For years Guardian Security has protected the world against evil. They were an offensive weapon against monsters that sought to prey on the unprotected.
Until now.
Attacked at the heart of their operations, both in Washington D.C. and the South Dakota Annex, the Kings of Guardian go on the offense to protect the lives of their families, friends, and innocents caught in the crossfire.
This is War.
Who declared it? Where are they hiding and how did the Guardians miss the threat that has blown their world apart?
Survival isn't guaranteed.
To turn the tide, the Guardians must survive and protect those they love. But in that effort, there are no certainties. Theirs is a dangerous profession.
Author's note: The Siege is a two-part book with a possible cliffhanger ending at the conclusion of book one.
USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author, Kris Michaels is the alter ego of a happily married wife and mother. She writes romance, usually with characters from military and law enforcement backgrounds.
Kris was born and raised in South Dakota. She graduated many years ago from a high school class consisting of 13 students (yes that is thirteen, eleven girls and two boys...lucky boys). She joined the military, met her husband, and traveled the world. Today she lives on the Gulf Coast and writes full time.
Kris is an avid people watcher and dreamer. The stories she writes are crafted around the hopes and dreams of a true romantic. She believes love is essential, people are beautiful, and everyone deserves a happy ending.
When she isn't writing Kris enjoys a full life revolving around family, friends, laughing, whiskey, and cold red wine. (Yes cold...don't judge.)
What an awesome conclusion. Like the first book, it takes me on an emotional journey of happy highs, to nail biting tension to pure hatred for the bad guys.
This book starts off with what was missing from the first book. What happened on the Ranch in South Dekota. Just hours before the attack life is beyond good. How do they fare in the atta? Are their friends, family and loved ones alive? Is anyone coming to help them?
The second part with Guardian's retaliation is a page turning must read. The setup tension is great I defy anyone to be able to put this book fown at this point.
I really enjoy the continuity of characters from side/spinoffs added to the main story. The character development to every character has always been a strong point in this series I sm glad it is always an important part of every book. For any fan of the series this is a must have and huge things happen that will shape the future of the series and new heroes and spinoffs.
If you want to know what happens, read your own copy. That said this was off the charts stunning. Every page had something new, action in the bedroom or in the field of war and defence. It was a brilliant and emotional end to what has been one of the best series I’ve read. Thanks Kris!
The end of a tale that was brewing for many, many months culminates in this story. Kris Michaels had led, teased and promised an epic ending. Man did she deliver!! True, Guardian was knocked to their collective knees. Confused and hurting, they rallied their respective skills and through Guardian team work, they lived their motto: WHATEVER IT TAKES AS LONG AS IT TAKES The entirety of the Guardian family and crew deliver hellfire on the bad guys. You'll be in the thick of it, gasping, crying, cursing and cheering. Thank you, Kris Michaels, for another excellent read.
I’m not sure where to start with this review, so much happens in this book!! Another epic instalment to the Kings of Guardian Series.
So we already know The Siege is divided into two books, the first book follows the Guardian team members, their family & friends who were mainly based at Guardian’s HQ during the attack, in this book we read how the assault on the ranch happens.
What I loved about both books was how each chapter followed a favourite couple/family during the attack, I thought I would get completely lost due to the amount of characters within the series but each chapter flowed so well, I won’t give much away….but if you are a fan of this series then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading these two books!!
I was really worried about the series ending, yes I know the characters have aged throughout the series, but if like me, you’re not ready to say goodbye to our beloved Guardian…The last sentence of the book will bring you happiness, it was a perfect ending for a perfect book series, Bravo Kris Michaels you truly are the best!…and Thank You for bringing us The awesome Kings of Guardian 👏🏼👏🏼
No plot spoilers No real potential triggers although there is an attempted rape and violence against women. The characterisation is absolutely perfect, and has been throughout the whole Guardian series. The plotline is so twisty and engaging I couldn't put the book down, definitely one to read again and again. I guessed at the baddie when reading the first book and was pleased I was right. I think that says more about me than the author, in that in this instance I recalled clues from previous books, not that the baddie was obvious. I adore the Guardian family and have no problem recommending the series. There are some sex scenes and some swearing.
