Colter Shaw #3

The Final Twist

Rate this book
"The master of ticking-bomb suspense" (People) returns with a devilishly good thriller, and reward seeker Colter Shaw's most personal case to date.

Just hours after the harrowing events of The Goodbye Man, Colter Shaw is hot on the trail of a missing person whose disappearance he desperately hopes to explain: his own father.

Following the enigmatic clues his father left behind, Shaw explores one site after another, seeing clearly for the first time what strange business his father was up to--and what dangerous people he was working against. But when Shaw is caught by these same people, he's rescued by an intruder: his own older brother Russell, from whom he's been estranged for more than a decade. After saving Shaw, Russell stays on, and the brothers--both very different and oddly similar--join forces to identify the family.

This novel is a race against time to both find the family and to pursue leads to solve a decades-old mystery.

Jeffery Deaver certainly illustrates his credentials as a experienced, skilled and exciting thriller writer with this, the third full length outing for the restless reward seeker, Colter Shaw. This book ties the threads of the death of Shaw's father, Ashton, who along with his academic mother, Mary Dove, had raised him, his older brother, Russell, and sister, Dorian, as expert survivalists at their isolated compound. After previous events, it is now clear that Ashton was murdered by the villainous BlackBridge Corporate Solutions and its CEO Ian Helms, an organisation that Ashton and others had tried to bring down to little avail. BlackBridge has aided clients, with their amoral and deadly Urban Improvement Plan (UIP), by flooding areas with drugs so that the likes of developers could purchase land and buildings dirt cheap and facilitate gerrymandering by narcotics for political clients.

Shaw is in San Francisco at his father's safe house in Alvarez, a base for him as he seeks retribution for Ashton by taking up the fight against BlackBridge as he searches for a courier bag of evidence hidden by the murdered would be whistleblower, Amos Gahl. Two of BlackBridge's operatives, Ebbit Droon and the older Irena Braxton, have Shaw in their sights, and in one particularly tight corner, Shaw is rescued by a familiar, if estranged figure from tthe past. This is an ally that is to prove invaluable time and time again, against BlackBridge and in the race against time to find an entire family set to be ruthlessly wiped out, unfortunately the only clue they have are the initials SP, information found in a note in the pocket of a dead bad guy. Despite having more than enough on his plate, including the fate of the country, Shaw wouldn't be Shaw if he wasn't looking for a missing person, and here it is Tessy, the missing daughter of poor single mother, Maria Vasquez.

With the underlying story of the mystery of Shaw's father, Ashton, tied up and the important family reconciliation that materialises, I am wondering if Deaver intended this to be a trilogy and that this is the last in the series. I am hoping not, as I think in Shaw he has a winning protagonist with his analytical approach, using the probability technique to guide how he moves forward. This is a wonderfully enthralling and entertaining fast paced thriller, jam packed with suspense and twists, that will appeal to many crime and thriller readers. Familiar characters return, including Victoria Lesston, who has restless qualities that mirror Shaw, his efficient private investigator, Charlotte 'Mack' McKenzie and the ex-FBI Tom Pepper, Shaw's rock climbing friend. Highly Recommended. Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC.

This is the third full length novel I have read in this series as well as a couple of novellas and although I enjoy Jeffery Deaver books I have struggled to really get into Colter Shaw. I really enjoyed the second book ‘The Goodbye man’ but the others have failed to capture my imagination. I am a big fan of the Lincoln Rhyme books but I think it is probably time for me to give up on Colter Shaw. It is obvious from the reviews I have read that these books are very popular with other readers but I failed to make that connection.

Colter Shaw is once again looking for a missing person but this time he has the added incentive that it might explain the disappearance of his own father. He starts by following the clues his father left behind which leads him into trouble only to be rescued by his brother Russell. Having not seen each other for ten years they decide to continue the search together.

