Rate this book
Survive. Humanity lost the war and now vampires rule while the defeated live between being second-class citizens and livestock. Some live as slaves to their immortal masters, others are free, traitors to their own kind while a few refused to be oppressed and began fighting back.

Kira Nightraven is one who exists in between, a human raised by the Imperial Family, spared from sharing her family's fate. Though she made it through the war with her life, it was a life in a gilded cage. Raised among the Pureblood Daughter of the Imperial Family, Kira hardened her heart and strengthened her will to never allow anyone to hurt her again.

Fifteen years after the start of the war Kira has perfected her skill, navigating the halls and rooms of the Palace, the vampire-dominated society and even the Hierarchy of the government to be nearly untouchable. For a time she safe and secure, that is until the unexpected return of the last woman she ever thought or wanted to see.

Different than when they were children, Eona Tepes has every intention of softening the stone that is Kira's heart and to show her there is more to life than just surviving. However, In their years apart another laid claim to Kira, one who does not take kindly to another eyeing what is hers.

Caught between two worlds, two women and two lives, Kira fears this will not be something, even she can survive.

I knew this would be a doozy before I reached the 10% mark. I never DNF, and this one really tempted me. But I wanted to give it a fair shot.

It felt like AI wrote this, translated it into another language, and then translated it back to English. It was the most disjointed dialogue I've ever read. There were so many typos, repetitive sentences, and referring to someone as "the human" or "the vampire" instead of using their name.

The concept was interesting and I really wanted to like it. If it had better editing I would have felt differently. I couldn't focus on the world building and character development because of the poor editing, and the ebook formatting was weird as far as page breaks and new chapters. Having to weed though errors on every page made it extremely hard to concentrate on the characters, plot, and what was even going on.

The POV was odd and at times I couldn't tell who was talking. One second Kira is narrating and the next she's skedaddled and someone else is narrating. I really wanted to connect to the characters, but I constantly felt lost by how disjointed it was as a whole.

Quotes that hurt my brain. Copied directly from my Kindle:

"The human woman finally dropped on the couch where her friend once sat, and grabbed the side of her head and before she pushed back."

"She had watched the human since she entered the room and patiently waited for her arrival, though expected a later arrival."

"That’s not the only reason blood’s passed though. She though to herself as she remembered things Jake had taught her, things she had learned about the vampire."

"Carmilla stepped back and leaned against her desk with intrigued."

"Carmilla raised her hand—Eona’s face went to the side, slapped with full force—by Kira."

"She turned the sidewalk into an ally then turned again and slipped between a small space caught in the middle of two buildings."

"Kira’s fingers sneezed tightly around her throat."

Since I'll be one of the first to say a review on this site for this book... I just have ONE reaction for the ending you JUST put me through.

description

Starting off with my feelings about the ending:

description

You make me fall in love with the main couple and do THAT to me?! I LOVE KIRA AND CARMILLA. ADORE THEM AND THIS HAPPENS?! I-I thought we meant something to each other. I mean, you have no idea who I am and I randomly found your book on tiktok...BUT STILL!

description

Okay, I have a lot of feelings about this book and it's because of how amazing this book was. It's so nice to get books with a Sapphic main love interests. This book was deliciously fun to read and I'm so glad I found your book and gave you a follow when I did. I bought this book the second I saw your tiktok and have zero regrets!

YOU WILL THANK ME LATER.

I saw this book on TikTok and it was described as sapphic vampire smut. So naturally I was like “huh this sounds pretty interested I should give it a try”. Upon reading I found the writing go be a bit clunky and just didn’t flow very well. The main character in the story is a human called Kira and although this story is told in her perspective the narrator would constantly call her “the human” or some other variation of “prey” or “slave” when using her name would have been far more appropriate and made the writing flow better. If the story/chapter was told in the perspective of the vampire I could dismiss it cause that’s just how the vampire perceives humans however that is not the case. I know the narrator is supposed to be omniscient but even then you’re telling the story of Kira which we already know to be human you don’t need to tell us she’s human 3 thousand times per chapter. Some other things that I had an issue with were the many many many spelling mistakes and errors. In one of the make out scenes with Kira and the vampire queen it says “Carmilla grabbed the hands that reached for her pants, pulling them above her excited prey’s head”, for one thing this sentence just confused the hell out of me I assume the author meant to say shirt and not pants as later on in the scene it says Carmilla takes off Kira’s jean. These mistakes are so elementary and could have easily been caught if the author had done some more rereads of her manuscript or even had beta readers read it. It’s really a shame cause this book had so much potential and I think it still has the capability of being good if the author just went back to it and did some heavy editing.