Kris Michaels is a fantastic storyteller! Her Kings of Guardian series is one of the best I have ever read!!! Her character development was the best. You will fall in love with her characters!! I would recommend this series to everyone!
Wow, so hard to review without spoilers. Love the strength of the characters, the depth of their love as they deal with the seige. The sense of family that never dissipates.
I am emotionally drained. That... that was just a wonderful read. I say 'wonderful'... but you know what I mean. It was immersive from the get-go... I am not sure how many breaths I took whilst reading this... and was fairly sure that I was going to collapse with worry at one point.
A massive array of characters, but thankfully it all worked. There wasn't a jarring moment in this. It all made perfect sense as it unfolded.
I liked the switch on location, that also made sense as a two-parter. To be honest, I hadn't been 100% sure that that would work. It did. In spades.
I have to say I realised at about the 50% mark the who, the why and a lot of the how. As I continued to read it was the only thing that made sense. I think there was one paragraph that really revealed it to me. This isn't a negative, not at all. I hate it when there are too many red herrings chucked in there. Though, I have to say
This is a well structured multi-layered story told in a way that the reader has no choice but to keep reading. That, for me, is the sign of a very very very good read!
I am wondering about
So... what next for the Guardians? They are a family that I will look forward to reading more of... having catch-ups as the legacy continues. And, of course, Phoenix's story... Andrew Hollister's tale and Lt. Evers ( Long Road Home ) too!!
A thoroughly good read. Totally recommend parts one and two!
This book is amazing! This book entails the battle for The Ranch and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The people who started this war didn’t know who they were dealing with. Joseph, aka Fury, leads the team coming in from Hollister and the people from The Ranch will definitely do their part. This one is action packed and suspenseful emotional.
Edited to add: I have read this book 6 times and I could start reading it again now. Kris Michaels writes book like this I’ve read the series 3 or 4 times. When I get in a “book funk” where I don’t want to read anything I grab one of hers. I can’t recommend this series enough.
I'm a bookaddict, not a bookworm. I love to read and look forward to whenever the next book in a series I enjoy comes out. I don't count the days until the next book hits the kindle because I have so many to read but when the release day comes I have a happy smile on my face as my new book downloads.
Well, that's how it was until I read The Siege Part 1. When I finished that rollercoaster of a book I found myself checking the calendar to see what date it was, working out how many days until the release date of the 29th March, carefully planning what books to read beforehand so that I would be ready to reread Part 1 and then dive headlong into Part 2.
My excitement for this book was increased every time I had a read of Kris's spoiler group. Seeing all the theories about who the bad guy was and he thoughts over what was happening at the ranch just ramped things up even more. And Kris Michaels did not help one bit!!! Getting blood out of a stone is easier than getting a clue out of Kris. Way easier.
Of course, when you're on such a cliff edge of excitement there is a risk that you could crash and burn rather than soaring high on another great read. Would Part 2 be as good as Part 1? Would the fast moving plot still have you turning the page in impatient excitement as you try to find out what is happening to everyone? Would everyone survive? Was the world going to end?
So many questions might make you afraid to read the book, just in case, you know.
Thankfully, Part 2 was not only as good as Part 1, it was better. The ranch was now under attack, its occupants unaware of what was coming until the shooting down of the plane sparked everything off. With the same high speed, full on excitement and danger laden chapters as Part 1, the ranch occupants battled for their lives, interspersed with snippets of action from the attack on DC. Plans were drawn up and executed in true Guardian style in the two pronged attack on the bad guys.
And you still didn't get a positive ID on the bad guy until near the end! So many theories bounced around yet Kris never solidified the clues until the time was right for the identity to be revealed.
Our heroes survived, a little battered and broken with new challenges to face them - not just in the Guardian work world but also in their personal lives. Some challenges wanted, some not but you know they will face them head on with determination and plenty of the badass attitude that some are known for.
Guardian will rebuild, better and stronger than before as new people step up to take their place alongside the original Guardians and I look forward to jumping on that ride, meeting the new characters and getting to know more about the little town of Hollister with it's interesting characters.
