Since this is a collection of historical erotica and not historical romance (though some of the stories definitely included sweet feels), I decided to rate in flames rather than stars. I didn’t read every short story (the author’s trigger warnings before each story helped me to decide which I wanted to read) but I really enjoyed those that I chose to read.
I’d love to know who the author is! Quality, top-notch writing. Found this at the back of the book:
Anonymous is a USA Today Bestselling author of sixty books in a multitude of genres, known for sizzling stories about flawed, passionate characters.
I have a few guesses but I’m keeping them to myself for now.

A little something for everyone! Highly recommended if you enjoy well-written historical erotica.
This book was by far the best erotica I've ever read. It was definitely erotica but it wasn't weird like some of the more popular and well-known erotica. I enjoyed it. Before each chapter, there is a trigger warning type synopsis and I really really appreciated that. The writing and storytelling are very good as well. I feel like normally in erotica, you either get good writing with a boring story or a good story with horrendous writing. Overall, great erotica.
I am typically not the type of person who gets jazzed up for an anthology or collection of stories and yet this month I have jumped on two! Call me pleasantly surprised when this compilation of short, erotic stories set in the regency/historical eras crossed my path and had me swooning. Each story is an intricate foray into the discovery of the sensual senses with imaginative and vividly depicted scenes.
I loved the uniqueness of each little plot and how there is quite literally something for everyone in these pages. I was engrossed by the feminine strength, exploration and the overall ownership of pleasure and self that each story elicited. If I had a complaint, it was only that some did not last long enough. This will be an anthology I will revisit often to reminisce over my favorite characters and their excursions into the taboo.
If you’re a reader like myself and enjoy the delicious intimacy of the carnal and sexy than you will want to add this to your shelves. The perfect anthology of dark little joyous secrets you can pull out and enjoy whenever you’re in the mood for a quickie. Thank you, Entangled Publishing, and to Anonymous for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. My inner tigress is purring delightedly.
There are so many different types of erotic stories written outside the usual hetero normative and each have a warning of the main theme of the story in case you may be sensitive to the topic explored.
I may have had to take breaks since this one was very steamy and was continuous steam. So that's why it's a little past the pub date. My husband wasn't complaining lol since he was the innocent bystander. He's fine don't worry about him.
I was reading through some other reviews and I agree that I liked that all the situations and relationships were consensual and they all had a happily ever after in their own unconventional ways. Unconventional as not vanilla as we are used to since these are all regency/historical English settings.
Like all the reviews we wish we knew who Anonymous is so that we can read further work. Will they write under Anonymous for future short stories or works? Asking for all my book friends?

Aphrodite in Bloom by Anonymous A Collection of Erotic Stories
Luscious lusty lovingly told stories that were absolutely lovely. I can easily see this book being kept at the side of one’s bed to read and reread alone…or…with a lover or two or three ;)
What I liked: * The writing – superbly written, hot, steamy, drew me in and made me care * The wide variety in the various stories * That I could actually visualize the scenes and at times felt I could have stepped into some of them * The historical setting * That there were characters from more than one social class. * That the lovers were given happy endings even if sometimes unconventional * Wondering who the anonymous author might be and wanting to read more of their work * That the stories accomplished their purpose…am sure my glasses steamed up more than a few times * That each story was complete * That relationships were consensual * Everything about these stories was superb
What I didn’t like: * I usually put this section in but…there isn’t anything for me to say that I didn’t like. The only story that I didn’t relate to quite as well was one with letters and that surprised me since I have always been a pen pal throughout my life.
Did I enjoy this book? YES! Would I read more by this author? Definitely…if I knew who it was ;)
Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled-Amara, and Insklinger PR for the ARC – This is my honest review.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and options are my own.
I should have realized what I was agreeing to before I selected this ARC. I didnt realize that this was a historical erotic short story collection. I don't read historical romance. Like ever. I’ve tried multiple times. Sometimes, when I’ve read one, I liked it, but a majority of the time I don't enjoy them. However, I found this book to be a pleasant surprise. I actually really enjoyed this anthology a lot. Which really surprised me. I thought it had a great variation, was great writing and they were the perfect length.
The writing is quite good, definitely much better than much of the erotica/romance I've read. It's descriptive and thoughtful, while still being exciting. I enjoyed the stories being set in the regency era. This definitely added an extra layer of exciting taboo to the wide variety of sex. Ultimately, this erotica did not disappoint. I very much got what I came here for.
