In my tiny hometown of Gillibrook, I’d tried to find the yee to my haw, but instead, I’d kept finding the hell to my naw.
As a triple-crowned county-fair pageant queen, I had grown used to the winner’s circle. But after one too many romps in the hay with local cowboys, I’d only knocked boots with a bunch of losers.
I’d met every Tom, Dick, and hillbilly this side of the mountain, and they’d all turned out to be no-good sons of biscuit-eaters.
I didn’t want to settle for a consolation prize. I played to win the blue ribbon.
So, I’d traded my boots for suits and packed my bags for a taste of city life.
But after that dirty rascal Tommy Pickins broke my heart, I’d learned the pastures weren’t always greener on the other side of the fence, so I hightailed it back home to my roots on a trail of shame.
I tried to lay low at Buck Off Ranch, but small-town gossip traveled faster than a twister through a trailer park.
Once my high school sweetheart, West Miller, caught news of my arrival, he sauntered right back into my life with a score to settle. But his challenge was just another contest I could easily win. One flutter of my lashes, and I would charm him right out of his chaps.
I wasn’t the same innocent country girl who had left this place, and bad-boy West was about to learn a very hard lesson.
Kat Addams is an author of contemporary romantic comedies. She’s had a passion for making readers laugh since she wrote her first over-the-top comic book at the age of eight, earning her high marks and concerning looks from her grade-school teachers. She’s a graduate of the University of Memphis, where she studied English literature and creative writing, and fell in love with the rom-com genre. Her books can be described as equal parts shameless and heartwarming with a heavy dose of heat.
When she’s not writing about exotic men and daydreaming of worldly travels, you can find Kat in her hometown of Memphis, drinking craft cocktails on patios and raising her mini-me with a girl-power attitude—but not necessarily in that order. In her downtime, she loves to embark on outdoor adventures, empower other women, and lose herself in good books and good music.
Kat satisfies her darker side by writing paranormal romance with wicked humor under the name Fritzi Cox. Fritzi provides Kat with an outlet to cause mayhem and debauchery with an element of suspense. Whether you’re reading a book from either Fritzi or Kat, you’re guaranteed a hilarious adventure.
A quick and flirty read with fun small town antics and some crazy but aptly named barn animals, this book had me laughing out loud at several parts and made me so glad to be back in Gillibrook!
I liked that Emma Jean was kind of a male version of West and there was no shame in her game, and West? He was actually a lot sweeter and soft hearted than I expected, even though he was still definitely a cocky cowboy. Emma is back home after being gone for years and West is trying to keep her from leaving town again by showing her they are meant to be. I would’ve loved to see their relationship develop a lot more though as I feel like it ended just a little too soon. We don’t get to see much of them falling back in love and for me it was more of a HFN kind of ending, even with the epilogue. I’m sure we will see more of their HEA in the next book (about another brother) but I just needed this book to be a little longer!
Second chance, small town, enemies to lovers with a lot of laughs and a little bit of emotions and steam make for an enjoyable addition to the series!
A sweet angsty short love story about a second chance with the one that got away!
Two heartbreakers that never forgot about each other but always avoided each other as much as they could finally face each other after 10 years!
Emma Jean Presley returns to her hometown with her tail between her legs and tries to avoid people as much as she can until she has to work with her high school sweetheart West Miller....
She broke his heart but this cowboy wants a second chance with the woman he could never forget. He wants to hold them and not fold them where Emma Jean is concerned.
A sturdy country fair competition, exes and hungry women is just a couple of the hurdles they have to overcome.....
So I was a bit torn on this book. While I loved and adored the characters, the humor and the story itself, the ending left me a little unfulfilled. Part of me feels like it works well for Emma as a character due to her independence but the reader part of me would’ve like just a little more to West and Emma’s story. I’m sure we’ll see more of them in the next book like we saw for Josie and Tripp in this one, so I look forward to that.
Overall, it really was a fantastic book and Emma was a total BA heroine, which I love!!! For sure this series has been extremely fun to read so far.
I’m irritated I paid for this - Spoilers in this review
I read the first book before this one was released but wasn’t quite sure at the time if I wanted to read this one, as I don’t really enjoy second chance books. But since I’m a few days away from some other books being released and needed something to read I saw this one and decided to try it. I’m pretty disappointed in the entire book. Both characters were immature and seems to have no chemistry together at all. Other than the spicy scenes, Emma’s attraction to Kyle and the stranger in the bar was way hotter than anything she ever showed for West. And then West seemed more attracted to Dee than Emma and had more of an emotional connection with Marie.