An ok read but not in my top 10 Deaver novels.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Character Colter Shaw began strong and finished weak. New discovery does little to enhance this shoot-em-up story. The result, too little too late. 3 of 10 stars

A long-time fan of Deaver’s quirky, twisty mysteries I was pleased to see the introduction of a new crime fighter, Colter Shaw in The Never Game. Shaw finds missing people, ostensibly for the rewards offered by friends or family members, though he often fails to collect the this. It also kicked off what was to be an ongoing quest for information regarding the death of his rather odd survivalist father. Book 2, The Goodbye Man, expanded the mystery regarding his father and brought a new case for Shaw, as he entered the enclave of a cult leader in an attempt to ‘rescue’ someone who had been tempted in.

This third book promised to tie up loose ends as Shaw continued to chase down clues that his father had left behind. We are re-introduced to a group of odd but sinister characters who are in some way tied to his father’s death. And Shaw’s brother makes a welcome appearance to aid Colter in his quest - it’s pretty much all action from the start. It’s good fun too and feels a little tongue-in-cheek as one twist follows another in this helter-skelter race to finally unearth the truth.

There’s an additional element to this story, that of the race to save a family they learn is in peril of execution by a hit man, but this feels a little bolted on and unnecessary to me. The main story is however satisfying, in a very Deaveresque way. You know that nothing will be quite as it seems and that slight of hand and general trickery is the name of the game, so the ‘surprises’ aren’t really that surprising. But the interesting cast of misfits and the well maintained pace of the whole caper was enough to maintain my interest throughout.

I’m not sure if we’ll see Shaw again or whether this is the end of the line for this character. I think his race is run, but as always with this writer you never know quite what’s around the corner.

My thanks to HarperCollins and NetGalley for supplying a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Following on from book #2 (“The Goodbye Man”) in the Colter Shaw series Colter is now hell bent on finding his father’s ‘treasure’ which we have learned is some paperwork that will expose some corporate giant(s) of wrongdoing.

The one reward money job Colter takes on during this very involved personal endeavor is barely a blip in the story.

Colter’s brother Russell who Colter has not seen or heard from in YEARS turns up out of the blue just in time to save Colter from attackers about to kill him. Now they are working as a team.

It appears that Russell is employed by some clandestine government agency and he has his own ‘group’.

There is all the information you will need if you decide to go off the grid and live the survivalist life style.😕

I didn’t care for the first two books in the series and I didn’t care for this one either.

Twist After Twist
Review of the G.P Putnam's Sons eBook edition (May 11, 2021) released simultaneously with the hardcover and audiobook.

But Shaw believed there was another reason, a more important one, that Ashton had brought the eagle to San Francisco. It was the clearest message yet that Father wanted Colter, of all his children, to carry on his mission.

In a way this novel marks the conclusion of a Colter Shaw trilogy. Both of the preceding two novels had flashbacks and early clues towards the unsolved death and likely murder of Colter's father Ashton Shaw. With A Final Twist, that storyline comes to a conclusion.

The clues now lead Shaw to San Francisco and the search for a hidden object which is also being sought by a conspiracy of corporate culprits and their hired thugs. I can't get very spoilery about that but the object is something which would have a dramatic effect on politics and business in California. There are so many opposing forces in this one, that Colter needs allies and several surprises do appear, again of whom it would be spoilery to say anything further.

If anything, this book was kind of over the top with the number of trapped situations, sudden escapes, near-death reveals, surprise resurrections, sleight-of-hand deceptions etc. which were used. Sometimes in media res situations gave us flash-forwards for which the background and the context was only explained a chapter or even half a book later. For example, a character named "Nita" appears late in the book out of nowhere, and I had to stop and think "Who is Nita?". A Kindle word search revealed that she was the woman at the immediate beginning of the book whom Colter had been in the process of rescuing.

In any case, this was a satisfactory conclusion to the trilogy and I think it was fortunate that I read the 3 novels right after each other, rather than a year apart. So many of the background characters were more easily memorable this way.

I've been reading the Colter Shaw series after being introduced to the character in the recent Tracker TV series. I have already read (listened to) the 4th novel Hunting Time (2022) through an Audible Sale, so currently there are no further books in the pipeline. I can't imagine Deaver has retired the character though, given the likelihood of increased popular interest from the TV adaptation.

