I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

That was quite a ride!

𝗔 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝘂𝗻𝘇𝗲𝗹 R𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴

This book is told by two different points of view Dimitri and Nine, which not only shows the present day, but also gives you insight into both of there past. It really added to the book and help understand the characters better as a whole.

I'm always surprised how unpredictable the characters are in Beena Khan books, and A Lock Of Death is no different. I thought I would never warm to Dimitri and yet some how this cold blooded killer grew on me. I don't even know when it happen but by the end of the book I was all in and on team Dimitri.

That being said it was Nine that really had me intrigued from the very beginning, she just seemed so different and out of place in this world I needed to know more about her story, not only what would happen to her after she was sold, but how she ended up in this world in the first place. I was not disappointed and found the chemistry between Dimitri and Nine off the charts loved it.

Happy Reading 😉📚📚📚📘📕📗📙📒📓📖📚

Beena Khan is a one click author of mine. Her stories are compelling and suck you in without letting go until the very end. There’s usually always a twist. This is loosely based on the Rapunzel fairy tale. The way it was done was brilliant. I’m impressed with how Beena manages to draw current stories while loosely basing them on a fairy tale.

𝗔 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗢𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 is the second book in the 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. We now get Dimitri Nikhaelov‘s story. Dimitri Nikhaelov is the younger brother and Second in Command to the Bratva Pakhan (leader), Alexander Nikhaelov, (who also happens to be my book boyfriend) younger brother. We met Alexander in book one, A Kiss Of Venom. This can be read as a complete stand-alone though. I do recommend the first book if you haven’t read it as it made me bawl my eyes out and is epic.

Dimitri Nikhaelov is not charismatic or well-groomed as his older brother. He’s wild, elusive, dark, cold, and quiet. A sociopath with dark cravings, his personality remains mysterious yet breaks through in small increments as he travels with his most recent mission, Nine.

Nine is a woman with a dark past, a very dark past. This book definitely has some triggers but they’re not described in detail as they are. Nine has had it hard growing up which led her to where she is, going on a mission with this man she finds both sexy and hard to stand. He is cruel yet I can definitely see the appeal as you sense he’s not being intentionally malicious.

I was on the edge of my seat not knowing how it would end. If you love dark, romance bratva/mafia books, this one’s for you. Beena definitely knows how to write a thriller that keeps you interested until the very end.

I am so grateful to have received an ARC and am leaving my review voluntarily.

The Black Widow series is a spin-off series of my original Beauty & The Beast series. This series focuses on the Bratva Brotherhood of New York.

This is the story of Dimitri Nikolaev, Alexander Nikolaev's brother. A complete standalone in the series. This book is darker, rawer, and brutal. It goes into the darkest areas of the mob. Dimitri is an intense character and he wasn’t easy to write. Nine and Dimitri are both bat shit crazy. Have fun!

TW: language, violence, abuse, assault, torture, gore, self-harm, mentions of abduction, drug use, human and drug trafficking, forced mule work, pill addiction, human slavery, spanking, and breath play.

’Her begging and her writhing in his arms only egged him on. He let out a soft grunt. Furrowing his eyebrows, he found what he was looking for, and his sharp teeth clenched on it before extracting it out and lifting his head at her.
Her red-rimmed blazing eyes met his. An ocean of emotions laid in her eyes, ones he could only recognize but never feel.
Nine stopped shaking and the middle of her eyebrows creased when she took in his bloody mouth… and the black tracker between his teeth.’

we love a couple who bites each other (him munching the tracker out of her was so characteristically hot)

“Four,” Dimitri whispered against my hair.
My sleepy eyes slowly opened.
Four? Did I still have balloons in my stomach?
Oh, God… I hate this shit.
Fuck this shit, for real.
I was retiring.
“Four times, I’ve almost lost you.”
Blue. He sounded just like my Blue now.
My breath hitched, and I wanted him to speak again.
“The first time when you threw yourself over the balcony.”
I closed my eyes.
“The second time when the sun came out.”
My heart pounded.
“The third when you burned yourself.”
Amusement filled his voice.
“And the fourth, today.”
My lower lip jutted out.
“I have never fought so hard to keep someone alive.”
My heart almost dropped to my stomach.
“You’re a pain in my ass.”
I pouted and sulked against his chest.
Now, that was mean.
I opened my eyes and waited for him to say something sweet again, but he pulled back from me.

