About the author

Marta Perry is a Pennsylvania-based author of over 35 novels, many of them inspirational romances. She uses her rural Pennsylvania life and her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage in writing her books, especially in her Pleasant Valley Amish series for Berkley Books and her new Amish-set suspense series for HQN Books.

Marta and her husband live in a centuries-old farmhouse in a quiet central Pennsylvania valley. They have three grown children and six beautiful grandchildren, and when she's not busy writing her next book, she's usually trying to keep up with her gardening, baking for church events, or visiting those beautiful grandkids.

This is an Amish Romance, and this is the 6st book in the Brides of Lost Creek series. I have not read the other books in this series before picking up this book, but I do not think you need to. This is a book about Matthew learning live with his injures after the accident. Miriam is helping him learn to move on, but she is trying to get over some things herself. I loved the characters in this book, and I think they are really developed. I did think that this book was slow to get going, and it took me awhile to get pulled into the storyline. I loved seeing the change in Matthew from the beginning of the book to the ending of the book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Love Inspired) or author (Marta Perry) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. This was such a good story! Miriam was so good at what she did, which was help people recuperate and do whatever therapy and exercises they needed to do. The way she responded not only to Matt, but also to his sister, showed that she had a good understanding of helping both the physical and emotional needs of her patients.

Matthew started out the novel with a lot of anger and self pity. The way he was behaving was actually very understandable due to the grief and guilt he was suffering from. But it was so nice to see when he began awakening from the stupor he had been in and started to actually work to heal as much as he could.

The emotions felt very authentic all throughout the story and this was a book that was hard to set down. It is part of a series, yet I had no trouble reading it as a stand alone novel.

Nursing Her Amish Neighbor is a story of healing, forgiveness, faith, hope, and family. Miriam has her work cut out for her in more ways than one. Matthew has both physical and emotional healing ahead of him, and he is anything but cooperative. Miriam needs to be as stubborn as he is resistant, plus he's not the only one grieving a loss. The whole family has a long road ahead of them to heal. Miriam and Matthew don't have an easy way to finding each other, and the story certainly has its angst and sadness, but it's tempered with hope and faith. If you enjoy Amish romance, this is not one to be missed.

Matt King has been badly injured in a buggy accident. His brother David was killed in the accident. His whole family is suffering from grief and Matt does not see any reason to continue to live. He feels guilty for being a survivor. His family hires a physical therapist and also hires Miriam who lives nearby. Miriam has nursing skills and is willing to help Matt practice the exercises that the therapist has prescribed. Miriam helps Matt regain his strength and also his will to live. She also helps his family start to live again.

I enjoyed this book and thought that all of the characters were very likable even Matt’s sister, Betsy. I thought the story flowed well and loved the ending.. Miriam Stolzfus has just returned from Ohio to Lost Creek after taking care of her aunt, who had surgery. Though not a nurse, Miriam is known for her caring skills, and while there, she also cared for a teenaged boy with his recovery. Now she is happy to be back home and with her parents and her boisterous younger brothers.

Now, what is in store for her future? No longer young, she concludes she'll remain single and never have a family of her own. Most women her age are already married and have children, but being back with those she loves is what matters.

Realizing she is destined to be unmarried, Miriam she finds it hard to get back into her life in Lost Creek. The Amish are close-knit and know everything about their neighbors, but she fears tales will abound about her time in Ohio. She has done nothing wrong, and these are her family and friends, yet, when she overhears gossip about her, she wonders what others are thinking. With a clear conscience and head held high, she goes on with her life, and the rumors are put to rest, giving her peace of mind.

Matthew King and Miriam grew up together as neighbors, and now Matt needs Miriam's help—though he refuses to accept it. While out in the buggy with his younger brother, David, they were hit by a drunken driver, and David was killed instantly and Matthew severely hurt. Now, confined to his bed, Matt's father hires Miriam to care for him, aware of her exceptional talent for caring for others as well as her limitless patience.

Though the two have known each other for a long time, Matt does not want anyone's assistance and shows his belligerence when she arrives. He does not want to perform the exercises his therapist has given him to regain the use of his legs, and he unequivocally shows his feelings. Miriam is concerned by his attitude but resolves she must get him out of his funk and back on his feet.

Meanwhile, she has to contend with Matt's younger sister, Betsy, who wants no part of Miriam's help and thwarts any progress she makes with his healing. After all, she is Matt's sibling, and she believes she can take care of him better than anyone.

The gloom in the King household is palpable, and it saddens Miriam. Matt's dad tries to act stoic and carry on as though nothing has happened. He hires Miriam's brother, Joshua, to take over David's duties on the farm, and Joshua's presence is a constant reminder of their loss. Matt's mom is a shell of who she used to be, unable to contain her grief over losing her youngest son and the agony of seeing her oldest in such pain. On top of this, Betsy is acting out, but Miriam understands she is grieving, too.

Tim, the physical therapist, comes to oversee Matt's progress, and between him and Miriam, they work hard to help Matt adjust and regain his strength. Yet Matt can't get over his guilt, believing the accident was his fault, even though everyone assures him it was indeed not intentional.

