Clawless. Powerless. Useless.

I’m no longer packless, but is it any better to be part of the most ruthless pack in shifter history?

Not that I’m anything more than a political pawn. Because I might have their bloodline, but to the shifter world I’m still a dud. Clawless, powerless, and out of touch with my wolf. And now with an even bigger target on my back.

Because I’m the broken wolf who betrayed the new Clan Alpha. He’s one of the strongest wolves on the continent, and the first guy I gave my heart to. But that’s all over now, and I’m just glad I have some distance to lick my wounds.

Until I’m suddenly forced to return to Hunter Moon Academy, the shifter school he and his friends rule. But there is more to my bloodline than the ruthless Marrows. I’m also a Marshall wolf, which puts me under the protection of their pack heir. The same pack heir who wanted me on my knees. Under his claw. But now we’re family. Even if I’m no longer sure what that means.

Because the only way to belong in this world is to shift. And my wolf isn’t going to show herself for just anyone. As fate would have it, the Clan Alpha is the only one who makes her purr. But he doesn’t trust me. And he now has all the power in the world to make sure everyone knows it.

Clawless is a full-length paranormal romance, and is the second book in the Hunter Moon Academy series. It is a continuing story, so Book 1 must be read first, and it ends on a CLIFFHANGER. It is recommended for 18+ due to language, themes of dominance/control, and sexual situations.

Clawless
By Simone Leigh Martin

I loved this book even better than the first one. There was so much going on in it. Everytime you turn around a new shocker pops up. The ending cliffhanger being the biggest shock of them all. I NEVER saw that coming. I should have, but I didn’t. I need to know I hate him even more now than I did before.

The book is in Vail, Jasper, and Reed's POV. I upped the angst level for this book to high because it was darker, sadder, and there are possible triggers for some persons in it.

Slow burn that truly went nowhere and the first in this series is tagged as an RH. RH this is not.
I feel like the author changed game plans for the book midway through the series. I still enjoyed this instalment but it’s definitely not a romance read.

That ending!

Seriously messed up ending! I'm not sure if I should laugh or be angry. I will say that I love Sin! She made this book for me and she's barely even in it! I've never been a huge fan of Jasper but in this book...... I hate him. Reed is sorry for the things he's done but if I were Vail I'd consider grabbing my friends and running. Can nothing go right for this girl? It's almost depressing. Off to buy book 3 and do nothing else but read haha

This was the perfect follow up to Packless. We pickup a few days after the end of of the first book with the fmc having returned to the Horn. The action starts pretty much immediately ending up with the fmc back where she started, at the academy. Clawless follows her adventures in the academy while we learn a lot more about the world that she lives in.

This book was great. We find out more about the Hollow Moon academy world and the people in it. While the book ends in a huge cliffhanger, which I hate, I eagerly await the next in the series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

So many enjoyable and awesome characters and some that i just loved to hate. The first book needs to have been read first for this one to make sense but it was so well written that I cant recommend the first two any more.

I’m now on tender hooks waiting for the next book.

These books felt different from a lot of other paranormal books. Just don’t start it at night as there aren’t many places that you will want to put it down once you have started it.

You definitely need to read book one and have book three in the wings. Vail's story and the lore around the Academy and the warring pack dynamics are fascinating but will leave you desperate to read more so you can find out what happens! Excellent characters and great descriptive settings. I really felt for Vail, her desire to be free from this life and the rules that go with it, not to mention all the toxic characters who act like being shifters gives them a loophole in humanity. Definitely some characters you'll love to hate and some characters you'll just love!

Book one cliffy was hard to take. I know I pretty much was giving Jasper the finger, and to tell the truth, I was still giving it to him through much of this book. Jasper, you jackhole. Why couldn't you pull it together and figure out the obvious? It was so damn apparent at the end of the first book! Really, Jasper? All this angst and pain for nothing.

After the happiest time in her life at Hunter Moon Academy with Jasper, Vail must return home to The Horn, accused of the worst betrayal. She is back in Trey Barakat's backyard, and the douchebag still thinks that she belongs to him. Worse, the real threat isn't even visible; it's somewhere out there in the world waiting to come for her. She knows that she's in the safest place she can be for the moment, even if it's not safe at all. Until the Black Den show up in her backyard for her.

