Then You Saw Me
You know what’s guaranteed to send your heart into your throat? Opening the front door of your off-campus house to find the boy you had a crush on all through high school telling you he’s the new subletter.

I don't know why, but I've always been a sucker for any book that involves a letter, texts, pen pals...anything like that. So, when I read the blurb for Then You Saw Me by Carrie Aarons, my interest was immediately piqued.
Taya was in love with Austin, the hometown golden boy, from the time that she was a young teen. He never even knew that she existed. Then, Austin shows up years later as Taya's new college roommate. Maybe this is her chance to get his attention, but then a letter shows up. One that Taya wrote as a lovesick teenager, and Austin reads it. That one letter could change everything.
Now, I thought that this was probably going to be the typical "unrequited college romance" story, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. First off, Austin isn't the typical college romance hero. He's not the arrogant, womanizing athlete that we see in a lot of college romances, and although he is a bit of a commitment-phobe, he has legitimate reasons for his reservations.
I absolutely loved both Taya and Austin. They are both vulnerable characters with insecurities and struggles, but they both want to be fight for their futures. My heart broke for both of them due to their family dynamics, and I enjoyed watching them grow and stand up for themselves and for what they want.
The only downside to this story is that I would have liked to see further into the future. However, I could imagine some really good stories coming from other characters in this group of friends, so I'm hopeful that there will be another story set in this world and that we'll see more of Taya and Austin too.

What a marvelous introduction to the sweet and inventive writing of Carrie Aarons. Then You Saw Me plays on familiar tropes, but because our characters are so special, they feel entirely fresh and non-cliche. The central love story is a forced proximity, unrequited love story- but it evolves into something so much more than that as these two unlikely roommates find a surprisingly sincere and heartfelt connection while working through their own personal baggage. It’s everything I love about new adult- two people finding a powerful connection is the catalyst that helps them grow up into their best selves.
While I did feel the romantic side of this moved a bit slower than I normally prefer, the characters are just so charming and endearing. Taya is relatable as a wallflower heroine, the girl used to be unnoticed and unappreciated, a girl whose insecurities I think we can all relate to in some way. I loved her beautiful heart and her character arc as she finds herself in her connection with Austin. And Austin is quite a delightful surprise. While he has the outermakings of your stereotypical popular alpha college guy, Carrie constructs him outside of trope. He’s thoughtful and a good guy- just a swoony sweetie. And, he’s a hero whose hesitations around relationships. you actually find understandable. Their chemistry is really sweet, and though we have some expected new adult miscommunication angst, their connection feels substantial, and the conflicts are both believable and empathetic.

Then You Saw Me is a new adult romance. When Taya’s roommate leaves, she is shocked to see Austin, her childhood crush, subletting. Taya hasn’t seen him in years and while she’s always held a little bit of a torch for him, she has mostly moved on with her life. But, here he is back in her space.
The setup of this book is so unique. I think anyone would be mortified if you’re childhood crush found a letter you wrote about them and even signed their last name on there. The fact that she can even come back from that tells you exactly who Taya was. You do understand Austin’s hesitancy right away. His family has their hands into everything in their small town. Their name is everywhere. Thus, people want to get close to them for their fame and money. He’s afraid she’s just another girl who wants his last name for the prestige.
There is so much family drama and problems at the heart of this book that you don’t expect at all. Taya is always second in her parent’s lives, behind her little sister. She is forgotten and in the background all the time. Austin has responsibilities that come with his family name but he wants to live his life his way. His parents and relatives were awful. I loved how Austin and Taya changed throughout the story.
The roommates and Austin’s best friends were an excellent addition to the book. I’m hoping a few of them might get their own stories. I do wish the epilogue was further in the future though. This is a unique, entertaining new adult between a girl and her childhood crush. I would definitely recommend it.

2.5 stars - the push and pull between the MC's is very frustrating and the letter is cringe worthy 🙈
The secondary characters and both of their families are toxic and dramatic not interested to know more about them.

