Emergency physician Drake Cody is on duty at a controversial oil pipeline's opening ceremony when an explosion critically injures a Minnesota senator and others. With the blast, sovereign citizen militia leader Tolman Freid, cruelly wronged by government and corporate injustice, has transformed his extremist anti-government ideology into terrorist action. He believes he is history- and duty-bound to take down the system, no matter the cost. Upon arriving at the ER, Drake's hopes for saving the dying senator and other victims rise, but in the next minute, Freid and his militia set in motion the rest of their devastating scheme--a terrorist action more deadly than any in history--and it is centered in the ER. While FBI agents and police coordinate desperate efforts outside the hospital, Drake, a few ER colleagues, and a handful of vulnerable patients must somehow stop the heavily-armed, fanatical extremists or they and tens of thousands of innocent people will die.
Absolutely do not read this book before bedtime! And brace yourself for high blood pressure and dry mouth. I'm still sitting here trying to tell myself that it was just a story but my brain and body isn't buying it.
Insurrection is packed with characters you'll rapidly love or hate. The doctors and nurses who work in the emergency room are, for the most part, true heros, and the other ones are seriously flawed human beings.
The author, Tom Combs, puts together a crew of bad guys the likes of which you'll find yourself growing to hate more and more as the plot advances.
Insurrection is a creative, tension-filled, Machiavellian, heart-breaking and terrorizing thriller you won't be able to put down. Highly recommended.
I love a well written medical thriller as introduced by Robin Cook and Michael Palmer. I've looked far and wide for a well written medical thriller to read, recommend and anxiously await for their next release. This book has something for everyone, enough medical procedure to satisfy folks like me and a heart racing hostage crisis with a new spin that doesn't involve international terrorism that bores me to tears. Do yourself a favor and read, "Insurrection," in fact all books in this series. And, Tom, don't write so slow! I can't wait for what you come up with next!!
You GB are taken on a journey that you might think can be real. You are talking terrorists that want it there way only and you have no chose but give in. These people did not give in but went along and trying to figure things out. They were held in a ER hospital along with other people there , this where everything gets strange and scary. The did a great job with the book and you can not stop reading , at times it makes you wonder if something like this could happen.
Drake Cody and his colleagues again face incredible odds to avoid an unmatched terrorist event. There is some noticeable carelessness in the writing that doesn’t spoil the story. By all means read this series in order to fully appreciate the characters.
I usually read in the thriller genre. It can get repetitive. But this had everything! Besides the interesting backdrop of ER physicians and what they do, it had the excitement of a full blown terrorist attack. Interesting, well developed characters too. Loved it!
I enjoyed the book. As a paramedic for more than thirty years and a Hospital Emergency Manager at a Level One Trauma Center in another Midwest urban community I can relate to the story.
Hospitals are critical infrastructures in our communities and can be targets for bad actors. Dr. Combs made his characters relatable and the overall plot feasible.
This was an intense story that held my interest all the way. The ending was a little predictable but satisfying. I would have liked to see the reporter and the CEO exposed for the self centered creeps they were, though. I'll be reading more of this author's work.
I didn't think Tim Combs could surpass the previous books, but he did. Combine terrorism and chemical warfare AND a locked down ER. Heroic doctors combined with doctors resolved to live made this a book impossible to put down.
This one didn't do much for me. Sort of a Die Hard movie without much sense of humor. Waaaaay too much political and social lecturing by the characters.
Wow what a rush! I have read a lot of books but this one knocked it out of the park. I got the book for free and now I feel guilty about it. It was that good.
All 4 books were amazing but wow book #4. Just keeps drawing you in needing more info on what happens next. Follow Drake Cody and his friends on such a wild ride! You'll ask yourself how one person can have so much bad sh*t happen to one person, but it is 100% capable to just have the rain pour before it gets better! I would love a follow up on him and his friends! And WTF is up with the disgusting human being Cline. You just want to throat punch him in every book. What a dirtball. I highly recommend this series! I look forward to more books from Tom Combs.
Another good book by a skilled Tom Combs,MD. Easy read, and increasingly more intricate and complex story with twists than prior Drake Cody books. Marks of a good and entertaining author! Thanks Tom
