A man is mysteriously swept over Niagara Falls. The city of Niagara Falls, nicknamed The Power City, finds itself in the shadow of a new power broker, the Catalano organization. This resurgent mafia family’s rise to power leaves a trail of death and corruption in its wake. Navy SEAL Joe O’Shanick is their next target for execution, but the sinister reach of the Catalano organization extends beyond O’Shanick to his family and physician friend, Dr. Christy Tabrizi; however, this criminal organization forgot one thing: Navy SEALs leave no man behind. Power City explores the dark world of organized crime while weaving a story of faith and the selfless love of one’s family and friends in a roller coaster ride of crime, medicine, military action, and suspense.
John Galt Robinson is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician. He weaves his experiences from the exciting, tragic and sometimes humorous world of emergency medicine into a much larger story with intriguing characters who tackle relevant social issues in a fast paced adventure. John grew up on Grand Island, NY just upriver from Niagara Falls. John earned his medical degree at East Tennessee State University after a previous career in Sports Medicine as a Certified Athletic Trainer. He lives in South Carolina with his wife and family where he is an active sailor and triathlete.
I recently discovered John Galt Robinson's books. Power City is the second book about Christy and Joe. I was hoping it would be as good as Forces Of Redemption, and it was. I really enjoyed the setting of Niagara Falls as I have been there several times. The story kept me on the edge of my sea! I love Christy, Joe, and all of their friends and family. I am looking forward to reading the next book Lost Angels. Robinson is rapidly becoming a must read author for me.
So grab your favorite beverage and settle in for a fantastic adventure!
I borrowed this book through Kindle Unlimited. All thoughts are my own.
I love this author's perspective, it's so refreshing. I can't wait to read the next story in the series! The story flows at a good pace, and you can't help but love the characters.
From the opening chapters to the very end this book grabs your attention and doesn't let you go. It also has me wondering about my whole life and why I've shunned religion. I have always felt that as a child I had it shoved down my throat from weekend bible classes to Thursday CCD where I was always in trouble for just being a kid. I see what is going on in the world right now and can't help but think I may be missing something with all the negativity out there. So I'm getting the next book in the series and see what feelings that will bring up. Good work Mr Robinson.
I enjoy this series. The books are not numbered that I have seen so I looked at the publishing date to stay in order. Just an FYI for future readers as the books need to be read in order.
Power City is an action & adventure thriller novel written by the author John Galt Robinson, published in June 2021. The story takes place in Niagara Falls, also known as the Power City. A man is swept over Niagara Falls in a strange way. The Catalano organization is a new power broker that has cast a shadow over Niagara Falls. This resurgent mafia family's ascent to control leaves a path of death and defilement afterward. Naval force SEAL Joe O'Shanick is their next focus for execution, however the evil reach of the Catalano association stretches out past O'Shanick to his family and doctor companion, Dr. Christy Tabrizi; However, one thing was overlooked by this criminal organization: Naval force SEALs abandon no man. In a roller coaster ride of crime, medicine, military action, and suspense, Power City explores the sinister world of organized crime while weaving a story of faith and the selfless love of one's family and friends. This series' first book was excellent. This book is a lot quicker paced and, surprisingly, more sensational than the main book, and is potentially shockingly better, however entirely unexpected than the Forces of Redemption. In Power City, the majority of the story happens at Joe's home. We get to know his family better, and his group is all working in New York rather than the wildernesses on the opposite side of the world, as in Forces of Redemption. Another advantage of this book is that the author took more time to flesh out the characters and made the reader, or at least this reader, more invested in them. The writer works really hard structure anticipation and getting the peruser put resources into the existences of the characters. I love anticipation, and the creator truly sloped that up in this book. Check out this series if you enjoy good Christian fiction with special operations and suspense. It is great. Highly recommended from my side.
This is only the second book I have read by this author, but he has become one I want to keep up with. The first book in this series was really good. This book is much faster paced and even more suspenseful than the first book, and is possibly even better, though totally different than the Forces of Redemption.
In Power City, most of the story takes place at Joe's home. We get to know all of his family better, and his team is at work in New York instead of the jungles on the other side of the world, as in Forces of Redemption.
And another plus of this book, is the author had more time for character development and the reader - at least this reader - got more attached to the characters.
I love suspense, and the author really ramped that up in this novel. There were a few times that if I was a female, I would have let out a squeal. Since I am a male, I didn't do that...but may have made some sort of noise. :)
I don't think I have ever run across a more underrated author. And I don't mean that as a slight. I try not to exaggerate, but if I really love a book and am impressed, I will say so. And I am saying so. I have read two books by this author, and don't get why the first book only has 69 reviews on Amazon, and this one only has 31. (Well, mine will make 32).
Seriously. If you like quality Christian fiction that has suspense and special ops stuff, check out this series. It is really good.
While the number of times and manner the hero escapes death defy inagination, those of real life Seals often do as well. Their real life escapes just aren’t quite as scenic as a trip over Niagara Falls or the dramatic seconds from death at the end. What keeps the reader in the story is the depth of the characters and their relationships. You can’t help but cheer for Joe and Christy to make it.
As a child, I spent my summers with my grandparents outside Lockport NY. If the rest of the story had not already captivated me, the accurate descriptions of Buffalo and Niagara Falls would have.
Nailbiting and full of action centered around the amazing Niagara Falls and the communities that surround it. Our hero, Joe O' Shaugnessy and his family are at the center of the story and you will be pulled in to real and loving family life where each member of the family plays his or her part. Our heroine, Christy, shares her love of Christ and triumphs as she wins battle after battle. The medical dramas may be a bit too specific for some, but you will end the book with a lot more knowledge about what our ER doctors are facing every day.
Another winner from our good friend John Robinson. He continues the storyline introduced in the first book with our two main characters as they find themselves again in the midst of danger and evil. He continues his themes of the horrors of human trafficking, drug abuse, dirty politics and the powerful but pathetic men behind all the suffering. The gospel continues to be clearly presented but within the context and dialogue of what is going on in the story. I cannot wait to see what the next book will bring for our heroes.
I enjoyed this fast paced book. The characters come to life and I can’t wait to read more about them. It’s up to date with what’s happening with drug cartels and sex trafficking. The author researched this topic well. In addition, the medical issues with the characters in this book is spot on. The religious aspects are refreshing as well as the lack of cursing.