This was my first book by the author and I loved it, the story captivated me from the beginning and I’ll definitely keep reading the author’s books.
I loved Taya’s relationship with her friends, they always had each other’s backs and despite being so honest with each other they always wanted the best for everyone. Taya never felt important to her family so she always tried to be on the background, at least she had amazing friends who supported her and cared about her. Austin also had family problems, his family was really important in his hometown so he always felt he had to be aware of what people wanted of him. They both were from the same city and while Taya had a crush on him a few years back he never noticed her until now.
Austin was in his last year so he just wanted to finish college and work so he didn’t have time to be in a relationship. When he saw Taya as his new roommate he tried really hard to be in her radar and just talk to her. At first she was hesitant because of her crush but Austin was very determined to be friends and little by little they started sharing more. They were very attracted to each other and I loved how Austin realized after a while she was pretty great and he always was drawn to her.
At first they had some issues to face but they couldn’t stay away from each other and they both needed the comfort the other provided. I also loved their steamy scenes, being roommates definitely had advantages and their chemistry was always off the charts.
Despite of their family problems I loved how they both stood up to their own families and did everything to think about themselves and not the rest. They both deserved to be happy and I really loved how they got their HEA.
Now I can’t wait to read the next books and see what happens with the other couples.

I was lucky enough to get a super-duper early copy of this book from the author, and I could not put it down!! Taya lives out her teenage nightmare and fantasy all at once in this sizzling roommates romance. I thought I had Austin pegged as a character, but there are a lot of layers to the guy. Taya knew him as their hometown's golden boy, but there is so much more to him than meets the eye. Both of their families are incredibly dysfunctional, and while it is deep-seated insecurities as a result of their family dynamics that cause problems for Taya and Austin, they also heal each other's broken parts beautifully as their relationship develops.
Then You Saw Me is the start to a new series by Carrie Aarons, and the other roommates in the college rental house on Prospect Street will get books in the future. Bring on the forced proximity, roommate rollercoasters! I'm dying to know what Gannon's deal is!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!! I swear I love this author with any story she writes, but her college romance are the best. They’re so addicting.
Austin was the hottest and the sweetest man ever. He was just beautiful all around and he had so much to offer. It’s so ironic that Taya thought he was this far out of reach popular guy. Where’s Austin just wanted to be seen as the normal guy.
My heart hurt for them both on their common ground of their families and how they leaned on each other for the support they weren’t getting.
My favorite moments were when Austin would appear out of nowhere just to share moments with Taya. He found ways to see and talk to her even though he didn’t understand why.
The secondary characters were everything and I’m dying to get more books in this series because they’re just so freakin good.
Austin and Taya were explosive in the way of their chemistry, steaminess, and love. They went in hard for every fact and it just made me fall in love with them more. The ending was exactly what I needed for this couple.

I pretty much jump at any book that Carrie Aarons releases and this one was no different.
Then You Saw Me is a college romance full of angst and even some family drama. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of this book Carrie delivers a normal issue in a unique way that would have even the most confident people, feeling a bit aghast.
Taya is character that so many of us can relate to in different ways. I love how Carrie is able to deliver a familiar trope in a non-cliché way. Taya had the biggest crush on Austin when they were growing up but he never paid her much attention. She's always blended into the background and kept her head down. Austin comes from a family that everyone knows and respects. His family practically owns and runs the small town both he and Taya are from. But he's truly not what readers will think. I honestly love that Carrie brings us another character that will not the fit the norm of what we expect in college romance reads.
This story is full of growth, discovering your self-worth and a romance that will readers will love. I loved the banter, the honest connection between them and fully rounded secondary characters that help build this new series. I am looking forward to seeing more stories form them all.

HOLY college angst! This one will burn your heart and want to rage but absolutely adore everything about Taya and Austin. The banter, the emotions and the pain that are woven into these pages is intense and will leave your heart racing. Growing up in a small town, Austin was a God, all because of his family name, but to him it is a prison. Then Taya, from the same town, with a school girl crush on Austin. Obviously now that she is in college she hadn’t thought of him as often but boom, new roommate! This sets off a series of events that will have you wanting to swoon, yell and cry but laugh at moments too. My heart ached for these two as they navigate the pains of a troubled family life and more. But their connection is intense. There are a lot of ups and downs with subtle twists that will have you aching to know more. This is a great start to a series that I am dying to know what happens with the other girls!

