Against everyone's expectations - including her own - Robin Wildwood has gained the coveted title of Head Witch. But not everyone is thrilled at that outcome…

With her squirrel familiar, Tansy, at her side, Robin determines to make the best of her unexpected position, but the Wildwood Coven isn't inclined to let the family's black sheep barge in and shake everything up. Even her grandmother's ghost and her cantankerous cat familiar have their own opinions on how things should be run, while her scheming aunt is less than thrilled at losing out to the family screw-up.

Helping to judge the local familiar contest ought to be a welcome relief, but when one of the contenders drops dead, Robin finds herself tasked with looking after a traumatised chicken familiar as well as preventing herself from becoming the killer's next target.

Can Robin solve the mystery before her new title ends up etched on her tombstone?

I will say it again, this book is a mess hell the lead is ridiculous. How you born a witch but by the looks of it she never learn how to use magic, hell she's all over the place.

Great new supernatural cozy mystery series

This is book 2 and a great new supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. This story is based in the same world that the authors Blair Wilkes series is in. It is a different region of England but the same world. Maybe one day they will be a crossover. Robin is the misfit of the Wildwood family. She had left town to get away from her family until her grandmother the head which and leader of her coven had died. When she returns for the funeral she inadvertently gets involved inner families troubled goings-on. Most of the family just please the grandmother died as she was 92. But Robin thinks she was murdered. As she begins trying to find out even up against your brother who is the chief of police in the town. Her aunt and cousin are conniving to take power away from Robin‘s mother who is the likely air to be head of the coven and probably head which. As things unfold the head which scepter chooses who is the next head which will be. It’s possible it could even be someone from another Kevin. Spoiler alert in reading book one Robin ends up being the head which. Read on and see what happens in the continuing story of the new not ready for prime time head which.
It is fun a little bit snarky at times but very entertaining and a fun read.

2.5 stars ... I guess I didn't review the first book, so of course I also didn't remember what it was about by the time I got around to this one. However, I did give it 3 stars and I vaguely recall feeling like I was being generous in doing so, so I assume I felt about the same as I did with this book, which was: meh.

I did mark this as "main character sucks" but that is a bit unfair, because it's not like Robin, the MC, is really extremely annoying or anything... she's just kinda bitchy and unpleasant, but because literally every other character (except her familiar and her BFF) is just as unpleasant or worse, it's hard to really blame her. I didn't like that she was just gung-ho about hoping her aunt and cousin were guilty for the whole book (but since there was no EVIDENCE of their complicity, she was forced to continue investigating!), but on the other hand, they are really mean-spirited bitchmonsters, so you can kind of understand why the MC thinks they are guilty. But on the OTHER other hand, I kinda felt like, welp, Robin is certainly a child of this insufferable family.

I think the author is trying to make readers feel sympathy for the poor tragic MC who has a mean, cold, controlling family, and she does succeed somewhat... I definitely found the family obnoxious... but the MC's whole personality feels like it revolves around resenting her family and escaping their controlling grasp. Aside from a passing note that her hobby is photography (which is a useful hobby in any amateur detective novel, so it's too bad it's never mentioned again), I feel like she has no other defining characteristics. When the love interest shows up, I was just like "what about her does he like, exactly?"

I listened to these as audiobooks and although the lady reading seems to have a perfectly normal voice, I just felt like most of the characters lacked any kind of feeling of warmth or kindness. I don't know if that was because of how they were written, or if it was how they were read out loud, so I hesitate to blame the author without reading the books as text. Perhaps I'd like these people a bit more if I put voices to them myself? Still, I don't normally have that feeling when listening to audiobooks, even if I'm not big on the reader, so I'm inclined to think that the characters in this book are just not very engaging.

I'll probably give this series at least one more book because I like that the MC's witch family all have the ability to talk to animals, which is fun. Hoping that the characters become more likable and interesting.

As a memory aid for myself, here's a recap of the plot of this book plus whatever I recall from the previous one:

Oh and the love interest guy, who is basically some kind of flying-broomstick-lacrosse player (it's TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Quidditch, you guys!!), also continues to exist. The end!

Another well written tale

Robin's first week as Head Witch is a laugh a minute as she deals with her ghostly grandmother issuing a stream of instructions to both herself and her new assistant, Chloe, and takes on the role of judge and commentator for the Familiar Contest crun by her mother.

Between ghostly Mrs Wildwood struggling with change and no longer being Head Witch and the new Lady Wildwood taking on the role of Coven Leader and unable to relinquish her naturally bossy attitude Robin doesn't seem to be able to do anything right.VSo when a contestant drops dead at the end of the first round and Robin is also trying to deal with her brother Ramsey issuing instructions something has to give.