i guess this was a rapunzel inspired story (character), except she choked the father w her braid here

overall, there were many scenes/monologues/convo i didnt like nor i think necessary but also equally as much parts i do like so its a 49-51 situation. nine & dmitri can be so sweet theyre my fav couple ever, then be cringey the next?? (it was confounding) also applies for the characters. prob just needed a better editing or smth but overall i liked

STORY
I liked Alexander’s story in book 1, but I enjoyed Dmitri’s. Again, as in book 1, this story caught my attention with the way it started. I like the storytelling, but for me, it’s the way Dimitri and Nine were presented to me. Dimitri was intense at times with his stoic presence. He is second in command in the Russian Mafia and the way he handles Nine had a mix of dark, excitement and interest. Nine was broken, but although she had to stay in this submissive state, she came off spicy as well, even if it’s just with her thoughts. Only thing, not too much on her backstory, she notes things which is ok but she comes across strong at times despite her past. This was dark and not sure if all will like it. I also like when the author goes dark because I enjoy the stories more. The theme of the story was Rapunzel. These themes are always entered at the beginning with not much longevity throughout the book.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Sex scenes were satisfactory. I liked the way they were together despite Nine’s past.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Interesting characters as we see familiar faces and new ones.

OVERALL:
I like the storytelling, it’s dark with triggers, not much on Nine’s past, Dimitri is intense but both characters mix well together for my liking.

✰✰TRIGGERS:

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

A Lock of Death is yet another incredible dark and raw story by one of my favorite authors that pulled at my heartstrings like no tomorrow and held on to me with a tight grip. It completely pulled me in making me never wanting it to end!

Dimitri and Nine have an epic love story that utterly captured my heart! The first interaction and everything leading up to the passion and love is astonishing. The tension between them wooh, it's literally fire. And the enemies to lovers journey is amazing. Like it's not even just angst anymore but something way darker and more intense, and I freaking adored it. The slow burn between Dimitri and Nine was absolutely KILLING me but I loved every single second of it.

Dimitri completely stole my heart, he is grumpy, quiet and might even be a little crazy haha but I would totally be lying if I said I wasn't completely in love with his darkness. Nine is a ray of sunshine despite of her tragic past but can also be so dangerous when she wants to be, what a badass queen!

I adore how this is not the typical story where she brings him into the light but instead joins him there. Darkness has already found its way into her soul and the way she has embraced it and continues to do so with him by her side is truly glorious! Also, Beena has ones again managed to have all the dark vibes while also having the characters be cute as heck together! It's seriously remarkable how you do it!

And ahh the rawness of this blew my mind even more than in A Kiss of Venom and I was completely rattled by that as well. This quickly became my favorite book by Beena and I can't wait for more!

"And if this is love, I'll own it and say I love you. Moya dusha. I don't need a soul when you're my soul."

*I received this ARC from the author but the thoughts are completely my own.*

I seriously don’t think this author could ever go wrong with her writing. A Lock of Death was phenomenal. A spin on a the classic fairy tale Rapunzel with a dark and dirty twist. Be still my beating heart I am in love!!! Nine and Dimitri were flipping meant for one another like two halves to make a whole. They complete one another whole heartedly and their story was an absolute stunner. The chemistry these two have is seriously scorching and the angst if off the charts.. Its that kind of slow burn that builds in your belly and moves to consume your whole body. Once again I was captivated from the beginning of page one until the end. Beena Khan doesn’t disappoint that’s for sure. 1000% you need to read this book. Fantastic!!

This is the story about Dimitri and Nine.
I've been looking forward to reading about Dimitri as he's featured in the previous Black Widow series books.
This is a retelling of Rapunzel but in a dark romance version.
Dimitri is soulless and shows and feels no emotion, he is the second man to Alexander the Pakhan to the Russian Mafia.
He is sent to transport Nine and the connection between is infallible.
Slow Burn / Angsty and gritty this book will have you devouring it.
Beena Khan is fast becoming one of my favourite authors of Dark Mafia.