Soundtrack
There was only the briefest of mentions about Colter Shaw's interest in guitar players which said: "Shaw’s own personal favorite guitarist was the Australian Tommy Emmanuel, who seemed to pry an entire orchestra from his git-fiddle." I had never heard of that musician previously, so had to look him up. It really is very stunning acoustic guitar playing. You can hear extended samples of his playing on YouTube here or on Spotify here.

Colter Shaw book 3 and bound to be less about the rewardist part of the series. This time we get to find out why Colters' father died and what the big mystery is.
This time when Colter goes against a big cooperation hé get help from a big Amish looking fellow which turns out to be his big brother Russel who looks to work for some unknown agency that protects somebody or a nation. It turns out that the Shaw brothers are a force to be reckoned with as the greedy big cooperation discovers and when the dust settles it is the Shaw brothers that remain standing.
A nice thriller with a big mcguffin for center of the attention but it is the twists that make the book readable and enjoyable.
Mr Deaver does show his trademark thrillerwriter skills for the enjoyment of his readers.
The tv show Tracker so far has been less of a conspiracy driven show but we Will see. I think the rewardist part of Colter Shaw should be more center in the next novel I hope.

The Final Twist is the third instalment in the Colter Shaw Thriller series, set in San Francisco, California. Colter Shaw is a professional reward-seeker who finds people “good ones and bad, those lost because of fate and circumstances and those lost because they chose to be lost.” Just hours after the harrowing events of The Never Game and The Goodbye Man, Colter Shaw finds himself in San Francisco at a storage safe house, where he has taken on the mission his father, Ashton, began years ago before his untimely death: finding a missing courier bag containing evidence that will bring down a corporate espionage firm responsible for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of deaths. The damning information would be like hitting the payload and would almost guarantee the destruction of BlackBridge Corporate Solutions. A former researcher at the firm, the late Amos Gahl, was the one risking his life to whistleblow by smuggling information out of the nefarious business and Colter has the assistance of his estranged brother Russell Shaw. Russell has a team of his own and wants to help bring down a firm that has acted with complete impunity up until now.

Following the enigmatic clues his father left behind, Colter plays cat and mouse with the company's sadistic enforcers, as he speeds from one gritty neighbourhood in the City by the Bay to another. But there are not just the enforcers to contend with; there is CEO and founder of BlackBridge, Ian Helms, and his ruthless fixer, Ebbitt Droon as well as Irene Braxton, a grandmother with a background in murder. Suddenly, the job takes on a frightening urgency and its success will hinge on the Colter brothers pulling the wool over the firm’s eyes for long enough to find their treasure: Only by finding the courier bag containing the mysterious Endgame Sanction of 1906 can he expose the company and stop the murder of an entire family slated to die in forty-eight hours, as confirmed by a note discovered on the dead body of a bad guy; the kill order inconveniently refers to those living on borrowed time only as ”SP” and ”SP’s” whole family unit. With the help of an unexpected figure from his past, and with the enforcers closing the net, Shaw narrows in on the truth--and learns that the courier bag contains something unexpected: a secret that could only be described as catastrophic.

With evil machinations such as flooding selected neighbourhoods with drugs to drive down the price of real estate, BlackBridge couldn't care less about those who may suffer as a result. Time after time there are near misses, will they manage to decimate this company once and for all? This is a riveting, compulsive and complex thriller filled with dozens of twists and reversals, misleading clues/misdirection, red herrings, double-fakes and dizzying baits-and-switches and is a nonstop race against time to save the family and to keep the devastating secret Shaw has uncovered from falling into the wrong hands. Told solely from Colter’s perspective making it much more immersive, the conspiracy from previous instalments continues with crisp, tense action scenes, intrigue, complications, red hot danger, mystery, surprises and deceptions aplenty. An engrossing and cleverly woven thriller that is both devilish and devious with an interesting, well-developed hero at its heart. Exciting, highly entertaining and thoroughly recommended escapism.

