Doug Moench, is an American comic book writer notable for his Batman work and as the creator of Black Mask, Moon Knight and Deathlok. Moench has worked for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics and many other smaller companies; he has written hundreds of issues of many different comics, and created dozens of characters, such as Moon Knight. In 1973, Moench became the de facto lead writer for the Marvel black-and-white magazine imprint Curtis Magazines. He contributed to the entire runs of Planet of the Apes, Rampaging Hulk (continuing on the title when it changed its name to The Hulk!) and Doc Savage, while also serving as a regular scribe for virtually every other Curtis title during the course of the imprint's existence. Moench is perhaps best known for his work on Batman, whose title he wrote from 1983–1986 and then again from 1992–1998. (He also wrote the companion title Detective Comics from 1983–1986.)

Moench is a frequent and longtime collaborator with comics artist Paul Gulacy. The pair are probably best known for their work on Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu, which they worked on together from 1974–1977. They also co-created Six from Sirius, Slash Maraud, and S.C.I. Spy, and have worked together on comics projects featuring Batman, Conan the Barbarian and James Bond.

Moench has frequently been paired with the artist and inker team of Kelley Jones and John Beatty on several Elseworlds Graphic Novels and a long run of the monthly Batman comic.

Several of Moon Knight’s adventures are collected here in this volume. The first story is a two-issue arc from Werewolf by Night, where Marc Spector is employed to capture a werewolf and bring it back to a live, captive audience for $10,000. In the next adventure, Spider-Man and Moon Knight team up to infiltrate the underground of crime families. The last adventure is a journey through time with Keng the Conqueror, with both Keng and Moon Knight them chasing sacred artifacts of Khonshu that could re-write reality itself.

As per usual, the older stories didn’t age great but I really enjoyed the last one. I’m looking forward to reading more modern Moon Knight comics!

I bought this hoping to find out what fans like about the Moon Knight character, after heavily disliking the MCU series*.
After reading this selection of stories I still don't know how Marc Spector became an avatar of Khonshu, and I certainly haven't a clue why the MCU series gave him multiple personalities. 🤷‍♀️ But it was fun to read.

I feel like Moon Knight/Marc Spector went through a bunch of rewrites over the years as they were trying to figure out what to do with him and give him a niche. He starts off as a grey villain werewolf hunting mercenary, then turns into Batman-but-in-white and then BAM he's partnered with an Egyptian god outta nowhere. Interesting track record.

I'm hooked though. I'm gonna have to research which Moon Knight books to buy & read.

*short MCU series review: I liked Oscar Isaac's performance(s), but I hated the portrayal of mental illness and the overall plot was boring.

I had no idea that Moon Knight first appeared in Werewolf by Night. I guess it makes sense to have a Moon based character in a werewolf story, but so much of it is just bad dialogue and slugging each other back and forth. It's not good.

The next two stories are pretty bland as well and it's pretty clear that initially Moon Knight was kind of Marvel's generic answer to Batman. He's a rich mercenary with a loyal sidekick (Frenchie is more Alfred than Robin, but he still takes part in the adventures albeit in a minor role), he has a cape, gadgets, etc. Sure there are big differences as well, but c'mon -- he's a Batman-ish figure.

Until finally, we get the later version that I didn't know existed until recently. The one involving Egyptian myths and gods that's at least interesting, but still...

This is not the Moon Knight collection you're looking for. It's just a hodgepodge of stories thrown together to make a buck.

This one is a bit of a hit-and-miss for me in terms of selection of stories. It starts off with the 2-part first appearance of Moon Knight from the pages of Werewolf by Night - while this has its historical value, it's a bit harder to digest for a new reader since there's a lot of filler in-between involving characters that aren't MK related. Next up, a team-up with Spider-man which I found rather boring, a team-up with Daredevil which was ok, and an Acts of Evil story from Moon Knight Annual #1 (2019), which I quite liked (Moon Knights across different timelines, Kang the Conqueror, time-travel)

Aside from the last story, the other ones were just ok or meh - I suppose finding recent material that could be included in a Marvel-Verse book was difficult due to being too violent, but still think this could have been slightly better with a different choice of middle stories.

This was an ok collection that I got for cheap. Some of the stories were entertaining, but they were pretty run-of-the-mill open and close stories. I'm curious what went into the selection process for this one. Despite not being the most entertaining, obviously Moon Knight's first appearance makes sense. Past that, why not pull more from Moon Knight's various solo series rather than use guest appearances? I feel like there has to be issues in them that serve as solid character development/introduction rather than the old guest appearances chosen.

*3.5?

Surprisingly better than I thought it was going to be, but it was actually pretty cool looking back on some of the first and older Moon Kight comics and comparing to how the character is portrayed now. Very interesting.

DNF at about 55%. Much prefer the series starring Oscar Isaac and the way Moon Knight comes to be instead of this seventies/eighties comic slop. And I enjoy comics.

Dieser Band bietet einen guten, ersten Überblick über die verschiedenen Abenteuer des Moon Knight. Vier Sterne gibt es jedoch nur, da der Band recht kurz ist.

I actually read the English version of this, but it's not under Goodreads. Anyway, this was pretty good. It's comprised of 5 different Moon Knight stories from different periods, from his first comics to a more recent one with Kang the Conqueror. The stories are fine, but I'm not too in love with the ones he shares with Spider-Man and Daredevil. I thought this was a MOON KNIGHT collection. Why is he a secondary character in these two stories? Otherwise, pretty good. Recommended if you don't know anything about the Fist of Khonshu.
