This third book was ok but not as good as the first two In the series it’s definitely not my favourite and If I’m honest I was getting a bit bored with the lack of forward momentum in the plot and also what felt like endless action sequences. The writing here was fine I just felt that this didn’t have the same oomph that the first two books did. I will be reading the last book in the series as I’m now invested in the outcome but I was at times disappointed in this third instalment.
On the romance front, everyone now does seem to be on the same page even Wylder who has finally pulled his head out of his own arse and is finally treating Mercy right. We also finally get a scene with Mercy and all of her men. This ends on another cliffy finish ready for the final piece of the puzzle.

why choose Mafia Romance
Yep as I expected when I started this series with book one this is a Why Choose Mafia Romance, it wasn’t a why choose romance at first, but I expected it to become one eventually. This book has a lot of action and danger, and smutty scenes with some DP as well. I recommend it

I hate it when you run out of pages and no matter how many times you tap your Kindle more don't appear, so not happy with Eva Chance right now, I need more pages!
Really enjoyed this one, think all the boys got to shine in this book as well as Mercy. Felt Wylder more as a leader too, he stepped up and i loved some of the choices he made, I was super happy at one on particular... you'll know when you read it.
Xavier I have no idea what his issues are just that they're numerous. I have so many questions and theories going round in my head, I can't wait to get answers to everything and find out of I'm right.
Bring on the next book, I'm so excited.

Where do I start? I want to say I actually really enjoyed this read. It was more slow moving than the others in the series plot wise, but romance wise. This book definitely beat the others. I love how Mercy’s relationship with her men grew in this book. Gideon is my favorite guy but I found myself growing attached to all of them . Wylder in particular really shined and impressed me this book, and we also learn a lot about Kaige and his past and why he is the way he is. Just a heads up his past, yeah it’s lachrymose (tear inducing)He has a good reason for being the way he is and I wanted to leap into the pages and hug him. Mercy as usual was a badass and I understand why the men gravitate/orbit around her. She’s a real catch. I also really love that she’s the only woman they have ever shared and that there’s a little jealousy among the men about doing so. It makes the relationship more realistic in my opinion and I’m not going to lie. I like to see the men get a little jealous over the fmc in RH. All in all a really good read and I can’t wait for the next one.

Damn....this one was good! The hits just keep coming for poor Mercy and her men. While I love all the guys, I'm a super softy for Gideon (sigh).

Plot:
Book 3 takes off with Mercy being kicked out of the Noble house by Ezra who thinks she is the reason bad shit keeps happening. The boys manage to hid her in one of the properties they own around the bend. Xavier keeps coking for her, doesn’t seem to matter where she hides he keeps finding her. They have a few face to face run ins with him. Ezra tells Wylder he must kill mercy if he wants to be the heir still. But he doesn’t. They put into place a plan to infiltrate Xavier but Gideon managed to get caught in the process. They manage to get him back and Wylder confronts his dad. Only to have his older brother dropped of dead on his door step. The book ends with them all being shot with darts that knock them out.
My feelings:
Soooooo I wasn’t as invested into book 3 as I thought I would be. It did have few more spicy chapters which was good and she finally has sex with all of them separately and then all together, finally admitting they are all in it together.
Ok lets talk about the main MCs:
Mercy yes she has gotten more ruthless. She is killing people, using her gun, stabbing etc. I wanted her to take on the role of queen of the Klaws sooooo badly and she has! Lets see if she can be more then this in the last book.
Kaige, oh my. His back story is horrible:( He has a switch that sets him off, and I found him more angry in this book then the rest. I liked it. I like him trigger happy. And I like that he is soft to mercy. I can’t wait to see if he can be more int he last book.
Rowan, I knew you would be the softest of the lot. You can tell he is in love with mercy without he whole series. I am glad you get to see his crazy side he has hid from her in this one. But you can tell he is better with words then crazy.
Gideon, oh I love my dark Knight. I do wish he hadn’t been written to be such a wimp but. I know he has lung issues, but when he gets involved in things he just turns into a liability they have to look after. I think he would be better written to stay in the van the whole time. He annoys me when he gets in the way. Tech nerds are hot to!
Wylder, Still my book boyfriend for book 3. I like his crazy side. I hope for a bit more crazy in book 4. I know I like my men borderline Psychotic and this series is a lot softer then im used to, but I feel like he could have been a but more crazy then he was written. He is the heir. He needs to be a bit insane. Right?