I cannot get enough of Beena Khan’s stories! I am sitting here with goosebumps as I try to figure out how to convey just how great this story is! I absolutely love the retelling of Rapunzel in the mafia world! This is the story of Dimitri Nikolaev and Nine. Dimitri is the second in command to the Pakhan (Alexander Nikolaev) and is very dark, tough, unstable, mysterious and very confusing. Nine is a beautiful young woman who has had a sh***y life. She was raped starting at the age of 10 and taken away from her father. She was sold to a motorcycle club where she stayed for 10 years until Alexander showed up and ended up “rescuing” her. She was placed in a tower and was used as a drug mule – but he protected her from everything else.

When Dimitri and Nine meet, Nine believes that Dimitri could be her Knight in Shining Armor. Boy was she in for a rude awakening! Alexander had sold Nine to someone he thought would take care of her. However, as with most mafia dealings, the guy was not what Nine was expecting and of course he was anything but what Alexander had promised to her. This began a road trip for Dimitri and Nine. This road trip was not a typical trip – Dimitri has not emotions and rarely talks, He seems to be bi-polar – one minute he is a grade a jerk and the next minute he can be somewhat caring. Both Nine and Dmitri have their issues, they are both broken individuals who can both snap at the drop of a hat! This story has everything – lies, secrets, betrayal, violence, tragedy, understanding, darkness, crazy, and as usual, Beena brings awareness to human trafficking and women being used as drug mules. I am looking forward to the next book in this series and I will definitely be reading more from her! I received a free copy of this book via ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

🕷 DARK Mafia Romance
🕷 Rapunzel Retelling
🕷 Enemies to Lovers
🕷 Quiet Sociopath
🕷 Road Trip

Nine & Dimitri 💋😩🖤 Beena Khan has become my absolute favorite Mafia Dark Romance Author, the way she has written her Mafia Romances with the real life problems in the world and the way she points it out/acknowledges it in her writing. This Rapunzel retelling was EVERYTHING, Nine is one of eight girls living in a tower aka skyscraper. She is a mule for the Bravta under a GIANT IOU (I owe you) to Alexander- Pahkan from A Kiss of Venom.

Then we have Dimitri, he is Alexander’s brother, second in command and there bromance is heartfelt and amazing that I fell harder for this series. Dimitri is our antihero, Nine is our heroine who is his match made in heaven. Two of the same people LITERALLY.

“Nine is a special assignment. Be careful with her.” Alexander is cashing in his IOU but it’s in the best interest for Nine, or SOO they think. They way this retelling was written was absolutely tantalizing, intriguing and on your toes that kept me interested from the beginning.

“I have no body, no soul, no name, I’m Bratva.”
I loved Nine’s loyalty to the Bravta even though women can’t be in the Bravta and being a drug mule but the loyalty she had towards Alexander was interesting but also admirable reading.

This is SLOW BURN, tension filled, suspenseful, tantalizing AMAZING🔥🖤

A huge thank you to Beena Khan for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review and as part of her wonderful ARC team!

5🌟 5🌶

I’m always impressed by how Beena keeps on pushing the dark content in her books to the limit and how I tend to fall in love with them everytime! And just when I thought she has written her darkest book with A King of Beasts, this book takes the cake for me! This book is pure darkness with just specks of light along the way.

I’ve been captivated by Dimitri ever since I met him and I was so excited to finally see the extent of his brutality and cruelty in this book. The first chapter definitely started off with a bang (and a snap? 🤪) and took me by surprise! I already knew by then that I was gonna love him! I really enjoyed how I was constantly surprised by his actions and how he always pushes through with what he promises. There were moments when I had to reread scenes to see if he actually did what he did. Hands down, he’s one of my fave characters in this mafia world!

I also really loved Nine! Briefly meeting her in the past book and knowing I’ll get to know her more in this book got me so intrigued! Her backstory was heartbreaking to read so to see her go through more sh/t was both interesting and painful. Despite that, I liked how her creativity still brings out her true self and charming personality. She’s also brutal in her own way and I think that made her such a strong, memorable main lead! I also enjoyed the rapunzel retelling aspect of her story!