This collection of erotic short stories is so delicious. There is definitely something for everyone. So much so that I'm ordering a physical copy for myself. Every story is its own little world and none of them skimp on the steam. Each story also has a little content warning, in case you have triggers. Off the top of my head, I had five stories that I loved above all the others. That's not to say that the rest aren't good, because they are. And I realize that this review is pretty vague but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.
My top five in no particular order. One Night With a Duke Bosom Chums Standing in for an Earl An Evening of Cards The Baker's Man
Thanks so much to the authors, Entangled and Netgalley for this ARC to review.
Well, this book is tantalising for certain, it's filled with short stories for every taste (I mean it, there's everything). It has been some time since I've read historical romance/erotica, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the setting of this stories. It's been a great entertainment for my nights the last few weeks. Totally recommend!
I love reading taboo romances, so I gave this a try. Now, I don't normally love novellas or historical but this anthology may have changed my mind about that. These stories were HOT and even though they are short, I felt like I got the complete reading experience. Where else can you get a whole collection of forbidden goodies! Highly recommend.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Auntie Blythe’s advice. “Take matters into your own hands. Understand the power of your own pleasure so no man can use it against you.”
What You’ll Find: ✔️Erotica Anthology ✔️Historical Romance ✔️Some Taboo Scenes ✔️Variety of Representation ✔️Variety of POV’s
Aphrodite In Bloom is filled with all the erotic historical romance stories and scenes you could think of. And many that I suspect you could not. There is truly something for everyone in this anthology. Each story brings it’s own flavour and level of taboo (in some cases).
While not every one was to my taste or liking, overall I enjoyed these short and steamy romance stories. I especially appreciated the theme introduction and trigger warnings prior to each short story, so if something isn’t your cup of tea- you could easily skip it. I did like the variety of representation in this anthology (although can not confirm it’s accuracy) which includes: f/f, m/m and polyamorous relationships as well as transgender and asexual characters.
I also enjoyed the feeling of female empowerment (especially when written in a historical time period) throughout many of these stories though. One of which you’ll find the above quote is from. I felt it spoke to learning your own body and taking charge of your own experiences- which you see in that story. Overall an enjoyable set of short erotic stories with something for everyone.
*Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the ARC via NetGalley for my honest review. This review is given freely and all opinions are my own.
4.5 stars. This is a wonderful selection of short historical erotic stories. There are stories for everyone’s desires. I read all the short stories but two (the stories that had girl on girl action is not my cup of tea). Every story had its theme and the author puts a brief warning at the beginning of each story. Overall a well written book and a good read. I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion. My opinion and review are my own.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The book is a collection of historical erotica short stories. They are well written and the plot though not deeply developed is provided with sufficient background information to enjoy without the book being pure smut. Additionally, each story offers something new so there’s something for everyone’s palate.
The trigger warnings preluding each story is a great addition for people who shy away from certain themes/topics.
I personally am a fan of historical romances so the genre of the stories were to my liking.
I recieved an eARC of this title from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Never read a book by an anonymous author before so I wasn't sure what I was getting into with this book. But honestly there were some decently done erotic stories. Some weren't my taste but writing wise these stories were not bad. Obviously a bit quick in plot considering they're short stories but if you go into the book just expecting erotic short stories I think you won't be disappointed. I don't know how I feel to be honest about erotica set in a time period where personal hygiene was different from our own in modern time. One thing I appreciated very much was that before each story was essentially a short description of the story with a trigger warning for certain acts that would take place.

Aphrodite in Bloom is an historical erotic short story collection. Each of the twelve stories follows new people exploring their sensuality. These include female/female, male/male, and polyamorous relationships. There is also transgender and asexual representation.
I have been reading a story from this collection every day before bed, and it has been such an enjoyable time. I picked it up on a whim, not expecting much, but it impressed me. I am usually not a fan of historical romance, but I did not mind it here. I think the main reason is that it was not traditional. It went where most historical romances don't. I was ecstatic to see the representation within the story (though I cannot speak on its accuracy). Another thing I really loved to see in a erotic anthology is brief descriptions and trigger warnings before each story. If a story isn't for you, the description makes you aware beforehand, and you can move along to the next one.
Though I did love so much of this, I can only rate it four stars. Anthologies in general almost never get five stars ratings from me, simply because not every story will be perfect. Some were definite five stars for me, while others did not work as well. I was sometimes disappointed by the length of the sections as well. Some that I found really interesting were shorter, while others that I found too similar to other sections went of for longer than I would have liked. There were also times where the intimate scenes felt repetitive. Almost like I was reading the same act but with different people.
