Cake That!

Rate this book
Ten competitors. Nine days. Only one winner.

Competing on the Cake That baking show is a dream come true for Livvy Miller, but debt on her cupcake truck and an expensive repair make her question if it's one she should chase. Her best friend, Tabitha, encourages Livvy to trust God to care for The Sugar Cube, win or lose.

Family is everything to Evan Jones. His parents always gave up their dreams so their children could achieve theirs. Winning Cake That will let him give back some of what they've sacrificed by allowing him to give them the trip they've always talked about but could never afford.

As the contestants live and bake together, more than the competition heats up. Livvy and Evan have a spark from the start, but they're in it to win. Neither needs the distraction of romance. Unwanted attention from Will, another competitor, complicates matters. Stir in strange occurrences to the daily baking assignments, and everyone wonders if a saboteur is in the mix.

With the distractions inside and outside the Cake That kitchen, will Livvy or Evan rise above the rest and claim the prize? Or does God have more in store for them then they first imagined?

Living faith, one story at a time.

My stories feature characters readers will love with stories that encourage living out faith every day, even when life gets messy.

Growing up as a reader of Christian fiction, these are the types of stories that captured my imagination and grew my faith. These are the stories I still want to read. I love opening a story for entertainment and leaving it inspired in some way.

While my stories are fiction, each one contains a little bit of me on the pages. It might be found in the setting, a hobby the character enjoys, or a struggle I've faced in my own life.

This book is so much fun! The author keeps you guessing who will win the cake competition, who will win the competitor's hearts, and who keeps messing things up. I seriously could not put this book down either time I read it because I had to turn the page to find out who leaves after each round. It's full of yummy-sounding cakes, too, which always makes me want to go make one myself. The main character is right up my alley, with her turquois striped hair, retro aprons, love of Glenn Miller, and vintage motorcycle. I just want to jump in the pages and stay awhile.

I received a free copy of this book, but the opinions are all my own.

This was such a deliciously sweet book!😍 I loved that the main character was modest and innocent even at 24. You barely see that in teenagers, let alone adults! I'm not used to contemporary books showcasing a STRONG woman character, who is also modest.

It also left me with a strong craving for cake 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

4.5! A fun and interesting read! Set in the middle of a cake competition, the story focuses on Livvy, a baker and food truck owner, and the other contestants on the show, including Evan, a cute baker from Texas. Someone might be sabotaging the contestants on the show and that tension added another layer to the plot. I also loved the way Greer incorporated prayer and her faith into Livvy’s everyday walk. Great read!

3.5 ⭐

¿Lo recomiendo? Sí. Es una linda historia 💞

Win or lose, I want to know she’s waiting for me at the end of this thing. So, I’m asking her, right now, if she’ll forgive me for being an idiot and let us start again.”

“Yes, I know what I said. And yes, I meant every word. I love you, Livvy, and no matter what happens tomorrow, I don’t want what we have to end.”

I truly enjoyed this book! It was well-written and kept you on the edge of your seat until the very end - who would win the baking contest? would love triumph? who was the guilty party to the sabotage? It was a "sweet" treat that had the right amount of ingredients - a dash of romance, a spoonful of suspense and a large helping of characters you won't forget. Warning: Reading this book may make you hungry for baked goods :)

I received a digital ARC of this book with no expectation in return. The opinions and comments above are mine alone.

I enjoyed this so much! I knew this was a good choice for me because I’m a sucker for a baking competition and I enjoy a good love story. Add to that the fact that it’s a Christian book, and you’ve got all the ingredients (pun intended) for a winner! I was disappointed to finish because I wasn’t ready for the story to end. I guess I just need to read another of Heather’s books!

Heather Greer makes her characters come to life and you find yourself rooting as if watching them on live TV.

Livvy is a spunky out-of-the-box baker determined to win but how can she if she falls for the competition. Besides the drama of all competitors living under one roof, the Cake That show seems to have a hint of sabotage, can Livvy even make it to the next day?

Who will win season two of Cake That? Pick up your copy today to find out.

Following Livvy in this contest was such a wild ride! In an effort to save her business, The Sugar Cube, Livvy takes her friends advice and sends in an entry. To her total surprise, she gets accepted to this reality-TV contest. Can she survive each round - and each elimination round - and win the $100,000 prize? Is there another prize worth winning? Join in the fun and read about Livvy, Evan, Will, Harper, and Nicolas in the Cake That! competition. This is my first full length novel to read by Heather Greer and I'm ready for the next!

Where do I start? I really loved this book. It is a clean romance. I am not gonna lie, sometimes it got me frustrated, angry, I felt the love of some of the characters, but mostly I felt the faith.

I love how the hardships of life sometimes makes us think we are not gonna make it, and sometimes it won't go how we imagined, but that doesn't mean we didn't win at life. Trust God and not fear.

I love how quirky and unique Livvy is. How God goes first in her life and everything else adds up. The creativity, the cakes and cupcakes, everything sounds so good.