The slow burn romance between Nine and Dima was everything!!! From the moment they met, I was captivated by their burning chemistry and palpable sexual tension! I enjoyed their banter and verbal sparring so much! I honestly couldn’t stop reading knowing that they both had met their match!! They took the darkness to a whole other level and mix that with their chaotic insanity, it was disaster through and through! I fell in love with every bit of their imperfect relationship and towards the end, they further proved exactly how they were a match made in heaven! The smut was so deliciously written and there were scenes that I just can’t get out of my head!

Another thing I enjoyed in this book especially was the disability representation for both leads that were so essential to the story but weren’t made the source of conflict. It was interesting to see these explored in romance, more so, a dark mafia romance.

Overall, I loved this book so much as I always do with Beena’s books but this book and these characters specifically crawled their way to a special place in my heart! It was fast-paced, easy to love and oh so dark in the best ways! The end was bittersweet knowing how their stories end and the fact that I’m saying good bye to another amazing book but I will always love the never ending excitement for what comes next! I can’t wait for the next Black Widow book and for Salvi’s book!

I highly recommend this series if you love super steamy, swoony and angsty mafia romance with dark content that constantly pushes you out of your comfort zone!

This series in turning out to be one of my favorites. I always loved Mafia romance and adding to it these amazing fairytale retellings is the perfect combination in my opinion. Since I read A Kiss of Venom I have been really intrigued with Dimitri, the Pakhan's younger brother. When I discovered that A Lock of Death was going to be his book I was super excited and as usual Benna didn't disappoint.

One of my favorite things when it comes to this author is how amazing her heroines are. They are always so strong and badass, they fight for their own destiny and I really love that. And with Nine it was no different. She went through so much in her life, her story is truly heartbreaking but she never gave up. She fought for her freedom, sometimes in crazy ways but I really admire her.

Dimitri is the definition of a dark hero. He is closed off, jaded, merciless, scary and has barely any feelings. Don't go into this book expecting him to suddenly change because he wont and I love that. He is who he is and he doesn't give a fuck if you like him or not. When it comes to him, you really need to look in between the lines to find any kind of sweetness but if you search deep is there but only for Nine. His development through the story was amazing, she really messes with his protective side and brings a little softness into his life. He did make me really mad once or twice but that's just who he is.

This book is a really slow burn but it's totally worth it since those two have a lot of chemistry. It is a dark story and it deals with a lot of sensible subjects. It's not overly dark though, I feel like Beena always finds a great balance in all of her books. Dimitri and Nine are both insane and damaged but they fitted so well together. Their story was amazing, it had a lot of ups and down but it was so entertaining. Their banter was great and the HEA was beautiful. Beena is one of the best author when it comes to mafia in my opinion and I always look forward to see what she will come up with next.

ARC kindly provided for the author in exchange for han honest review

This is my favorite book by Beena Khan so far, its characters and story caught my attention from the beginning and everything got more complicated, interesting, dangerous and adorable as I read it. I really enjoyed the complexity of both main characters and the way Beena developed their story, I also think it was his best retelling so far, the way the story turned around "Rapunzel locked in the tower" just was perfect.

Nine is one of the main characters in this story, she's the girl who is locked in a skyscraper, one of the mules that the Bratva uses to deliver her merchandise, and she's never had an easy life, but everything is about to get even more complicated when it's sold to one of Alexander's partners ( A Kiss Of Venom ). Nine is a girl with a charming, kind and empathetic personality, she's also strong, brave and willing to put Dimitri in his place more than once, has an origin story that is more than interesting, mysterious and with quite raw details, but despite all the things that she had to face, she can still find beauty in the world, such as in the details that Dimitri has with her, or the moments in which that she can paint and express himself through his art.

Dimitri is in charge of taking Nine to his destination, is Alexander's younger brother and the second in command in the Bratva, is bloodthirsty, ruthless, rude, grumpy and very quiet. I think Dimitri is the more complicated of the two main characters, but I also think Benna did an excellent job explaining his personality and story, and, as with Alexander, he's a character who, in a real life situation I wouldn't like, but that in this book I fell in love from the first page, plus, the moments in which I was able to read the love that unites him with Alexander were the best.