An interesting choice of title from the man who is the master of multiple plot twists. Sadly, it seems to suggest that this the third book in this exciting series could also be the last.
This is a far more fast-moving series than the author’s best known one. Hardly surprising, considering that Lincoln Rhyme is a paraplegic and Colter Shaw is action man personified.
Colter is still searching for evidence to bring down the corrupt BlackBridge company which was responsible for his father Ashton’s death. He soon finds out that they are in the pay of someone even more powerful and dangerous who have ordered a hit on an unknown family two days later.
However, in his most desperate hour of need, Colter receives help from the last person he ever expected to see.
Once again, Mr Deaver has turned out an intricately-plotted, nailbiting thriller with occasional flashes of dark humour which was a joy to read from beginning to end.
I truly hope this isn’t the last we hear of Colter Shaw. This series is too good to lose.

In the past stories of Shaw, we found that his father, a survivalist, had been killed by a mysterious group. In Final Twist, we see the full story develop as Colter teams up with his older brother, Russell to take on a Billionaire who has plans on taking over the political landscape of California by any means necessary.

Using the skills taught by his father and his own ‘Award’ business, Colter fights enemies on all sides as they hunt for a document that will change American politics forever.

With more twists and turns then a trip through the streets of San Francisco, this story is exciting, full of suspense with all the action an armchair adrenaline junkie could dream about.

I enjoyed this series so far; it's a fun read, but not very believable, which is not really a requirement to me for light reading. It's similar to comic book super heroes in a way. It seems to play to our emotions a lot, taking us down a path that seems disastrous, then bringing up a miracle to solve the problem - the miracle often being that Shaw already thought of what was going to happen and planned for it. An example (made up by me) is when a character seems to have been killed, and the book takes us down a path to make us believe it's so, then we find out it was actually a dummy after all.

There's also heart-warming bits to give us a temporary high to make up for the lows. And everyone lives happily ever after, except some bad guys.

Who is Colter Shaw? He takes jobs that pay rewards. Wrestler in college. Son of a survivalist. Motorcycle rider. Rock climber. Lives in Winnebago while on the road, which is most of the time due to his job. Likes to calculate his chances of success in percentages.

Colter is looking for a hidden bag of evidence to bring down a corporate espionage firm called Black Bridge. This job is not for money. It's personal. His dead father is the one who hid the evidence. Colter's brother who he hasn't seen in over 10 years shows up at an opportune time to help.

I enjoyed meeting Colter's brother Russell. I had a few moments of my attention wandering at first because I wasn't engaged with the Black Bridge story line. However, the action picked up in the second half and I became much more interested.

If you haven't read the first two books in this series, I think you will enjoy Colter and his family more if you read those prior to this one.

I like how Colter seems to pick the lost causes for a lot of his reward cases. I feel like those people need the help more than other offering a lot more money. As Colter was looking into this missing girl it seemed like things quickly spun out of control. The great thing about it was how Colter ended up meeting up with his brother. Sure things were all kinds of awkward a bunch of times, but it was also odd how much the two men were similar and wanted to fix what was wrong. They might have come after things from different end, but the result was the same. Colter actually needed his brother's help more than a couple of times, he had skills and resources Colter didn't have. By the end, I was glad that they found the girl and the bad guys were dealt with. I was also glad to see the surprise visit at the end, it needed to happen.

A trilogy conclusion perhaps?

The third instalment is definitely not the time to start reading this series. Colter Shaw is out to solve his father’s murder and tie up all the lose ends Deaver masterfully created in the earlier reads. Colter Shaw is the same but different in this book - which seems to be the reason some have disliked the read. I read it anticipating this may be the last book and it changed everything for me as I wasn’t looking for the same pace or storyline.

Shaw’s nomadic lifestyle is on hold, his risk-assessment percentages are not as prevalent but if this is the ‘Final Twist’ then I have all the answers and for that I am satisfied.