Thank you, Kris, for giving us this wonderful world.
It is an amazing and mystical experience when an author captivates your heart and emotions and pulls you into his/her plot and characters through his/her words. Few authors have the magical ability, and Kris Michaels is a sorceress extraordinaire.
Fast forward to the present and thirty-one books later, I read The Siege Part 2, by Kris Michaels. It is an extremely heart-wrenching read with suspense and angst. You once again meet all the characters that you read about and watch them come together to work toward a huge task: prevent total devastation to Guardian Security and its employees world-wide... by an unknown antagonist. But this time, the antagonists become KNOWN…and attack the Marshall Ranch and the Guardian Center located there.
Like a Master weaver, Kris Michaels weaves a multitude of characters into a dangerous and complex plot where the past, present, and the future converge. While her words will keep you spellbound, you be will on the edge of your seat throughout the read. Despite it being a tense read, Kris manages to interject sibling love, as well as hysterical and witty humor, which provide a sense of balance to warm your heart and give you hope… that family, love, and innate goodness will triumph and make the world a better place.
This is acutally a combined review, the same text is submitted for The Siege - Part 1
I only recently re-started the Guardian books after a break and normally hate books ending on cliffhanger. But in this case that's not the biggest problem, the problem is that is should have been just one book, the author seem to take advantage of a faithful reader group by splitting a story into two and charging quite a lot for it.
While it's great to see so many characters again, was it really necessary for all of them to have s*x before the attack started? All readers will have read her books before and know and. understand the characters why does it feel like Ms Michaels needed to fill the pages instead of concentrating on the actual attack?
The bad boy was fairly clear from the end of the last book actually (Reaper), I was disappointed that there was no further description of his view and action, the small bit at the end of the second book felt a bit like an add-on.
While I know Jewell is a genius, I think the scenario how she is able to find everything feels over the top, If Guardian is so well connected, there was nothing she could have tapped for assistance?
Yes, the story is a conclusion for Kings of Guardian and a set-up how Guardian is going forward. But a novella should have done the trick as well.
This is a wonderful conclusion to the Kings of Guardian series, leaving me wanting even more. I’m usually tired of a long series before it ends but this, combined with other stories in the Guardian world has been amazing, book, after book. The stories are great, characters make me want to be friends with them all and it’s not angsty or dark. This is the first military/espionage type book that I’ve read where I’m not dragged into the darkness or drudgery.
If you are planning to read this book immediately after The Siege book 1, then be prepared that the beginning of this one might be a little slow after the rush from the adrenaline of the ending of the first book. The beginning of this shows us what the people at the South Dakota ranch are doing before the attack in DC, which is needed for the plot.
I loved how they all work together to help each other and to fight the bad guys. Mountain and Sunset protocols are cool and very well planned out. I get to reunite with all the characters from the previous books in this series.
This is a great book and series and I highly recommend it to everyone. I can actually see me rereading the entire series, including all the other books from other Guardian series that are interwoven (see author’s website for reading order).
I borrowed The Siege, Part 2 ~ Kings of Guardian ~ Book 14, by Kris Michael from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
After the headquarters of Washington DC was hit with missle fire and demolished with many employees escaping through the tunnels in the building that were built for emergency exiting the building. Jacob is injured badly and it takes Dan, a Guardian explosive expert to move the large slabs of cement to clear the entrance to the tunnel where Jacob and Jerad were trapped. Joseph, two teams and a group of Navy SEALs travel to South Dakota and they set up and execute Operation Sunrise. I love the code names for operations, individuals and sites used by Guardian. In the end Jewell figures out who is behind the attacks on Guardian, and who he is after. In the showdown, at the Marshall Ranch and the Annex in South Dakota, the King brothers, two Guardian teams and the SEALs take back the ranch and find the two missing women. The Guardian group works together, are friends and take care of each other as they work to make the wrold a better place.