***Spoilers***I was also upset that most of this book was about the two of them being hurt over other people or thinking about past relationships. And West was seeing another woman but was planning on breaking it off when Marie decided to leave town and then suddenly he’s about to cry and he’s upset about it? Like what??? And without giving too much away, West’s decision to keep his secrets to himself and not tell Emma was BS. She had a right to know and I’m glad this is a fictional couple because real life couples like this one would never make it long term.
Overall, the characters bother had more chemistry with outside characters than each other, their immaturity and lack of communication was ridiculous. Even by the end the whole Kyle/Becky drama from high school still wasn’t resolved. I mean, the whole reason she supposedly dated Kyle and slept with him was because West was dating Becky. But that’s never discussed even after all the mess he made over wanting to talk to her about it. I hate leaving negative reviews like this but this book was just awful. I don’t remember the first book being this bad but even Josie and Tripp annoyed me in this book.
We are back in Buck Off Ranch and now is the turn for the heartbreak runaway queen Emma Jean and let me tell you this book was short but sweet full of the crazy shenanigans that Kat Addams knows how to bring to the table.
After so many years of being away Emma Jean is back in town with a broken heart and a broken pride. But when her old high school flame is there taunting her things get intense and super entertaining.
West wants nothing more but to reconnect with the woman who he can't get over. After so many years he wants Emma back in his arms and finally in his bed. But this little lady won't make things easy for him.
Will the attraction and old flame be enough for Emma not to run away from West?
I really love this series and I love how characters from other Kat Addam's books make appearances making this book a really great read. I hope we see more of Emma and West in the next books.
This witty, fun series is a great escape from reality, and I loved going back to Gillibrook and Buck Off Ranch. While Josie and Tripp are still my favorites, primarily because Josie is my kind of crazy, I certainly enjoyed Emma Jean and West's story. I was worried there for a hot minute that we were going to be dealing with some OW/OM drama, which I completely despise in my escapist reading, but I needn't have been concerned; that aspect went away just as quickly as it appeared, and the story did not get bogged down in such nonsense. Instead, we get plenty of laughs as Emma Jean and West find their way back to each other (with one of them kicking and screaming the whole way).
If you need an escape from the overwhelming downer that is currently our world, you should get lost in this zany series.
This is the 2nd book in this series and is West and Emma Jean’s story. Emma Jean is back in her small hometown after years of being away, and sweet, cocky cowboy West is determined to make sure that she stays in town this time, and to prove to her that they were meant to be together. West may be a bad boy, but Emma Jean is the female version. This is a well written story which has a quick and flirty read, with emotions, witty banter, humor, and love, which leads to an entertaining and steamy addictive page tuner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I've really enjoyed the Buck Off Ranch series and getting to see more of Josie and Tripp (as well as glimpses of some characters from another series). In this story we get to know Emma Jean better and what made her become how she did. West has pined for her for more than a decade and is determined to win her back while she's back in town... and before she runs again. Will they be able to move beyond their pasts and their reputations? There is definitely more to these two than we first think. Looking forward to seeing more of the Miller brothers.
Loved Wanted! A second chance romance at it's best. This was the first book I've read in the series but it can be read as a stand alone.
Emma was sweet, feisty and slightly damaged. Made me root for her to find happiness. West is everything you want in a cowboy and was so determined to win Emma's heart again.
I look forward to reading Book 1 and the rest of the series!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Buck off Ranch Universe warms my heart. Smart, driven women stumbling their way through life and love. Emma Jean has constructed tall walls around her heart. West has attempted to fill the hole where true love has left a void in his soul. These two bumble their back to each other in a super sweet HEA. Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Absolutely love this series! I love that it can be read on own but if you read the first book, it gives more insight into those characters! Also love the Easter eggs for moringwood crew!
Emma Jean and Wests love is beyond everything I wished it could be. Almost loved them more than Josie and Tripp (but just almost 😉) I cant wait for more books in the buck off series to come out. Perfect amount of SPICE and comedy!
We are back in Buck Off Ranch with Emma Jean, the Heartbreak Queen.
Here are the Deets: After so many years of being away, Emma Jean is back in the town of Gillibrook with a broken heart. When she runs into her former high school flame he's there taunting her and things get - intense and entertaining.
As for West, he wants nothing more but a second chance to reconnect with the woman whom he's never been able to get over.
Emma Jean -being Emma Jean couldn't just let West win her over without a few shenanigans! Wanted: Emma Jean Heartbreak Queen literally had me laughing out loud. 😂 Kat I love the way your mind works. The names you come up with. The situations your characters get into 💀 I'm dead in the very best way.
I think West and Emma Jean might be my favorite couple of yours so far.
