This collection of short stories is designed around the concept of learning languages through reading and communication, rather than through inneffective rote memorization of artificial and complex grammar rules. By acquiring Japanese through stories, learners develop a deeper understanding of the nuances of the language as they can see everything in context. This is the first of this series, and is designed for absolute beginners. *"Unique word count" does not include particles, multiple conjugations of same word, or Katakana words taken from English. **This count includes words used in class stories from the Teacher's Pack ***Sold Separately

This book is a lot of fun! Its absolutely bonkers. The repetition is really helpful with learning vocabulary. It's also helpful with grammar in a intuitive sense because you are learning in context. Sometimes the stories would make me feel I read ir wrong because the ending would come out of left field. Lol. I had a great time reading this and am excited to read Volume 2.

This is the first book I've read in all Japanese. I think it's great for a beginner.

This book is really...strange, which I liked, but you probably shouldn't read if you form connections with book characters rather easily. Otherwise it's funny and a good way to have a first introduction into reading in japanese.
