what the hell is Isayama smoking 🤔

this manga. oh boy... wow. 🤯🥴

I don't care what haters say.
this manga is in its own way a masterpiece! (If you look past all its flaws)

The story is controversial, yes. But it's a freaking story!!
Stories are allowed to be controversial.

I personally believe it is brave of writers to make a protagonist into an antagonist - IF it is well written. And in my opinion, Isayama did it well with Eren's twisted worldview.

Yes, I know, that Eren's (or Ymir's?) actions are f*cked up, and nothing can redeem this genocide.
But despite that:
Isayama managed to portray the emotions of this war, of the rumbling, of humanity's devastation amazingly and beautifully. Those panels (especially in ch. 134) are a great work of art and at the same time extremely horrifying.
It's an amazing mixture.

The end is near, and I'm really excited for it.

I get it why so many people don't like how the story is going. I missed those first chapters, too that these kids just joined the military and we had so many questions and didn't know what's going on or what's beyond that wall. And we were just enjoying the friendship that was building up among these kids and how they were faceing the problems, and were finding their abilities, their values and uncovered some mysteries, but now Attack On Titan moved on soooo far from that, So many things happened, so many of our favorite characters died and so many more will die and we don't even recognize Eren anymore. I mean I know not many people liked him before as the protagonist, but he definitely became a complicated and interesting antagonist.
So I get it that Attack On Titan almost looks like something completely different from the beginning, but HOLY SHIT Isayama has some huge balls to do this to his story and he actually is doing it GOOOOOOD! I'm still enjoying every second of it, and I don't believe there will be a happy ending for many of our favorites, but I trust him that much to know it will be the right and perfect ending.

The script is just from another world.
You want war, there'll be casualties. You want peace, there'll be more casualties ...
1 volume left, let's see how this goes down.

Yeah, these chapters were just as intense in this reread 😅

- - -

Read these chapters some time ago but forgot to add it here 😂 These chapters were pretty darn intense and I'm heartbroken.

Also I can't believe this journey will be over soon. I've been a fan of both the anime and manga since 2016 and I'm not ready to say goodbye to it, like my life's gonna feel so empty. Next month the LAST chapter will be released (and boy was ch 138 intense and heartbreaking by I also laughed so much bc that's how I deal with emotions when it comes to Attack on Titan), but I still have the anime a while more. But when both is over my life gonna be so empty.

I’m in pain… my second favorite character in the entire series just died and I thought I was prepared because I saw a spoiler so I knew it was coming but it was revealed that they had a crush on someone right before they died. I am not okay. I’m trying to stop myself from crying right now but I’m so close to breaking down. Hajime Isayama is really good at ripping my heart to shreds. 😭

The final battle is imminent and we lose someone very dear in preparation to the confrontation that will decide everything
To hold freedom in my hands I must take freedom from the rest of the world

This feels like the manga equivalent of The Dark Knight scene, where the Joker asks the Gotham citizens to reflect on what kind of values they really espouse and who should live and die according to those values.
What is freedom and who deserves to live and die?

Humanity are as lemmings being driven of from cliffs by the advancing titans, we lose one of my favorite characters and everything seems to revolve around Armin, Mikasa and Eren. The world their friendship grew up in is different to what they live through now, necessitating choices to be made.

4/2: one more week till the final chapter is dropped. no words can describe the emptiness i feel.

1/28: i am physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. i can't take this anymore. it's not fair these characters/storylines can have this much control over my life.

12/25: i don't know why i keep repeatedly choosing to hurt myself by reading this series again and again. i'm numb from my endless love and the story's never ending pain.

11/6: it honestly pains me that to know this series will *most likely* not receive a happy ending.

With the amount of things happening and people dying and just knowing that the series is ending in a couple of months but not knowing how. It makes every panel feel so much more intense.

“I’m asking you one more question you’re not going to like. What about you is free? And you can answer me once we drag you out of there.

Aaaand, we're right back to the pain, misery, and distress that are too familiar by now in this manga.

There are so many incredibly cool moments in this volume that just had me on the edge of my seat, cheering and smiling like crazy because it is everything that I wanted and more and it feels my heart of excitement if nothing else.