I think the love story in this book is the most complicated that Beena Khan has written, because at least with Enzo ( A King of Beasts ) it was easier to realize when his actions were out of love, even if they were completely twisted. In Dimitri's case it's difficult to understand the reason for his behavior, even a little with Nine as well, but when both of them decide to entrust part of their past to the other, everything else makes much more sense. Even with all this, I really liked the relationship and dynamic that occurred between Nine & Dimitri, the way he tried to talk to her, his obvious concern and his desire to keep her safe, and although he makes mistakes, I'm very satisfied with the development of his story, although Nine broke my heart a little with his feelings for him and I couldn't help but stay in her side most of the time. Finally, I need to say that for me, this story was perfect, even the ending! Beena gave me everything I wanted for these two and I hope that in the extended epilogues at the end of this series we can see more of them, maybe a family reunion with Miran?

Suck a dark, dark read. This was a wonderful story. Although, there were some parts in it that were triggers for any reader who has a lot of them. Nine was a mule for the Bratva and she learns that Alexander sold her to a man. She has been through so much trauma and pain in her life and she finally thought that she would be free of that, then she finds out that she is to be sold. Dimitri, the second in command, comes to transport her. He is a dark, dark soul and enjoys violence. They both have an attraction to each other but Dimitri feels that he needs to stick with his obligations and deliver her to her new owner. This story was so dark with a lot of death and memories of past traumas to both characters. It was steamy and I am glad that if had a HEA because I fell in love with these two damaged characters. Can't wait to read the next book from this author. I received a review copy of this book from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

In "A Lock of Death", Beena Khan promises us a dark romance, an enemies to lovers Rapunzel retelling. What she doesn't tell us is that this book gets you addicted and then it emotionally wrecks you. I haven't been this touched by a book since reading "Morally Ambiguous" by Veronica Lancet.

While reading "A Lock of Death", I had one question on my mind. "How much can a heart break?" There wasn't one big plot twist. There were many, each one more gut-wrenching than the other. They came in waves, tearing you apart bit by bit. Beena has managed to surprise me, to amaze me. The relationship between the main characters is built slowly, yet with the ups and downs of a rollercoaster. But it is wonderfully crafted. I was no longer reading Dimitri and Nine's story. I was feeling it. I read "A Lock of Death" in one sitting, bawling my eyes every few chapters, then laughing out loud and crying again.

It's futile to tell you about the plot, about the characters. There are no words that can accurately describe just how good the story is, just how amazing the characters are. And like Dimitri prefers the silence, the actions over the words, I can only tell you this. Read the book. Feel their story. It is absolutely worth it.

Having read A Kiss of Venom I instantly started looking forward to this second book! I picked this one up as soon as i could and got back into the Black Widow world. I enjoyed this second installment!

Nine and Dimitri's journey isn't an easy one. I really liked how i felt so many things with these two and how i wasn't sure what all to expect in their story.

With A Lock of Death, Ms.Khan has created such a good read! I am so looking forward to picking up the third installment, A Web of Lies!

ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.🇺🇸

This book is part of the black widow series but you can read it like a standalone and it tell us the story of Nine and Dimitri, they begin a road trip to Mexico where it will be the last mission of our protagonist and along the way they through situations that change everything.

I have a bit of mixed feelings, I liked the book because as always Beena show us a realistic side of the mafia and I love that it's so raw, but my conflicts are with the protagonist so I will start with him:

Dimitri Nikhaelov is a complicated character and I couldn't empathize with him, he was so serious and quiet that I did not really feel a connection with him and I admit that he had bad attitudes with Nine that I did not like and I did not like the justification that was given, I can't say much because it would be a spoiler.
I liked that he in the end he helped Nine.

Nine my queen definitely deserves all the stars in the world because it's truly admirable that despite having such a tragic story she is still so full of life, courage and bravery. I love the way Beena wrote the theme of why she was locked in "the tower"*because it's a retelling of Rapunzel* and I also loved that Nine had a little "freedom" in her captivity and she could have those moments of happiness with her paintings.

In conclusion I liked it but not like I expected, if you want to read something realistic and dark this is definitely your book.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Lock of Death by Beena Khan is a dark mafia romance. It's the second book from the Black Widow series.

