Montana Hearts: 2-in-1 Edition with Matt and Luke

Rate this book
Two full-length, heart-pounding Western romances featuring New York Times bestselling author R.C. Ryan’s rugged cowboys of Montana.

Matt
Raised beneath the big Montana sky, Matt Malloy will do anything to protect the family ranch.. The last thing he needs is a big-city lawyer nosing around—even if she is the most beautiful woman he's ever seen… When a raging storm traps them inside his cabin for the night, one steamy kiss leads to another, sweeping them away with a force as wild and untamed as the land he loves. But when morning comes, will their differences keep them from finding the love of a lifetime?

Luke
Reckless. Stubborn. Solitary. That’s Luke Malloy in a nutshell—until being thrown from his horse forces him to accept a beautiful stranger’s help. Ingrid Larsen hopes the too-sexy-for-his-own-good cowboy will be in and out of her life in no time flat. But just as she’s beginning to trust him, a secret from her past threatens to tear them apart.

Thought I was going to love it. DID LOVE the family. Would love to have them as MY family. I liked most of the characters, especially the two main characters and the ranch and the horses but I got very frustrated with having to skim through so much repetitive dialog that did nothing to move the story forward. Made it about 100 pages in and just couldn’t waste any more time. DNF.

This took me FOREVER to read. Matt’s story didn’t hold my attention until closer to the end so I kept stopping and reading other things and forgetting about it. I didn’t want to leave it as unread so I pushed through. I enjoyed Luke’s story WAY more. More was going on and I didn’t feel it was as mindless or repetitive.
Also, side note. You can 100% tell an older lady wrote this book lmao.

Both books kept me locked in but book one takes the cake. Absolutely loved both FMC, independent but smart enough to accept help. Book 2 was everything Hopeless by Elsie Silver wanted to be. Perfect conditions and while a little messy at tying up loose ends, good book overall. Would recommend to anyone getting into romance genres.

This book is long but it is 2 in 1 so it is a tradeoff. Matt is the older brother and Luke is the middle brother, they must be read in order so as to keep the timeline consistent.

I enjoyed the entire family dynamic that was created and each character was built up with a backstory that made sense and was kept consistent throughout the books. The Malloy's are a down to earth but well to do family that houses multiple generations under one roof and are known in the town's parts.
As I have come to found in many modern romance novels there is always a suspenseful twist and in Matt's story involved quite a bit of physical violence that felt a bit overdramatic. In Luke's there was a twist that was a bit over the top but more realistic. In both stories the man is the knight in shining armor and protecting women who are smart but helpless. The men are both true gentlemen with manners and true-blue cowboys even if they aren't hands on every waking moment. But as in every town there are bad habits and bad people the beautiful landscape does not hide that, the book doesn't shy away from that and tells the story of what greed can do to someone.

The writing was easy flowing and sensical, kept the plot moving while also providing details of the town and property. It was enjoyable to be able to picture small town Montana and its surrounding wilderness while reading through. It helped to have had watched Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations Montana episode to aid in the exact foliage and landscape. Preferred Luke's story to Matt's even though Matt's was better written but dragged in parts with endless mirrored dialogue and a slow burn. Luke's story was hot and heavy with direct flirting leading into well..you know but lots of swoon worthy language was delivered through out his book. Wish we learned more about the mysterious death of their parents that kept being alluded to but never delved into. As well as the business that Matt's book opened with and was only briefly explained.

R.C. Ryan please if you're going to write about so much detail about delicious sounding food at least throw in a recipe or two!