Overall, I thought this was a great anthology. I recommend it to people looking for a little something spicy to add to their reading.
A huge thank to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
This collection of erotic stories was so deliciously written! I had the most amazing time reading each and every luscious story. I loved that they all had everything for everyone all set in the different varying scandalous situations which made it more exciting getting into each. This had everything from age gap, MLM, WLW, asexuality, reverse harem, se/x parties and more! I definitely enjoyed some more than the others but ultimately, my experience reading this collection was memorable!
I appreciated how each story had a summary and content warning to better the experience and make it more comfortable for the reader in diving into these stories. They all had that perfect balance of swoony, heartwarming, satisfying and steamy! The instalove trope present in the most of the stories was inevitable but it helped in kickstarting off each story with a bang. (pun is intended!)
I also liked how the stories highlighted women empowerment, se/x positivity, body positivity, normalization of se/x toys, lube, etc. and lastly, the importance of consent despite being set in a era where these are socially unacceptable.
If I had to choose favorites, my top 3 had to be One Night with a Duke, The Grand Ball and An Evening of Cards! These stories had characters and scenes that were the most unforgettable and were in line with my favorite tropes and kinks to read about.
I have mini reviews for each of the stories and some may have MINOR SPOILERS so please proceed with caution!
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗳𝘁 This anthology starts off so good! A virgin receives a special gift one night and meets the man of her dreams later on. The idea of using se/x toys during that time was so dirty and intriguing, it made the smut extra steamy! Their insta-love was cute!
𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗗𝘂𝗸𝗲 I loved this so much! The whole premise to being given one night with someone’s wife in exchange for money was just scandalous and everything they did that night was just delicious and consensual. I loved that they explored all throughout and that it ended on a happy note!
𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗺𝘀 This was so cute! I love how open and consensual Livinia and John were with each other and with how they’re both interested in Maude, I love that they helped her explore her sexuality in the most comforting way. Definitely would’ve love more smut but the overall plot was satisfying!
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗹 I LOVED THIS SO MUCH! Our main lead was very openly sexual and up for anything which I loved! The ball was the scene of my dreams! The weird and surprisingly fascinating turn it took was told in such a fun way and I enjoyed this til the end!
𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹 This was so fun! The idea of consensually instructing someone to do sexy things to your partner is so exhilarating! I loved the genuine friendship and love there was between the three of them and I was happy to see the HEA they ended up having!
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆 This was a good older woman/younger man romance! The smut was steamy! Their relationship was almost wholesome and supportive which I love and the ending was unexpected in the best way!
𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 This was such an eye opening read of how transwomen lived through this time. Leigh/Dawn was so interesting and fun! Ulysses was the perfect lover and I enjoyed their time together. Towards the end, I was happy with how things worked out!
𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 I really enjoyed the way this was told in letters between the couple as they reminisce on how they got together and fell in love! The smut was so deliciously scandalous and the first person POV added such a nice personal touch.
𝗔 𝗚𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 The main lead was so interesting! Not only did she venture into the business of sexual pleasure from the salves she had make but she also perfectly explained what it feels to be asexual. This was an interesting read!
𝗔 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗮𝗻 Ahhh a sapphic love story! This was so wholesome and steamy in the best way! Velvet and Annabelle’s explorations were exhilarating and the way it worked out in the end was satisfying
𝗔𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 I loved this!! I enjoyed the consensual reverse harem feel with the high stakes of a card game. This explored so many positions which I had the best time reading! The characters were all interesting and fun in their own way.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻 Ahhh this book ended with a bang! I loved that we had a MLM story to conclude this bc I really enjoyed it! The Baker really delivered with the amount of steaminess his scenes with his Man had! Such a nice ending as always that had me just as emotional as the main leads!
Overall, this book was surprisingly amazing! I usually give short story collections around 4 stars but I had to bump it up to a 5 because of how some of the scenes from this book are ingrained in my memory that I’ll definitely be going back to this when I crave for historical erotica.
To the author of this book, I just wanna say that I’m completely and utterly in love with your stories and I would gladly read more of it! Thank you for sharing these stories!