As time passes, with Miriam becoming more a part of Matt's family, Matt's mother starts to show signs of the vibrant woman she once was. Betsy accepts Miriam, especially after Miriam includes her with Matt's treatment. However, there is one problem—Miriam is falling in love with Matt, though Matt believes he could never take a wife. With a badly scarred face and injured body, how can he support a family?

"Nursing Her Amish Neighbor" is book #6 in the Lost Creek Series. It gives a delightful look into the Amish community, depicting they, too, have worries, fears, and problems like anyone else. This gentle and forgiving group offers a glimpse into their strong faith and love of their people, making this an uplifting read.

Miriam Stoltzfus is tired. She is happy to finally be home with her family in Lost Creek. Miriam is known as a caregiver and before she hardly has time to take a breath she is asked to care for her neighbor, Matthew King, whom she has known since childhood. Matthew was severely injured in an accident that killed his brother. And to say Matthew is a difficult patient is an understatement.

I admit it. I like books with a medical bent. And I enjoy Marta Perry’s Amish mysteries. So, when I saw this on the NetGalley list, I immediately requested to review it. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Have you ever been tired, not only physically but emotionally? Miriam is drained. And I could feel it when I read it. I could understand why Matthew was so despondent. If you check the dictionary under the word grouch, you’ll find his name.

His younger sister Betsy, who adores him — but, at times, you want to bonk her over the head to get her attention. Nonetheless, she genuinely loves her big brother. Great characters. The story just flows. Once I started reading, I just couldn’t stop.

Harlequin Love Inspired’s byline is “Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.” That is exactly what Marta Perry delivers in Nursing Her Amish Neighbor. You’ll want to read how Miriam gives hopeless Matthew hope. How faith is restored. And how a person learns to forgive themselves.

The more time she spends with him, the more Miriam begins to care. Will Matthew consider a future with Miriam? Nursing Her Amish Neighbor by Marta Perry is the sixth book in the Brides of Lost Creek series. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed this engaging Amish novel. I thought it was well-written and the story moved along at a good pace. There are good, developed characters in this story. I enjoyed getting to know Miriam, Matthew, and their families. Miriam’s household is lively thanks to her siblings. She has a thoughtful and caring mother who dispenses wise advice. Nursing Her Amish Neighbor is a character driven story. The author captured the Amish culture with their rules and traditions. I appreciated that this was not a story where everything is rosy. We get a realistic view of life among the Amish. Matthew’s family lost one son and the other son is angry (bitter). The King family needs Miriam to come in and help not only Matthew, but the whole family. The themes in this story are forgiveness, healing, family, and hope. While the story does have some predictability, it did not diminish my reading pleasure. The ending will leave readers smiling. I can always count on Marta Perry to provide me with a diverting and satisfying tale. Nursing Her Amish Neighbor is an inspiring Amish story that will ensure you have a messy house because you will become immersed in this story and completely forget about your household tasks.

Troubles are easier to bear when they are shared.

Miriam Stoltzfus has come home a little broken inside. Miriam is a Amish Physical Therapist who enjoys her job and deeply cares for those that she helps. Her last case did not end well and left her little unsure and insecure. Coming home to help a neighbor may help her get focused. Matthew King is suffering from injuries from a buggy accident that killed his brother and left him unable to do the things he once did. Guilt and shame are consuming him. His family in their grief have not been able to come together. However, Miriam taking the challenge sees opportunities for the family and Matthew to overcome in faith in community starting in the family.

It is funny that we talk about community and the importance of community but our own family struggles. The King family is strong in faith but grief and hopelessness can even make a well established family suffer. I appreciated how the family came together and what it took. Accepting our weakness and trusting others is a first big step for both Miriam and Matthew. They both have a "paralyzing" faith that needs a jump start and focusing on others is that jump start. It even jump started a sweet romance.

Nursing Her Amish Neighbor is the next inspirational story written by Marta Perry in her Brides of Lost Creek series. The author has done an exceptional job telling this story of heartbreak, healing, and forgiveness. The characters are absolutely perfect for this story and add a lot of emotions to it. With the death of one son and extensive healing for another one family struggles to find peace in their family again. When their neighbor Miriam is asked to help with Matthew's recovery she isn't sure if she is the right person for the job. Miriam and Matthew have been neighbors all their lives and never really close. With both dealing with heartache they are a perfect match according to others but Matthew isn't sure he wants to give Miriam a chance to help him. This story is filled with so many ups and downs but Miriam is a strong-willed young woman determined to help Matthew. This story will definitely keep the readers interest.

This is one of my very favorite Amish authors and I was hoping I'd get this one!
I wasn't disappointed at all!
Wonderful and likeable characters that you can easily become friends with and make this family your own. I know I did!.
I could feel the connection with Matt easily.
I'm stubborn and often times don't want help.
I didn't want to put the book down so I finished it in over a little over two hours.
Perry is a great author! I love the way she just makes you fall in love with her stories immensely.
To me, she can't write enough I love them so. I will always be a forever fan of hers.

