Our story begins when a brother-sister duo, visits their neighbor's house and ends up challenging the kids to a game of basketball. During the match, Joe's friend Vikash joins them to take a video of match, and in a twist of fate, Geeta performed a move, which reminded Joe of a similar move in a professional basketball match 5 years ago. Joe and Vikash remembered the match because that was the black day for the sports community. The country lost 10 of its best players that day.
Joe decides to meet Geeta when the family was away, to know more about her. As they entered the Banerjee residence they saw a shocking sight. Geeta was lying on the floor gagged and bound and was in a very bad condition.
They decided to help her by calling an ambulance and inform the cops however Geeta requests them not to and reveals that the family is very well connected and calling on the cops would actually lead to dire consequences, not just for her but for Monika and Joe too.
Joe had no choice but listens to Geeta and leaves her alone but not before he promises her that he will make her life better. Sophia gives him 2 journals and tells him that it might help him. The next day, tragedy strikes. Geeta has to be admitted to the hospital and was in a coma. Joe had no other option but to tell Vikash what he saw that night. Vikash and Joe begin investigating and finds out that not everything is what it meets the eye.
Geeta’s journal begins to reveal facts which led Joe to take the help of one of his friend “Master daa” who was a surrendered underground militant and has mended his ways. Master in turn calls up his cop friend DSP Maanya Sengupta and together they device a plan to rescue Geeta.
Joe’s investigations revealed a more sinister plot. Out of the 10 children who were believed to be killed that day, it was found that there were 2 survivors, and one of them was trafficked to a red light district abroad. Further investigations revealed that a gang of child traffickers, would abduct boys when they were very young, perform illegal experiments on them to forcefully feminize them, and then would sell those kids to various red-light districts across the globe.
The investigation also revealed the cold-blooded murder of an intelligence officer who found out about this abduction ring, and the only child of the officer was also forcefully feminized and was tortured for 5 years before the kid was finally rescued.
When the Joe family learned the truth that Geeta was the child of the Intelligence Officer, and that Mr. Banerjee was the mastermind behind everything. Hell broke loose, things turned dangerous and one night, Joe, Geeta and the eldest daughter of the Banerjee vanished without a trace. The mastermind went to great length by kidnapping Monika to stop the investigation. But what he didn't anticipate that Monika's dad was an ex-marine and with the help of his friends was able to trace his daughter and rescue her.
As the saying goes, good deeds never go unnoticed, and if your bad deeds outweigh the good, you will receive a fate worse than death.
The child has done so many good deeds during his life that when the day came for the child to have a better life, a lot of good people from different walks of life teamed up and stood guard to protect the 2 kids from Mr. Banerjee and his group of 24 highly trained mercenaries whose main objective was to safely transport the kids to their respective country.
It was later revealed that it was Joe’s parents were the one who devised the plan to rescue Geeta.
You are an excellent story teller buddy. I love to read books when I get time. Normally I love to read books written by known authors and mostly love stories and occasionally thrillers. This is the first time I read a book written by some Indian rookie. A friend recommended this book to me. I really loved the plot of your book and its quite intriguing.
Once I started to read the book, I couldn't take my mind off it. Took me 16 hours to complete but definitely worth it. Probably by far one of the best thriller written by a rookie.
As a clinical psychologist myself, I have come across a lot of cases that your character Geeta kept explaining in the journals. Theme of your book is not that unique. There are lots of books written based on this concept, but every book I have read, they seem to lay the stress on how far someone could be abused. But this book depicts the abuse and emotional trauma through the eyes of the one who is been abused. This is a added advantage of your book.
The book depicts the sad reality of life. As a LGBTQ rights activist myself, the author truly depicts how people, who thinks they are regular treats someone who is Gay/Trans/Bi/lesbians and so on. A couple of the chapters like "The Karmic Justice" where the boy Harsh says "would you make friends with someone who so blatantly abuses the gender or identity gifted to them by God during birth" these are some really strong words, and there are haters who actually say such hurtful words to a LGBTQ person.
Pro's and Cons:
Pro :
Some of the characters are truly powerful ones and the world would really be a better place if such people exist.
Monika tops the list of all the characters in this book. She is really a strong willed girl and its rare to find such friends in real world. She is someone who would never let her friend down.
Dr. Babul Sen : Even though that man went to the extremes to protect Geeta it was definitely worth it. A teacher should always be like him. They should never discriminate their students no matter what orientation they belong to.
Shabnam Mausi : This particular character was petrifying and to tell you the truth I would stay away from this person. I have no idea if such holy sect exist in your country for the transgender community but if it does, then I must say your people really honors the transgender community. God bless the people of your country.
Rahat and Banerjee: these character reminds me of all those criminals pedophiles who doesn't know how to hold their pants up. The journal entries of Geeta on chapters like "Deep throat", "Backstabbed" and "Christened" were enough to give you nightmares.
Captain Sagar : The last chapter where that army office decided to adopt that child even though he know she was different and he would have to face the hardship of raising such a child. This is an honorable character. I wish that guy was real, I would have asked him to marry me.
Cons :
This is a flawless masterpiece coming from a first timer but still I would say your editor didn't do a very good job with the editing of the book. There are a lot of punctuation and grammatical error which could have been avoided. It felt as if he was not interested with editing the book when he learned that its going to be a 700 page story. Zero Star to your editor and publisher. You definitely deserve a better publisher.
You might need to do a bit more research with the scientific details that you have mentioned. Specially in the closing chapter that you stated that Gender reassignment Reversal is not possible, well buddy that is wrong.
Good luck with your book and I hope the book sells... People should know the story of Geeta.
you definitely deserve a 5 star however I will still give you a 4 star. you know the reason very well.
Some time back when I first came across this book, seeing it's size I thought, if I am to read this book it would take me months to complete as I am in hectic job.
I was casually going through Geeta in the last weekend, but I got so hooked to it that I read 15 chapters in one go!
This book have helped me evolve, become aware & sensitive towards transgenders issues.
Thank you author for sharing your experience & knowledge & best wishes for readers for learning & evolving from this wonderful book.
I will be updating my review once I am done reading.
A very interesting and fascinating crime thriller which keeps the reader on the edge of his seat throughout. Geeta the mysterious girl is in question and I wonder if she really exists or she has a complete different persona to reveal. A massacre mystery in the beginning and a romantic flashback... And the girl is gone without a trace as if she existed only in the imagination. If found to be real.. is she the murderer or a victim herself. Good read...
