow anyway, and there are a million shallow reasons why people go on dates in the first place. You got to the feelings part anyway, so wouldn't it only be a boost to your ego that you were considered enough of a catch to be a trophy?

I digress, very spicy romance and I continue to enjoy Chelsea Cameron's works.

As the rating says, this was OK. I did not like how this book started. Paige was going to seduce Esme to get back at her ex, Wyatt, because he always had a thing for Esme. All I could think about as the plot developed is how Esme would feel when she found out she was being used. This is set in a small town where everyone knows each other so I had to wonder how this was going to work out if someone else found out about Paige’s scheme. I liked many of the characters, especially Esme, and even Paige became more likable as she got to know Esme.

Just One Night

I enjoyed this story. I was a little skeptical because of the synopsis - revenge sex with your ex's crush just to get back at him. It was a little petty, but then again - the ex is an a$$#le, so I get it. The story turned out to be really good!

Paige and Esme ... from their first interaction, you can tell that this was going to be sizzling! Their chemistry and the way they connected was cute and full of sexual tension. Adorable couple until the truth is spilled.

A good story....definitely recommend the read!

???

I know this is a story, but why does the main character have to display such strong negative emotions regarding any business of her ex, especially since she had already realized that he was not a good person for her? This is NOT NORMAL! They're exs for a reason. Thank whoever for it and move on. Having any emotions regarding an ex is just a waste of energy. It really is time to stop perpetuating the 'scorned woman' stereotype, smh.

The premise of this book intrigued me, but at the same time, I wasn't sure about it. I was willing to give it a try though and now that I've come to the end of it, I'm in two minds. One one hand, I enjoyed the book for what it was, although it did move a bit quickly but I think that's usually the case in F/F books, at least the ones that I've read anyway. I liked the chemistry that Esme and Paige had and they seemed to bounce off each other really well. On the other hand, if I had to take a shot for every time Wyatt's name was mentioned, I would be passed out drunk right now. It's like, I get it, you're heartbroken, that's completely understandable but also, do you have to mention him or think about him at every waking opportunity?

I knew what this book was about from the description but I'm sorry, why would anyone think that getting revenge on an ex by seducing someone they used to fancy is a good idea? Also, Paige's friends were like, 'Oh, I told you it was a bad idea.'... When? When did you tell her that? From what I read, they were completely onboard with it from the get-go, Linley not as much but Em was but it still sort of bugged me to read because why even encourage that?

Anyway, Paige as a character was okay. She wasn't amazing but she wasn't that dull to the point where I hated her. She was just pretty average I guess. Esme I preferred a lot more, not only because she really was just an innocent party in that whole plan, but because she had a bit more to her. She was funny, confident and just knew what she wanted so for me to like Esme over Paige was kind of odd, considering the whole book was told from Paige's POV, but it says a lot.

This book was short. One of the shortest books I've read in a while, so that could be a major factor as to why certain things annoyed me because it happened over such a short span. So with that in mind, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Overall it was okay. It's not something I would read again though, purely because I just don't want to read over and over again about Wyatt and how much of an ass he is. It gets annoying after a while, trust me.

I'm giving this a 3.5 but anything .5 and above, I will always round off to the next whole number. Please Goodreads, give us half star options to make my reviewing life easier.

Plot: The book starts with Paige deciding to sleep with her ex-boyfriend’s dream girl, Esme, as revenge for leading her on and being a generally shitty boyfriend. It’s pretty hard to like a main character who is trying to use another person like that.

Paige is a somewhat socially awkward girl. Paige and Esme interact and decide to hang out as friends. They get along well and are mildly flirtatious. After spending more time together Esme makes a move and they end up sleeping together. Paige realizes how happy Esme makes her and decides not to go through with her plan to rub it in her ex’s face and instead to just date Esme.

They happily start dating. Paige feels guilty over how their relationship starts and eventually admits her original plan to Esme. Esme is hurt but knows that their relationship is too important to throw away. They stay together and start their HEA.

Characterization: Paige is portrayed as an introvert who is a bit awkward around new people. She seems sweet and loving other than her completely out of character plan at the start of the book. There is no way someone so caring would ever not realize how hurtful her plan was.

Esme is a bit of a mystery because we don’t get her POV. She seems to have had a longtime crush on Paige. She seems cool and aloof to the public but is open and honest with her inner circle.

Writing: This was written in first person perspective from Paige’s POV. I found a typo but overall this was well written. The premise didn’t quite make sense for how sweet of a character Paige was but the book still ended up being enjoyable.
