To save her kingdom, a terrible price must be paid.
The gods have abandoned their children, plunging the world of Ahmanrah into chaos. As the earth rots, the Solair, elves of sun and flame, march upon the human realms.
The kingdom of Seranel is next in their sights. Sabyr, the half-blood, bastard of the queen, will do anything to protect her family and home. But Seranel is weak, it has not escaped the decay. Without allies, their annihilation is certain.
Raest Nightsong, king of the beautiful but enigmatic Illyd, pledges all that Seranel could ever need. But with his promise comes a terrible price. A marriage to bind their people together. With her bloodline putting her out of the picture, the dreaded betrothal falls to one of her siblings. Sabyr will be damned before she allows a demon to whisk away one of her beloved sisters.
I haven't been able to find a fantasy book like kingdom of ash by Sarah J.mass or Holly Black's cruel Prince but so far this ticks a few boxes. I've also been really struggling to find an adventure series I like with a tolleratable main character and a true fantasy world that isn't just filled with fae and humans. This book captured me and helped my mind imagine a whole new world like no other.
FINALLY I'm excited to find out what happens next.
Im hoping for some more weird and wonderful characters, a few twists and an adventure with some strong action scenes.... and of course.. a little romance 😏😏
Ummmmm.... YES! just YES... This is the book I was waiting to read.. I didn't expect much from this random book I found on Amazon but dayyyuuuummmm.. it was the perfect day in. Settled in with a nice cup of tea, a warm cat on my lap and before I new it I'd read the whole thing. With an author name like Vella Wolf you know your in for an adventure! If you haven't got this book, treat yourself. I can tell it's only going to get better from here.
2.5, rounding down. Damn, but the smut in here felt like reading a technical manual. Just sentences describing what they're doing, not what they're feeling, or thinking.
The writing isn't the worst, but the punctuation could use a good editing once-over. Names should be set off on both sides by commas when they are in the middle of a sentence, not just one.
Overall, the plot was decent, but for my brand of fantasy, it just felt a little on-the-nose in regards to morals and vibes. I was very aware that the setting and scene descriptions were being showcased as if I could see things.
As someone with aphantasia, I'm in the minority of people who care more about how people feel, what drives them, why they care so much... Describing visuals for aesthetics' sake doesn't work for me as I can't see anything. So, more time spent on inner reflection and growth would have hit me with more of an impact.
But this isn't the worst out there; more in need of a good polish. YMMV, I hope others enjoy this more than I did.