Okay, I never write reviews because I've never felt I've had to, but this book really frustrates me. The author has such an intresting premise, but constantly makes mistakes in the flow of the story, the grammar, and the actual telling of the story. I'll get into all of this, but firstly I really need to talk about the random ass time skips that happen out of nowhere, it made me think I was reading a Jane Austin book and not in the good way. No scene ever had a proper resolution, it was constantly like being edged hoping that something would actually happen between the characters and then never getting to see a full conversation or action before it was cut off. It was constant, like every chapter we were left hanging and then a time skip would happen and we would move on without actually seeing anything. It was so frustrating how often the author would get so caught up in their own monolog that they would forget what the scene was even about, then they would move on abruptly. There are so many things I could go on about but I want to talk about the actual story then the grammar.

Okay, I have alot of issues with the story itself, there are alot of plot holes, like alot. One I thought of off the top of my head was the whole imprinting thing and how if a vampire imprints on a creature then by law they cannot be hurt by another Vampire. Firstly, that was taken straight out of twilight along with the whole finding out your getting married scenario. But anyways, later on in the book Wolfgang proceeds to shoot Kira many times with his gun and potentially killing her. Now, because the author so half-hazardly threw in a sentence without much though or care they broke their own rules in their world, without even realizing it, there was no consequence for that chacters actions. Furthermore, many things are not actually explained or poorly explained, for example, the whole imprinting thing between Carmilla whilst being (partially?) sired to Eona through the sigma but it also having diffrent levels and locks? That as all really messy, especially when Kira got that vision of the vampire side of her out of nowhere and then she started getting powers to then use them on the bridge and getting that powerup, it just felt like deus ex machina and there was no build up, or poorly written build up. Oh, I almost forgot about the whole "game" thing, the author never explained what that was, was it supposed to be a name for vampire politics, if so why was it personified so much, also we never got so see what that actually entailed, there was no world building outside of the main family (I forget the name) which is weird considering the narrator seems to be omniscient. That is another problem if found with the book, it felt although the writing was switching between a third person pov and a first person pov, that was confusing to follow, but that may just be me. 🤷‍♀️

And I know I shouldn't say anything about grammer considering this review probably has alot of mistakes from word choice to flow to sentence structure and ect. But my God, it was mistake after mistake on every page. I couldn't even consider this a finished book, it felt like the author only used spell check on their final draft, like only changes the sleeping of the red underlined words and called it a day. I don't write very much and certainly not books but geez I couldn't focus on the story because ever other line my brain was thinking about how to reword it to make it actually coherent and cohesive.

This book feels like a draft of a book or maybe even an outline, but it certainly does not feel like a finished product. (Nor somthing that's worth 8.90CAD for the ebook or 19.07CAD for the paper back) Which is why reading it feels so dissapointing, the author has potential to make a really good book, they have an intresting premise and story to tell, but they fail at doing so in every way that matters. From the grammar to the storytelling to the plot, everything is messy and unrefined, so dear author if you are reading this do not think I am sitting on your book just to shit on your book, you have an intresting story you could create, but you haven't gotten there yet, so I encourage you to do so. Go back and edit this book, make the plot easier to follow, have the chacters change in realistic ways and don't forget to make terms up, it's your world and your story you can do and create anything you wish to, don't take quotes from other tales and spin them as your own, creat new words to describe supernatural or mundane things, be original and please, please, please, re read your work out loud or hire an editor, or something. Anyways, you should continue to write and create cool worlds just put more care into them. Cheers.

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, it just doesn't seem fair to do with the errors it currently has. Beyond the errors, this book is amazing!

Okay, so this book. I have so many thoughts about this book. I tried to spread this book over a few nights, but then read the last 100 pages at the same time because I needed to know how it ended.

The major thing I have to mention is that the book is full of grammar errors and typos and such. If that’s something that will catch you up, this might not be something that you want to read. However, if you’re like me (grew up reading fanfiction) you might be used to reading around typos and errors.

