Kate Benedict Mysteries, #1-6

Rate this book
Your next favorite British cozy…
but with a hint of the paranormal.

You’re going to fall in love with Kate Benedict. Kate’s a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed upstart architect who solves mysteries in lively London. But this seemingly run-of-the-mill traditional cozy lead has a superpower of sorts up her sleeve: she sees auras that swirl above people’s heads when they’re about to die. These mysterious, death-predicting omens are challenging—since no one ever believes Kate when she tries to warn them. And big-hearted Kate just can’t help but help them avoid the unthinkable—at all costs. Now available as a complete box set, this irresistible murder mystery series is a guaranteed addiction for international suspense armchair travelers, traditional cozy lovers, anglophiles, and anyone who likes their cozy female sleuths smart, savvy, and a tad psychic.

The Aura
Life spins out of control for Kate Benedict when she begins seeing a dancing aura above certain people’s heads that seems to signal death. Suddenly she’s psychic. But psychic’s not acceptable in her circle, where the supernatural is strictly for the superstitious. Yet…people close to her are dying. Kate's attempts to discuss her new-found metaphysical gift are met with eye rolls; she can’t even tell the Scotland Yard detective who's investigating the death of her close friend, Rebecca. And now Rebecca’s neighbor has an aura.

Double Blind
Two politicians have the death-predicting auras Kate can see. The only way to get to the two pols is via her old friend, DCI Clarke; yet her warnings go unheeded, and even her best friend, Anita, refuses to believe in the auras’ existence—even when one appears over her boss. And then Anita develops her own aura.

The Florentine Cypher
A quiet dinner date with an old friend turns into a manhunt when Kate arrives at the rendezvous just in time to find her friend Ethan disappearing into a taxi. Kate is alarmed to see the distinctive swirling pattern above his head. A series of cryptic text messages send Kate searching for Ethan at his sister’s house in Florence, but whatever danger threatened Ethan in London has followed Kate to Italy—his sister Claire has a matching aura!

The Scottish Connection
Kate is off to a glamorous weekend party in Scotland at the formerly grand castle belonging to the uncle of her boyfriend Josh. But the festive occasion turns solemn when Kate notices an aura above the head of Josh’s beloved Uncle Fergus. Thus is the scene set for a deliciously traditional British cozy with a touch of the paranormal thriller—complete with ghostly characters from the past; medieval weapons collection; a ruined, closed-off wing of the castle; a castleful of dodgy house guests, all wrapped up in mysterious Scottish gloom… warmed by a cozy library fire and a nearly priceless collection of single malt scotches.

Assignment in Amsterdam
It looks like a plum job for architect Kate Benedict—she’s been sent to Amsterdam to repurpose an ancient mansion, happily assigned to work with an old friend. But it's a catastrophe—nearly everyone involved has an aura. The team hears voices in empty rooms and discovers hidden passageways, and Kate knows the house conceals a secret. One that someone will kill to keep.

The Trouble at Turtle Beach
Harried, overworked architect Kate Benedict has no sooner stepped off the ferry to a tiny, remote island in Seychelles, primed to de-stress and celebrate at a destination wedding, than she spots imminent danger – auras spinning above the heads of two people on the dock. One’s a stranger, but the other’s the groom! Evidence is mounting that a murderer lurks amid the serene natural beauty. Until they can find the murderer, Kate and Josh have to keep the groom safe and fend off the worst wedding crasher ever – Death!

Very well done

Kate is an architect in London, who after the death of her mother and an incident that follows, finds herself with the ability to see when someone is going to die. She doesn't know the specific date or time or even how they'll die, but she knows that unless she does something to alter their fate, they will die. Whether it is in the next hour or the next week depends on the speed of the "aura" she sees floating above their head. When Kate g first started seeing the aura, she didn't know what it meant. Through a series of incidences, she finally pieces together what the image above their heads mean, but how to get them to believe her? Even her closest friends and family don't believe her at first. For those that Kate knows or interacts with in some capacity, she will do whatever it takes to alter their path in the hopes that she can use this "gift" to save a handful of people. It doesn't always pan out and the guilt nearly drives her crazy, but even the risks to herself doesn't stop her from trying.

I really enjoyed this series. It was written in a way that kept the mystery going and surprised me as to who the killer was more often than not.

Kate Benedict deseves a 12 srar for keeping me always on my toes and waiting for the next step she is bringing forth to delight me.