- Reading the completed series but rating parts separately

This one was okay… it just seemed to be a bit more lacklustre than the other two. But in saying that it is still a good read. I feel this one is setting up for the next but it does make it feel like the plot is dragging a bit.
~ The Plot ~
Full of action, almost too much action. Everything is still detailed and keeps you on the edge of your seat but it’s doesn’t really slow down at any point so processing stuff is missing. It’s starting to feel like there aren’t any consequences to choices made, if something bad does happen it’s solved within a chapter or two.
~ The Characters ~
One thing bugging me is the amount of background characters we are getting now to make the plot convenient. Another tech guy, a brother, more gang peeps, it almost feels like an afterthought or one randomly put in especially the brother thing, that felt so random and then the result that happened seemed cheap or a cop out on creating that character to begin with.
Mercy is still as badass as ever, rising up and making her place in things is inspiring! I love how she talks about stuff rather than doing that petty ignoring thing a lot of other novels do.
Wylder has redeemed himself in my books, not completely I’m holding a grudge but I can tolerate him now that he’s not being a little bitch.
Kaige has gotten more interesting and actually gained some respect from me
Rowan got a couple of scenes in this book but it still feels as if he’s just in the background doing nothing, almost as if he was a ghost.
Gideon is still my favourite and I don’t think anything will change that, his attention to detail, passion and need to constantly try prove himself (even though it’s not needed) just do something to me, I feel like out of all of them he’s oddly got more of a unique personality which is probably why I’m drawn to him.
The relationships between them are good, communication is a big thing and my god is it a nice change, no more petty fights and misunderstandings. They all take in each others feelings and actually have empathy!
The spice is still nicely sprinkled in this book, not to much but not too little, you finally get the big scene and it was pretty good, I do want to know how big this van is though.
Overall it wasn’t a bad instalment to the series but I do feel like it is just here to drag the series out, I’m still going to carry on the series and see it through because I am still interested in seeing how it will end although I do think I already know how it will end.

This is a really good series for someone who wants like low to medium dark mafia. The antagonists are pure villains. The main antagonist in this one is fucking insane. He is certifiably off his rocker. It makes scenes with him very fun to read.
I like seeing how the group is trying to build up alliances from the ground up. Sure, they are connected to the Nobles (head organized crime family in their city), but they have little to no support from them in terms of bodies, brains, cash, or any other resource. They are trying to clean up their home and run out every other gang trying to swoop in during this transition of power. It’s nice to see each characters confidence grow during this process. There was less insecurities in this regard in this book.
The group bonded together as a reverse harem a lot in this book. Characters were vulnerable with each other, they relied on each other, they counted on each other to have their backs and get them out of tough situations. Every single relationship strengthened. I would say it felt a little unbalanced though. Wylder felt like a primary character while the other three men didn’t have as much. I wanted a bit more dialogue with the other three and our FMC.
I loved the ending. I’m glad Wylder finally had words with his father. I’m hoping he gets his head out of his ass in the finale book and we can see how strong their alliance can be when the dad isn’t being a jackass. I’m anticipating some sort of undermining or double crossing though. I don’t think he’s just gonna cave. He will view what Wylder said and did as a humiliation and an effort to undermine him and he will not allow that. I also kinda want the group to beat the antagonist without the help from him and only the alliances they are making. But we shall see.

I feel like the rhythm of this book was a bit off. I might be wrong, maybe I didn't stuff my face with enough chocolate or something. But the action was a bit slow and repetitive. It could have had more impact if it was quicker.
We'll see with the fourth one, but I'm starting to loose my interest, hope I don't DNF it to pick an other one.

I would like for him to have a deeper connexion with Mercy and the other. I saw an improvement during this book, but I'm still not convinced. Gideon is definitely my fav <3 love the geek man !