This entire book is really about Vail finding her inner fire. It's about her learning her worth and the truth about who she is. Of course, Simone Leigh Martin has to demolish us with her next cliffhanger. Woman lay off the heartwrenching endings! I'm old. I can't take it.

So, I can't wait for the next book. Book two ended terribly. I don't mean that as in the book sucked--I mean that in the I hate the twist at the end that just made me growl at my Kindle. It's a good, horrible ending.

I give Clawless 4 stars.

Much like the first book, it was entertaining but still in need of a bit more editing. The spelling mistakes and grammar errors were a bit distracting from the meat of the book. The plot moved forward, stayed interesting, though I do wish there were more hints previously in the book as to what the MC actually is. I am feeling like when it's finally revealed, it's going to be a matter of "where did this even come from?"

Still, I will continue on to read the rest of the series. I can see this author growing with time and her work only getting better from here.

Not terrible but not great. It kept me interested enough though to try number three but I dnf that book at about 50%. Vail became weak and unsure and I have a real pet peeve about books where the main character is thrust into an unknown world but does nothing to really learn about who or what they are. Vail and her unwillingness to learn is what really turned me off.

Also, regardless of the “warning” about this book having adult situations it really should be a ya. The “situations” were very mild and so infrequent I wondered why they were added at all. Either write spice or don’t.

Convoluted

The more of this story I read, the more convoluted it gets. You get so bogged down , with so many story lines, and bloodlines, and whatever. It just makes you wonder, what next. Is there ever going to be a point. The first book was good and I gave it full marks. But this second one was just plain boring. The third book will not be read by me, its just not worth my time.

Enemies to Lovers/Academy/Shifters

SYNOPSIS (of 4 Book series): The FC, Veil, was brought up, after her father died, by his best friend and son in a remote mountain area. They’re poor and live a simple, hard life. The FC is sent to Hunter Moon Academy which turns out to be for shifters. It’s there she finds out that shifters exist but that she whilst she is shifter she is different. She is a shifter who cannot turn or has no wolf. She is bullied by the 3 ruling alphas and a female alpha despite being claimed by one of them. The story covers how the FC learns who and what she is, how she survives at the Academy whilst considered the lowest of the shifter community and the reality of the shifter world and powerplays where she is caught in the middle. The shifter world in this story is very hierarchical with those of lesser standing treated very badly.

🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆 - the sex scenes are not too many but the are well written and hot.

I really enjoyed this series right up until the last book. It is hard going as the FC goes through some real crap and is relentlessly bullied and put down. Usually with this type of storyline the bullying will stop or reduce after the first or maybe second book but the FC just kept going through one thing after another right up until Book 4 so it was quite relentless and full of angst. At times I struggled with the fact that Veil never seems to get a break and it just seems to be one thing after another but there was enough happening and secrets revealed that it kept me gripped and reading on. What also kept me engaged was the idea that Veil would get to the light and happiness and those who had harmed her or tried to put her down would get their comeuppance. Unfortunately that did not happen and that massively impacted my view of this series. This has got to be one of the worst series for dragging things out and making things as dark as possible and the FC suffer but NOT then see any of the villains punished or things coming good. The whole climax was rushed considering the 3.5 Books I had to wade through to get there and then there was just nothing. Even the HEA was‘t really a HEA but more a „make do“ with what we have. Honestly I was in shock and almost threw my kindle at the wall I was so upset!

There are a lot of typos and a lack of editing but otherwise the writing is good and the story is solid with a decent amount happening to keep you invested. As mentioned the story is dark, not so much in terms of anything specific just the whole feel of the book is depressing and nothing positive happens to the FC. The bullying and putting down are relentless and the treatment of shifters considered less is just horrible. In addition, the MCs are very hard to like especially Callum who is just foul. The hierarchical rigidity of the shifters, the disgusting treatment of the duds and the absolute brutality and lack of empathy of any of the alphas is hard to get your head around especially as it is perpetuated by the MCs. A point to note is that this is not an RH - it took me quite a while to work that out.

