At long last, the most famous face of the Milestone Universe is making his shocking return!
Bullied nerd Virgil Hawkins wasn't the kind of kid you'd normally find on the streets at a protest– but like everyone else in the city of Dakota, he was fed up.
Unfortunately, the first time he stood up to raise his voice, the world turned upside down. The experimental tear gas released that day left some of his classmates maimed or dead…but it left Virgil, and others, with stunning new abilities. Virgil has power inside him now — real power, the ability to channel and manipulate electromagnetic fields.
But there's anger burning inside him, too.
What is he supposed to do about all of this? And first and foremost — what is he supposed to do about his bullies, now that they've got superpowers too?
A dynamic creative team of new comics voices and Milestone Media veterans join forces to open up a new chapter in the story of the most iconic Black teen superhero in comics history.
I think the biggest letdowns were the colouring — that were pretty watered down and bland looking, which I don't think suits Static — and the very "gee golly" style of 1950s vernacular for some of the younger characters. I don't think Vita is very old but her writing of young characters is really cringe. Bendis levels of cringe.
I have been really looking forward to this series for a while so I'm a bit disappointed I didn't love this...but I'm still excited to see where this series will go from here! The story in this first issue just felt a little disjointed and the dialogue was a bit stiff. I am also not a big fan of the art style in this book. Still intriguing enough to check out the next few issue though!
Having loved static as a kid, I had high expectations for this run, #1 didn’t really live up to those expectations, but I am excited to see where the story goes.
felt like I was on a mountain hiking higher and higher until there was no oxygen anymore and I collapsed because this is so peak
As a fan of the 2000s show I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MORE MATURE COMIC MILESTONE TAKE WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS IS OUTTT the backstory was told right off the bat, his witty remarks already showing in the fights against Hotstreak I know I'm about to witness one of the greatest series be recreated through comic form
Fave parts: his dad's answer when he asked whether he wished his son was more like him, when his older sister caught him on his way out and and handed him the jacket she sewed, the portrayals of the BLM protests in the very beginning, hacking the news broadcast to make the speech about channeling anger to make a change

I am thrilled that Static is BACK! The original concept for the character was amazing. The art was lighter and the character more uplifting. This is not that art, though excellent. The origin story of Static was reimagined having evolved from a BLM incident. As I fell in love with the original character I will be following through on collecting the rest of the books, but not the individual comics.
I’ve always been a pretty decent Static fan and I’m really excited about how this first issue turned out. I like the art style and they were some really really great panels especially with the fight against Francis
I feel like the art its sometimes good and sometimes I don’t like it. I like the new twist of how he got his powers but I don’t like that a lot of people now know that he has does powers. Solid fist issue.
I legit only read this comic because I had seen the artist's work on Insta and was blown away. What I found, once I read it, was that the story was just as amazing as the work. Most definitely going to continue to read this series.
I really loved the story, but sometimes I was confused by the art. Especially in fight scenes. I hope they continue reviving these Milestone titles! Read for: Realm Of Comics March Book Club, hosted by Ashley & Bre
Great origin story for Static. art was beautiful and kinetic and the story was written so well. It really feels like it could be a remake of the cartoon.