Another great installment in the Crooked Paradise series.
This book is a little bit slower in pace when compared to books 1 and 2, but still contains plenty of action (including in the bedroom). The harem is starting to take shape rather than Mercy having relationships with each individual guy separately. There are a couple of scenes in this book that are particularly steamy (the end one in the van, OMG) and involve more than one of Mercy's men.
There are still some unanswered questions as to why/how Xavier and the Storm have come to be in Paradise City, but some questions have been answered.
The cliffhanger is intense and just when you think Xavier has done his worst, something else happens in the final page. Is it good or bad?! We don't know but I can't wait to find out!

Ruthless Queen by Eva Chance and Harlow King is an enemies-to-lovers gang romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Ava Lucas and J.F. Harding. This is the third book in the Crooked Paradise series.
I was hooked from the first book in the series and have binging each book in one sitting. I am loving the relationship that is blooming between Mercy, Wylder, Kaige, Gideon, and Rowan. I really enjoyed getting all of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
The book ended on another cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the final book in the series Lethal Empress.
Ava Lucas and J.F. Harding did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I was bored for most of this book. They needed to built up the threat again after defeating the first one in the previous book and that took a while. I also felt less passion towards this new enemy than the old one. This new enemy is also waaaay too chaotic and evil, their ruthlessness doesn't make sense. I need my villains to make sense, okay? 😂 Toward the end it for better, but then I'm truly talking about the last 40 or so pages. And then it ends on a crappy cliffhanger... Onto book 4 we go, let's hope this one is more interesting than book 3.

This series just keeps getting better and better with each book and this latest addition is every bit as addictive! Fast paced and action packed this holds you on the edge of your seat with its twists and turns and gripping storyline. The characters continue to grow and develop and there’s plenty of drama, suspense and mystery to draw you in so much so that you feel as if you are actually there alongside them! I am so looking forward to reading the next book!

The constant producing of condoms has me rolling so hard 😂 also I’m sorry but these men are so soft, your girl gets kicked out by your washed up dad with nowhere to go and you guys are like I’ll reach out when I can & let her leave 😂 LIKE WHAT?! Also I’m bored, this is so REPETITIVE 😩 but the book gets bonus points for a decent group scene 🎬

Mercy is such a strong FMC and I love how she's growing stronger with every book. Her determination to see Paradise Bend back to its former glory is admirable to say the least. That ending definitely made me beg for more

Lost its luster
This third book in the series was pretty disappointing. I found myself very long action scenes that dragged out for me. Some of the chemistry is gone, and I noticed that there’s not a lot of dialogue. Most of this is just description and explanation of things happening. Ruthless is right
Oh man this book is amazing and full of plenty of action and heat!!! Mercy and the guys are trying to survive not only from attacks from her mysterious stalker but also the rival gangs trying to take over. And let's not forget about the biggest threat of all... the big man in charge.
I read/listened to this book and it was amazing. I can't wait to see what happens next because that cliffhanger was wow
Oh man this book is amazing and full of plenty of action and heat!!! Mercy and the guys are trying to survive not only from attacks from her mysterious stalker but also the rival gangs trying to take over. And let's not forget about the biggest threat of all... the big man in charge.

