Jesus doesn’t want passive followers. He wants you to pursue Him, to seek understanding, to pray for more faith, to know and hold fast to what is true and reject what isn’t, to obey God’s Word, and to persevere through hard things. Of which there will be many.
In The Chosen Book Three, you will discover Jesus’ followers being changed by His power, authority, and love. Written to accompany the hit multi-season series, each of these forty devotions contains a Scripture, a unique look into a Gospel story, suggestions for prayer, and questions that lead you further in your relationship with Christ.
You can’t stay in the boat and walk on the water. So, get out of the boat! Because when you’re out of your depth, wholly depending on God, awesome things happen like seas parting, and giants falling, and lions purring, and armies resurrecting, and Jesus being glorified through the lives of those who are willing to follow Him wherever He goes.
Amanda Jenkins, before life as a homemaker and mother of four, worked in sales and marketing for a number of Christian retailers, as well as in visual communications and advertising. She spent ten years in L.A. alongside her film-making husband, surrounded by plastic surgery and high-falutin’ lifestyles, which is where she became convicted and inspired to write about her struggle with perfectionism. Amanda attended Northwestern Bible College and graduated with a degree in Biblical Studies and Communications. She has taught Bible studies for women of all ages for the past 14 years, and is passionate about communicating truth in a culturally relevant and humorous way. Today, she lives just outside of Chicago with her husband, Dallas, and their four young children, including their newly adopted son. She is also the daughter-in-law of Jerry B. Jenkins.
This is the third Chosen 40-day devotional book. I have read them all and this one may be the best. If you have read the other two you know the format used. Each daily entry starts out with God's word, followed by 2-3 pages of commentary, a prayer, and finally questions that incorporate the Bible reading.
I am always on the lookout for a good daily devotional because I think that they are a great way to start my day. This is one of the good ones.
I've really enjoyed all of the "40 Days with Jesus" books I've read and this one is no different. I loved the chapters on the Sermon on the Mount as well as the ones about Love. The readings aren't long, but they give you a little something to ponder. The commentaries are good about making connections to prophecies and other events in scripture, and I like the prayer suggestions. I have a few quibbles on things here and there, but most of this is wonderful, so I can recommend it as long as you make sure to remember that the opinions included might not be accurate so some discernment is necessary.
This third Chosen devotional book is equally as good as the first two which also delve deeply into the scriptures… I’ve read the first two several times and every time, the Holy Spirit takes me deeper into understanding the true nature of Christ. I love the series and look forward to purchasing the next addition. (Having watched the first two seasons of The Chosen, I often connect the actors faces and their demeanour with the various Bible characters.) Thank you all for the time, energy and persistence in producing these 40 Day Devotionals.
Amanda Jenkins continues to put out very good devotionals that match up with The Chosen TV series. Note that you do not have to watch the series to find the devotionals of service and help as they lead you deeper into the Bible, Christ's life, and His impact on the world. Great for anyone who wants to develop a deeper understanding of and a closer relationship with God.
Started off great. Authors gave me some things to think about/research and then….off the rails it went. From about day 28 on, the stories were not interesting/captivating and the questions were fairly useless.
I’ve loved reading the devotionals in this series. Each lesson has me thinking about something new in stories I’ve known, studied, and taught for 50 years.
I love these devotionals. The authors make Scripture come alive and pull applications both in the daily reading and in the questions. Going through them with a friend has helped me too. I am looking forward to number four.
Again, the authors have created another outstanding devotional! Thought provoking daily devotionals that open up the Word of God beautifully and applicable to us today. I highly recommend these devotional books!! I re-read them every year!!
These devotionals have a way of drawing the reader closer to Christ. After each devotional, there’s a prayer focus and three either questions or activities to help you to move forward in your walk with Christ.
Best of the chosen devotionals so far!! Really caused me to dig deep, lots of levels of growth and encouragement. Thank you for helping me dig deeper and stir things up in my heart and life!!!
This series has some of the most powerful and inspiring devotions I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. They’re full of Scripture and historical background, and they avoid taking verses out of context. It’s been amazing to see how God has worked to time the various devotions to exactly what I need at a specific moment. I cannot recommend them enough.