This story is about Dimitri Nikolaev, the Pakhan's brother and second in command in the Bratva Brotherhood. He was known as cold-blooded, barbaric, and inhuman. He was feared by everyone. Alexander had assigned him the deliverance of a girl who had been sold.
Nine worked like a mule for the Bratva last three years. She was locked in a skyscraper in New York City with eight other girls. Her life wasn't good but she was content until Dima came for her with the news. In two weeks she would be delivered to Boris Federov as his wife. Nine wasn't gonna be a slave to a man ever again, she would fight until her last breath in order to be free again.

This is a dark retelling of rapunzel. The plot is unique and captivating. The story is told by a dual pov, most of it is written in the present time but there are a few flashbacks from the past. I thought that A King of Beasts was the most twisted book by this author but I was very wrong. This one is pure darkness with flickers of light. There was a scene that was so disturbing a barely managed to
read that part. It literally gave me chills. Other than that I loved the deadly romance. Both characters were insane and they had a deep understanding of each other although they were very different. A match made in hell. My favorite parts were when Nine stood against Dima.

I highly recommend you to read this book only if you can handle a truly dark story. I loved it and I will rate it with 5 stars.

My Favorite lines:

1)I ran out of fucks to give now.

2)“My therapist called his therapist.”

3)The world needs monsters, so it creates them.”

Tropes:
• Mafia Romance
• Rapunzel Retelling
• Road Trip

Rating: 4 ⭐

I think one of the things I like the most in Beena's books is how creative she is when it comes to fairytales retelling. It amazes me how she captures the essence of these stories we already know and turn them into something new and dark. This is one of the things that makes her stories so unique and captivating.

In this book it wasn't different. She managed to write a Rapunzel retelling in such an interesting and different way. This is the story of two broken souls who fall in love for each other. It's darker than the others. Both Dimitri and Nine are very intense characters and I enjoyed reading their jorney. I love their banters and how they push each other to their limits. Overall it was a really nice reading.

THIS IS DEFINATELY MY FAVOURITE BOOK BY Beena Khan BY FAR. I couldn't get enough of Dima and Nine. I loved seeing Dima's development thought-out this book. Dimitri and Nine are such a power couple and I love it. Usually, I forget about what happens in a book a week or so after I read it but never with Beena's books. All of her books like rent-free in my mind, heart and soul. I always connect with all of her characters. This book consumed me, just like every other book she's ever written. I will never stop recommending her books. they are so freaking good. I loved getting to see all the layers of all her characters. Dimitri and Nine were special characters and it just makes me love them so much more. All of the characters in this series and in A Beauty So CruelA Beast So ColdA King of BeastsA Beauty So Cursed are written so well. they are all strong and damaged in their own way and I just can't get enough of them. Nine just makes me want to hug her. Everything about this book had me fully captured. Dima and Nine's relationship is built different and I absolutely love it. Oh my god, and the bond between Dima and Zander is everything! (that one scene from when they were younger has my heart). I honestly want a big family get-together. Vlad, Dahlia, Rosa, Kaya, Miran, Lada, Alexsander, Ghislaine, Dimitri and Nine. I want to see the wholesome family moments. (yes I know that idea is very far fetched...especially because we have no clue how Alexander and Dimitri would react with Vlad but I still want it.) I live for family and chosen family moments and this series (along with Beauty & Beast Series) delivered. I'm kind of rambling but I can't get these characters out of my head...and I don't want them to leave.

I am speechless. This book broke me into so many tiny pieces, them sawed me back together. I am completely torn and at the same time my mind in blown. What an amazing journey it was.
I was completely hooked from the very first page and I couldn't put the book down.

This book has it all, it’s constantly making your heart race, your blood pressure high of the charts, and by the end it’s leaving you wanting and demanding more.

A Lock of Death is a modern retailing of Rapunzel with a twist of mafia romance brimming with intrigue, vengeance, violence, suspense, and steam. Dark, intense and exhilarating, with strong characters, and action packed that will not let you catch your breath, this addictive book will have you on the edge of your seat.

From the very beginning, this book draws you in, hypnotizing you and also promising a good time, all of this making almost impossible to want to put the book down.