I absolutely adored Taya and Austin! Taya was a love sick teenager pining for a boy two years older than her who didn't know she existed. Austin was the boy who's family owned the town and he was skeptical that girls only wanted his last name. Fast forward two years when Taya goes to college with her two best friends. They live in a house with three other guys and one of the guys moves out and along came Austin to sublet his room. Austin inadvertently opens mail that belonged to Taya and reads something he shouldn't...
Another great story by Carrie Aarons and I can't wait to see which character's will be next up in this sure to be sequel!!

The title of this book works so well on different levels! Younger Taya and Austin, Austin and his family and Taya and her family. There is also the added layer of both main characters needing to stand up for themselves and acknowledge their own worth. Their romance is a sweet one, set against the romantic ups and downs of their fellow housemates, but, of course, not without its own drama.
I enjoyed this read. My only quibble was that, to mee, Taya's internal voice seemed younger than her years. Overall a good read. 💖💖💖💖

I saw another review mention the fact that they hate it when Authors put their hs' in humiliating positions in front of the H and I would totally have to agree. 🙄🙄 Literally the worse. 😫 The premise of this book and the second looked good so I guess that's why I picked this up to read, even though I'm not a massive fan of Carrie Aarons' writing. I will definitely check out the second book in this series though. Even though there was nothing remarkable or wow about this first book in this series. 🤷🏻♀️

I adored reading about Austin and Taya's story. I have been in reading the opposite spectrum of my normal trope. Anyways, Taya has been in love with Austin throughout highschool and during in college Taya catches the eye of Austin. But, a time capsule has a confession of Taya she forgot about and Austin sees it and freaks out. Anyways, I love reading Carrie's book that are full of swhelloon and angst. Small town friends to coming of age stories are my jam. I am running out of thoughts to come forth. I don't want to ruin anything because I feel I have the capability to do so. LOL i hope I didn't ruin anything. Anyways, why do i love reading small town town folks getting together a little later in their fives? Because, I know I was an awkwark introvery back in H.S and blossomed later. So, I'm glad Taya grew into herself and somehow became who she became during this story. I can't recommend this book any higher. I can't wait for you all to read this book..

It took me a bit to fall for Austin. He had a way about him, and part of it was how he kept thinking the worst of Taya. Not to mention that he didn’t even really remember her from high school even when they had danced together. Yeah, I get it, but it sounds like a small enough town that he should have somewhat remembered dancing with her, even if she’d been kind of nerdy to him or something back then. I also don’t quite get how her time capsule letter ended up getting mailed when it did either. I mostly enjoyed the story, it was pretty good, and I liked the side characters a lot, I’d definitely like to see some of them get their own stories. However I was a little frustrated with Austin for all his issues and how he handled them I guess more than anything. In the end I liked how they ended up figuring things out, and that redeemed the small issues I had with Austin for me.

I tried. I really did. Two times.
I was ready to overlook the writing style for the sake of reading a chill college romance. But I really couldn't.
It was so disturbing to read how EVRY TINY BIT of EVERY UNNECESSARY INFORMATION was written out. And not only once. But rather TWICE because this is a double POV and the author decided to re-explain everything that happened just 2 minutes ago in the previous chapter.
No. Just no. I will gibe Carrie Aarons another try, especially because there is one book I already bought. But this one is a HARD pass. The characters are annoying, the writing is cheesy and not enjoyable at all, and some of the written things really go against my morals. Especially the part where Austin says that he would not turn Taya down, if she came drunk into his room after a night of partying. Excuse me but a character who says that (in a contemporary romance book) just in the first few pages, will never be liked by me. And I won't read a book where I despise the love interest.

The characters are really cliche (I also find it weird that they care so much about what people did back in high school like being prom king etc - like it's college no one would care). The plot is meh ig.
To put it really simply, this book really bores me and I don't think I have the strength to slug through it even. DNF

Review: I absolutely adore Carrie's writing so when I saw an opening on the ARC team for this book I absolutely jumped at the chance. Carrie's writing always flows so beautifully, she was one of the first authors to make me cry from her words. Bevan is not the main character of this book but I really hope she gets her own because it would be amazing. With her whip smart, no fucks given attitude, the man to win her heart would need balls of steel. I do love how awkward Taya is. I love how Taya and Austin bond over their shitty families, sometimes it's the easiest way to connect with people. I love a good HEA.