Thrusting herself headlong into the investigation Robin doesn't fit any of her relatives expectations of a Head Witch but when the next body drops right outside her office the biggest question is who was the intended victim? With her cousin, Vanessa, still in the competition and Aunt Shannon the only one in the coven building and both still seething about Robin's position anything is possible but the truth when it comes out is even crazier still.

This was a great second book in the series and I can't wait to read the next one! It has good characters, unusual plots, and unexpected outcomes.

Robin Wildwood is the new Head Witch and most people are not happy about that - including most of her family. Everyone has an opinion about how things should be run - including the last Head Witch - Robin's deceased grandmother who is now a ghost in Robin's office along with her cantankerous cat familiar!

Meanwhile, her scheming aunt is less than thrilled at losing out to the family screw-up and is doing her best to be totally disruptive.

Robins thinks that judging the local familiar contest should be easy. However, one of the contenders drops dead and Robin finds herself tasked with looking after a traumatized chicken familiar. And she also has to avoid becoming the killer's next target. Easy peasy??

In these terrible times under the Musk/Trump administration I often need to read something light and magical to relieve stress. Elle Adams' series are great stress relievers. This book is the second in this series. One of Robin's first tasks as the new head witch is to judge the familiars contest. Witches and their familiars have come from all over to see who has the best familiar. Entered in the contest are cats, spiders, birds and other animals. Included is Robin's cousin who hates Robin's family because she wants her family in charge. Needless to say, someone is murdered and Robin must find out who done it. There are three levels of testing eliminating contestants at each round until only three are left.

Intelligent and enlightened

My first comment has to be to thank the author for having Robin be dyslexic in an intelligent and accurate context. I read a paranormal cozy a few years back that misrepresented dyslexia terribly with the character not being able to read at all which is wrong and insulting to dyslexics. Much of dyslexia is spelling issues and sentence order but is unique to each person but never not being able to read. Dyslexic people just really see the world differently but not handicapped in any way. So I've said a lot about one aspect of this book but I've never been disappointed in an Elle Adams book and I've read many.

Chicken scratch

I love this series. It’s so readable & the mystery is quite a puzzle. Eagerly awaiting the next book.
Robin Wildwood, reluctant Head Witch, has to judge a familiar competition. Her cousin, Vanessa, is determined to win by any means possible while her mother, Shannon is still furious over not being chosen by the scepter. When competitors are killed by a cursed artifact, Robin wants to solve the murders. But everyone tells her the Head Witch doesn’t get involved in murders. Will Robin follow the tradition or chart her own path as Head Witch?

Exciting second in series.

Robin sure gets herself in a lot of messes and her family is beyond dysfunctional but, it makes for an engrossing read. Those Henbane witches are a real thick in everyone's side and the contest participants are dropping dead like flies. Robin's Grandmother believes all of these attempts are actual assassination on the new Head Witch. That has Robin's guard up for sure.
This was a really great book, fun, funny, and interesting. I could barely put it down. I highly recommend it and am off to read the next in series now.

Murder Most Fowl is Book 2 in the Wildwood Witch Mystery Series.
This is such a fun series. Robin is now head witch and her first official duty
is to judge a familiar contest. This was so hilarious all the different
familiars, that is until someone ends up dead. Its up to Robin along
with her brother to investigate.

This is such a fun cozy mystery! The characters are great, and I love Tansy,
Robins red squirrel familiar.

I look forward to reading more in this series!

A Great New Series From Elle Adams

Robin Wildwood is a major screwup, or is she? After all, the Scepter chose her as the new Head Witch. Problem is, someone is already trying to assassinate her. Trouble is, they’re not very good, and two people have died by accident. Will Robin find the killer before the killer finds her? It’s a roller coaster ride of thrills and chills. Miss this book, and you’ve missed the broomstick!

I didn't like this one as much as the first one probably because I'm not really a "sports" fan. I felt it dragged on way too long. The mystery itself was interesting, just not the subject matter. I'm hoping the next one in the series will be more about Robin's learning how to wield the unwieldy sceptor and figuring out how to stand up to grandma's ghost as well as the rest of her dysfunctional family.

a familiar contest and murder

Poor Robin is trying to adjust to her new job as Head Witch, but her mother has set up a familiar contest for her to judge. On top of all that, a murder had taken place. Another fun filled mystery with the Wildwood witches.

Murder most fowl

Great story. I never would have guessed by the title that a chicken was involved but a rat is always a rat.