I was lucky enough to discover Kris Michaels books in the past couple of years so I was able to read a majority of them without waiting for too many books in the series. What a wonderful author. The Siege Part 1 and Part 2 were so worth the wait. The plot was thrilling (it was really tough to wait for Part 2 to come out). To feel so invested in the characters is something that Kris Michaels easily accomplishes to the reader. I preordered this book and when it came on my kindle at midnight, I almost could not wait to start it (I did until a normal time in the morning). So many wonderful characters, but very easy to follow and remember each story and how they all worked together to overcome “whatever it takes, as long as it takes”. I recommend you read the books in order to get the best experience. And this author is truly an experience to remember. She has been on my favorite list since the first book.
Kris Michaels' is one of my one-click authors. I was highly anticipating "The Siege, Part 2". It was phenomenal and exceeded my expectations. Well done, Kris!
I don't want to give away the story line but the response to the attack on the ranch and headquarters blew me away. Kris writes strong women in her books who also are unique in their personalities. It's one of the many things I love about her writing.
Reading about these amazing women doing what needs to be done and shining through adversity had me falling into the story. I love when the story is so good that you forget you're reading a book and you're there in the moment with the characters. I rated this 5 stars because the scale only goes that high. On a scale of 1-5, it should be a 10. Yes, it's that good.
I'll be anxiously awaiting the next book. Until then, I'll be re-reading the whole series because these are books that you'll fall in love with and want to re-read again and again.
This whole series is phenomenal! Each book is highly worthy on its own. The whole series draws you in so you feel like part of the family. There are so many life lessons in this book. Family. Loyalty. Love. Each book can stand alone but you truly do want each copy of these books. It is best to read them in order so you can get the scope of how it all plays out.
The story is transitioning as it will, and I can’t wait to see how it develops and grows. I truly love the past will continue to be included in the present.
Well done, well done Kris Michaels. You have brought us all along on a journey that was intriguing, had so much humor, and enduring love. Thank you for the long hours you took to produce this body of work and the care that you took for each character. It has been amazing and will always endure.
Phewww full of emotion and action. All the couples are working with all they have to help figure out what is happening and to save the injured or kidnapped or missing members several questions from the last book are answered right away and others we have to worry with the characters throughout the story. The villain surprised me, but his actions did not. The ending threw me a bit in terms of the quickness with some things like the foster situation. Zane and Joseph were my two MVPs. The way they love and protect is sweet and becomes a huge part of the story. Tori and her reactions were unexpected, but also incredibly understandable. The two part Siege is incredible and speaks to all the richness of characters and world that this series and world has created! Tickled for more books in this series and updates on all the characters!
I must admit book two was still action packed but not as intense as book 1 was. But there were still parts of this book that had me tearing up. At the end of the book I still wanted to know what happened to Ferguson who left before he got killed? What happens now to Guardian International? And what will happen to so many lives that changed especially Tori's? She is such a bad ass that was mentally broken with lies she was told & I hope in future books we have all these answered.
Overall I loved this book & kudos to Kris who is so creative in her writing that I already can't wait to get into the next story in the reading order to see what happens next, learn about new characters & hopefully get updates to past characters mentioned in The Siege 1 & 2.
OMG this was an incredible ride. Guardian has been attacked as we learn from The Siege Part 1 and we get the lay of the land and what has happened in DC. As we learned in Part 1 a plane has crashed in South Dakota, what happens next is what transpires after that at The Ranch. Our family friends are under attack and know one has learned who is behind it yet. The folks at the Rose are literally the lifeline between DC, the Ranch, and the Mountain. All of your favorite characters are their doing what they do best, some surprises for family members but even with people being injured. Our Guardians find a way to take down the bad guys for as long as it takes. Kris this is a number one winner.
I loved the conclusion to The Siege. They are down but not out.
Everyone can mes together in times of trouble but this is the biggest trouble that no one ever though would happen. Will the family come out the other side? How do they all handle having to scatter from DC to get the families and especially kids to safety? How does Lycos feel about the kids and some adults converging on his off-the-grid mountain that no one new where it was? They also need to find out what is going on at the the Annex because communication is down. Tori and Faith are kidnapped in this coordinated attack and then they show up at the Annex. Who is behind d this and why are they doing it? How will Jared and Joseph get to the girls and will they get there before they are hurt any worse?