Carrie Aarons has once again delivered a must-read college romance, that highlights the difficulties of family life, finding your way in your early twenties, and never being afraid to go after what you want, whether that be a person or your dream career.
Taya has had a crush on Austin Van Hewitt since she was a preteen, the untouchable popular guy in school who came from their town’s most successful family. So, when Austin suddenly moves into their college house in her sophomore year for his final few months at the school, she is in shock. While her crush has faded over the years, being under the same roof brings back all these emotions, and for the first time, Austin is noticing her too. They begin this dance around one another, their attraction growing, until Austin receives a letter written by 14-year-old Taya which changes everything. Will the letter ruin the connection they’ve started to build, or will the real-life Austin shatter the illusion Taya has always had of him in her head?
Carrie writes these characters so well, there is so much real emotion in this book because I’m pretty sure that most people in their early twenties ask themselves the same questions Taya and Austin do when faced with their entire future. But both of them were going through other things with their families, having to make tough decisions and choosing when to pick their battles. In ways, they were both quite mature for their age, but then there were times when the typical college miscommunication happened, which made it even more realistic. The message of how although you can’t choose your blood, you can choose who you consider family, and those people should never hold you back from pursuing your dream, which is something you should never stop striving to achieve.
I love how the other housemates’’ stories have been left open, and I hope that Carrie continues with this group, because I am hooked to know if they all get their happily ever afters!

Enjoyed Austin & Taya's story. Nicely written YA book and I loved the other characters in this book. The ladies were quick witted and held nothing back! Taya & Austin's journey wasn't easy and I enjoyed seeing them grow and work through their issues!

Another emotionally fulfilling college romance from Carrie Aarons. I love the premise of this book. I was immediately interested! Who wouldn’t love it if their longtime crush finally notices them and wants to be given a chance??
Austin and Taya grew up in the same town and that’s where their similarities end until they both decided to attend the same college. For two years they were on the same campus and never ran into each other. However with Austin’s senior year almost over his roommate decides to move his girlfriend into their apartment and Austin decides he’s had enough. So he sublets a room in a house full
of sophomores from his hometown for his last semester of college.
Taya is terribly surprised/caught off-guard to say the least when Austin shows up. He didn’t know about her crush but it turns out she wasn’t quite truthful to herself when she said she was over her hometown Prince Charming who was actually homecoming king every year he was in high school. Being in his vicinity on the daily is excruciating except unknown to her, Austin can’t stop himself being attracted to Taya.
I love these two together and was so happy when things seemed to be heading in the right direction only for it to get blown apart when a mysterious letter shows up.
The other roommates really added to the feeling of the story as well. There’s great friendships and love between them even through difficult times. I know there’s more stories with all of them and I really hope they get told soon.
I’m never disappointed when I pick up a Carrie Aarons book and this one is another one to love from her. Don’t miss out on this “crush that almost got away” love story!

Taya North crushed majorly on Austin Van Hewitt back in high school. He was the golden boy of their small town and he always seemed out of reach. Taya has always felt overlooked in life, especially by her younger sister. Now, in college, Taya is living with her best friends and going after her goals. When one of her roommates takes a leave of absence from school to go on a reality show, Austin sublets and becomes Taya’s new roommate.
Austin is instantly drawn to Taya, but is hesitant to start something with someone from his hometown. People idolize him because of his family, and he wants to distance himself from his family - and their demands. But, will he be able to stay away from Taya when they live together??
Another great read from Carrie Aarons! This book is the first in a series following a group of friends who share a house in college. There were some great scenes between the guys and girls in the house and you got to see just how much these friends treat each other like family. The talks between the three girls - Taya, Amelie and Bevan — were so great and reminded me of my college friends.
As to Taya and Austin, talk about slow burn! They clearly are drawn to one another, but are so hesitant to finally go after each other. When they finally do, HOLY CHEMISTRY! 🥵 Austin Van Hewitt gets the award for “nice guy who is secretly a bit of a freak” 😂😂
What I loved most about them is how vulnerable they were able to be with one another and help each other overcome their insecurities and fears.
Austin felt so stifled by his family’s demands. Taya constantly felt overlooked by her parents, and even by Austin. Both of them wanted to be with someone who wanted them, plain and simple. I also loved Taya. I totally connected to her as a character, because she often pushed others away and hid her feelings and it was amazing to watch her start to stand up for herself and express her emotions.
I can’t wait for book two!!!