Beyond that, I thought this book was completely fantastic! I often get caught up in SFF type books because of the sheer amount of worldbuilding that’s usually involved, but I didn’t have that here. Rather I found that I was hanging on to every word in hopes of knowing more about this world and these characters.

The characters! Easily my favorite part of the book. Each of these characters felt fleshed out. My personal favorite thing is that none of these characters were just good or just evil. Each character, and the world itself for that matter, is full of shades of grey. Everything is complex. There are so many motivations and even motivations/backstories that you don’t fully know by the end of this book. I love these characters and I want the best for them. Can’t wait to read more with them. Without spoilers I do want to mention that there was one character who I don’t trust. I can’t wait to see whether or not I will by the end of the series.

Personally, I think this book is worth reading based on the story alone. This story was so intriguing to me. There was a constant sense of immediacy and wondering as more people and machinations were revealed. There were things that were hinted at but not revealed until key moments of the book. Quick note: my only other pet peeve with this book is that I would have liked different formatting for dreams and flashbacks. Not a big deal, just a personal preference. But seriously, this plot is amazing. There were twists I saw coming and others that I didn’t. I started this book absolutely backing Kira the entire way and loving her. At some point my main fondness and love switched over to Carmilla. I still loved Kira, but…Carmilla.

I really, truly love this book. I thought it was absolutely fantastic and, if it gets polished, this book could easily be one of the best things I’ve ever read. Heck, even with the errors it’s still probably one of the best books ever. If you can deal with the issues, please give this book a chance.

I am not a vampire book connoisseur but I will say this story/plot is exciting and I really liked it. I would give it a 4 or even a 5 but for the editing errors. I did not like Camilla, Eona would be my choice of lover for Kira but the twists and turns of who knows what, and the power plays laid out are intriguing. A Solid cliffhanger to start book 2.

AMAZING READ

Found this recommendation on TikTok and was NOT disappointed! The author really made you feel for the main character as well as the side characters and it left me wanting more! I could not put it down even if I tired. Literally after I am done writing this I am gonna jump straight into the second book!

I’m not really sure where to start with this book. There were parts that completely captivated me, but there were also parts that I had to fight to get through. Though inconsistent, I might have rated this book 3 stars if it hadn’t been for the clear lack of editing. There were far too many grammatical errors to count, and it would be impossible to read the book without noticing. From spelling errors to punctuation errors to accidental switches in the narrative perspective, I personally felt that this book was lacking the professionalism I expect from published books. With all that being said, if you really enjoy vampire books with a human vs. vampire component to them and if you don’t mind the typos, definitely give the book a try. While at times I did enjoy the plot, I don’t think I enjoyed this book enough to continue reading the series. I might consider returning to the series in the future as the plot is fairly interesting and I really enjoy Carmella’a character, but for now, I think I am going to leave it here.

First of all, to understand why I gave this a four and not something lower, this is a fanfic. Specifically, it's a remake of Vampire Knight for lesbians. As that is a favorite manga/anime, this already is off to a great start.

That said, it does give some leeway around the so MANY errors. I refuse to believe an editor ever saw something like this without an aneurysm. It was obviously typed in haste with auto-correct on full blast, and then it wasn't re-read before being submitted. Only that irritating tool replaces decent words with nonsensical ones. For example: I can't tell if the main opposition in the story is named The Reich or The Reign as both were used interchangeably throughout. I'm sure the author knows, but without fixing the reader is left guessing.

Still, the plot is wonderful and really draws you in. The characters have such depths that pull on the heartstrings. It's well worth the read, so long as you're able to gloss over mistakes.

Well this one is going on the DNF shelf for now. I might go back and give it another try..maybe, but not right now. The premise for this book sounded interesting but the writing kept me from really getting into it. I am no grammar expert but this desperately needed some heavy editing. There were commas missing, periods that should have been commas, and sentence structure that was so convoluted that the entire purpose and direction was lost. When you have to reread sentences two or three times to try and figure out what the writer is trying to tell you, yeah, that’s going to really bog down the flow and reader experience. For those that made it through the book, I applaud you, I’ll pass for now though but haven’t shut the door completely.

Has a lot of potential

I really loved the concept for the book and the love triangle played out perfectly. Seeing Kira grow through out the book and become more confident was great. The world created was another plus, and I found myself curious and wanting to know more around why the vampires attacked.

As others have mentioned the book needs a good editor, with a good edit this could have easily been a four star book. One of the most noticeable examples was the name of the enemy group switches frequently and I would end up focusing more on that then on the scene I was reading.