The writing is so good, the story is well detailed and action packed, and the characters are very well written. I loved that I got to see and read about such a strong heroine. Nine is amazing and I love her with all my heart. That girl’s life was an actually hell, she knows how cruel and ruthless men can be, she had been broken so many times, but still she hasn’t lost her will to survive, to escape and to live. After all that she still manages to find the power in her to smile. She isn’t a damsel in distress, no, she is her own knight in shinning armor. She is fearless, knows her worth and is perfectly capable of saving herself.

“𝘿𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙧𝙞 𝙉𝙞𝙠𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙚𝙫 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩.”

The villain in this story, because trust me when I say that he is definitely not Prince Charming, is ruthless, monster, dangerous and almost a true savage. He knows want wants and don’t have any problem destroying anybody who stays in his way. Dimitri, Blue, is the perfect killing machine, with no remorse and no weaknesses. And now he wants Nine and there is no turning back.

This story is one that will keep you on the edge of the seat throughout the entire book, leaving you gasping for air and needing more of these characters once you reach the end.
The suspense in these stories, the story-telling, the heat and the smut, the alpha male, that is definitely eye-candy, and his woman who constantly challenges him, all of this is so good and I loved getting lost in this book.

I am so excited for the next book in this series, and I am counting the days until I can get my hands on it.

I had the amazing pleasure and opportunity to receive an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“Your life is in my hands,” he growled, his words dark and vast like the ocean. “You only breathe for me. Every inhale and every exhale of yours leaves with my permission.”

• Rapunzel retelling
• dark mafia romance
• forbidden love
• Autistic/Sociopath Anti-Hero
• tw: sexual assault (of the h as a minor & adult) // drug use & trafficking

This story is not for the faint of heart. It’s themes are dark & our (anti)Hero is not a knight in shining armor. Your heart will hurt for Nine & break because of Dimitri but we will find our happy ending. ☁️✨

Please be advised that this review may contain spoilers!

Thank you, Beena, for this ARC. 💗

When Nine was a child she was taken from her father, assaulted & sold to a motorcycle club. From ages 10 to 20 she was used and abused until a rival came in guns blazing to take out the competition. Pakhan Alexander, took Nine in and offered her an life under his protection. This didn’t come without a cost, though… Nine began to work for the Russian mob as a drug mule.
One day, Nine is visited in her tower by the second in command & brother to the Pakhan, Dimitri, with news that she’s been sold and will be transported to her new owner. Alexander had arranged for Nine to be married to an associate in Mexico with promises of a better life… only her husband to be is a monster like she’s never encountered… he’s so vile! Hats off to Beena because i hated his guts.
Our poor girl Nine has hopes that maybe Dimitri will save her from her date but alas, that’s not the case. Dimitri will upset you, he’ll make you want to shake him & say “DO SOMETHING. HELP HER.” But the thing is Dimitri is a sociopath & he’s autistic so his way of dealing with things is through severe & violent impulses, and Beena does an amazing job of setting our Hero up as such. As much as it hurts, this is WHO he is. There is no helping that. And his loyalty to his brother & their cause is all he knows. But know this, once he claims Nine… nothing & no one stands in his way.
This isn’t your average love story but it’s one that’ll stick with you 🥺

A Lock of Death by Beena Khan
Published: October 1, 2021
B. Khan
I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Beena Khan is a storyteller based in NYC, where she brings dark fairytales and myths to life. She writes mafia crime romance, new adult, and edgy contemporary fiction that gives you a book hangover. Her books are painful, messy, dangerous, and raw. She has a master’s degree in Developmental Psychology and a minor in Arabic studies. She often explores the human psyche. She published her first book, The Name of Red, when she was 26.

“I wish you would keep me.”

Nine spends her days locked in a skyscraper and her nights acting as a drug mule. It isn’t glamorous, but she has the protection of the Pakhan has benefits. Until one night when the Pakhan tells Nine is being sold. Now, she is on a road trip with the younger brother of the Pakhan. A man who is dark and evil and ruthless. But she sees something in his eyes… and it sets her on fire.

This might be Beena’s darkest novel to date. But I loved the passion and the intensity. The darkness is so well written, and the fact that a bulk of the story takes place in a car is insane.

I weirdly loved Nine and Dimitri’s story. Their connection is raw and real. Their journey is intense and terrifying. But also filled with so much passionate emotion.