I HIGHLY recommend this if you’re looking for a really good historical romance and erotic read!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Full disclosure, I can be quite picky when it comes to erotica. This anthology did not disappoint! The representation was well done in my opinion, the characters were intriguing and very three dimensional which can be hard to pull off for erotica, and the sex scenes were so well written and creative.
The icing on the cake for me was the amount of respect given to the reader. Every story is preceded by a content warning which I had never seen before, and hope is embraced by the romance and erotica genre. Honestly, bravo for that.
There was only one story I wasn't a huge fan of, and was so out of place among the rest of the anthology that I'm surprised it made it into the collection. This was also the only story for me that felt like it had any toxicity in it. Hints of stalking that was framed as being romantic, echoes of gaslighting, and a stereotypical portrayal of an LGBTQIAP+ character, made the whole section unpleasant to read despite the well done prose.
While it didn't ruin the collection for me as a whole, it is what leaves this as a 4 out of 5. Otherwise this set is perfection.
As said, the representation in this was outstanding, there is even an aromantic asexual protaginist in one of the stories which I don't recall ever seeing in erotica. Really, just great representation all around, and nothing ever felt exploitative.
There was so much female empowerment in this book that it was refreshing. Nothing ever came off as pandering or tropey or for the male gaze. This is what I expect from erotica and now the bar is so high!
The only thing I wish there was more of, is men with men couples. There is one story that features two men in a relationship as the full protagonists, and it was probably the sweetest story in the anthology and definitely my favorite.
No scene in this book felt out of place or without purpose, and nothing felt like it was trying to meet a quota or shoehorn in an experience.
Be sure to check this out for a genuine and diverse experience! It was fun to read, I hope there's more from this creator soon!
I was really weary of this book when I first picked it up, not really knowing what I got myself into. Man, was I proved wrong! It was brilliant. I don’t know if a anonymous is one person or many but each story was blowing my mind, from the content to the time period, to the 🔥🔥🔥 it was all very good! Below are my reviews for each individual stories I have read this far:
Stepping out with the stable boy- 4 stars I was beyond intrigued with this one! The verbiage cracked me up but man was the sex hot!
Standing in for earl- 4 stars I wish this one was a full length novel, I wanted the story to slow down, and drag out its details.
The gift- 3 stars- well, I appreciated this story for what it was. While I prefer reading in the current time period, I wasn’t completely bothered by this one
A night with the duke- 4 stars A phallus?! Haha oh man. This was great. I really enjoyed how naive the main character was!
Bosum chums. - 5 stars This was a brilliant story! I wish there was more to this one
The grand ball- 5 stars another brilliant story! I love the ending! I didn’t see that comes AT ALL!
An evening of cards!- 5 stars This one gets all my stars for creativity! Man I wish I knew who the author is....
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This erotic anthology has something for everyone and caters to many different tastes and proclivities. Discover what interest or excites you. Explore which is your perfect story. Return to it again and again. We dare you. A virgin receives an especially satisfying gift at a masked ball. A duke offers to settle a man's debt for one night with his wife. As an introduction to a secret club, a viscount's heir is made over into a woman - and discovers her true self. Plus nine more sensual stories of libidinous lust, catering to the tastes of varying sexual appetites. Whatever your fancy. Aphrodite in Bloom is ready and willing to serve.
I went into this anthology by the title alone. I am usually not the biggest fans of anthologies because they usually leave you hanging on for more until the next book comes. But this one is pretty much complete stories that will appeal to about every reader. But my biggest question was who are these authors or author of this book. I so want to know. I know there is something that will be amazing to read in here for everyone. I wasn't a fan of all the stories but over all it was a great little anthology.
This was a fun read! As far as erotica goes it had the basics I was looking for: hot sex, romance, and great rep. There were lesbian characters, gay characters, trans characters. Polyamory, age-gap relationships, sex work positivity. Even if your preference isn’t included, I feel like the book is encouraging in a way that accepts all kinks.
The characters did get a little monotonous, the women often reacted the same and the men were almost always traditionally masculine, but that didn’t feel like a statement on what society “should be” so much as writers can fall into the trap of writing the same character. I also didn’t always want everyone to fall into real love (sometimes sex is sex), so more variety in that area as well would have been good. I read most of the book in a few weeks and then took like a 2 month break because I just ran out of steam for the last 15%.
I don’t tend to drift toward period piece romances but it was sort of fun to be in olden times and work under those constraints. Consent was represented pretty well and I liked that each story came with a content warning.