Which is nice, considering that most of the volume broke my heart into tiny, little pieces that I can hardly recognize any longer. Chapter 132 is a moment I definitely did not want to see at all. Ever. I love it so much because of it.

It is, I think, exactly what the volume before-the-last should be and sets the tone quite nicely for what is to come.

“I’d like to ask all of you… to make the same vow. That you are done with this age of mutual hatred. And that you will usher in a world where we show consideration to one another. That here… is where we say goodbye to our own monsters.”

One thing I've always really liked is how Isayama doesn't shy away from difficult and complex subjects that will probably still be a bit too much to tackle. That he goes for it and it makes me think and reflect upon it. That nothing is simple or straightforward because that is how life is, at the end of the day.

We see a lot of it in this volume.

A lot happens and the action just keeps ramping up, but we also have time to slow down and sit and reflect more honestly on several things. We got a bit of that on the previous volume but now it just went a little deeper since we had more time for it.

More than that, we got to see the other's side outlook on some of the things that are going on right now which adds a lot to the narrative of the whole story.

“Do you think they’re all watching us? Will we be able to stand tall among all our dead comrades?”

With the darker and creepier tones that we have, it's nice to know that we are so close to the ending and finally see how this all turns out.

Especially, because these last couple of chapters have been adding some details that affect the entirety of the story and I love them so much.

Above all else, if even possible, this volume made my love for the Shingeki No Kyojin world grow and deepen. And I honestly didn't think that was possible.

“… I still want to believe… that there’s a world we don’t know about yet out there past the walls.”

I get it now why everyone said that no one can hate the manga more intensely than the readers themselves. I am having a love/hate relationship with the manga because of what is happening. I really miss the old days where they were all just trainees and trying to find out information about the titans. I never expected this manga to turn out like this.

My fragile heart is breaking, and soon will be crushed as more favorites will die in the near future. The scene with my baby, Hange. I cried. I love her so much that seeing her sacrifice her life to give the squad more time to fly the plane.

It also crushes my spirit to see the people all around the world get stomped on by thousands of colossal titan with nowhere to escape. If that were to happen in real life I would lose all of my hope for survival.

Knowing now that Eren chose that path in his own free will made me understand him a bit more. He was driven by so much hatred and betrayal that he chose genocide just to protect his people. His interactions with the Marleyans, the pickpocket kid, how he apologized... I thought that could change his mind but how stupid of me to expect that would change something if the Rumbling was already happening.

The realization that these people who called the Paradisians as the “Devils” and now that the rumbling was finally happening to them, they sacrificed their lives as a symbol for peace and an end for war.

The story itself was woven by Isayama in a tragically beautiful way because it made us love and hate and at the same time empathize with these characters. My only problem with the story or the plot is that the people were fighting each other in the past volumes and now they allied themselves together to stop the protagonist who recently turned into an antagonist.

As it was hard for me to read the dialogues of them trying to stop Eren, I couldn't help but cheer for them and mourn at the same time because it will be the end of Eren Yeager. The only way to stop him is to end him and he knows that.

The art work though, and the character designs were *chef's kisses* scrumptious. My eyes!! My eyes!! They do be twinkling with delight.

Just like what Hange said, “I want to go out with a bang.” This manga also ended my 2020 with a bang. Amidst all the suffering that I went through in real life and during the time I was reading this.. I wanted to thank myself for deciding to finally read this. And I wanted to thank Isayama for ruining me for life and for making my adventure with these characters more painful and sometimes enjoyble.. I would never forget this month of agony.

What a volume as we flare back into Eren's past when he was in the outside world and had already decided on Mass Genocide and he meets this boy and apologizes to him for whats gonna come and in the present that same boy is crushed by the titans, the titans are killing everyone and somewhere else Zoe gives her life so that her comrades can escape, a quick convo with eren in the titans zone and its the final straw as Eren declares he won't take the freedom of his friends and the only way for them to stop him is by killing him and in the present we see the last airship attacks but even they aren't enough to defeat Eren, tensions are high but the resistance of Reinier and all come here to fight Eren for one final battle! What a volume, just wow, so much tension and all but still the final fight will happen and its so perfectly laid out, morality vs friendship , everything on stake and Eren right in the middle of it! The writing is next level but so is the artwork just wow! Probably one of the best mangas of all time!