Kate Benedict has an aura that she has seen since her mothers death. This aura she sees has brought her more adventures and the support of her family and boyfriend. But it has also almost gotten her killed several times. You really need to read the stories to find the story behind the aura and the adventures you can join with her. Join us that have had a great time.

Love the boxed set of Kate Benedict mysteries

This is a boxed set of six books in the Kate Benedict series. Kate is an architect with a very special gift or curse. She can tell when a person is about to die when she sees an aura of swirling air above the head of the person. She doesn’t know how or why she has this vision, but she tries to keep that person from being killed. Love the books.

Enjoyable Series

I appreciated that this series did not have my pet peeves of using brand names as nouns, instant sex, horrific language and shallow people. The stories are interesting, and the auras keep the pressure on without car chases, gun fights and other cliches. They are not formulaic as so many books are these days. Even the villains appear real and are complex people. I look forward to more of her books.

Interesting Concept

Our protagonist Kate has a special talent that came to her after her mother’s death. When this talent presents itself, she feels compelled to take action when she can. This lands her in precarious situations as she tries to figure things out and save those around her.

Thoroughly enjoyed these!

I’m so glad I happened on this series! Her characters are likable and human; you get to know them and understand their quirks. I love the touch of paranormal; it adds an urgency to the story lines that I didn’t expect. The books don’t rely on profanity and graphic sex; the reader is hooked by the well thought out and fast paced plots. Highly recommended!!

Excellent reading. I read #1 - 3 then took a short break then read #4 - 6 and they seemed to just get better and better. Love the auras and visions Kate has although I don't think I would want to have them. Then love Josh and can see me reading more of Carrie Bedford books! You won't be sorry!

So very nice to read a book without blatant mistakes that take away from the pleasure of reading an interesting storyline. Thanks for the careful editing.

As I had just read the first novel separately, I skipped it in this version and went directly to the second story.

Double Blind (Finished Aug 13/2023)
Kate's friend Anita has an aura, as does another doctor at the hospital Anita works at. Through Anita, Kate is introduced to Simon Scott, a politician who is running for office. He has an aura. Will Kate be able to prevent the deaths that her visions foretell?

I quite enjoyed this one and found it hard to put down. Really hard to put down!

The Florentine Cypher (Finished Aug 19, 2023)

This is one of the first novels in the series where Josh, Kate's boyfriend doesn't appear as much. I rather liked that. Kate is going to meet up with her brother's friend when she sees him and an aura over his head. He's running off and then sends her cryptic messages. She ends up in Italy with Ethan's sister, an old frenemy from school, Claire. Claire also has an aura. Claire and Kate move around Florence and other parts of Italy looking for Ethan, and trying to avoid the bad guys. This might be the most complicated novel so far, but I really enjoyed it. I liked the look at ancient societies, Italian art and architecture and just a different way of life.

Very engrossing.

The Scottish Connection (finished August 26, 2023)

This story was great. It featured several things that I loved. Scotland, Scottish castles, murder, books and spooky happenings. Kate and her boyfriend Josh visit his uncle in Scotland for his birthday celebration. Unfortunately, someone is murdered, another dead body is discovered and there are mysteries galore.

This was a really good and intriguing story and I was kept guessing whodunnit until the end of the novel. These stories just seem to get better and better.

Assignment in Amsterdam (Finished September 2, 2023)

Kate's on assignment in Amsterdam, trying to renovate a house/office building with an old colleague/friend of hers. People that Kate meets, including her friend Sam have auras but it isn't until after the first two die that Kate and Sam and Alex start to put things together.

Well written and very enjoyable. I enjoyed learning about the building they were working on.

The Trouble at Turtle Beach (Finished September 11, 2023)

Kate and Josh have taken a few days off work to visit the Seychelles to attend the wedding of his friend Danny. Unfortunately, Danny has an aura.

Kate, Josh and Danny must search the island and examine evidence to discover what is about to happen to Danny and how to stop it. There's a lot of intrigue as well as a new hotel that might be built on the small island. It would provide jobs, but would it be too big for the island's water supply?

Many things happen in this story and it is a good read. I didn't have any idea whodunnit until the end and it kept me wanting to read more all the time.

Overall, I have really enjoyed these stories and will look out for more stories from Carrie Bedford. I love detective novels and the slight supernatural twist to these is an added bonus. Very enjoyable group of stories.
