Like the Wizard of OZ, we begin with a young girl and a tornado. In that case, we soon found that we weren’t in Kansas anymore. This time, we are and indeed remain, in Louisiana. Or do we? Keep your wits about you, as we whirl back and forth through the timeline of twelve-year-old A.B. “Abby” Rubideaux. Through Abby’s timeline and beyond, far beyond…

K G Duncan is an educator and this is clear in his evident understanding of pre-teen kids and their world. He is also a terrific writer, as you will see quite readily in just the opening Tornado sequence alone. To tell you much more would be to risk spoilers and the beauty of this book, is in the way it unfolds in unexpected ways as you read.

So, pick up the book, start reading and find out if a twelve-year-old from the Bayous really has an ancient dragon living inside her, or whether she is only dreaming of dragons…

This book is what the world needs right now. Time to self reflect on the good within everyone and find your inner dragon. This book really makes you look inward and has you learning and growing with Abby as she goes through her changes and metamorphosis. Olivia is my favorite character and I love the excerpts of poetry interlaced between the main chapters. Looking forward to the second book!

I am the author of this book, so my view may be a bit biased! Seriously though, I am very proud of this book and would love to hear what others think of it. It was 4 years in the making... several deaths in the family (including my mom and dad) happened while I was writing, and I kept putting it on the back-burner. But Covid was a blessing in disguise, and all the shut-in time at home allowed me to finish it! Book 2 will be out by Christmas! I hope you can find the time to read it. Visit my goodreads page/blog and let's start a conversation. I am open to all creatures great and small--oh and all the myriad variety of humans, too! Thanks!

Vivid characters, interesting ideas, and a compelling plot keep me turning pages.

Finished this and love the optimism of the book. Abby's growth and greater understanding of the dragon within kept me interested. I also enjoyed the relationship between Abby and her friend Olivia!
