Opposite worlds collide when a cold-hearted criminal reluctantly teams up with a Texas good ol’ boy in the search for a mysterious goat pendant.
Nothing goes as planned when Jade, a ruthless international thief, descends upon a tiny Texas town and soon finds herself pulled into the quirky and colorful lives of a motley crew of rednecks.
Masquerading as the girlfriend of a down-on-his luck local, Jade and her unlikely partner search the town for the elusive goat while trying to stay one step ahead of a suspicious sheriff, vengeful Russian mobster and slightly obsessed FBI agent.
Wildly entertaining and absurdly funny, Red Dirt Blues is a rollicking shark-out-of-water tale filled with humor, heart and a generous helping of Southern charm.
If you’re a fan of Carl Hiaasen and Christopher Moore, then you’re going to love this laugh-out-loud-funny crime thriller from David K. Wilson.

David K. Wilson grew up in East Texas, surrounded by enough colorful characters to fill the pages of hundreds of books. He has been an advertising copywriter and creative director, and is probably responsible for some of the junk mail you've received over the years.
He is also a seasoned ghostwriter and screenwriter. Currently, he lives in upstate New York, where he still complains about the cold every single winter.
David Wilson does not disappoint with his latest novel Red Dirt Blues. His characters, you can instantly relate to. The story unique, by the pairing of a beautiful international spy with the most unlikely of characters, a Texas redneck. Then add a Russian mobster, an FBI agent, and very colorful family. The quest…find the treasure a porcelain goat. I say this is a cross between the Beverly Hillbillies and Mission impossible. Great job David, I hope you continue with more novels set in Red Dirt Texas turning this into a series that will be loved by all.
I must admit I found the beginning of the story rather slow going but decided to stay with and yikes I am really glad I did. I would never have met Momma and her quirky family and friends, watched Jade deal with small town Americana and would've missed a most hysterical funeral service with a wild and wooly shoot out that followed. This was laugh out and snorting......and felt like it could have really happened. Thank you for a most enjoyable and colorful book!
As a fan of David K. Wilson’s Sam Lawson detective novels, I was excited to see him branching out with a stand-alone crime thriller.
Wilson’s new novel introduces a femme fatale who fearlessly takes on a Russian mafia boss and his henchman in this exciting and sexy caper. The colorful characters drive the story, while the temptress drives men crazy.
The townsfolk of the unlikely destination, sleepy Red Dirt, Texas, reveal themselves to have surprising gumption, fighting to survive the arrival of violent thugs and a crafty FBI agent, all on the trail of the mysterious and beautiful stranger, shaking up the dusty place.
The wild finish left me hoping for a new book series!
Loved this one just as much as David Wilson’s first books! He has a way with his characters that make you feel as if you know them! Anxiously awaiting the next book!
This reads like a Carl Hiassen or Tim Dorsey novel, especially the early ones: a good caper filled with eccentric characters and laugh-out-loud situations...and I don't say that lightly. Smartly, author Wilson anchors the tale with believable straight-men characters sot it never turns silly. Good job.
Yep, this one hit all the high marks. Awesome character development, realistic dialogue, superb editing, suspense, and even a touch of romance. Sort of romance, anyway. Once I started reading this story I knew I was in for a treat and boy was I ever. I will be keeping my eyes open for more from this writer. He is a true wordsmith with a knack for originality.
Had so many laughs reading this book. Loved all the characters, even the baddies. Cannot wait to read more by David Wilson. A great change from all the doom and gloom.
When I started reading Red Dirt Blues by David K. Wilson two things happened. The first thing was I couldn't put the book down but then I didn't want to get to the end. The second thing that happened was that I was reminded of the late Stuart Woods and the way he captured reader's attention immediately and you are powerless while the book is open. I am a huge fan of Stuart Woods and his books as well as a huge fan of Wilson. I have read three out of six (so far) of Wilson's Sam Lawson Mystery series and am hooked on the series but Red Dirt Blues is different. Not only is Red Dirt Blues a stand alone story, it has a storyline that is easy to follow and you may find yourself rooting for the bad guy, I mean gal.
In Red Dirt Blues Jade, who is hired thief travels to Red Dirt, Texas after killing the brother of the Russian mafia looking for a gem. Once there she finds the location of where the gem was delivered but she runs into a bunch of obstacles that she has to work through. The easiest way to look for the gem is to befriend a local who has an interesting family but they are preparing for a funeral.
Also on their way to Red Dirt is the brother that is the head of the Russian mafia and his two bodyguards .... and a FBI agent who is a desk agent looking for an adventure and has been following Jade's accolades for years.
Readers will love the back and forth that you get when Wilson switches viewpoints of the characters in the chapters allowing you a clear and captivating story from all of the people involved. This story is a face moving and fun read that you will love !!!

The story moved forward very well. Entertaining through and through. Laugh out loud settings and people. Seriously outrageous. Imagination gone wild. An enjoyable read!