The third full length Colter Shaw novel adds a new layer of depth to the protagonist and possibly sends the series in a slightly different arc. Readers familiar with Colter Shaw are aware of his unusual upbringing. Raised with his siblings in a remote compound in the Sierra Nevadas, Shaw has fused the survivalist skills of his reclusive father with the humanity of his academic mother. He is a reward seeker who finds people who may or may not want to be found. Shaw is guided by an idiosyncratic probability theory that assesses risk and assigns percentages to his actions. Combining this analytic schematic with a sense of compassion, Shaw navigates outside the established bureaucracies as he balances his moral compass with the gritty tasks associated with his vocation.

Shaw has arrived in San Francisco on a personal mission.Years ago, his father had suffered a mysterious death.Previous cases have made it clear that his father was murdered by the rapacious BlackBridge Corporation. Shaw is following a trail of cryptic clues that could lead to information that would destroy BlackBridge and end their nefarious scheme to alter the landscape of political engagement in California. Pursuing this serpentine trail ,Shaw fends off threats from his corporate adversary and counters a plot that has tentacles dating back to the 1906 SanFrancisco earthquake.

Deaver enriches his plot by his descriptive tour of SanFrancisco’s neighborhoods as he inserts historical nuggets describing the evolution of the locales. The flavor of the novel is slightly different than the previous two books, employing more breathtaking action and less deductive risk assessment than previous plots. There is also more of an emphasis on rounding out the Shaw family backstories and deepening an understanding of Shaw’s personality. The conclusion of the novel is filled with the dramatic surprises one comes to expect in Deaver’s books. In Colter Shaw, Deaver has created a character who stands only behind Lincoln Rhyme in scope and interest. I am uncertain of the direction that Colter Shaw will follow in the future. I am anxiously anticipating his continued journey. 4.5 stars

I'm not loving this particular series as much as the Lincoln Rhyme series. I like this author. He does many things well. I like his character development when it came to the MC. He can also keep a story moving with multiple threads. He can paint a pretty picture.

But this one seemed a little on the predictable side and yet at times it also felt a little too fantastical. Both of those things are not my favorite. And Colter Shaw's journey is always strewn with luck and close calls.....like all the time. So I only have 3 stars for this one.

This was a hard read: I kept falling asleep or just losing interest. It's a very weak, generous 3 stars, for me.
I thought this story was just plain corny. No sophistication at all and little apparent research on the subject matter of the book, but plenty of factoids on SF and the Bay Area pulled from the pages of Lonely Planet [lol]. A third of the pages could be cut out and you would never miss them.
Good for a quick read, if you are bored and you can borrow the book, as you can scan pages at a time and miss nothing. But don't waste your money buying it!

I became a real Deaver fan after reading The Bone Collector. The next 2 or 3 books in the Lincoln Rhyme series were good, but as Deaver's fame rose, his interest in writing a good, credible novel seemed to wane. IMHO, he is just writing for the money now, riding on his name and past glory.

I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins HarperFiction for an advance copy of The Final Twist, the third novel to feature reward man Colter Shaw.

Colter is in San Francisco following his dead father’s cryptic clues to find the information that will take down the nefarious corporation BlackBridge, the corporation that murdered his father and has done untold damage to countless citizens.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Final Twist, which is a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. It should be noted that this is not a stand-alone thriller and concentrates on the conspiracy that is developed in books one and two with little else going on.

The novel is told from Colter’s point of view and slips back in time occasionally to events from the past. I’m not sure if it due simply to the formatting of the arc I received but this was not well signposted and I found it confusing.

The plot is fairly typical of Mr Deaver’s writing with twists galore, plenty of action and a whole load of misdirection. I never knew what to believe and what to discount, because, even with a healthy dose of cynicism and experience of the author’s mindset, I kept getting caught out and fooled. It’s both clever and engrossing. The conspiracy at the heart of the trilogy seems far fetched, but then you look at each piece and none of them are far from actual events so maybe not so far fetched and that’s scary.

Colter Shaw is an interesting protagonist and I would gladly see more of him in his day job. He was brought up by survivalist parents so she has a lot of unusual skills, a preternatural situational awareness and an analytical mind. These skills help him uncover the conspiracy and in his “normal” life of finding people for the reward money.