So this wasn't a bad installment, however the pacing of it was pretty slow. And because of that it was a little dry and boring. There is also a lot of waiting before things finally start moving forward near the end.
Still, there were some good things that happened in this one.
Mercy's relationships with each of the guys and the dynamic of the RH was really solidified in this one. I also like how the RH develops kind of organically in this series as opposed to being something one or all of them plan out. It's kind of a nice change and I think it develops well in a natural sort of way.
They also do make some strides forward with the gang war. Not much, but some. I do wish the pacing was faster and the momentum was more intense. But at least some progress was made.
There are some parts of the story that I don't like though.
The biggest one is that Mercy, Wylder, and the other guys come across as rather incompetent most of the time. 90% of their plans end up failing. And it just seems like they are a bit amateurish at all of this. I just would love it they came across as more competent and had more wins in their favor instead of so many flops.
Speaking of incompetence, I don't understand how Ezra has actually gotten to the place he has as a gang leader. There's this huge turf war right outside his door and he's dragging his feet to get involved. It makes no sense for him to ignore this rival gang that has literally threatened him at his own house. Wylder is 100% right that it makes him look weak that he doesn't strike back. And while it seems like he's finally on board now, he seems like a complete idiot to wait so long to get his feet wet in this turf war.
Some of the other things about this gang war also don't make complete sense.
Like why would the Storm guys want to massacre and destroy this new area they want to control? I get that they were going after the Red Sharks, but it seems like they are just destroying the entire area. How will they make any money there if all of the people are dead or ran off? It's just bad business.
The other thing about this gang war that doesn't make sense is the various groups constantly trying to setup the others by getting them caught by cops. I'm pretty sure there's like an unspoken rule among gangs that that's not how they solve things among themselves. So this doesn't seem very realistic to me.
Aside from the gang war issues, there's still the matter of a spy among them. Or are we assuming it was Axel's lackey? Because some of the information Xavier had only their inner crew (and Anthea) knew about. Which leads me to still believe Anthea might be a spy and not actually on their side. This seems like an obvious thing to me? Unless I'm totally off base, I guess. But I don't think I am.
Anyways overall the story is still interesting enough to finish it. But this one was a lot slower than I'd like. I hope the final book is more exciting and gripping.

Crooked Paradise is a damn good series and the third book, Ruthless Queen is just more proof of how amazing this series is and I'm someone who doesn't read contemporary. Eva and Harlow have written a complex and intriguing plot that has me completely captivated, dying to know what's gonna happen next. The characters are so complex with their interesting dynamics and tragic backstories that I can't help but sympathize with them, root for them. Mercy and the guys are back and it's time to get down to business.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt Mercy has been through so much in her life, a lot of it happening currently she's been shot, stalked, jumped, tortured, survived several assassination attempts and she's still going strong, a lesser person would have just given in but not Mercy. She's standing tall, trying to fix so many wrongs and get back her city from the newest gangs that are moving in. Mercy is more than physically strong and emotionally capable, the way Mercy's mind works is completely genius and I love it. Mercy is an observer, she looks and analyzes everything (I think that's why she and Gideon get along so well) logs the information, and comes up with logical theories, and this time she has the guys supporting her.
It's no secret that things started out pretty rough between Mercy and the guys but once they got to know her they couldn't help but fall for such a bright spirit and as she got to know them she couldn't help but see the good they have, the vulnerability they show and because they live in a world she grew up in they understand her on a level that people outside the life can't. Even things between her and Rowan heat up in this one and before I knew it everyone is all in, the guys with Mercy and she with them. Kaige opens up about his horrible childhood, Gideon lets more of his feelings show, Wylder has become less selfish and controlling, and Rowan and Mercy finally connect. I love how they got each others' backs, how they work together to get things done, and how they care about each other. The guys make a good team but with Mercy, they are even better, she brings something they were missing.
Ezra Noble and his number one, Axel, annoyed me beyond belief in this book. Ezra has tried to kill Mercy a few times now and it doesn't look like he's gonna stop and Axel is determined to undermine Wylder and the guys every chance he gets. The bright note in this crew is Anthea, the woman scares the crap out of me but she cares for the guys and since Mercy earned her friendship she's been there for Mercy as a true friend. I like Anthea a lot, she seems to be a real powerhouse who doesn't get the respect she deserves from her Ezra. This series is almost over and I would be lying if I say I'm not hoping Anthea has her own spin-off featuring a little harem of her own in New York, now that is a book I would read.
The plot for Ruthless Queen was fantastic and a lot of the things I did not see coming. As mentioned before Ezra is still around, now that I've seen more of him I see how truly evil he is but I'm wondering how good is he at running his business. He seems to concentrate on the wrong things (meaning Wylder and his group) and Axel doesn't seem to be the wisest person to have as a number one, the man is not the sharpest pencil in the box. Then there is all this dirty that Mercy has uncovered about her father and the reason why everything went to complete shit in the Bend. Things stemming back from the first book are connecting to this story and some blanks are being filled but I still have so many more questions. I'm so ready to dive into the fourth and final book in the series, Lethal Empress.