Don't get me started on Evan. So so cute. I love his relationship with Livvy, which seems true and real. Just how life is, ups and downs.

from the other contestants, Nicholas is in my heart💙 even Will.

This was such a good book. Loved the twist and turns of the story. Couldn't imagine a better ending for it!

As a fan of baking shows (and cake!) I was excited to receive an advanced copy of Cake That! This is my first Heather Greer book and I was not disappointed. The characters were engaging and I wanted to hang out and create cake masterpieces with them. This book captured my attention so completely, it made me think I was capable of at least the cake part. Sadly, I am not. I loved everything about this book and I am hoping it's the beginning of a long and delicious series.

Enjoyable contemporary romance. Get the inside scoop on Cake That as you go behind the scenes at the baking competition with a $100,000 prize. The story is interesting, the characters are well-defined. I enjoyed following the interaction among the contestants, especially Livy and Evan. I wanted to keep reading to discover who wins and who's trying to sabotage the contest. The novel has a strong spiritual element as Livy tries to live out her faith before her fellow contestants as she does what she knows best--baking cakes. Evan is strong and sweet. They each have an admirable reason for wanting to win, but it seems God has something more in mind for them.

Oh this was such a adorable story.
I loved Livvy and Evan.
I am obsessed with cooking and baking shows and competitions so this was right up my alley.
I wish the story had went on longer but not sure how that would have worked because it ended really well.

I didn't quite know what to expect out of this book. I'm not Christian, so I knew going in that aspect was going to be focused on. To be honest, except in a few places, I didn't mind the Christian focus. What I did have issues with were how incredibly naive our main character was and when she finally told someone to back off and meant it, I applauded hoping that finally she'd realize "person is being mean to be mean." Nope, she reverted back to being naive. Also, though I've never been on a competition baking show I've read about them ... I cannot think of one show where the contestants don't have any time to prep an item in advance - even those on a certain show with baskets get 30 minutes to come up with something (not aired) before starting their culinary work. So that part I found a bit odd - though the baking wasn't actually the main focus of the book (I mean, the competition was the focus but it was really secondary to the story). Upon first reading, I thought this book was a cute idea and executed rather well. But I was hoping for a bit more baking, though I did like the bit about Oakland's ice cream (though I'm a titch more familiar with the Aussie dessert of the same name).

Cake That! is a fun book for lovers of the TV baking and cooking contests. It was interesting to read about what happens (or could happen) behind the scenes of one of those shows. The Christian undertone was also nice, especially put into perspective in a situation where people are competing against each other and could be tempted to be more aggressive towards their peers.
My only complaints are that (1) the suspense subplot thrown in seems a bit forced and not all that convincing and (2) there are a couple of places where the story seems to move way too slowly. This is why I'm rating Cake That! with only four stars instead of five.
Other than the above, it's a lovely, clean romance story with an original setting and if you love the genre, you shouldn't miss it.

Cake That! delivers a delightful blend of faith, frosting, and a dash of sabotage. Set against the backdrop of a televised baking competition, this story pulled me in with its fun, creative setting—even made me crave cake (and I'm not a cake person!). The characters were engaging and relatable, but also believable as real-deal bakers, not just actors in an apron.

The sabotage subplot added just the right touch of intrigue—like a special ingredient taking a signature recipe to the next level. But what I appreciated most was the faith thread gently reminding me not to allow stress, busyness, or circumstances swallow up my quiet time with God. Sweet and heartfelt with straight-from-the-oven warmth—this book was a joy to read!

Excellent read!

I have enjoyed reading this book. I have been blessed with Livvy, Nicholas and Evan's characters. And I detested Will's behaviour. I was kept in suspense throughout the climax. The ending left me feeling good. I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's work in the future.

Loved it! I

Each person in this book was depicted as someone you could like or really not like! Boy, some were played as real stinkers. Then, you had the others that you were drawn to. You'll see the struggles to do what's right in God's eyes, and you'll see the ones who just don't care.
Really good book!

Absolutely was great!

Cake That was a wonderful story about a "reality show" bake off...I enjoyed the bit of mystery with who was trying to play underhanded combined with the bit of romance ,and then finding out how it all came together in the end made me wanting a whole series from this author. ..a keeper in my library! ...brilliantly written!

In Cake That! Ms. Greer gives us a fun read, including a behind-the-scenes look at a reality cooking program. This Christian romance has intrigue and humor, both of which are welcome in romance novels to counter unrealistic expectations of romance. I highly recommend Cake That! for readers who enjoy Christian fiction.

Reality TV themed..

With a baking show, and filled with the drama of the real ones. While it was cute and I enjoyed hearing about the flavors and baking, it didn’t go much deeper than that to get to know them much.

This was my first book by this author. Loved it! Thoroughly enjoyed the baking competition, the characters--Livvie and Evan's love story was sweet with a cherry on top--the strong spiritual thread, and unusual ending. Sorry, no spoilers here. Nice job! Looking forward to reading more of her work.