Miriam Stoltzfus is an in home nurse. She has just returned home from Ohio where she nursed her aunt and then a young boy with an autoimmune disease. That didn't end well, so she just wants to take some time off. God has other plans for her and she ends up working with her neighbour, an old friend, who was in a serious automobile/buggy crash where his brother was killed. He has no use of his legs and a terrible scar on his face. He has shut himself up in a room, not wanting to see anyone but his sister Betsy who dotes on him. He is supposed to be exercising between physiotherapy appointments but doesn't and this is where Miriam comes in. Can she help him heal physically as well as emotionally? What can she do to help his mother with her grief?

This was a very relatable story. This would fit anyone who has had this type of experience and is dealing not only with grief but survivor's guilt. Miriam is a tough cookie. Matthew thinks he will be able to make her give up and leave, but Miriam has other ideas. She is calm, yet firm. She is able to get Betsy to let Matthew do more for himself as well as to get her to do more with her mother to help them both. All is done with a smile and a refusal to argue. Matthew is stubborn, but he loves his family. He thinks they will be better off if he just stays out of their way. It takes a lot for him to let his grief and pain go. This is a story of heartbreak, healing, forgiveness, and love. Marta Perry has written a wonderful, enjoyable story that I recommend. Miriam Stoltzfus is a nurse and her newest patient is her childhood neighbor Matthew King. Not only does Matthew have physcal healing to do, emotionally he is broken as well. He suffered an accident that left him in a wheelchair but more devastatingly, left his younger brother dead. Matthew simply doesn't want help. He blames himself for his brother's death and no longer cares about himself.

What a tender story from start to finish. It was so easy to see and to understand Matthew's pain, but I loved Miriams doggedness. She was tough to be sure, but she was gentle and loving. I love how she pushed Matthew, but never once stopped being kind.

Even though this book was part of a series I have yet to read, the emotional edge was handled so well that this story did fine on its own. I love Marta Perry's writing and how she brings the characters close to your heart, making you feel what they feel and keeps you rooting for them.

Mathew King is suffering both bodily and physically from being hit by a drunk driver. He is angry and hurting, and when Miriam Stolzfus shows up to help with his therapy, he doesn't want to cooperate.

Miriam is a neighbor, but had been away and is suffering from an incident that happened, and trying to deal with her own pain. Then we meet more of the King family and all that has happened as a result of the accident, Matt being hurt and David dying.

This is a story of hope and recovery, each in their own way, and there is a bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel, but will they be able to really move on with their lives? We are there is walk in their shoes for a short time, and be thankful, we are not in the same situation.

The author did a good job with this read, and will be looking for more by her.

I did enjoy this book. I loved Miriam character. Matthew grew on me. Even though this is book 6 it can be read as a standalone. 4*.

She is contacted by the King family to come and help with their son, Matt, who was injured in a drunk driving accident that left him broken and his young brother dead. I hope we get to reconnect with our new friends to learn how their lives progress. This book by Ms. Perry focused on forgiveness, struggles, and learning to lean on Him. People forget to treasure each day for the blessing it truly is; this novel takes us on a journey of tremendous growth.

Warm Romance

Nursing Her Amish Neighbor by Marta Perry, book six in the Brides of Lost Creek series, is a sweet romance filled with family love and community relationships that stand the test of time. Miriam Stolzfus is a neighbor suffering from an incident that happened while being away, helping an elder family member and is struggling to deal with her own pain. Upon returning to Lost Creek, Miriam agrees to help Matthew recover from a serious accident, going to her neighbor’s house daily to assist him in his rehabilitation. Matthew King is suffering both bodily and physically from being hit by a drunk driver. Understandably, he is bitter and angry about the accident that killed his brother, David, leaving him unable to move his legs. He is angry and hurting, and when Miriam shows up to help with his therapy and he doesn't want to cooperate. Miriam has her work cut out for her since she has to convince Matthew to have hope along with his younger sister to allow her to do her job. This is a story of hope and recovery, each in their own way, and there is a bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel, and how forgiveness can lighten their anger and struggles.

Ms. Perry wrote a sweet love story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, attraction, chemistry, wonderful dialogue, endearing characters and a peek into an Amish community, while Miriam and Matthew find a way to each other. I highly recommend Nursing Her Amish Neighbor to other readers and look forward to future books by this author.

This is a sweet and predictable romance, filled with family love and community relationships that stand the test of time. Miriam agrees to help Matthew recover from a serious accident, going to her neighbor’s house daily to assist him in his rehabilitation. Matthew is understandably bitter and angry about the accident that killed his brother and left him unable to move his legs. Miriam has her work cut out for her since she has to convince Matthew to have hope and his sister to allow her to do her job. The story moved at a quick pace and the characters were like beloved old friends, described well and giving a real heart to the story. In fact, I think that the characters made the story. The Amish traditions are included and are a welcome addition to the background of the plot. The themes are forgiveness and holding on to hope in spite of life’s lemons. I particularly enjoyed the humanity of the characters, their struggle with their daily lives and their close relationship to their family and friends. Fans of good Amish fiction will not want to miss this book. Although it is part of a series, I read it as a standalone and had no difficulty jumping right into the story.