Great series! Feels like I know them they are family now!
I have become addicted to the Guardian Series and anything remotely related! It feels as if they are family and I have to keep up with them! I really hope you continue to develop their stories and keep this going! The siege wrap up was great! I would have liked more of course because I did not want it to end, especially Jason and Jacob’s stories as well as the Shadows. Joseph’s story as they help Tori, etc. wow just wow! Great stories as a series and as each story of each one of this amazing story! A must read, you will not be disappointed!
The much awaited sequel to The seige was indeed worth every second of waiting. I laughed, cried, wallowed in family love and sat on the edge of my seat in a total state of suspense. I really can't do this series justice in a review but once I pick up one of Kris Michaels books it is very hard to put it down. This book I found impossible to walk away from, it had me gripped from page one. Please note that this series is 'The King's of Guardian ' and it is linked to 'Guardian Security Shadow World' and the 'Guardian Defenders' series. I recommend you read the other books before this one to get the best enjoyment from it.
What do we do when unexpected change comes into our lives? We adapt or we have a nervous breakdown. All parts of Guardian must change after coming under attack. All who work for Guardian must also change and adapt. The women of Guardian stepped up and assisted the fight for survival and justice. Thank you, Kris for giving us strong and smart women as role models and non-whiners. Also, thanks for giving them strong men to merge with them and compliment them. Jason and Faith survive, so I am over the moon. Looking forward to The Guardian Legacy series. Again, thank you for allowing them to live.
It's hard to put into words how good this book was. This story was about the attack on the Annex in South Dakota and what the people there endured. This story read like an action movie, in fact, these two books should be made into a movie. I put off reading this book until the weekend because I knew that I would want to read it in one sitting.
Ms. Michaels Kings of Guardian are strong men and women who will capture your heart and the stories will stay with you. This one certainly will stay with me. From page one to the end, Ms. Michaels draws her readers into the story and doesn't let go. She leaves me wanting more.
They have been hit on multiple fronts but in true Guardian style they will never quit....they will die defending. I love that these two books pull all of Guardian together, every base, every Agent and every family member, it ties together everything from the first 14 books in an epic battle that no-one could have imagined but all are determined they will win. It was an enemy they never saw coming and changes will need to be made, but first they must fight smart and survive. A fantastic book and we get an introduction to two new spin off series: Hollister, I have read book one and I highly recommend it. And The Guardian Legacy...I can't wait!
You know the saying, win the battle then the war…well this is what I feel Guardian has done and done amazingly well❣️
I don’t want to give too much of the story away so I’m not going to get into too much detail but what I did want to say is every time I read that Armageddon message sent out by Operator 247…I get chills ALL OVER😬 An amazing duet and definitely advise to read in order and I enjoyed the introduction of Andrew and discovering more about him😍
Kris Michaels’ The Seige - Book 2 is Epic! She is masterful, the way she keeps the action moving from Guardian in DC to the campus in SD to the Rose, yet also feeling the emotions of each character. I feel like if I say too much I will give away spoilers, so let’s just say that I had really built this book up in my mind after how good Book 1 was, and it TOTALLY exceeded expectations. I can’t wait to read both books again, one right after the other, to revel the goodness again!
OMG! This story was intense right from the beginning! I didn't want to stop reading but work and sleep got in the way. Each scene was totally heartwrenching. I was so sad for how many lives were lost. It was a total shock to find out who was behind this devastation. He was after Frank and Guardian was basically the catalyst to this man's evil plot to make Frank pay. I am happy that all of the King family survived, damaged but alive. This story was intense and FANTASTIC! Kris did a FANTASTIC job! I would highly recommend this book!
what a super angsty romantic all guns blazing get together of favourite alphas and alphaettes! I just love this series and so excited that its not ending. like Kris Michaels said in her video, don't panic on your favourites disappearing, I'm a romance writer. thank goodness. and she got me, I suspected the 2nd grade baddy and who they may be after but not the baddy himself. .soooo good. thanks Matt Haynes for bringing the character's from the whole series to life..I powered through both books and I'm not sad that I'm finished, as we're still going yay!!!!
