Out of the frying pan and into the fire.Things go from bad to worse for Ben and his crew as they struggle to push on toward Colorado. Unfortunately, due to Emma’s deteriorating health, they’re forced to alter their plans. But a delay might not be their biggest problem.Battling the elements and their own physical limits proves to be almost as treacherous as the roving gangs of highway bandits that lurk in the shadows, looking to prey upon the weak or unprepared. It’s more important than ever to remain vigilant.Especially when being deep in Patriot Hooligan territory makes every stop to fuel the vehicles a potential life and death situation. The murderous gang of extremists leave no question about their intent for anyone unlucky enough to cross their path. Something made clear by the grim remains of their evil deeds that litter the route to Fort Wayne. With no other choice, they must push on toward their new destination for Emma’s sake. But Ben sees Colorado and home slip further from their grasp, along with his expectations of humanity. Even the youngest of the group can no longer be sheltered from the problems this post-apocalyptic world presents or the tough choices that come along with surviving in it.
This is a great series that goes hand-in-hand w/ the authors “Cloverdale” series. Normally I would slap a 5-star review w/ no questions or comments. I am giving this a 3-star review bc each new addition to the series is painfully short, leaves you w/ a huge cliffhanger & then a really long wait for the next installment. A lot of short reads are okay by me bc as soon as I finish there is a clear indication of when the next book will be out. In most cases w/ other authors & series it is like a month after the release of the previous book. Not these. So many things left hanging out there, so many questions left unanswered & no way to know when you can get that closure. By the time the next book comes out I spend the first 3-4 chapters trying to figure out who the characters & remember what is going on bc it has been so long. If you are going to put out a super short book that ends in a cliffhanger you need to have the next book in the finishing stages w/ a set release date. Maybe just not release a current book until the next is in its final phases? I don’t know, but this kinds of stuff makes me want to just cut my losses & stop following the series.
Need a longer story. Love the characters non stop action. Are we going to Cloverdale next? How will they escape? Do not hurt the dog! When is the next book coming out?
Another great book by Bruno Miller. I love the characters in this book and series. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Bruno’s books.
I have generally liked this series but this book 10 is woefully short. It feels like the group progresses very little and we don't have much time to get to meet Julia and Ed who are very likable. It ends abruptly though with a big cliffhanger.
Wow! Bummer!! I have read all the previous Dark Road books but found this one to be non-fun!! Cliff hanging is common but this one didn't seem appropriate. Cruel! Don't know if I will read another episode or not. Leaning to NOT, at this point. Disappointed.
The group awakens in the abandoned hotel to the chaos of meth-strung looters tearing apart a nearby convenience store. When the dogs draw attention, the looters pursue them into the hotel, forcing a violent altercation. One looter is killed while the rest scatter, only to later ambush the convoy on the road in a modified armored Mustang with two bikes. Ben eventually gets them off the trail.
Crossing into Ohio, they begin seeing signs of a gang known as the Patriotic Hooligans. Though they narrowly evade several encounters, a spotter car tails them, keeping tabs on the convoy. At a gas station, Ben is caught off guard by a trucker at gunpoint but is saved by Emma, who collapses afterward, dangerously ill. Soon after, Gunner is briefly captured by two gang members, forcing Ben and Joel to kill them.
Emma’s condition forces the group to detour with Rita and Carlos to their daughter’s house, where her medical background and access to prescriptions may save Emma from organ failure. To secure the necessary medicine, Ben, Joel, and Ed (Rita and Carlos’s son-in-law, a wealthy prepper with military-grade weapons) launch a mission into a town under PH control. After killing two gang members when Ed’s dog Max is spotted, they infiltrate the clinic and retrieve the medicine, only to be taken down by tranquilizer darts during their escape.
When Ben awakens, blindfolded, he hears a familiar voice. Once unmasked, he comes face-to-face with Vince, the leader of the Patriotic Hooligans and Cloverdale’s former point of contact.

