I’m an author of travel books who debuted in fiction in 2021, the year I won the European prize in the EACWP Flash Fiction competition with «The Caretaker,» a 100-word horror story.

Since then, in addition to the travel books in which I continue to collaborate, I have been a part of the Portuguese anthologies «Sangue Novo» (2021), with the short story «Praga», «Sangue» (2022), with the short story «Equilíbrio», and «Dead Letters: Episodes of Epistolary Horror» (2023), with the short story «Next of Kin.» In March 2022, I co-founded Fábrica do Terror, where I act as editor-in-chief. Occasionally, I collaborate with local magazines and non-fiction books with articles on Portuguese horror.

I don’t love this format. I do appreciate things being a bit more condensed but I’d like a little more information on important monuments and more info for what’s feasible in a time frame and suggestions on restaurants and tour companies.

Great book to flip through to see the main attractions of Portugal. A great short, to-the-point introduction with lots of beautiful pictures. Great for if you’re trying to figure out if a visit to Portugal fits with your travel goals. You’ll need additional resources to fully plan a trip.

I just spend a month in Portugal (though we didn't get north of Lisbon) and found this book to be modestly useful, in a "check out these highlights" sense. However, other Lonely Planet books we'd used for other trips seemed to have much more extensive listings of venues, like sites and restaurants with clear breakdowns of prices and times. This work seemed to breeze over a lot of those particulars, giving me the sense that you really have to supplement this with your phone for deeper peeks into what's what.

However true that might be in practice, in having read this book before we left and during our travels there, it felt thin on the details to me. Nice photos and nice general senses of the feelings for the various regions and the travel mainstays. This was more of a pocket guide than an in-depth dive; I think there might be a more extensive work, but an updated version wasn't available.

This is another version of Lonely Planet's books to help travelers plan a trip to Portugal. It would be particularly helpful to people traveling independently, by helping them build their trip to the best advantage. The book offers many colorful photos, (perhaps one of its better features), and 6 experts on aspects of Portuguese travel to cities, villages and national parks; culture; outdoor activities; and the Portuguese people themselves, share their perspectives on this fascinating country. Included is a useful map of the country, and a list of VERY basic phrases. I found the format of the pages different to absorb, and the print font was small, making it difficult to read. My eyes roamed all over the pages, as information was "boxed" in the way of travel tips. This was not my favorite style of travel guidebook, but I'm sure many travelers will find it useful.