“Hold on. I feel like I’ve missed a whole movie. What the hell are you talking about? Shark, Storm, is this the fucking National Geographic Channel?”
Okay, normally I don’t use quotes in my reviews but this little bit of dialogue from Kaige changed my mind. I fucking love Kaige. His backstory was tragic and his character makes a lot more sense now. Honestly, all of the guys make more sense now. This book (in addition to the information from the previous one) unpacked a lot about the guys.
I like Wylder a lot more now. He’s a lot less of an asshole and a lot more likable. And he’s finally standing up to his asshole of a father (and that right hand man of his). Axel has been getting on my nerves and I shed no tears when Wylder blew his brains out.
Things with Ezra seem tense but I’m glad he’s finally going to start taking Xavier more seriously as a threat. Honestly, I don’t understand how he’s managed to become this ruthless leader of the Nobles. He doesn’t seem to take much action when the Bend is in chaos or the fact that Xavier is a huge threat. All Ezra does is manhandle his son and, for some reason, stubbornly view Mercy as a threat even though she’s an excellent asset.
My heart dropped when Gideon got caught by Xavier. For a split second, I thought he wouldn’t make it out alive. Thankfully he did. And that fivesome after his rescue was amazing. I was wondering when all of them would be in a smut scene together and my curiosity was satiated.
I still don’t understand Xavier. I thought this book would clarify where he came from and what his motives were but nope. So far he’s just a psychopath who for some reason has a huge grudge against Mercy. I was hoping that would be explained but was sorely disappointed. Honestly, Colt was a better villain. I at least knew the whole backstory with Colt. Also, what is up with the Storm and the Red Sharks? What the fuck are these names? I’m going to have to agree with Kaige about this becoming the National Geographic channel.
Let’s talk about that plot twist. I thought Gideon was making it up when he told Xavier that Wylder had a brother. Imagine my surprise when Roland, Wylder’s brother, turns up dead. That was a heck of a plot twist. Speaking of the Noble heirs, what the heck was Ezra trying to pull when he tried to get Rowan to become part of his inner circle? That was such an asshole move.
All in all, this book was slow on the plot. I thought Wylder and his posse was supposed to be powerful and shit but it seems like they fail a lot. There were a lot of pages dedicated to building the relationship between Mercy and the boys though, so that sort of makes up for it.

I have no idea where this is even heading, especially after that ending. They got sedated, so I’m guessing we’re about to get the classic round of torture and suffering before any real resolution. The relationships are all starting to take shape. Wylder’s open and actually sharing things now, and Gideon - he’s as vulnerable as ever. He tells her he wants her, but not love yet, and he’s clearly the softer one of the group. Cage is still his flirty, cocky self, and Rowan’s over there just trying to get her to notice him in the same way. You can tell she finds him strange, maybe even intimidating, but honestly, she doesn’t seem to care enough to be scared.
Ezra pretty much has it out for Mercy - he clearly doesn’t want her around the guys, and Xavier’s not far behind, both of them gunning for her in their own ways. Kaige, on the other hand, is getting clingier by the day (not complaining about that), and he finally starts opening up about his past. It’s nice seeing that side of him. You can tell he’s trying to let her in, even if he doesn’t totally know how.