With ups and downs, twists and turns, the author tells Taya and Austin’s story. The attraction that the two share is powerful. Taya’s story of feeling unseen, always the forgotten one. I loved watching her story unfold. I could feel her emotions like they were my own.
And Austin…..oh lawd! He was beautifully chiseled and perfect for his role in Taya’s life. He comes from a ritch family and working in his family's business is expected of him, yet he doesn't want it. His heart craves something else.
One not being seen and one in a constant spotlight... It’s one hell of a ride! And the chemistry! I could feel it.
If you want a fast paced, completely captivating, undeniably amazing story, then this 5 star read is for you. But, be warned! There are secondary characters just as beautiful and interesting as Taya and Austin were, and it will leave you wanting for more instantly.

Then You Saw Me is the first book that I've read by Carrie Aarons. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this book more than I have ever expected. If you're in the mood for unrequited love and forced proximity trope, then this book is definitely for you. I'm a huge fan of both tropes, so I really considered this story as a major win for me 🤣
Talking about the characters, I really adore both of them. Despite the slow burn, it's extremely clear the deep attraction that these two have for one another. I just loved reading the development that these characters went through throughout the entire story. Not gonna lie, some parts of the story got me a little bit emotional, but that's what makes it so interesting.
Overall, it was a great read for me, and I was able to finish everything in one day. I think Carrie has done a good job in delivering this story. I really recommend for everyone to try out this book.

It was such a cute book. The angst just punched me in the gut. It was so freaking angsty and the chemistry🔥🔥 I have no words.
Austin is a famous guy whose parents owned half the hometown from where Taya and her best friends are. The time capsule one was my most anticipated chapter and it absolutely didn't let me down. Taya is such a strong woman, I loved her, she had to go through so much and buried it 😭 they were really so bad to her...ugh that was so sad. Don't even get me started on Austin's.
When they get together it was just a bliss to see until something came along but at the end they did overcome all their insecurities and doubts.
Special mention: The girl's bond and friendship. Damn reminded me of my girlfriends. The love, the support, ah it was perfect.

Then You Saw Me is a standalone New Adult Romance book about Taya and Austin.
I know every time I start a book by Carrie Aarons, I know that I’m going to enjoy it. Then You Saw Me was no exception. I really loved reading Then You Saw Me because it was so well-written and fast paced. This book also discusses dysfunctional families which made this book interesting, relatable and not just a book about a love story.
I really liked Taya as a main character. I love that she had a crush on Austin when she was younger, it reminds me of my crush when I was in high school. I also really loved Taya’s friends, the three of them are so different yet form a perfect group of friends. The moment I read about Austin, I fell in love with him. I think he’s really cute and perfect for Taya!
Then You Saw Me was such a good New Adult Romance and I really enjoyed reading it. Carrie Aarons’ writing is so good, she keeps writing these amazing Romance books and I’m always excited for her new releases. I think she did such a good job with Then You Saw Me! If you’re looking for a college Romance with the forced proximity trope, then Then You Saw Me is the perfect read for you!

This is an easy and fun NA story about what happens when the boy you've always crushed upon from your hometown finally notices you. But what you don't expect is how Aarons brings depth into discovering the characters - who they are, their family dynamics, hopes & aspirations.
Taya and Austin may each know that while things may look easy to outsiders, walking your respective path comes with its own personal battles and demons. Funnily enough, they both failed to understand how they were walking parallel paths. These characters in their early 20s are quite mature in their aspirations and knowing what they want out of life. While they take a few tumbles into the pitfalls of misunderstanding and miscommunication, there's no denying that they truly are made for each other.
All they needed was to truly see each other!