So they were on the way to the daughter of the couple they saved from the moonshiners, since she’s a doctor and his 12 year old daughter was getting really sick.
They came across some trouble when they tried to get gas and the 12year old shot and killed a man to save everyone.
Then the teen girl passes out well driving from heat stroke and they needed to get the car to stop.
They made it to the daughter’s house her husband had built them a doomsday estate before everything happened.
As thanks for bringing his in laws safely there he said he would help the dad find medication for his daughter. But it’s not easy as the gang they keep running from seem to own this town too.
Just as they got the medication they call got hit with darts and knocked out cold, when the dad woke up he realized who the man was that captured them.

"But I guess when the government gives out money for nothing, it spends easy. And with no jobs, they have nothing but time on their hands." Ben smirked and shook his head.
"Washington isn't helping those of us that work for a living, that's for sure. When they continued to devalue the dollar with handouts, it was only a matter of time before the consequences rippled outward. A weak dollar makes a weak country," Ed stated.
That above is why this book is getting two stars instead of three. Fuck off with this stupid thinking, Bruno Miller. Shame on you.
As much as I’m sorta enjoying the story (and the twist at the end was good), this makes me hate the whole thing.
I’m loving this story…all of it! I’ve downloaded every book available! I have to slap my wrists to stop myself from going to the very end just to see who all is still alive! The story line of Joel’s love life adds to the right amount of softness needed to recover from each incident just trying to stay alive. However, I wish that by now Ben and Sandy might have held hands instead of just touching each others shoulders!! Gotta get on to the next book! Hate to learn Vince is a bad guy!
It was awesome to read more about Ben and the others! I might have to go back and re-read the first books or think about it it a while as I hit a blank at the name Vince! I had almost expected to learn that Ed was some type of Special Force's, was surprised that he was so well prepared and yet no idea what he was really in for! Can't wait for the next book!
Dangg it cliffhangers! I surely didn’t see that one coming. Great read. The end of the world for Ben and gam has literally been a rough road. Will they get home again? I mean at this point will they get back to Cloverfield?! Hope the next book is soon out. That cliffhanger not nice man. Lol thanks for another great book.
Love, love, love, this series of books. I waited until I read all that had been published so far before leaving a review. I gotta tell you that I can't wait for the next one out. I can tell you that you won't be disappointed, the characters are real and the action is nearly non stop. My favorite series so far, kudos to the author!
I’m not a fan of cliffhangers which is why I wait until the whole series is released. This story is killing me. I keep have to reminding myself it is not real as I worry about each character and the dogs. Ben and crew continue their trip to Fort Wayne to get help for Emma. There is plenty of suspense! On to book number 11!
Will they get the medicine they need for survival? Has a friend lost his way and turned his back on Ben? How many more dogs can we collect along the way? Another tunnel way to secrets and more PH gang activity. More people to enjoy. If things don’t start to turn around the end may be closer than they imagined.

Every single book I have read by this author has been a barn burner. The characters catch your interest immediately and hold it. My only problem is he doesn't write them fast enough. Good job.
I have been waiting for this book forever now I have to wait again its frustrating to say the least. I love this series so darn much it breaks my heart to have to wait.
Wow! This series does not disappoint! It will keep you on the edge of your seat. I read this book in a day, and have reread the whole series waiting for it to come out. Yep! Now for the next one, lol. Enjoy,
In this book 10 you get enough action for maybe 5 chapters. Once again the PH are all seeing and all powerful. I recommend it as we must find out what Ben and his collection achieve in book 11.
Writing reviews on individual books in a series is really difficult. It's hard to come up with something new to say. What I can say is this, I like the books in this series and I'm definitely sticking around for what's to come.
I really enjoy this series so much. If I had to critique one thing it works be that I wish the characters had more dialog. We get a lot of what Ben is thinking, Which is important but I would have liked to read more of the characters interactions with each other with conversations.
Another edge of your seat thrill-packed book...who is the enemy? Will they reach Ft Wayne in time to save Emma? Can they trust the doctor and her husband? Will they get back to Durango, Colorado safely??
This series has me on the edge of my seat! With Emma having an infection and needing antibiotics sooner rather than later, Ben is forced to changer his route in hopes that Carlos and Rita’s daughter has the right meds to save her. The cliffhanger at the end though? Definitely not expecting that.