I also really enjoyed getting to know Nine. I love how her actual her name was revealed; that aspect gave me The Name of Red vibes. I love that Nine is such a bold, dangerous, and sassy character. And I love her flaws. They make her highly human.

The twisted telling of Rapunzel was so devastatingly beautiful. The characters were so well done. The storyline was deadly, and the twist was so well delivered. Beena Khan truly gets better with every novel she releases.

I cannot wait to see what terror she unleashes next!

Wow! Like all of Beena Khan’s books, A Lock of Death is extremely compelling, dark, gritty, addictive, and intoxicating. Beena takes mafia and organized crime and combines that with a fairytale retelling, then takes that and puts a completely different spin on it than most other fairytale retellings. She does this with utter perfection to give us the most insane and uniquely dark romance ever. I can’t get enough! Her characters grab you from the start with how complicated and dangerous they are. Each book is better than the last, and all of them will stick with you forever. I would say this story and Dimitri is her most unique and complex yet. Dimitri is a sociopath. He is quiet and calculating, with dark and cruel cravings he can’t seem to quench. He’s cruel yet appealing. Nine is beautiful, inside and out, with a heartbreaking past. She’s been through far too much and has the most precious soul. Strong and brave, she brings much needed light to his cold, dark world while joining in his insanity.

Thank you to Beena Khan, for gifting me this exciting ARC in exchange for an honest review. You have outdone yourself! I don’t know how you keep amazing me, but please keep it up! I can’t wait until the last few books are on audio!

5 stars for a slow and sexy burn!!

Besties besties I finished A Lock Of Death by @beenaxkhan

This is a Mafia retelling of Rapunzel

This book broke me in pieces and put me back together multiple times. I am mind blown by this book! This book was such a journey and I loved every minute of it. I was hooked as soon as I started reading this!

This book has everything you want in it. It made me get in my feelings, it made my blood pressure sky rocket, it made my heart race just amazing.

This book is a modern retelling of Rapunzel with a Mafia twist on it. It has the violence, suspense, twists and turns, and of course the steam. This book has the strong characters and it is action packed. It will have you addicted and you will be on the edge of your seat the entire time.

I can't even begin to tell you how good this book was! The writing is detailed and the characters were so well written! Nine is amazing and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love her! Her life was hell and she knows just how terrible and cruel men can be. She has been broken more times then she can count and she still kept a smile on her face.

The villain in the story and yes I mean Villain, he is definitely not your prince charming. He is a savage, a monster, he's dangerous. When he wants something he doesn't stop until he has it. Dimitri wants Nine and nothing will stop him or get in his way!

A Lock Of Death (Black Widow #2) - Beena Khan

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

::: SPOILER-FREE REVIEW :::

Rating: 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

OH MY GAHHHHH.

THIS BOOK DEFINITELY LIVED UP TO THE HYPE FOR ME.

ACTION. ADVENTURE. MADNESS.

(sorry not sorry for my not so professional review. ALL THE CAPS LOCK. ALL OF IT.)

After Sleeping Beauty, it was Rapunzel's time to shine.

I already apologize for this is going to be a vague review. It's only because I don't want to divulge any spoilers to ones that haven't gotten around to reading this.

I inhaled A Lock Of Death in one sitting. Sleep? Who needs it. Bah!

It's been eons since I've done that, but I had no choice. This story instantly drew me in.

I closed my kindle with a huge smile on my face in the wee hours of the night.
I went in blind and it was fresh, original, and very well-written.
I think you should go in blind like I did, but if you absolutely need a bit of info....

The story follows Nine. A young girl that Alexander rescued and in exchange she lost her freedom and was locked in a skyscraper with eight other girls. After 3 years Dimitri (Alexander 's brother) will deliver her to Mexico for her last assignment .

There was chasing. There was capturing. There were mind games. Epiphanies. Bloody mafia battles with guns blazing. And there was this sexy, powerful guy who is incapable of finding his way through the confusing labyrinth of his changing emotions that resulted in some off-the-charts sexy, possessive alpha behavior.

I could go on but you need to read the book to discover these things for yourself. I’m sure there’s something you’ll absolutely love too!!

I highly recommend this book to those who crave an un-put-downable mafia romance! Get your tissues ready, and enjoy the ride!