I was nervous about where the authors were going to go with this but loved it so much, all the twists and turns. I liked getting to see some of the backstory that we hadn't gotten yet, seeing how the various gangs ended up in Mercy's town, people getting hurt left and right for the struggle in power. Loved seeing Mercy step up, even though some were lost and more injured, it was good to see her rally her guys and try and get more info about what was really going on. I loved see Wylder stand up to his dad and what happened in the showdown at the end made me smile and laugh (might be a bad person for that, but that character deserved it!). I liked how twisted the baddie was and how he kept getting to Mercy. I appreciated Gideon trying to step up and pull more weight (even then it totally wasn't necessary since he is their IT whiz) and loved how Mercy and the guys were able to come through at the end. I thought the group steamy scene was fabulous 🔥🔥🔥. I will say the final coming together with Mercy and Rowan didnt feel as truthful/flow didnt feel as right for some reason. I think Wylder jumped for me in my favorite list and Kaige's backstory and sweet moments with Mercy made the story even better. Great job by the authors at mixing, grit, steam, romance, action, and emotional moments!!
In terms of narration, another great job by these narrators at bringing Mercy and the Nobles to life. I thought both did a great job with the other side characters (since we met more from the various gangs in this one). They truly brought the characters to life in my minds' eye. I felt like I was in the Bend and all the suspense was around me haha. J.F and Ava's perspective and performances were fantastic and will definitely listen to them in the future, that's for sure.
I will say I am intrigued to see Ezra get what's coming to him after how he treated Mercy. Can't wait for book 4 to be on audio next year ❤️

Okay okay okay
About 50% in and Ezra is expecting Wylder to kill Mercy (we all knew this was going to happen .. I mean he hates her) but before that happened, Axel has been giving them A LOT of shit and I was thinking 'why haven't they killed his ass yet'. He has been targeting them and undermining Wylder, like he's trying to get Ezra to pick him as the Noble heir instead. He's really disrespectful too. But when Ezra pulled that expecting him to just kill her, my mind switched to 'Why not take them both out?!? and let Wylder reign supreme! lol' If they could get rid of Axel and get him out of the way then they can get Ezra out either full frontal hostile take over or by sneaky means and Wylder act like he was not part of it. I was like WHY deal with it. Blame the deaths of Xavier hahaha.
I jumped for joy when Axel died. Trying to put off his own fuckups from his own men on the guys and Mercy. mannnn he deserved that bullet to the head :D
I felt so bad for Gideon when Roland ended up killed like that. We all know he is blaming himself for even bringing him up. But it's definitely not his fault.
THAT ENDING! When she yelled Kaige's name my heart fucking dropped!! Just completely stopped beating for a second because of course I thought he'd been shot right through his throat and was dead before I realized what they were shot with. WHEW! hahaha
This book was such a fast read. There is a lot going on but it's easy to follow along. You'll start reading this then all of a sudden you're half way through the book.
I am loving this world. Mercy and her men are not perfect, but they are all badass. Anthea too! I wish there was more of the boys' point of view. We mostly get Mercy with one of the guys sprinkled through out.
Now I got to get back to book 4 cause shit just got really real.

I jumped for joy when Axel died. Trying to put off his own fuckups from his own men on the guys and Mercy. mannnn he deserved that bullet to the head :D
I felt so bad for Gideon when Roland ended up killed like that. We all know he is blaming himself for even bringing him up. But it's definitely not his fault.
THAT ENDING! When she yelled Kaige's name my heart fucking dropped!! Just completely stopped beating for a second because of course I thought he'd been shot right through his throat and was dead before I realized what they were shot with. WHEW! hahaha
This book was such a fast read. There is a lot going on but it's easy to follow along. You'll start reading this then all of a sudden you're half way through the book.
I am loving this world. Mercy and her men are not perfect, but they are all badass. Anthea too! I wish there was more of the boys' point of view. We mostly get Mercy with one of the guys sprinkled through out.
Now I got to get back to book 4 cause shit just got really real.

A little dull at times.
Not a very captivating book, I was just pushing through to finish the book.
Some of it came out a bit forced.
🔸Not much for plot nor character development
- They have a lot of enemies, they apparently are all powerful (but nothing was shown to prove it actually) and they go ahead with barely no preparation nor backup.
For a fierce gang, they act like inflated-ego teenagers.
- Petty inner confrontations (between gangs, gang members, girls)
- Gang without proper organisation, methods and security.
- The villains... sometimes they are a bit over the top and then meh and back to overdone.
🔸The romance?
Meh.
Not very romantic nor steamy.
No deep emotional connection.
Some sexy times and that's it.
They are just having fun, no labels, but they are protective of each other and have each other's backs.
