Yikes, this needed an editor. The book is riddled with grammar, punctuation, and basic English language errors. About every other page I found myself having to read over a sentence two or three times to figure out what Grid was trying to say. Here is an example paragraph from p. 19:
"So in the case of our iPod example, if you tried to use a GUI-based computer to transfer your songs, it wouldn't be able to tell which songs you wanted to move. And if you tried to say an older computer based on text commands what type of file is stored on your hard drive, it would not figure out how you want it to operate. The critical point here is that code can only go to understand the text you typed in."
There are also moments where Grid writes things like "in the above example" ... and there is no example above. He finally defines "variable" in chapter 10 after using the term repeatedly in chapter 5. He refers to chapters as "posts", which makes me think that this was originally a blog that he threw into book format and self-published without hitting pause and doing some copy-editing.

Altogether these errors make it very difficult to follow what Grid is trying to teach.

Learn about, coding, Java, the functions of python and protect your data from hackers. You will learn what pytho is. Security is a BIG. ISSUE. Learn how to secure your data. . Very useful information in this book in protecting your data. I took a course both the it moved to fast for me. These books are helping fill in the blanks and hopefully land a new job. Great set for beginners. I just needed more detailed instruction that I could follow at my own pace. Thank you Alan Grid.
