Soul Stones #7

The Eagle Soul

Rate this book
Everything changed the day a faerie fell into my tomatoes.

I thought I had my life planned out. My farm was prosperous, and I was on the verge of proposing to my childhood sweetheart. I'd have a family. A normal life. And then the Eagle Lord crashed into my crops—a giant bird with a broken wing. I foolishly tried to save him from the monster who was stalking him, and he repaid me by giving me immortality. Sounds good, doesn't it? Except immortality isn't free, even when it's a gift. Taryn Savagas wants me to fight beside him. To give up everything I have and everything I am to be his valorian. A weapon to end the Farungal War. No, thank you; I'd rather fight a drought than the Farungal. Even the searing hot passion that ignited between us—forbidden desire that I've denied my entire life—can't sway me. Sex isn't worth dying for. But the Eagle Lord has the stubbornness of a mule and the attitude of an ass. To secure me as his valorian, he'll do anything, even jeopardize the bond that's been forged between us. All he cares about is ending this war, and if I continue down this path with him, I have a horrible feeling that my heart will become collateral damage.

Because why have normal when you could have paranormal?
Born and raised in Hawaii, Amy made a perilous journey across the ocean with six cats to settle in the beautiful state of Oregon which reminds her a lot of Hawaii but without the cockroaches or evil sand. When she isn't trying to type fast enough to get down everything the voices in her head are saying while her kitties try to sabotage her with cuteness, she enjoys painting on canvases, walls, and anything else that will sit still long enough for the paint to dry. She prefers antiques to modern furniture, tea to coffee, night to day, and Tom Hardy to Tom Hiddleston. No; Tom Hiddleston to Tom Hardy. No, wait... Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston to Tom Cruise. Yes, that's it.

Worst in the series

I like soulmates. I like hate to love. But this felt as if the writer made thae charecters act as worse as possible to each other (mainly the bird guy) and use the fact that they are "soulmates" as an excuse to get them together.

I stoped readin around 20%.

Also sorry for any mistakes I have made, English isn't my first language.

I wanted so much more from this book

This was not my favorite pairing, though it’s ironic that I bought and read all of the books in this series because I found the blurb for this book to be interesting.

Taryn was cruel and showed every bigoted, arrogant, and belittling emotion toward Aiden, and yet we’re supposed to believe that his soul is pure and that he’s a good man suffering from past anguish. This is not someone who has healthy coping mechanisms, and he needs to serious help to get anywhere near healthy.

Aiden was irrationally proud and consistently kicked against the pricks for no other reason than that he can. Why wouldn’t Cassefir have counseled Aiden to travel to the Eagle royal city? Why didn’t Aiden think of it, since he knew he was now Valorian and that he would receive training there.

I thought that Aiden harnessed his magic far too easily, even for a Valorian, and it made his accomplishment less impressive.

I was like your other readers at first, not being fond of this story but I had the opposite opinion--I think that Aidan was as much to blame as Taryn for much of the troubles that they couple had. I could not understand how two people who had seen each other's souls could go so off the rails in their relationship. But when Aidan came to the Lion camp and met Kaelan, the lion lord was when the real book started. From then the book became exciting and action packed and I so enjoyed it. Aidan and Taryn became a great couple and I loved the ending.

I continue to love this series so much. The majority of series get repetitive by book 5 but not this one, I love the different relationship angst that these couples go through. I loved the whole kidnapping scenario and the drama that came of it, although Aiden bugged me at times. He asked for restrains, was proud AF and wouldn t give an inch but put all the blame on his mate. I understood where he was coming from but at some point he was annoying and too stubborn. That said they found their way and I live for all the hurt/comfort angsty relationship vibe.

Trigger warnings, kidnapping and nonconsensual sex
So, after three kind and respectful warlords, we have to have one that's bastard enough to make up for it. Taryn started bad, then got worse and dug his pit deeper and deeper. At least his actions were seen as reprehensible by everyone, unlike with Thorne and the leopard lord whose bad actions were brushed off when they shouldn't have been. And while Taryn redeems himself in Aidan's eyes, I still dislike him so much! Why?!
Other than the horrid main romantic interest, the book was fine.

RIP Reader

Okay.
A LOT happens in this story but if you enjoyed the previous books, keep reading. The ending is very satisfying.
If you hate what the eagle warlord does to his valorian, just wait till you see what the valorian does to the warlord. It’s beautiful.

The farmer is a broken survivor.
The warlord is a drowning elf.
The goddess was right.

Definitely not my favorite in the series. I am all for angst, but I felt how it was portrayed, backfired. While what Taryn did towards Aidan is inexcusable, so is how Aidan manipulated Taryn, to a point I could somewhat understand, but then I felt it turned into a form of emotional abuse. Just my opinion.

It was so disturbing, I wondered if the characters went crazy.
Because I really have no other explanation for what went on in this book.
It started well and deteriorated so fast that at some point I thought I was reading something else.

And we're back to another warlord who treated his valorian terribly. At least he was made to properly feel repentant and showed real growth this time. I did think that Aiden drew out the revenge a bit too long though.

The stories are different, but somehow it starting to feel redundant… I still like the overall story, and I look forward to know what is going to happen, but maybe I need a break from it...

Worst in the series by far. I could not get past the actions of the eagle warlord and it ruined the whole book for me. Never bought into the redemption and the hea.

Great addition to the series!

When I first started this series, There is a bit of repetitiveness as the Valorians are usually made the same way, or in similar circumstances. There's a bit of adjustment, then they accept it and everyone moves forward.
I was concerned at the time that it would be hard to keep each book fresh, but I clearly underestimated Amy Sumida, as each successive book has exceeded my expectations! I can't wait for the next one!!
