I live on our farm in Queensland, Australia, and write a variety of books, many of them involve horses. I'm an English teacher with a Master's in Education and I've done freelance writing for Australian horse magazines for decades, and also wrote and reported for Horse Talk TV. I love writing books that take readers on an emotional journey - lots of laughs, love, tragedy, romance, adventure, twists, and turns, but no swearing and no graphic sex scenes.
I have many more books to write, so I hope if you read one, you'll read more, and enjoy the different characters and different stories that all deserve to live outside my mind.
Totally enjoyed book 2 of the series..recommend it highly! HOWEVER. the book made me a nervous wreck wondering what was going to happen with certain plot lines! prepare to binge read as you wont want to put it down!
Loved this book as well as “Muted”, the first in the series. It is always fun to read horse books where the characters are people you’d like to hang out with in real life.
I have read all of Leanne's books. Foolish me - I loved two series set in Australia and only realized today that my two favorite series had the same author!!!!!I
I highly recommended the Outback Rider series for readers of all ages and the Saving the Lost Horses for readers in their teens and upwards😊
This is the second book in this series that I have read and it didn't disappoint. It's so refreshing to have a strong story, with believable characters without it being padded out with explicit sex and bad language. I will be looking for more in this series.
Great adventure story with understanding the heart of a horse. Horse enthusiast will appreciate and recognize the communication horses offer about their experiences.

First, go read Muted...then read Rescued! You won't be disappointed! Leanne Owens has hit another one out of the park with this gripping novel of horses, humans, and the connection between them. You will experience elation, sorrow, and thrills with this story that follows a group of friends through the underbelly of an international horse rescue operation responsible for the deaths of thousands of missing horses. You will cheer the group on, through their investigation of the charity and it's connection to a huge web of deceit and lies that hide the money-hungry orchestrators.
I read the first book when it first appeared. I love horse books and was a little "put off" by this rather unusual story. The more I read, the deeper I got into the twists and turns. I highly recommend both books. Lots of mysteries going around in circles. It is very easy to be friends with the characters. Naming the horses rescued at the end almost made me cry. We have a rescue Shetland type pony in our small wooded acreage named Ruby. Thank you for these enjoyable, educational books
I absolutely fell in love with Muted. It was absolutely fantastic . It is now my favorite book I’ve ever read, so I was SO excited when I found it was a series. However, this book I was slightly disappointed with. It was a good book, but it took me until about almost halfway through the book to really get interested in it. I kept reading because Leanne Owens does a fantastic job with unexpected twists. She did not disappoint with that, but not until the second half of the book. Overall, it was a good book!
I enjoyed this book. I found this book very juvenile. It was like NANCY DREW or HARDY BOYS, but grown up. I really like that one of the main characters is deaf. I like learning about Australia. Its far very fetched that sll the characters are independently wealthy. It makes the story f!ow better with all characters being rich. But it is fiction. Fiction is more fun like to imagine when they can jump on a plane at a moments notice.
When you start to read a sequel of a book you loved, you hold your breath and hoping against hope it’s as goo as the first one. It was as amazingly as good as the first. As with the first, this book is one of the best I have read. The characters, the fight against greed and corruption and the making a difference even if it one small dent and be kind. Hope you enjoy it too.
Reading an awesome story line set in locations other than the usual US and Europe was exciting in itself. Add to that a gripping storyline and well rounded characters that I felt like I really got to know each one I wasn’t able to put it down. Looking forward to more Lane Dimity mysteries. As a horsewoman I found the insights and written words of “Lane” to be so true and so inspiring.
This story was as good if not better than the first book. I loved how Leanne centered the story on Tom and Vicki and then transitioned to Matt and Grace. Her descriptions of the horse's thought was so touching. I was so caught up in everyone that I couldn't put the book down. I was sad and happy, I cried and laughed. I'm totally in love with all the characters both human and animal. Loved this book
Anyone who luvs horses, or mysteries will adore this book! A little romance to sweet the pot. Where are all the horses who were given to the huge horse rescue group? Why are some of these horses ending up in other countries showing and jumping, ect, ect? And why is the rescue claiming that they never had those particular horses? Read this excellent book to find out. Highly recommended.
I can't continue with this series. The first one was a lackluster mix of horse story, weird medical thriller, and woo-woo fantasy nonsense. I thought the author just hadn't hit her stride and the second book would be better. Sadly, that's not happening. I can't take the multiple POVs - especially when they change mid-paragraph. I can't take the weak writing and odd cadence. Maybe it's just me, but these books are not my cup of tea.
Horse owner and lover here. But I think anyone would enjoy this book. I thought Muted was one of the best books I have read in a long time but this story was great too. I am hoping there will be more adventures to come for these characters because I hate to see these stories end.
Leanne Owens successfully writers another emotional horse story that's simultaneously too difficult to read and so compelling I swung between emotional overwhelm and reading breaks and turning the pages as quickly as possible to see how it all turns out.
After reading Muted I immediately downloaded Rescued. What a story ! I made sure I didn’t read any reviews so not to give away the plot line. Another excellent read !! Recommend to every horse lover out there !! Can’t wait for the next in this series …Hopefully there will be one 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I loved this book and didn’t want it to end. The horse people and horses captured my attention for many days and I didn’t want it to end. I’ve had horses in my life since I was 4 years old in a lead line class at a show. At 74, I still ride my chestnut trakener mare often. Thanks for this wonderful story.
This book has me from the first page. The story line was never predictable, but always kept me turning pages. I stayed up at night to finish a chapter and found myself reading on to finish several more. I loved the characters too, and look.forward to reading more books by this talented writer!
Horses sent to a rescue to live out their days in luxury are consigned to a internationally known retirement home that sends horses to other countries to teach kids how to ride and care for horses. Sounds ideal but gets corrupted. Well written and thought out. The twist at the end is a gut clenched. Excellent read
Seems I'm hooked! Have bought all three in the series This book better than the first as immediately plunged into the plot. As a rider heavily involved with horses nice to not be picking up author's mistakes. Can always tell if someone doesn't know what they're talking about.
Again, Leanne Owens has written a story that has horses, romance, danger and much more! A must read if you love horses and pray that these things don't happen. The main characters are sure to be your best friends as they , well I won't give it away. Read for yourself.
Loved this book. It followed Muted and I couldn’t put it down. Reading it is like reading about friends and their adventures. When people were hurt I had to know what happened; were they still alive? Cliff hangers abound but answers were revealed soon. Couldn’t put this book down. Awesome read!!