Its....difficult, 3.5 maybe 4
I loved the characters, I enjoyed what little world we got but the worst thing going for this book is the typos, grammar, and page spacing. Just, it hurts to read in some spots. You can tell what words the author meant (Squeeze instead of sneeze), its hard to follow who is speaking sometimes or if ANYONE is speaking or if its internal thoughts. This was a good read, I enjoyed it; but I don't think I'd recommend it as is. I'm GOING to read the next in the series and hope it improves.

right from the beginning, i could tell that it wasn't going to tickle my fancy BUT I STILL HAD FAITH BECAUSE IT WAS SAPPHIC. unfortunately i was wrong and nearly had an aneurysm.
though the plot wasn't entirely my thing, what did it for me was the writing. yes i can't really talk because i write my reviews in lowercase, but with all sincerity, this book needs to go through a few rounds of editing. the time skips, the sentences, the phrasing, none of it made sense to me. also the kindle formatting was weird.

Excellent story but the word usage and grammar cause unnecessary pitfalls

This.is an amazing story that is near perfect in development and execution. However, fowl and foul are not the same. The point does get across when the readers brain makes the connection to what the author means. There are free editing programs that would fix this but over all it is totally worth the read.

OH MY GOD!!

I'm going to start by saying I'd love to hate the ending! How dare this author rip out my heart and throw it away!!! If I had to say anything bad about this book I would say that it needs to have a editor go over again to fix minor issues (in no way does it take away from the story) and the e-book format sucks.

I have every intention of coming back for more for both this series and future books by this author! (Even if she leaves my heart bloody raw every time😂)

This book has the characters, the plot, the story buildup, and the curve-balls. It has all the ingredients to be a great book, the only thing keeping it down is the writing. There are multiple grammatical errors and the wrong punctuation was being used, or there was no punctuation at all. It also gets very repetitive at certain points, things were being recited that were already explained on the last page. Other than those problems, I think it's a really great book.

Not a bad read, you can tell it's a self published book. It took me a while to get through it because of some spelling/grammar errors but overall fairly decent. Fair warning, this story doesn't flow very well it feels like it jumps around a lot and you missed something here and there. I am interested to see where the rest of this story goes as I saw there's 1 or 2 mote in this series, but I'm gonna take a break and read something else before jumping into the next book

Best vampire story since Gideon the Ninth!

Ok storywise this book is a solid 5 stars!. Numerous grammar errors, keep me from giving it five stars. But the story and characters are strong enough to make you want to finish anyway. Which is very rare for me! If the author were to invest in a good editor this could easily be a SIX star book!

wow

What an interesting story about love, trust, survival,
family and worthiness. You begin to question truths and truths become lies, or rather truths omitted because of valor or responsibility. This story is a fight for not only what is right or wrong but how the heart and the mind struggles with.. Which will win?

Just finished book 1 and got to say though it was blanketed in plenty of f/f intimate moments throughout the complete book. It also did a splendid job of sorting out Kira's blank spots in her metaphysical changes. Plus got share a spoiler! What a classic move to split the trio and put them in different houses! Just started book 2.

This book is everything! It's a story that leaves you breathless for more, swooning one minute and on the edge of your seat the next. The characters come to life on the page, and the world building is out of this world. The plot, the fantasy, the characters - Kiss of the Immortal is ingenious. Read it, submerge yourself into Kira's exciting world of The Game. It's only just beginning.

I love the story and wish I could give this book 5 stars. However, I had a hard time with some of the sentence structures. The miss-spellings. Fragmented sentences. So many different issues. I’m not an English teacher, so I’m not even sure what to name them, but damn it was hard following the story at a few points. The plot saved this book.

There's quite a few editing and grammar issues which is to be expected for a newer independent author. The storyline is very different than normal vampire books especially lesbian ones that tend to focus either on just the story or just the romance and leaves the other lacking.

3*

This is a very frustrating review to write. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, the build up, however, the mistakes in this book make it very difficult to read. I found myself rereading paragraphs over and over again.

I’m going to continue with the series, because like I said, the actual plot is a good one. A good edit and this book would be amazing.

Like others have said, the editor (if there was one) needs to be fired. However, if you can get past the awful type o's, its actually a really good book. I'm hoping #2 has less errors.