The Final Twist is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Colter Shaw #3 - Jeffery Deaver's newest protagonist, and.the 3rd book of the series. Colter has recently discovered the conspiracy behind his father's death and the contribution of the shadowy organisation - BlackBridge, behind it. Led by the clues left behind by his father, Colter follows the activities of BlackBridge and goes on to recover the documents that can bring BlackBridge down. But no, there's an unforeseen twist here! What happens next??

Well, the Collter Shaw series just keeps getting better.

This one offers a twisty and complicated plot that simply keeps you engaged all the way through.

I usually hate quirkiness, but Colter’s mix of math, ethics, and the ability to completely incapacitate a man in seconds is just a blast. I also loved meeting Russell and – note to the author – he could totally rock his own series!

Tons of danger and mysteries that just demand to be solved.

Love!

4.5 stars, actually.

This action-packed adventure, the third in a series featuring Colter Shaw, begins as the self-described "reward seeker" is trying to follow clues left by his late father, Ashton, a well-educated man who, with Colter's mother Mary Dove and their children, left mainstream life to opt for a survivalist existence. Over the years, Ashton fought against what he considered to be corrupt corporations, including one named BlackBridge Corporate Solutions. One of that company's employees, it seems, not only turned up evidence of some kind of serious wrongdoing, but stole it; that man, now dead, apparently hid that evidence and Colter hopes to find it.

But almost before his investigation gets started, Colter is attacked by some very bad guys; on the verge of being killed and bringing the series to an abrupt end, he's saved at the last minute by a man who turns out to be his brother Russell. That comes as a total shock to Colter, who hasn't seen or heard from his brother in more than 10 years. The two of them meeting up after all this time and getting to re-know each other (well, as much as their secretive lives will allow) is a big part of the story that follows.

As all this is sorted out, Colter gets an assignment on his day job, which basically is a finder of missing persons; in this case, it's a daughter who's gone missing. The reward money is minuscule - the mother can scrape together $1,750 at most - but he sympathizes and agrees to take the case (thus providing a secondary storyline for the book). Most everything else is action, all underscored by flashbacks to the intense, hard-core survival training the brothers got from their late father.

So what prompted me to give this book fewer than the five stars I gave the other two (The Never Game and The Goodbye Man)? Because for the first third or so it somehow felt disjointed - like I was missing something and couldn't quite figure out what. But then I realized it's been a while since I read the previous book - and if I'm honest, I have to admit that because I read so many books in a given year (141 in 2020), once I reach that final page and finish writing my review of any given one, I've forgotten most of what was between the pages. The good news is that I went back and reread those earlier reviews, and most of what I was reading now became much more clear. My advice, then, is this: If you haven't read at least one of the first two books in this series, do it before you tackle this one. You won't be sorry, because they're both terrific.

In the end, this one, too, is an exciting, well-written tale with an entertaining plot and intriguing characters that left me looking forward to the next installment. Thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for providing me with a pre-release copy to read and review.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series based on Colter Shaw and the legacy that his father left him. His Dad became convinced a big corporation would stop at nothing to achieve their criminal objectives. In the process some of his Father’s colleagues died suspiciously and so the Shaw family relocated for their own safety and lived off grid.

Years later Colter is using his survivalist skills to work as a reward agent, including, finding missing children for desperate parents.

However, he hasn’t lost sight of his father’s quest to find evidence against the company that ultimately killed his dad and will not rest until he finishes his dad’s mission.

Events take him to San Francisco which forms a great backdrop and a dangerous location for this action thriller. The writing is fresh and compelling. It maintains your interest in short chapters and competing plot directions with a range of larger than life, but believable characters.

Colter is ready to risk everything to gain revenge and closure of this torrid business group that continues to kill indiscriminately. He is confronted by enemies who will not rest until they eliminate any evidence against them and who always plays dirty. When they ruthlessly threaten to murder a whole family Colter has need for support which he gets from an unlikely source.

The bottom line is he must succeed not just for past events but as his whole extended family is now threatened due to his involvement.

Griping a an original plot; drawing on threats from recent cases Colter Shaw had been involved with, we find a determination to overcome and finish the task his father left him.

