He’s a starting forward for the Devington University Devils hockey team.
And forward is definitely the right word for him.
Within fifteen minutes of meeting him, I’m out of my dress, out of my job, and out of any hope of a future career.
No, it wasn't what you think.
Heaven forbid I fall for someone like Evan that easily.
His solution is to set me up as his coach’s assistant.
Where I have to see his cocky grin almost every morning.
Where we continue our battle of wits.
Where I have absolutely no problem not fraternizing with the players—him in particular.
But Adam and Eve weren’t the only ones to fall for temptation.
And just like that ill-fated duo…our fall is about to be catastrophic.
Speak of the Devil is a New Adult, university hockey romance that is the second book of the Devington Devils Hockey Romance. While each book is a stand-alone, they are best read in order. 18+ Only
Good romance I enjoyed this second book of the series. Evan was a great hero. And June was sassy and a bit different than most heroines. I couldn't give this one a full five stars like book one as a couple of things irritated me. There was a number of big words, that I didn't know the meaning of and that pulled me out of the story. I couldn't see characters this age saying them. And also the underlining mystery plot with June seemed to go on forever, and then came out so quickly to be brushed over I had whiplash. I would've liked more focus on Evan and June to really feel their love. The epilogue was Woah, so much information and again that whiplash feeling that I've missed something. All in all, though, this was a good read. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series and more from Daphne in future. Once again Daphne Slade shot and gotten the puck in the next to score a winner with Speak of the Devil. For a newer published author her books are surprisingly well written as her stick hooks her readers from the first chapter to the very last page. June & Evan's sexy meet cute is somewhat hilarious but also steamy. The storyline is the perfect hat trick with humor, suspense & steam to keep the reader engaged and makes Speak of the Devil so easy to recommend and make it a definite add to my read again list. But, of course I at least feel I need to mention two recommendations for the author; slow down in the final few chapters, both book 1 and 2 were the perfect pace until the last 3-4 chapters which felt rushed and a link for a bonus epilogue giving your readers just a bit more into the couples future and their HEA would be amazing. Personally I would have loved a bit more swoonworthy 'feels' after reading June and Evan's story in Speak of the Devil. But, overall both books so far in this series have been amazing and a pucktastic surprise from a newly published author. And Daphne Slade, I hope you plan to add more books to the series A Devington Devils Hockey Romance with at least stories of Reid and Cole's HEA's if not more! Even though I did receive an advanced review copy of this book, I also purchased the book/read with Kindle Unlimited and am voluntarily leaving my own unsolicited opinion with my voluntary review.
Speak of the Devil is book #2 in the Devington Devils series by new-to-me author Daphne Slade. This is a college, sports romance that can be read as a standalone. The main characters in this story are June and Evan. June aspires to be a fixer, someone with all the connections and can fix any problem while Evan aspires to make in the NHL. After an awkward meet-cute, which sees June being fired from her job as a PA, Evan feels remorseful and helps her to get a job with his coach on his hockey team at Devington U. Witty and sassy banter is exchanged every time these two are near and you can feel the sexual tension between these two. What starts off as fun and flirty between these two soon becomes something more. With a no fraternization rule in place, will June and Evan adhere to those rules? This was a fun and swoon-worthy story. I loved the banter and connection between the two characters and the plot twist was surprising. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more Daphne Slade books in future.
Wow - this couple are "goals". I loved Evan and June so much. From the moment they meet, you can't help but love the banter between them and the rambling of June. She is so sweet, fun and determined in her goals. This hockey player is nothing you would expect considering his upbringing. When June losses her job Evan is there is help her get a new one. Now as the hockey team's coach's assistant they see each other everyday. The sparks these two throw could melt the ice in the arena. I can't say enough about this slow-burn. Devington Devils Hockey for the win!!!
I’m loving this series so far. This series shows that it’s not only blood that makes people family, it’s the unbreakable bond people share. We first met Evan in The Devil You Know and in my opinion there was just something about him that drew me in, and boy did I fall hard for. I can’t wait for more of this series!! 🖤❤️🔥🏒❤️🔥🖤
I enjoyed this YA hockey romance a lot. There is a sneaky opening scene, a touch of forbidden romance, a lot of delightful banter dripping with sexual tension, political intrigue and career dreams on the line....just perfect.

Evan and June met in the most fun way though she did lose her job. Feeling bad, Evan helps her find a new job as his coach’s assistant. However, they are warned that they are not to fraternize otherwise she could lose her position. June and Evan try to resist but are drawn to each other and sparks fly. Add in some scheming “parents”, teasing teammates, a loyal best friend and lots of drama, and I couldn’t put this book down! I thought it was fun and entertaining to read!