We reach the big denouement and climax battle but actually don’t get much described to us about the fight. Just snapshots of different parts. There is too much happening during the big fight scene and whilst you get some real time description alot of what happened was described after the fact which meant you didn’t get the full picture or story. It left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. Why do authors do that? Spend large amounts of time with build up, creating horrible villains and then just rush through the finale? There were too many frustrating bits to list- Jasper’s mother didn’t end up having to admit what she had done was wrong or grovel; there’s no reference to Callum and what happened with him or any apology and nothing about Pearl or Lucius or Jonathan - what a let down. The big finale is all over quickly and we then spend longer reading about Veil’s depression and the afteraffects than the actual big finale. So disappointing.

The actual ending itself whilst technically a HEA does not leave you feeling particularly happy or satisfied. The main villains just disappear and are simply referred to in passing so you don’t actually know what happened to them and there’s no vengeance or concept of evil being brought down or changes being made to the shifter world.

Unfortunately despite this author clearly being able to weave a strong narrative I won’t be reading any future books. I don’t like spending my time getting invested in characters only to be left hanging.

Good

WARNING! Cliffhanger! Like the end of the first book, this is another pretty big cliffhanger, so line up the next book!

Sent away from the shifter school, Vail finds herself right back where she started, only this time she is answerable to another shifter, one who has his own secrets.
While Jasper works his way up to clan alpha, Vail is shown around as an Omega to Reed’s pack.
Trying desperately to learn about pack politics, and the things that various pack members do, she fights against discrimination, distrust, and the betrayal of everything she holds dear.

As I said with the first book, this is a rather dark series and our heroine has to suffer quite a bit.
It’s an angst filled story with shadowy background figures that seem to control the narrative. As powerless as Vail is, she doesn’t let it stop her from doing the best she can, and despite her weaknesses, she keeps fighting for survival.
It’s a good tale, with plenty of mystery and unseen puppet masters, and both Vail and the reader are equally clueless as to what is going on!
The cliffhanger ending will leave you frustrated with as many new questions as you got answers to old ones, but it definitely doesn’t leave you bored!
An entertaining read for paranormal and academy fantasy fans.

I couldn't read this book after the last cliffhanger. I have to know where this story goes for Vail and Jasper.

We begin this book from Jasper's point of view. His meeting with her father is cryptic at best. But it does explain a little of the mystery behind Vail and her heritage.

Vail's homecoming isn't what she expected, and Trey is a double-crossing ass. She gets somehow dumped back at the academy. Alpha Reed is now inc Harte of her well-being, and yes, I fully remember how much of an Alpha-hole he was, plus he hints at a bit of deception we may not be aware of yet. The truth does come out but not to her. I'm really not sure I like where this is going.

This book ends on a big cliffhanger. Of course, the ending is a twisted surprise, but secrets come to light, and we finally get to see Vail shift. This was absolutely not what I expected, and I have no dues what will happen next.

The strange goings on only get stranger in book 2 and it's difficult to know which wolves are the more evil and which are the more deceived.

I still want to see the school changed in major ways, but the worst things are the lies within lies and the mistreatment of the lower ranking wolves. Emotions and bondings are being manipulated and things keep getting uglier and uglier for our main character. Betrayal upon betrayal occurs and the perpetrators are among the betrayed. The villains are not who I thought and the penultimate betrayal brings this book to a shattering conclusion. Worse, I have to wait a while to get my eyes on the third book.

OMG. I did not see that coming!

From the start of this series I have felt that Vail was never given a chance at anything. Everyone is "just trying to protect her", but none of them are taking the time to explain what is going on. Her "father" won't even tell her what she is or why everyone is hunting her. Vail is trying so hard to just got into her role within the pack. Jasper doesn't trust her and Reed is now claiming her as part of his pack.
Things started making sense at the end and then all the sudden, with that last chapter, things don't make sense again. I really need to read the next book. I have to know what's going on!
I loved this book!

Once they thought her wolf was broken, and treated her like a second class citizen.

When she was an orphaned into the human world she knew nothing about shifter society. After her first experience with it, she was happy to be far away from the shifter academy. Now things have changed, & they’re dragging her back. How can she figure out what’s wrong with her wolf, stay away from all alphas, and just keep her head down, when others are continually trying to make her pay for a history she didn’t knew she every hand.