Facing a “Bond like villain”, rich and powerful, we see Shaw thinking on his feet to take down his nemesis. The action is intense and the story remains fast-paced to the last page.

Loved the story; hated the story telling process. First, the previous book is recapped for the first 50 pages or so. While it is difficult to sometimes write a serial book, no one should spend so much time to recap in a follow on book. I almost gave up on the book!

Then there is the back and forth in time. I am not a fan of that either.

Finally, the story would go through an event, then 25 pages later there would be “gotcha” explanation of what really happened. I enjoy a good twist in a story, but over and over again?

Enjoyed the characters immensely but too much extraneous description about environment also was tiring. Skipped several unneeded paragraphs. Was the author writing for a certain number of pages or words?

Expected better from the previews. But the entire plot is full of incredulous situations and equally unbelievable outcomes. Good for a superficial read.

Chyba wiele osób oglądało albo słyszało o filmie ,,Kolekcjoner kości" w rolach głównych z Danzelem Washingtonem i Angielina Jolie. Film powstał na podstawie książki autorstwa Jeffery Deaver'a i jest pierwszym tomem serii z Lincolnem Ryhme i Amelią Sachs, która rozrosła się do 14 części.

W 2019 roku Jeffrey Deaver zaprezentował całkiem nową serią z łowcą nagród Colterem Shaw. W Polsce pierwszy tom tej serii ,,Gra w nigdy" nakładem Wydawnictwa Prószyński i S-ka wydano w 2020 roku, a w 2021 roku drugi tom ,,Do jutra". 14 czerwca 2022 roku premierę miał trzeci tom ,,Ostatni dowód".

Polecam!

I have been there from the very beginning with Jeffery Deaver. I’m talking about the many novels he wrote prior to his celebrated Lincoln Rhyme series that made him one of the most respected thriller writers in the business. THE FINAL TWIST is already the third installment in his latest series featuring the incredibly unique antihero, Colter Shaw.

If you asked Shaw to describe himself, he would probably say that he is a problem solver. He has built a life around seeking out jobs that involve rewards, not all of them above board. In this book we finally learn about the family history that made him this way. He is the son of Ashton Shaw, who was somewhat of a legend in his time and left behind several unsolved mysteries that he is now determined to solve.

In THE FINAL TWIST, Shaw dedicates himself to locating the one treasure that eluded Ashton --- though he has no idea what it is. When he was just 16, he found his father dead in desolate Echo Ridge. He has always held the nefarious group BlackBridge responsible for the murder. Those he has targeted include BlackBridge CEO Ian Helms; Ebbitt Droon, the company “facilitator” and vicious hit man; and Crema Braxton, an older but extremely dangerous woman. These individuals are just as interested in stopping Shaw as they were in shutting down his father.

It's not long before Shaw realizes that he can’t handle this task alone and finds help from an unlikely source: his older brother, Russell, who comes from a more paramilitary background and has a team equipped and ready to help. They tag-team on the mission to discover their father’s treasure, while Shaw continues to pick up reward assignments.

Once together, Shaw and Russell spend time in their father’s various safe houses around the San Francisco area, all while being pursued by the BlackBridge trio and their army of cronies. They learn that a family has been abducted and will be slaughtered if the treasure they are looking for is not found and handed over. Its revelation turns the novel into something akin to a Dan Brown story as ancient California history may rise up and have an incredible impact on the present and future of the entire state.

Deaver knows how to plot a thriller, and THE FINAL TWIST is no exception. Readers will be guessing right through to the ending, which is a satisfying one for the dynamic Shaw family while also leaving the door wide open for more adventures in the near future.

This was an awesome series with so much action you almost had to keep a scoreboard on which bad guy was up next. He always knew there was something his father was trying to tell him but died before he could. This man trained for many years to survive and survive he will. Jeffrey Deaver has penned another great book. If you've not read any of the Colter Shaw series, you need to get started.....you are behind.

ReedIII Quick Review: Excellent character with a worthy adventure that may have been a bit too complicated. Only for this reason, not as good as the first two Colter Shaw novels. Nice wrap to family drama from earlier novels.