Some stand out stories were: The Gift, Stepping Out with a Stable Boy, and my favorite was An Evening of Cards.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
I don't usually pick up anthologies, but something about this one drew me in, and I'm so happy I gave it a try! I have never read a historical erotic book, but I absolutely LOVE historical romance so this was FANTASTIC for me. It was so cool to see such steamy stories set in a time when talking to a man alone might ruin you lol!
I found the writing style to be flawless, props to this anonymous author for that. There really was something for everyone here, every taste, every inclination, every fantasy. And none of the stories felt unfinished - they all wrapped up nicely which is not always the case with short stories so I was pleasantly surprised by that.
All in all, I recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a HOT, sexy read filled with great representation and set in a historical time period! I don't think anyone will be disappointed as there is literally something that floats everyone's boat lol.
***I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own***
I found this book to be a pleasant surprise in that it was a little different from what I was expecting. I was anticipating high-heat erotica that revolved purely around sex, and while I do read and appreciate those stories this collection was a bit more than that. Yes, there was a strong focus on sexual exploration which made for some pretty hot scenes (I was fanning myself during the second one). But the variations also affected the heat levels of each story since that's all subjective to one's personal tastes. However, each story was told in such a lovely way that I was able to enjoy even if it wasn't quite my jam. I did appreciate the clear content warnings at the start of each story, and I would definitely recommend this to someone who was looking for a more varied collection of erotica that focuses on agency, exploration, and pleasure.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The stories are not for the faint hearted these are full on Erotica and fully enjoyable.
I didn’t care for the “Letters of a Governess” but the rest were smoking hot.
I think “Stepping out with a Stable Boy” may have been my favourite, I hope to find a Benjamin of my own 😜
All stories appear to be based around the same time period, that of the Napoleonic war.
The varying stories and sexual proclivities of the characters is wonderful and opens up (pun intended) a whole host of exciting fantasies for the reader.
I liked the fact that a trigger warning preceded each new story so that the reader could choose whether or not each story was for them.
Very hot and flustering read - heartily recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an E-ARC of this book.
This was a collection of erotic short stories and it was definitely a lot of fun. I feel like I liked the beginning half of stories more than the second half. I liked that all the stories seemed to be set in Duke and Duchess type times, but I would have also enjoyed a few with a modern take. These stories were raunchy, steamy and generally happily ever after. I've never read a collection of stories like this, but I would definitely do it again. I love a good historical type romance with lots of steam and these all delivered. I also liked the variety of characters and love interests. This book included a lot of heterosexual relationships, but also a nice inclusion of gay, lesbian and transgender stories and relationships. Definitely NSFW and each story included content warnings as well which I thought was nice.
WOW!!! I was expecting steamy and sexy... but holy hell, this collection went way beyond and above my expectations!! I LOVED IT!
It has been a LONG time since I last picked up a novel with a regency/historical setting and holy hell, I now remember why I love these settings so freaking much!! But let it be a warning, If you don't care for the erotic factor and prefer clean and fade to black in romances... THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU! Aphrodite In Bloom is a collection of deliciously scandalous short and highly erotic stories. If you are a lover of erotica, like myself, you should definitely be adding this one to your collection!!
Aphrodite in Bloom is an erotica anthology. Each story is an erotic novella filled with steamy sex scenes and dashing dukes. There is definitely something for everyone in here. One of the tag lines for this anthology is "find the story you'll return to again and again". For me, it would have to be the first story. I liked the set up and it's one I would have loved to have been a longer story. The second story was enjoyable as well. As for the rest, I will admit that they weren't my cup of tea. One thing I appreciated about this book was the disclaimer at the beginning of each story. It allowed me to decide if I wanted to read the content of each story. Some I did and some were a hard no for me. But that is OK. That is what is great about books like this. Something for everyone and every taste. Maybe you'll find a favorite among the pages. Make sure to check it out.
Truthfully, I wasn’t expecting much from this collection of erotic stories because I’ve found that collections usually leave much to be desired, which this one did – but in a very positive way. If you’re a new reader of erotic romance, this is a great book to start with. Although some of the subjects of each story may not be to everyone’s liking, I am certain readers will find more than one story to love because I thought they were well written. Each story has a pre-warning of the subject matter in case of triggers, so you can easily move past a particular one if necessary. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be story two – One Night With A Duke. I encourage you to indulge in your erotic fantasies by spending time reading everything in Aphrodite In Bloom. I received an ARC of this book and am very happy to leave my honest review.
