Paul developed a keen sense of imagination whilst reading dark fiction and watching cult horror movies throughout his teenage years. Heavily influenced by the likes of US Horror writer, Robert McCammon, and movie director, John Carpenter, Paul likes to take a seemingly normal character and put them into an extraordinary situation. Paul is also a fully qualified boxing coach, and currently helps out at his local boxing club as an assistant coach.
TRUE LOVE OF MINE is Paul's next book, a horror/thriller, due for release SOON.
I thought the storyline of DEEP AND DARK DECEMBER by Paul Cave was promising and I looked forward to reading this terror-filled tale. Unfortunately, the story is rife with errors and requires a decent edit...I know that a Brit wrote this story and I'm not suggesting that the errors are due to this difference. There are typos, missing and added words and other items that could easily be corrected.
The story is still decent and held my interest to the end. Perhaps an analysis of the rain might be added in the story as it would help with the understanding of what actually happened. The author also made errors in his consistency between vehicles and weaponry - changing them up as the story progressed.
The story could be a diamond if it were cleaned up.
Quick read. Decent plot. It could have been so much more; but wasn’t. Character developments were a little light and scene settings were slim. I take real exception to British Authors, as in Mr. Cave, who write an America based novel; but fails to get the facts, especially will guns and cars. He referred to a Ford Maverick as both a car, with trunk, and as a pickup. The Ford Maverick wasn’t a pickup until after the 1981 timeline. He referred to a .22 caliber bolt action rifle, as .22 gauge. Then he referred to it as a lever action (which would be a breach load). He also indicated it’s force as pushing a 900# animal back; which wouldn’t happen. He also indicated another character having a firearm, without paperwork; which wouldn’t be relevant in 1981. Also, the odds of a female deputy in 1981 would be slim to none. Not being sexist, just stating the reality.
I found this book to be a great little read with a story that flowed well. I loved the characters of Rivers and Anderson and enjoyed reading how their relationship grew. Would highly recommend.
