Perfectly charming and heartwarming characters. Just enough heat! Interesting plot that kept me thoroughly engaged throughout. Enjoyed every minute of it!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I love this series. I have read books one and two and already started on the third. Book one is Matilda’s parents’ love story. Matilda is the only daughter to one of the most powerful men in England. The Duke of Sinclair, she has been loved and spoiled by both her parents. The relations between her and her stepmother, Frances was wonderful to read. Also, it was nice for the time this is written that her father Henry truly loves her for who she is and never once longed for a son. She does have a little brother now, Bartholomew/Barty who is a smart, funny add to the story. Matilda and her best friend Althea grew up playing together with her brother, Henry and his friend Owen. Matilda/Tills to family and friends has been in love with Henry most of her life. She has written about him in her journals many times over the years. Even though she has not seen him in many years she still pins for him and turns down all the men her father tries to match her with. When she hears that he is to marry another under strange circumstances she knows something is wrong. The boy she knew could not do what was being said of him. Tills has always acted first and then thought about the consequences later. Stopping his wedding saved him but also caused lots of gossip and harm to him and his family. They marry to stop the rumers, save his family's reputation and give his sisters a better chance of a good marriage. They are best friends, now married and she knows if he finds out what she has done he will never forgive her. Henry hasn’t seen Tilly for years and she is no little girl now, but a beautiful woman and he is having trouble sticking to their agreement. He is still determined to find the women who wronged his family and caused so much harm. With secrets, both letting evil others place doubts in their minds and misunderstanding between them can they find a way to have their happy ever after? What will happen when Henry finds out, will love win or his temper and hurt win? Thank goodness for her maid and confidante. Grab this series and get started you will not be sorry except for not getting much done! I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
I just finished this book and greatly enjoyed it! While it was a little slow and confusing at first, it turned into a beautiful story of friendship, love, betrayal, and forgiveness. The ups and downs of best friends, becoming lovers, and the entanglements that come with it. There was so much drama involved and I was there for every second. Tilly and Henry are both complicated characters and eccentric in their absolute disdain for marriage and utter blindness to the feelings of the other. Thank heavens for Betty! And her meddling! She is the best maid ever. I also really loved Frances and Ralph, her parents. They were so understanding and so adoring of tilly, which is so rare in a historical regency romance. I loved that her father never truly pushed her and truly adored her. And did what was necessary to make sure, if something happened to all them, she would retain the title and the fortune, again extremely rare. I hope we get a story about Althea and Medea because they are hilarious and absolutely adorable. Plus I need Owen with Althea. They are perfect!!
This story about Henry and Matilda, childhood friends and Mathilda having a hard crush on Henry for all the years they know each other. When Matilda finds out, that Henry should marry another woman. She is sure, this can't be of his choice. She developes a plan to stop this marriage from happening. Little does she know why he agreed to the scheme and how it will effect his little sisters. Soon Henry and Matilda meet again and their feelings grow and they get married. When Henry learns of Matilda's role in his former failed marriage attempt, he is furious and all seems lost. This is when Matilda's maid smuggles her diary in Henry's coach. He reads all about her intentions to save him from a loveless marriage. He learns of her love for him for this many years and forgives her.
I was hooked with the characters and the story, loved it very much.

MATILDA & HENRY WHAT LOVE STORY COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN LOVED THE CHARACTERS
SHE HAS LOVED hIM SINCE SHE WAS 12 SHE WILL DO ANYTHING TO HELP HIM - IF HE FINDS OUT HE WILL NEVER FORGIVE HER. Inseparable as children then he left to travel promising to return for her first ball, she never forgot his promise he did ! Years later he returns with a reputation, her father wants her to marry she heard Henry has compromised a young Lady and has to marry. Matilda best friend is his sister the family is devastated and will be ruined .
Beautiful love story, despise being a little confusing in the beginning. The transition from best friends to lovers is peppered with friendship, love, betrayal and finally, forgiveness. I enjoyed the fact that her father had truly showed her real affection, by making certain she will be taken care when their time will come, something so rare in regency era. Truly, I recommend this book for anyone enjoying a best friends to lovers!!
Matilda and Henry grew up as best friends. However when he left home to travel he didn’t return. When he did come back it was to announce his engagement to the daughter of a man to whom his father owed gambling debts. Henry spent his time drinking and debauching while waiting for the banns to be read. When they were, the engagement was broken. Henry and Matilda got together soon after. Telling more would lead to spoilers but the story is very well put together and the characters are well developed. Anyone who reads Regencies knows the outcome, but it’s the road traveled and the way it develops that make this such fun. Thanks to the author and publisher for an e-galley for an honest review.
I liked it. It was sweet, it was cute, and, more importantly, it wasn't anachronistic. It's quite difficult to find a "historical" romance that actually feels like it's happening in the time period it is supposed to be happening, but this one did it. I'm not sure why the series is called "Wicked and wanton in London" since no part of this story takes place there. I haven't read the other books in it, so maybe those make sense.
What a fantastic story about a lady, who refused many marriage proposals as she loved her child hood friend. But nobody new except her maid. This story evolves into a beautiful read.Well written and characters great. The extended epilogue is a great finish to this read.
A lovely story about true and dear friends. Through thick and thin. Really enjoyed the first books in this series. I think you will as well if you like romance that is happy ever after. Enjoy
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The story was good and kept me reading and there weren't too many mistakes with the editing. I highly recommend Lisa's books if you enjoy reading historical romance novels.
Unique plot, which was a bit of change of pace for a regency romance. However, a bit of honesty would have gone a long way and a frank conversation could have saved a lot of trouble.
